CrashFiled: May 2017

While exiting a parking space, your car suddenly surged forward and accelerated on its own, causing it to collide with four other vehicles. This unintended acceleration incident resulted in a crash.

NHTSA #: 10984843
highVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Jan 2015

Your cruise control isn't working properly. When you try to set a specific speed, the car accelerates beyond what you set instead of holding that speed steady. Even after you tap the brakes to slow down, the car speeds up again on its own. This has happened multiple times, forcing you to turn off the cruise control to regain control. The issue may require inspection or replacement of the cruise control module or related electrical components.

Your car may not respond when you press the accelerator pedal, requiring you to push it several times before the engine finally engages and the car moves. This could indicate an issue with the throttle system or fuel delivery that should be inspected by a mechanic.

FireFiled: May 2013

Your car caught fire under the hood while parked in your driveway, just minutes after you arrived home. There were no warning signs beforehand—no unusual smells or visible problems—but smoke and flames suddenly appeared under the hood, requiring the fire department to extinguish it. This could involve inspection of the engine bay for electrical shorts, fuel leaks, or oil accumulation that may have ignited.

Your car stalled while you were driving it, and all the warning lights on your dashboard came on at once. The vehicle was towed home but hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet. This happened at around 150,000 miles.

Air Bags2 issues
criticalAIR BAGS
Filed: Jul 2020

While driving at 60 mph, your vehicle hydroplaned and flipped twice after you applied the brakes. The airbags failed to deploy even though the vehicle experienced a severe crash, and no warning light appeared on the dashboard beforehand. You sustained injuries requiring medical treatment. Addressing this would require a diagnostic inspection of the airbag system's sensors, wiring, and deployment mechanisms to determine why the system failed to activate during the crash.

Filed: Aug 2015

Your airbag warning light has been on continuously for several years while driving, even though your car has never been in an accident and has all original parts. You're concerned about the cost of diagnosis and mention there have been no recalls for this issue on your 1998 Camry model. The airbag system will need to be scanned with diagnostic equipment to identify what's triggering the warning light.

Seat Belts2 issues
criticalSEAT BELTS
Filed: Apr 2016

Starting in 2015, three of your five seat belts stopped latching properly or wouldn't stay latched while driving. The problem is in the anchor mechanism where a metal spring is mounted on a red plastic part — the plastic has cracked at the spring's mounting point, causing the spring to lose its gripping force over time. Your seat belts may feel secure when you first buckle them but then come loose after several minutes of driving. Fixing this requires replacing the seat belt anchor assemblies with new OEM parts.

NHTSA #: 10861255
mediumSEAT BELTS
Filed: Dec 2014

Your back seat center seat belt won't retract back into its housing after being pulled out. This means the belt stays extended and doesn't automatically wind back up like it should. You may need to manually push or pull it back, or it might hang loose in the seat area. The seat belt retractor mechanism likely needs to be inspected or replaced.

CrashFiled: Jul 2015

While driving at 40 mph, your accelerator pedal became stuck against the floorboard. When you pressed the brake pedal, it didn't respond, and you crashed into a concrete median. The airbags failed to deploy during the collision. Addressing this issue would typically involve inspection and potential replacement of the accelerator and brake system components, as well as the airbag system.

Crash / FireFiled: Mar 2014

Your car suddenly became unresponsive to steering inputs and continued straight instead of turning, causing you to lose control and crash into a fence and tree. The vehicle caught fire after the collision, and the airbags failed to deploy during impact. Your passenger suffered serious injuries including facial and chest trauma that required surgery. This issue involves both a complete loss of steering control and a failure of the airbag safety system.

Fuel System, Gasoline1 issue
highFUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Filed: Jun 2014

Your car has a recall issue with the fuel system's EVAP (emissions) system. You may notice the car jerks or hesitates when you accelerate, and it may stall when you come to a stop. The shop found diagnostic trouble codes P0441 and P0446, which indicate a problem with the EVAP system that Toyota has issued a recall for. The fix will likely involve replacing or repairing components in the EVAP system, which can be expensive, but since it's a recall, Toyota should cover the repair cost.

This could involve checking the brake system components, fuel system sensors, or cruise control mechanism.
