VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured January 16, 2014 to April 8, 2014, Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 16, 2014 to April 8, 2014, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT vehicles manufactured February 3, 2014 to April 8, 2014, and Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured March 6, 2014 to April 17, 2014. When the adaptive cruise control is engaged and the driver presses the accelerator pedal to increase the vehicle's speed more than the cruise control system would on its own, the vehicle may continue to accelerate briefly after the accelerator pedal is released.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will re-flash the Driver Assistance System Module (DASM), free of charge. The recall began in June 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P31.

When accelerating on to the highway the vehicle will not go above the speed you were entering the highway on. For example entering the highway at 40mph and trying to get to 65mph and it will not go. Have to release the foot from the gas and then reapply foot to gas pedal. Most recent occurrence the vehicle hesitated much long resulting in oncoming cars almost rear ending me and having to drive in the breakdown lane until it picked up speed.

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. Car is not reporting accurate speed, 20mph or more on display and shifting my be affected
Cruise control Didn’t disengage and continue to accelerate. Tried to apply brakes but they went straight to the floor and didn’t work. Placed the car into neutral and kept trying brakes until they started to come back. With the car continuing to accelerate went into breakdown lane and rubbed up against guardrail to avoid car in front.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was operated by diesel fuel. The contact stated while merging onto the highway the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to increase to 75 MPH. The contact stated that the ECS warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he was able to continue to drive to the residence. The contact reviewed his service record and found out that his spouse had taken the vehicle to the dealer prior for the same failure. The paperwork stated they were unable to duplicate the failure. No repairs were completed. The contact stated that he was awaiting an appointment with the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
The headrest deployed for absolutely no reason. The car was parked and unoccupied. Upon entering the vehicle we immediately noticed the headrest was popped out. I'm thankful I wasn't driving at the time!
THE FORWARD COLLISIN CONTROL WAS TURNED ON. IT STARTED BEEPING WHEN NO ONE WAS NEAR ME AT ALL FROM ANY SIDE OF VEHICLE. THEN THE BRAKES SLAMMED LIKE IT WAS PREVENTING A REAR END COLLISIN BY MY VEHICLE. MY CAR SLID TO A STOP AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES AN HOUR. IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME AND I HAVE HAD THAT SAFETY SENSOR OPTION TURNED TO OFF EVER SINCE THIS INCIDENT.
I HAVE BEEN GETTING AN ERROR ON MY VEHICLE THAT SAYS "SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM" AND AN ERROR THAT SAYS " SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM". I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND SEE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH A DRAGGING OF THE MOTOR INTO THE NEXT GEAR AND A HESITANT JERK SOMETIMES. I FOUND OUT THAT THE RIGHT SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IS JEEP DOING ANYTHING TO REIMBURSE CUSTOMERS THAT HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND COMING TO A STOP NO PROBLEM UNTIL IT'S NEEDED TO ACCELERATE THEN THE TRUCK WILL HESITATE. WHEN GOING FROM A STOP SIGN AND MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT THEN JEEP WILL HESITATE REAL BAD AND THE VEHICLE WILL TAKE AWHILE TO GET UP TOO SPEED
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GEARS IRRATICALLY BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. IT CAN BE A DELAYED SHIFT AS I'M ACCELERATING OR ROUGH FEELING SHIFT AS THE TRANSMISSION AUTOMATICALLY MOVES THROUGH THE GEARS. OCCURS AT VARIOUS LOW END SPEEDS (E.G. 0 - 40 / 50 MPH)

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS UPDATED FOUR TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TWO MONTHS AGO, OUR JEEP DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE V08 RECALL AS PER THE EPA/DOJ FCA ECODIESEL SETTLEMENT. SINCE THEN, I'VE EXPERIENCED LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE (LAG), CAUSING UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE CONDITIONS WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER REPLACED SEVERAL OF THE COMPUTERS IN THE VEHICLE, WHICH POSSIBLY INCLUDED THE ECM, PCM, AND TCM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,999.
AS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I BEGAN TO COAST AND PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AT THE TIME I STARTED TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD FOR 1 SECOND. AS I CAME CLOSER TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE SURGED AGAIN AT WHICH POINT I HAD TO "STAND" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT ME AND MY FAMILY FROM REAR-ENDING A VEHICLE AND GOING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION.
WHILE GOING THROUGH A CARWASH THIS WEEKEND, MY CAR ACCELERATED AT SOME POINT AFTER THE GEAR WAS PUT INTO NEUTRAL, AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE BRUSHES IN FRONT OF ME PARTED I COULD SEE I WAS GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND TRIED TO STOP WITH THE BRAKES BUT DID NOT STOP IN TIME. A COUPLE YEARS AGO WHILE SLOWING TOWARDS THE END OF A LANE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IT HAD ALSO ACCELERATED, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. PERIODICALLY, BUT NOT OFTEN, WHEN I AM AT A STOP AND THEN PROCEED MY CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD AS IF I HAD FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL, BUT I HAVEN'T. MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN WITH ME AND SAID NOT TO FLOOR IT. I JUST GIVE HIM THE LOOK AND SAY I DIDN'T. YESTERDAY, HOWEVER, JUST HOURS AFTER THE CAR WASH INCIDENT, HE WAS DRIVING THE JEEP WHEN HE THOUGHT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME "OVER-ACCELERATION" AFTER PROCEEDING FROM A STOP. THE CAR-WASH ATTENDANT YESTERDAY HAD ACCUSED ME OF NOT PUTTING MY CAR IN NEUTRAL BUT I HAD POINTED TO MY DASH TO SHOW HIM IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME BUT THEN LOOKED AT THEIR VIDEO WHICH WAS INCONCLUSIVE. BUT SOMETHING MADE HIM DO A GOOGLE SEARCH WHERE HE CAME ACROSS SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION IN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, AT WHICH POINT HE APOLOGIZED FOR BASICALLY ACCUSING ME OF LYING.
THE DEFROST AND TEMPERATURE WILL IT STAY CONSTANT. I CAN SET THE TEMP TO 70. IT WILL GET SUPER HOT AND MINUTES LATER IT FEELS LIKE THE AC IS ON. THE DEFROST DOESN'T WORK MOST OF THE TIME AND WILL NOT DEFROST THE MIRRORS
TAKATA RECALL I WAS DRIVING A 40MPH STREET WHEN I WAS GOING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. I WAS WAITING FOR CARS TO PASS TO MAKE THE TURN WHEN THE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS TRYING TO TURN BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T LET ME ACCELERATE. I AM THANKFUL THAT THERE WASN'T ANY CARS COMING TOWARDS ME. I PULLED OVER TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON IT WENT AWAY. THE CAR HAD A RECALL IN 2017 FOR THE ALTERNATOR. I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT WHERE I WAS DRIVING AND THE JEEP HAD SLOWED DOWN IT COMPLETELY TURNED OFF BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AT A APARTMENT COMPLEX. THE JEEPS DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE FLASHING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ON REALLY FAST, EVERYTHING WAS FLASHING. I COULDN'T PUT THE CAR IN PARKING, IT WAS SMOKING. I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT, I HAD MANAGED TO TURN AROUND GET HER OUT WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE PEDAL JUMP OUT OF THE CAR WITH HER IN MY ARMS. THE CAR KEPT MOVING UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A CAR INFRONT OF IT. I FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO DIE WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. I FEEL LIKE THE THROTTLE COULD BE RELATED TO THE ALTERNATOR. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR.
IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING AT MY SISTER'S HOME, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND STARTED TO BRAKE. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I CONTINUED TO BRAKE, BUT THE CAR KEPT GOING FORWARD WITH INCREASING SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO STEER AND NOT HIT PARKED CARS, BUT WENT INTO THE LAWN HITTING A SET OF CONTRACTOR'S SCAFFOLDING SENDING THEM FLYING INTO THEIR HOUSE AND PATIO. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED ON TOP OF THEIR WELL HEAD, DESTROYING THE WELL COVER AS WELL AS THE PROTECTIVE PIPE FOR THE WELL HEAD. FURTHER INTERNAL DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THEIR WELL, AS THERE WAS NO RUNNING WATER IN THE HOUSE. A TOW TRUCK HAD TO COME TO LIFT THE CAR OFF THE WELL HEAD TO AVOID ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. I HAD BEEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL EARLIER IN OUR TRIP, BUT IT WAS NOT ACTIVE AT THE TIME.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO VEHICLES OR OBSTACLES IN FRONT OF ME, THE BREAK ASSIST COLLISION AVOIDANCE WENT OFF INDICATING AN IMMINENT COLLISION AND STOPPING THE CAR. PERHAPS RELATED TO THE SAME ISSUE, A FEW MINUTES AFTER THIS INCIDENT THE COMPUTER ALSO DISPLAYED AN ERROR MESSAGE STATING THAT THE AUTOMATIC WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY
WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND WHEN TRAFFIC IS CLEAR RELEASE THE BRAKE AND DEPRESS ACCELERATOR PEDAL INTERMITTENTLY I GET THE MESSAGE " SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" AT THAT PRECISE MOMENT, THERE IS NO ACCELERATOR, VEHICLE MAY MOVE AHEAD SLOWLY FROM AN IDLE BUT THAT IS IT. WHEN THE MESSAGE GOES AWAY THE THROTTLE RESPONDS NORMAL. THE LAST 3 TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED I WAS COASTING DOWN HILL WITH MY FOOT OFF BOTH PEDALS.I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALER SHIP SEVERAL TIMES. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW. BECAUSE I CAN NOT SHOW THEM THE ISSUE, WHEN I TAKE IT IN, THEY DO NOTHING.
SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION "SUA" OCCURS AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH BRAKE APPLIED. FIRST TIME 08/14 AS I PULLED INTO A FORWARD FACING CURB-I HAD JUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS ABOUT TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK WHEN THE ENGINE LOUDLY SURGED. I WAS ASTONISHED AND GOT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL;THE SURGING STOPPED. THE CAR WAS NEW AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED-I WAS DUMBFOUNDED. THE SECOND TIME THE "SUA" HAPPENED WAS 01/26/15 -I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT BEHIND SEVERAL CARS. AS I CAME TO A STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR'S ENGINE SURGED VIOLENTLY AND THE CAR TRIED TO MOVE FORWARD. MY HUSBAND WAS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR AND WITNESSED MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. I IMMEDIATELY MOVED THE GEAR SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND SURGING STOPPED. I RELAYED THIS INCIDENT TO JEEP SERVICE REP BY EMAIL WHO SAID HE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. THE THIRD TIME OF "SUA" WAS 6/25/15; I WAS FIRST CAR AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. I CAME TO COMPLETE STOP WITH FOOT APPLIED TO BRAKE WHEN THE ENGINE SURGED, THE CAR SQUEALED AND JUMPED ABOUT 3-4 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION; I GOT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE SURGING SUBSIDED. TOOK THE CAR TO JEEP DEALER WHO TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION OVER A PERIOD OF 14 DAYS WITHOUT SUCCESS. I ALSO CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORP. WHO OPENED AND THEN DROPPED A CASE. FOURTH TIME ON 12/03/16-I WAS 3RD CAR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND, AGAIN, CAME TO COMPLETE STOP WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE ENGINE SURGED VIOLENTLY AND RAMMED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DAMAGING MY CAR AND HIS. IN THIS INSTANCE I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR TO NEUTRAL IN TIME. CHRYSLER CORP WAS CONTACTED, THEY INVESTIGATED BY RETRIEVING INFO FROM EDR AND CONCLUDED "WE ARE NOT LED TO BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITY AND ...DECLINE ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THIS INCIDENT." OUR WRITTEN REQUESTS FOR THE DATA RESULTS HAVE BEEN IGNORED. JEEP SERVICE WILL NOT ISSUE US A REPAIR ORDER-THE CAR IS UNSAFE!
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND COLLISION AVOIDANCE DID NOT WORK PROPERLY, AND RESULTED IN A COLLISION. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, RELYING ON THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING, A FEATURE OF COLLISION AVOIDANCE. THERE WAS A SLOW DOWN IN TRAFFIC, AND ALTHOUGH THE SYSTEM SLOWED DOWN AND APPLIED BRAKE, IT DID SO TOO LATE TO STOP CAR. AS I GOT TOO CLOSE, I APPLIED STEADY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE, BUT I STILL HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, WHO THEN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM. NO SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO EITHER OF THE OTHER CARS, AND MINE HAS MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE, AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOW NOT WORKING PROPERLY. COULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. MAKES ME REALLY QUESTION THE POTENTIAL FOR SELF-DRIVING CARS. *TR
JEEP ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN FROM 40-67MPH I TRIED TO PRESS BRAKE TO STOP CAR BUT IT DIDN'T WORK SINCE THE JEEP KEPT ON ACCELERAITING. TRIED TO SHIFT TO NATURAL AND RIDE IT OUT BUT IT WOULDN'T SHIFT IT WAS STUCK ON ACCELERATING. KILLED THE ENGINE SINCE THE BRAKE WASN'T STOPPING THE CAR SINCE IT KEPT ON TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND SINCE I COULDN'T SHIFT TO NATURAL. JEEP HAS HAD MY CAR FOR 2 DAYS AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT ISSUE WHICH IS THE REASON I'M REACHING OUT HERE.

SHE NOTICED THE COLUMN SAID NEUTRAL, AND THE NEXT INSTANT THE VEHICLE WENT FORWARD AND CRASHED THROUGH A CEMENT BLOCK WALL AND GLASS WINDOW OF A STORE AND BENT THE SUPPORT POLE. *JB

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,500.
FORWARD COLLISION WARNING (FCW) OCCASIONALLY COMES ON WITHOUT REASON IN CITY TRAFFIC,INTERSTATES, AND COUNTRY ROADS (NO TRAFFIC OR OBSTRUCTIONS NEARBY) AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS CAUSING A "BRAKE" WARNING SIGNAL AND SOMETIMES, NOT ALWAYS, ACTUALLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BRAKE. RELATED TO THE FCW PROBLEM IS A WARNING SIGNAL THAT FREQUENTLY APPEARS THAT INDICATES THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL/FCW ARE UNAVAILABLE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES AND EXCEPT FOR ONE TIME THAT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND A PART MISSING, THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO INDICATE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM REMAINS ON-GOING AND HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE DATE OF OCCURANCE BELOW IS THE MOST RECENT EVENT WITH THE "BRAKE" WARNING.

IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CALIBRATION WARNING MESSAGE WOULD DISPLAY DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SENSOR BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,500.
OUR SUV IS EQUIPPED WITH COLLISION AVOIDANCE AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE HAS REPEATEDLY AND WITHOUT CAUSE EITHER ALARMED OR IN SOME CASES SLOWED TO AVOID A COLLISION THAT IS NOT EMINENT (I.E. ALONG A STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY WITH NO VEHICLE OR OBJECT WITHIN SIGHT OF THE CAR). THE SYSTEM HAS PROVIDED MULTIPLE FALSE ALARMS AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE A PATTERN OR TRIGGER. ADDITIONALLY THE CAR REPORTS AT TIMES THAT THE ACC IS INOPERABLE AND THEN MOMENTS LATER THE FAULT MESSAGE DISAPPEARS. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE TO ADDRESS. VEHICLE IS AN ECO-DIESEL MODEL. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST POWER AS WE ACCELERATED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT. INITIALLY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. IT GRADUALLY ALLOWED US TO GET UP TO ABOUT 50 MPH, BUT WITH NOTICEABLE VIBRATION. THEN A NOTICE DISPLAYED ON THE INFORMATION CENTER TELLING US TO SERVICE THE ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL. TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THE DEALER SAID WE WERE DRIVING WITH LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND RIGHT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO BE CONFUSED. SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A SECOND TIME A WEEK LATER. THIS TIME IT GAINED ENOUGH POWER TO GET US UP TO 40 MPH AND HOME. WE THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. NOT SURE WHAT THEY DID TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT HAS COME ON AGAIN 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. EACH TIME THE DEALER SAYS THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON THE DEALER SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY COULD SCHEDULE SERVICE. THE THIRD TIME WE ASKED THE DEALER TO CONTACT JEEP HEADQUARTERS FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT. CORPORATE JEEP SAID NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHCILE WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON, THAT IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. ON-LINE RESEARCH AND DISCUSSION WITH OTHER LOCAL OWNERS OF THE SAME ECO-DIESEL MODEL SUGGEST THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES.
WHILE TRAVELLING ON OPEN HIGHWAY WITH NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WILL DRAMATICALLY SLOW DOWN AS IF IT'S DETECTING A VEHICLE IN FRONT. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER WHO RESPONDED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE HOME ON A 20 MILE TRIP, IN RUSH HOUR, WITH CARS AROUND THEM. UNLESS I LET THEM TAKE MY VEHICLE ON A LONG HIGHWAY TRIP, IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS, THIS WILL NOT BE RE-PRODUCED. I SAID NO FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. CRUISE CONTROL PLACED AT 55 CONTINUALLY ACCELERATES & SPEEDS UP TO 80 PLUS ONCE IT CRESTS A HILL BEFORE DOWN SHIFTING OR I HAVE TO BREAK HARD TO SLOW DOWN AND SHUT CRUISE OFF.
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED THE VEHICLE BRAKED ITSELF HARD EXTREMELY SLOWING THE CAR DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OR IN OTHER LANES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HAD A CAR BEEN FOLLOWING ME I WOULD MOST LIKELY BEEN REAR ENDED.TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND, AFTER CHECKING OUT THE VEHICLE, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THAT THE SOFTWARE WAS UP TO DATE, AND THAT THE ACC SYSTEM IS "WORKING AS DESIGNED." THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES OR WORSE.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON W. MAPLE RD IN TROY, MI IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON ON FEBRUARY 18, 2015. THERE WAS MINIMAL TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD AND NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME IN MY LANE OR THE LANE NEXT TO ME. SUDDENLY, MY DASH LIT UP TO BRAKE AND THE CAR STARTED BRAKING ON IT'S OWN. IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY THAT I WASN'T EVEN SURE WHAT IT WAS. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN THE SYSTEM APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE WARNING WORD BRAKE FLASHED ON MY DASHBOARD WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING NEAR ME. IT HAPPENED QUICKLY AND THEN THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL WITHOUT ME DOING OR CHANGING ANYTHING IN THE CAR. I BROUGHT IT TO THE SUBURBAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALERSHIP IN TROY AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE. NO CODES WERE ACTIVATED IN THE COMPUTER AND THERE WERE NO SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT IT SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.. . I TOOK THE CAR HOME AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN TO ME FIVE DAYS LATER DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME SPEED. THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR LONGER, DROVE IT 119 MILES, USED THE MILLER TOOL KIT TO ALIGN THE CAMERA AND STILL FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE FRONT SENSOR AND BUBBLE ALIGNED. THE ONLY THING THAT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND WAS THAT ON ONE OF THE TEST DRIVES THEY COULDN'T GET THE ACC SYSTEM TO WORK AT ALL AND STILL NO REPORTS SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER. THE NEXT TEST DRIVE ALL SYSTEMS WERE WORKING, AGAIN NO REPORT ON THE COMPUTER OF THE CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY THOUGHT THAT THEY FIXED IT.. THE POLICE REPORT, OKLAHOMA CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT, CASE NUMBER 15-REDACTED, ACCURATELY RECORDS THE SURGE. THE OFFICERS CONCLUSION WAS DRIVER ERROR. WHEN ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IS SET, VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE WHEN APPROACHING VEHICLES INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. 3. VEHICLE BRAKES ON IT'S OWN AND DISPLAYS "BRAKE" IN DISPLAY WHEN MORE THAN 3 CAR LENGTHS AWAY. THIS HAPPENED WITH AND WITHOUT VEHICLE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SET. AS A SIDE NOTE, CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS NOT BEEN RESPONDING TO OUR DEALER TO RECTIFY THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 12:50PM, WHILE DRIVING IN SPORT MODE, GOING UP A HILL, I WAS ACCELERATING NORMALLY AT A REASONABLE PACE AFTER MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN. THE ACCELERATION PEDAL AROUND 30 MPH DISENGAGED FROM MY FOOT AND FLOORED ITSELF, AND CONTINUED ACCELERATING. DESPITE PUSHING ON THE BREAK PEDAL REPEATEDLY. I COULD NOT INITIALLY UN-STICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL USING MY FOOT. THE ENGINE MADE SOME NOISE AND A WARNING WITH A RED LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL: "SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE". BECAUSE THE BREAKS WERE NOT WORKING I ENGAGED THE GEAR SHIFT TO TURN TO THE VEHICLE FROM S/SPORT MODE BACK TO D/DRIVE MODE. I PRESSED THE BREAK PEDAL AGAIN AND AGAIN, STILL NOTHING. THE JEEP REACHED ABOVE 72-77 MPH+ ON THAT STREET HIGHWAY. I WAS WELL BEYOND CONCERNED FOR MY OWN SAFETY BUT FOR THE SAFETY OF THE INTERSECTION IN WHICH I WAS ABOUT TO APPROACH. FINALLY, I WEDGED MY SHOE IN BETWEEN THE FLOOR AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL (WHICH WAS DIFFICULT B/C IT WOULD NOT BUDGE), THE PEDAL FINALLY RELEASED, BUT THERE WAS STILL NO IMMEDIATE REACTION FROM THE ENGINE UNTIL 1-2 COMPLETE SECONDS LATER. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED, SERIOUSLY HURT OTHERS, OR DIED. *TR
TRYING TO SET CRUISE CONTROL ON 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, PUSHED THE SET + BUTTON TO SET CRUISE SPEED, BUT WOULD NOT SET. ALSO TRIED TO JUST ACCELERATE USING THE SET + BUTTON AND THIS WOULD ALSO NOT INCREASE CRUISE SPEED. AFTER NUMEROUS TIMES OF PUSHING SET + THE VEHICLE WOULD SPEED UP AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED THAN THE ONE OR TWO CLICKS. HAD TO EVENTUALLY QUIT USING CRUISE CONTROL AND IT IS WAS UNREALIABLE. HAVE USED IN PAST W/O INCIDENT. HAD VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON 8/13/2014 AND THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE ADDRESSED IN ANY RECALLS OR PROGRAM UPDATES.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PLACED TWO CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS IN THE VEHICLE AND THEY BOTH REGISTERED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF 173 PARTS PER MILLION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR CARBON MONOXIDE EXPOSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE RECTIFIED. ON ONE OCCASION, A TECHNICIAN DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED DUE TO THE WAY THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 11,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000.

CHRYSLER GIVE THE OPTION OF TURNING THE BRAKING OFF OR ON, AND I HAVE IT SET TO "OFF" BUT THERE IS NO SOLUTION AS THEY CANNOT NOW DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM (IT'S SPORADIC). I USED TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH OTHER TECHNOLOGY ERRORS I WAS RECEIVING AND THEY FIXED THE ISSUE INITIALLY, BUT IT'S NOW SPORADIC.
