While charging your ID.4 at a public charging station, the charging port started smoking. When you removed the charger, you noticed a loose pin inside the port and melted plastic. Your dealer refused to service the vehicle without explaining why. The repair will likely involve replacing the charging port and inspecting the charging system for electrical damage.

The vehicle lurched forward as I was parking and hit a parked vehicle in front of me; it accelerated forward even though my foot wasn't on the accelerator. I have contacted VW and was told to take the vehicle to a VW dealer to be inspected; that is happening next week. I did not notice any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the accident.

Your car's battery is part of a recall, which prevents you from using DC fast charging and limits you to charging only to 80% capacity. This significantly reduces your vehicle's range and charging speed, making long-distance travel much less practical than when you purchased it.

I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow, but there are no issues that came up when this failed, it just failed to boot correctly, and nothing I could do would bring it back.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your car failed to connect to or stay connected to a charging station. When charging did start, warning messages appeared on your dashboard within 5 minutes telling you to stop moving and park the car, saying the battery needed replacement—even though the car was already parked. The charging session then stopped and wouldn't reconnect, and your car wouldn't start, leaving you stranded. A new 12-volt battery was installed for $479, but this didn't resolve the issue; your car is now waiting for a main battery replacement at the dealership.

Your 2023 ID.4 accelerates unpredictably when the battery is charged to 90-100%, which you find unsafe to drive. Additionally, the battery charges to 100% even when you've set it to stop at 80%. You're aware of a recall for potential battery overheating and fire risk, but no diagnostic test or repair is currently available to determine if your car is affected, leaving you uncertain about the battery's safety. The dealership's brief test drive didn't reproduce the acceleration issue, so they couldn't diagnose the problem.

Your 2023 ID.4 is experiencing multiple serious electrical and mechanical failures including complete loss of power steering, difficulty starting and shutting off, significant engine lag when accelerating, and 17 different electrical warning alerts on the dashboard. You've also reported malfunctioning door locks, brake warning lights, reduced driving range, and a persistent whining noise. The vehicle has been in and out of service since April 2025 with unresolved issues, and you believe it's unsafe to drive, especially with children in the car. A complete electrical system diagnosis and power steering system replacement will likely be required, along with addressing the underlying electrical faults causing the multiple warning codes.

I am advised by VW to not charge this vehicle using the L3 super chargers along with not to charge it "inside" a garage. However, there is no way to charge the vehicle then without spending thousands to have an electrician move the plug outside. So I am forced to have this vehicle not usable and VW offers zero fix.
