FireFiled: Feb 2026

Your vehicle caught fire while charging at a public EVgo charging station. The charging session appeared normal initially with no warning lights or error messages, but the fire started suddenly after the battery had charged to approximately 23%. The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames with fire shooting into the air, requiring firefighters to extinguish it and causing severe damage beyond the fire damage itself. The cause may involve the vehicle's battery system, charging port, or electrical components that failed during the charging process.

Your ID.4 is displaying a child lock error that's disabling all window and lock functions. This means you can't lock your car, roll down the windows, or engage the child lock feature. In an emergency situation like an accident, you wouldn't be able to exit the vehicle by rolling down the windows, creating a safety concern. The issue may be caused by a failed control module or software update that will need to be diagnosed and repaired by a technician.

Your 2025 ID.4's central touchscreen display has failed at least eight times in three months, freezing, becoming unresponsive, shutting down completely, or failing to start up properly. When this happens, you lose access to climate control, audio, vehicle settings, and camera systems—features you rely on for comfort and safety. The dealer will need to diagnose the root cause and replace or repair the display system and its underlying software or hardware components.

Filed: Aug 2025

Your vehicle has experienced multiple electrical system failures since purchase in May 2025, leaving you stranded on at least four separate occasions (in June, July, and twice in August). These failures have prevented the car from operating, though no crashes or fires occurred.

CrashFiled: Feb 2026

While slowly pulling into a parking space on 6/20/25, your car suddenly accelerated on its own without any input from you, causing it to crash into two parked cars. The collision was serious enough to require $17,000 in repairs, and the dealer could not identify what caused the sudden acceleration. This involved the vehicle's speed control and collision avoidance systems, which may need diagnostic testing to prevent it from happening again.

FireFiled: Jan 2026

When you turned on the front windshield defroster for the first time, you heard a loud cracking noise and the windshield cracked near the heating element. The glass became so hot that it melted some nearby car components, and you're concerned about fire risk. The cracks are spreading and blocking your vision, and you're afraid to use the defroster again despite needing it for winter driving. The repair will likely require a complete windshield replacement and inspection of any heat-damaged components near the heating element.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your ID.4's infotainment and control display repeatedly crash while driving, making navigation, climate control, audio, CarPlay, vehicle warnings, and backup camera unavailable—sometimes at highway speeds. Volkswagen has confirmed this is a known software defect affecting multiple ID.4s with no fix or update currently available. This eliminates access to critical controls and safety information while the vehicle is in motion. Resolving this will require Volkswagen to develop and release a software update to stabilize the display system.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your car is unlocking itself without you using the key fob or mobile app, which creates a security risk for theft or carjacking. Additionally, your infotainment system is restarting on its own while you're driving (3 times in one week), causing you to lose access to navigation, climate control, and your speedometer display. The fix will likely involve a software update to the vehicle's locking system and infotainment software, and possibly a diagnostic check of the electrical connections.

criticalBACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
CrashFiled: Oct 2025

While stopped in regenerative braking mode near a school, your ID.4 suddenly accelerated forward at high speed even though your foot remained on the brake, causing you to hit a parked service van. The airbags did not deploy on impact, and skid marks confirmed the brakes were engaged while the car moved on its own. This unintended acceleration incident occurred without any prior warning signs and resulted in a collision.

Forward Collision Avoidance, back Over Prevention1 issue
criticalFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION
CrashFiled: Oct 2025

Your vehicle unexpectedly accelerated forward while you were parking, crashing through a wall despite you pressing the brake pedal. The airbag deployed, injuring you with burns and a cut, and you experienced neck pain and numbness afterward. It appears the capacitive touch controls on the steering wheel may have been accidentally activated during parking, causing the forward collision avoidance system to fail. A dealer inspection is needed to determine why the braking system didn't prevent the acceleration and why safety systems didn't activate.

Filed: Sep 2025

While slowly pulling into a parking space with your foot on the brake, your ID.4 suddenly accelerated on its own and traveled about 50 feet, crashing over a tire stop, concrete walkway, and planter despite you keeping steady pressure on the brake pedal. The vehicle sustained damage including a flat tire, damaged wheel, and scrap marks on other tires. This unintended acceleration while braking is a serious safety concern that requires immediate electrical and brake system diagnostics to identify whether the issue stems from the vehicle's speed control system or brake electronics.

Service Brakes,lane Departure1 issue
criticalSERVICE BRAKES,LANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Sep 2025

Your brakes aren't working reliably — sometimes they respond normally, but other times you need to slam them hard to stop the vehicle, which produces a loud churning noise. This inconsistent braking is a serious safety concern. Additionally, your lane-keep assist isn't functioning properly and allows the car to drift out of its lane even when the system is turned on. You'll need to have the brake system inspected for hydraulic or electronic issues, and the lane-keep assist camera and sensors checked for misalignment or malfunction.

CrashFiled: Sep 2025

While parking at low speed (5-10 MPH), your ID.4 suddenly accelerated on its own without your input. When you pressed the brake pedal, the brakes did not stop the vehicle, and it crashed into a parked car. No warning lights appeared before this happened. The issue may involve the acceleration control system and brake system not responding properly during low-speed parking.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your car's center infotainment screen repeatedly goes black and restarts on its own while you're driving, leaving you unable to control climate settings or access camera functions until it reboots. Your speedometer continues working, but the touchscreen becomes unavailable during these crashes. Volkswagen suggested switching from wireless Apple CarPlay to a wired USB connection, but the problem persists even after making this change. This creates a distraction and safety concern since you depend on the center screen for essential vehicle controls while driving. The issue likely requires a software update or replacement of the infotainment system's main module.

Filed: Aug 2025

Your 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 is missing the backup alert system that should warn pedestrians when you're reversing. The dealer confirmed your vehicle wasn't equipped with this audible warning feature, which may violate federal pedestrian safety requirements. Volkswagen has been notified and is investigating the issue. You may want to contact NHTSA directly if you have concerns about your vehicle's compliance with safety standards.

Your infotainment screen goes completely black and stops working several times a month, with the only fix being to lock the car and wait 15 minutes. When this happens, your backup camera won't display on the screen, and other safety features for parking and backing up stop working — though the car remains drivable otherwise. This creates a safety risk because drivers may continue using the vehicle without realizing the required backup camera and parking assistance features are offline. The issue may require infotainment system software updates or hardware repairs to restore consistent functionality.
