CrashFiled: Jul 2025

Your airbags failed to deploy when your car was in a rear-end collision at 45 MPH. The driver sustained neck injuries and required medical attention. The vehicle was totaled in the accident. A repair would likely involve inspection and possible replacement of the airbag system components.

NHTSA #: 11672453

Filed: Jun 2020

Your airbag warning light is on, which means the airbag system may not work properly in a crash. You should have this checked by a technician as soon as possible since airbags are a critical safety feature. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the airbag system with a scanner to identify the specific fault and replacing any faulty sensors or wiring.

CrashFiled: Jun 2018

You were involved in a collision with a deer at 55 mph on a highway with your mother and infant daughter in the car. Your airbags did not deploy during the impact, even though the crash was significant enough that you wouldn't have had time to avoid it. The repair or inspection would likely involve having a mechanic or Toyota dealer examine your airbag system sensors and wiring to determine why the system failed to activate.

Filed: Jan 2019

Your 2000 Toyota Camry won't move when you try to drive it, even though the engine starts and no warning lights appear on the dashboard. You called the Toyota dealer and learned your vehicle isn't covered by any recall. The issue occurred at 171,000 miles and hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet. A mechanic will need to inspect the transmission, drivetrain, and related systems to determine why the car won't go into gear or move forward.

NHTSA #: 11170409

Filed: Aug 2022

Your check engine light came on at around 80,000 miles. A mechanic replaced the EGR lines, oxygen sensor, and performed a drive cycle to clear the code, but the problem keeps coming back every year. The underlying cause may not have been fully addressed, as the same warning light returns despite the repairs.

Your check engine light stays on even though diagnostic testing shows no actual problems with the engine. The car drives normally with the light on, but the cause hasn't been identified. A mechanic will need to reset the light and check for faulty sensors or wiring issues that might be triggering the warning.

CrashFiled: May 2021

You were in a crash where your car hit a guardrail and spun out, causing damage to both the front and rear crumple zones. However, your airbags did not deploy during the collision, even though the impact was significant enough to damage the vehicle's structural areas designed to absorb crash energy. A mechanic will need to inspect your airbag system sensors and wiring to determine why the bags failed to activate.

Electrical System1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
FireFiled: Mar 2020

Smoke came from under your dashboard on the passenger side behind the blower motor, indicating the heater resistor had burned out. The burned resistor caused an electrical failure that cut power to your vehicle. Your mechanic determined the resistor, sensor plug, and blower motor all need to be replaced to restore normal operation.

NHTSA #: 11318257
Vehicle Speed Control1 issue
criticalVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
CrashFiled: Mar 2019

Your car unexpectedly accelerated on its own while you were trying to leave a parking spot at low speed, even though you were pressing the brake pedal. The vehicle crashed into a snow bank, and after you restarted it, it accelerated again in reverse and hit a parked car. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for diagnostic testing, and Toyota sent a headquarters mechanic to investigate, but the issue has not yet been repaired.

FireFiled: Nov 2018

Your car caught fire while parked after you noticed the radio flickering and the check engine light came on while driving. When you opened the hood, flames were visible in the engine compartment near the battery on the right side. According to Toyota's investigation, the starter motor failed to disengage from the engine's flywheel, causing it to keep running and overheat, which burned out the starter and melted the positive battery cable. The fire damage was severe enough to total the car at 95,000 miles.

NHTSA #: 11153233
Tires1 issue
criticalTIRES
CrashFiled: Jan 2018

Your front passenger tire blew out at the sidewall while driving 65 mph, causing you to lose control. Your vehicle was then struck by another car and crashed into a guardrail. The airbags did not deploy during the crash. The tire was an Ohtsu FT 7000 size 205/65R15 with about 94,617 miles on it. Addressing this would involve replacing the failed tire and investigating why the airbags didn't deploy during the collision.

NHTSA #: 11061425
Seat Belts1 issue
highSEAT BELTS
Filed: Mar 2026

Your driver's side seat belt isn't working properly — the retractor won't pull the belt back, and the latch won't stay fastened or release when it should. You've notified the dealer about the problem, but it hasn't been fixed yet. Fixing this will likely require replacing the seat belt retractor assembly and latch mechanism.

NHTSA #: 11725602
Electrical System,unknown Or Other1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Feb 2026

Your driver's door handle broke off completely when you tried to open the door, leaving you unable to easily access your car. The plastic handle fractured suddenly rather than gradually wearing down, which you suspect is a design flaw. Additionally, your battery drains quickly even after replacement, requiring frequent idling to recharge. Repairs would likely involve replacing the door handle (preferably with a more durable material) and addressing the battery drain issue, which may require electrical system diagnosis or a solar charging panel.

NHTSA #: 11715832
Service Brakes, Hydraulic1 issue
highSERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
Filed: Dec 2025

Your 1997 Toyota Camry was subject to a recall for the hydraulic brake system, but the required repair part wasn't available when you were notified. You contacted your dealer about the delay and whether the recall applied to your vehicle in a hot climate, but the manufacturer took longer than you felt was reasonable to make the repair part available. You haven't experienced any actual brake failure. The fix will involve replacing the recalled brake component once the part becomes available.

NHTSA #: 11704532
Engine And Engine Cooling, power Train1 issue
highENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN
Filed: Jan 2023

Your car hesitates and doesn't respond immediately when you shift into Reverse or Drive, even though no warning light appears on the dashboard. A mechanic diagnosed that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) vacuum switching valve needs replacement. The vehicle may be difficult or unsafe to drive until this valve is replaced.

NHTSA #: 11500303
Suspension,exterior Lighting1 issue
highSUSPENSION,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Filed: Feb 2022

Your driving lights and backup lights aren't bright enough, and they dim while you're using them even after replacing the bulbs. Your front lights stay on constantly during the day and night. Additionally, your car's rear sways dangerously when driving over smooth or bumpy surfaces like manhole covers, especially when turning. The issues may involve electrical problems with the lighting circuit and worn suspension components that aren't controlling the rear movement properly.

NHTSA #: 11450608
Structure1 issue
highSTRUCTURE
Filed: Feb 2018

Your car's hood keeps popping open while you're driving, which happens repeatedly and unpredictably. Closing and slamming it shut works temporarily, but the problem keeps recurring more frequently. While there's a safety latch that prevents the hood from fully opening, it's still alarming when it happens during driving. The issue may be related to a faulty hood latch cable or the latch mechanism itself, and a mechanic should inspect and replace the worn hood latch assembly or cable.
