2015 Jeep Cherokee Transmission Problems

The car has been suddenly lurching backward and forward in traffic/ while driving, moving forward and backwards unexpectantly and not accelerating at an expected rate, causing other vehicles almost to hit me about 4 times within 1 week starting last week around 12/8/25, because my vehicle is not moving at the expected rate during yielding, changing lanes, etc.

The Power Transfer Unit has been diagnosed by dealer as, "Internal failure within PTU obstructing shift". This unit automatically transfers power to a rear wheel or wheels whenever the front wheel or wheels loses traction/slips due to wet, slick surfaces. This action enables vehicle to regain traction and stabilize control of vehicle.

We bought the car brand new at Lithia Motors in Roseburg Oregon. After just a few months of driving, there was a noticeable clunk in the transmission at approximately 30-40 MPH that occurred at random and included a shudder. The problem seemed to occur about every 3 or 4 days.

After the recall was completed on the drive spline and the software was updated the transmission started to hold gears, miss gears, and hard shift so badly at times where I almost was rear ended getting onto the highway numerous times.

Since very beginning, this vehicle has issue with shifting gears. In the middle of the road, it abruptly shifts the gears with scary noise and whole car vibrates like someone crashes you. I was in the dealer twice for this problem and there was a recall as well.

•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The drive train PTU and it is available for inspection upon request. •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?

We were informed by our dealership, Kaiser Bros in Muncy PA (Jeff Lee; Service Advisor) that our power transfer unit is faulty in our 2015 Jeep Latitude which doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. There are metal flakes in the power transfer units fluid, this could cause an accident as I could lose all power while driving.

I received an error message on the dash that the PTU failed which is a common failure on this Jeep. Mine was diagnosed by a local dealership. They informed me that the PTU ws determined to be ok, and the Transmission Control Module was actually at fault.

“Service shifter” light during driving but goes away. Impossible to figure out how to repair because it doesn’t stay on. This is extremely dangerous and we are worried it would stop working in traffic and cause accident.

Recently my service 4WD light came on in June 2023. My 4 WD system is completely unusable. It is deactivated according to system.

When driving the Jeep and within a speed between 35 and 45 MPH at a steady rate, if you accelerate or decelerate, the transmission slams really hard into the next gear or downshifts hard into the next gear which leads to the snapping of your neck as if it was a whiplash affect.

Power transfer unit failure. Very common and very expensive fix on 2015 Cherokee’s. This caused my vehicle to lose all power on the highway almost resulting in me being rear ended.

When I was driving the gear shift into Netural, all lights on gear shift were lit up red (Park, Reverse, Netural, Drive). The message said “Press brake, Put car in P, Select Gear”. This is so scary because it has happened twice to me.

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk has major shifting problems . It hard shifts at times and doesn’t engage at times which can cause an accident. I have researched online and there are thousands of people complaining about the very same issue.

On 10/30/22 driving the vehicle on a 2 lane road with no shoulder the car locked and stopped in on going traffic with cars avoiding to hit us. State police had to come to due to dangerous situation of accident and car was towed. Towed to jeep dealer and told the transmission needs replaced due to misaligned gear ratio.

Driving down the road. Vehicle made loud noise and although it was in drive it actually shifted into neutral. I was not able to put into gear and I was stuck in middle of road.

This is a complaint about the start stop system and the transmission on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee limited. The start/stop system never worked for more than a few days after having it is repaired. We finally just shut it off manually.

While driving on the freeway, with cruise control set at approximately 69 MPH, my 2015 Jeep Cherokee warning system luminates the Service Transmission and Check Engine lights. While driving home from work. The rear of my vehicle made a sudden shifting forward / jarring effect. Soon after that a notification came up saying "4WD unavailable and a ding lighting saying to service 4WD.

My Jeep dashboard goes black, the vehicle stops in the middle of traffic. When I start the vehicle back up and shift it into drive it make a sound like I got rear ended. The transmission light comes on and the vehicle will only go about 20 MPH.

Attempting to make a left turn onto roadway across traffic traveling at approx 45 MPH. There was a break in traffic. I accelerated.

The described vehicle was subject to recall w47 wherein the ptu splines could degrade causing the vehicle to have no motive power and could roll away. The recall updated the software to essentially instruct the vehicle to engage the parking brake and allow motive power with rear wheel drive.

When starting in motion the car hesitated then jerks into motion. It will jerk between shifting gears in the automatic transmission. Sometimes it jerks so hard like you were rear ended.

I am getting repetitive "service shifter" notices on my dash. This can be a safety issue in more ways than just the issue with the vehicle. #1 - I cannot see how fast I'm going when that is being displayed on my instrument panel.

Transmission does not downshift smoothly during moving turns at intersections. When approaching a turn and gas is off/brake is on, and still rolling at low speed (~5 MPH) and then clear to proceed, brake is off/gas is back on, first shift is very violent, feels like I'm getting re-ended.

When I go to accelerate from a stopped position the vehicle hesitates and does not shift gears. It has made me not be able to pull out into ongoing traffic safely. While the vehicle is in motion it will shift gears at the wrong times and not when I need it too.

I parked the jeep and turned it off and when inside for 10 minutes and started the car to leave and a bunch of lights came on like service engine and drive train. I put it in reverse and a huge clunk from the transmission happened I backed up and put it in forward and a huge clunk happened again. It shocked the whole car.

At 17,000 miles, I started having issues with my cherokee. The first time the engine of the vehicle stalled on me, I was on my way to work. I powered off the engine and it successfully restarted after one attempt.

Near accident. My cherokee got stuck in fourth gear or higher. When I stopped and tried to go again, it creeped very slowly until it reached 40mph.

The transmission bangs intermittently in varying degrees if intensity from noticeable to extreme. When the bang is extreme it feels like the vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. It seems to occur in the lower gears when the vehicle is hot and cold.

The 9 speed transmission on this vehicle does not shift properly, especially through the first 3 gears. I have brought my 2015 jeep cherokee in for transmission issues countless times and have been told this is how this transmission is suppose to operate.

Transmission problems for almost a year now, truck violently jerks forward on acceleration mostly from a dead stop but sometimes in motion and on deceleration has almost caused many front and rear accidents. Recently on my way home from new jersey the check engine light came on indicating service transmission the vehicle lost power while I was on the parkway almost caused an accident.

I purchased my 2015 cherokee 10 months ago and only has 7700 miles but as time has passed the shifting of gears is getting worse. If you let of the gas at 30mph when the car gets to 27mph it accelerates and you can see the RPM increase. When you brake and get to around 20mph the car does the same thing.

After fueling up I pulled out of the driveway and started down the road. About 300 feet down the road the transmission lost power and then reengaged after almost being rear ended. When transmission reengaged the vehicle surged forward.

Vehicle shakes / wobbles when accelerating from a dead stop. The passenger side front tire actually feels loose until approximately 30 MPH. Also, when turning right and / or going up an incline, the front end shakes and the vehicle hesitates.

Multiple incidents of when applying brakes, the tachometer would increase as the jeep down shifted and the jeep would leap forward. Increase in speed. Delays in the ignition switch when starting.

Vehicle performed very well for the first 11,500 until I did a ro1 software recall at dealership. Immediately upon picking up the car, I noticed that the car would no longer shift properly. Dealer claimed that I just needed to "relearn" it.

Transmission has always been "quirky". The transmission software was updated in april. Soon afterwards I started to notice loss of power after slowing down or coming to a near stop.

As I was driving on the highway (cruise control), I raised my right knee which accidentally bumped the ignition key which turned the car off. I turned to key to on, but no help, then start position, again no help. I then put the trans in neutral and was able to restart the engine.

Transmission failed to engage, car would not accelerate, narrowly avoided accident.

10nov14 returned the car to the dealer for p56 recall.24nov14 mil turned on while driving w/ 1099 miles. Returned car to a dealer in thousand oaks.tech resets mil & erased codes. 4mar15 mil turned-on again w/ 4375 miles on the car.

Took vehicle in for ,quoted from notice, " fca us spokeswoman said the transmission software reflash is "intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future." I scheduled this for the next week when I got this notice in the mail. Reflash did not take until second try I was told and everything checked out ok.

I have experienced violent crashing noises/feelings under certain conditions while driving my v6 cherokee trailhawk. I first experienced it at around 1000 miles, then again this morning when I was able to repeat it. I got a violent crash and lurch, when I accelerated, let off, accelerated again, let off, and apply normal throttle to maintain speed.

After 8 prior service visits in the about 3 mos I had owned my jeep, I had to have my transmission replaced due to unintended acceleration, surges/lunging when braking, RPM spikes and check engine light coming on. During the replacement of my transmission, chrysler came out with an transmission flash update to the jeep and it was applied to my new transmission.

3rd time where loss of power & service transmission light & check engine light came on. Dealer service dept advised there is a recall on the tcm & pcm software, they did update on friday & also advised my jeep was giving error p0711-0 code which is transmission temp sensor. They did nothing to address that, just updated software & cleared codes.

A few weeks after I purchased this jeep 2015 cherokee, I noticed that upon deceleration and braking, as the transmission went from one gear to a lower gear, the car would accelerate in the lower gear, lunging the car forward. I want to put another data on what many others have said. There is an issue more with Jeep Cherokee's PTUs than what is currently listed on the recall. My Jeep Cherokee 2015, despite not being on the PTU recall, also had sudden power loss issues.

I’m following up from my previous complaint #11446148. They replaced body control module, radio frequency hub, ignition switch, key fob to ignition switch to resolve a no crank, no power issue. While at the dealership, we were told the Powertrain Control module needed a reprogram per recall W20.

This zf9 transmission is a huge piece of junk and doesn't just impact the jeep cherokee kl. I've owned my 2015 cherokee since new and it has never shifted properly. Dealership replaced at less than 1,000 miles and won't do anything else except a "quick learn" procedure which is bogus and wastes my time.

The transmission has major operating issues. I am experiencing hard shifts, delays in power at start and in middle of turns. Most seriously now the transmission completely stopped working all together out of the blue.

While driving at 70 MPH in fast lane of major high, slight uphill grade, engine RPM increased rapidly and loss of power transfer to wheels as if in neutral. We have had our jeep in the shop four times with transmissions issues of shifting hard and now going into neutral when in drive and the brakes going hard and the jeep coming to a stop. The anit slide has now came on and the jeep shakes .

3-4 months after purchasing my 2015 jeep cherokee sport I got a "service shifter soon" message and all the lights on the gear shift lit up. I had the car towed to a dealer and they "fixed" the problem under warranty. Now, out of warranty, the same message and lighting of the gear shift lights is happening again.

April, 2019: every thing on the dash lit up. Car started to roll and we had to jump out of the car to stop it. It wouldn't go into park, but parking brake worked for a while.

When temperatures reach below freezing or above 80 degrees, my car will send an error message when I place the car in reverse. The error message reads, 'service shifter'. When the car is then placed in park and turned off and back on, the error message will leave the screen.

Driving along with vehicle in motion, the engine stalls out and continues to roll, but does not operate. Car must come to a complete stop, rest and then try to restart - very dangerous on the highway. A message comes on stating "vehicle must be in gear to shift" or something close to that - but there has been no shifting on my part at all.

We purchased this vehicle used in 2017. Within a few months we noticed that when taking off, the car often stalled or lurched forward. This often seemed to happen in the morning or after sitting overnight, so we assumed it might just be that the engine needed to 'warm up'.

2015 I started having problems at 6 months since then I have had it back to the dealership 9 times sometimes it has to be towed in is not driveable same problem but every time I get it back the problems are worse since about the 18th of aug this year I have had the car only 9 days this is now dec 3rd it has been in the shop sometimes 3 or 4 days some times as long 3 or 4 weeks the transmission clunks like it is falling out all the lights go out will not shift it also shuts down when driving it one time in the middle of an intersection this is getting really dangerous for me as well as anyone else on the road with me I have been in touch with chrysler customer care lady named lori she says I am out of the perimeter for buy back they did not know what is wrong with this car I am making car payments and insurance on a car I can't drive and don't even ave most of the time.

Vehicle keeps stalling while driving down the street in motion

My jeep's transmission in gears 1 and 2 will sporadically have issues with hesitations, stalling, jerking the car forward, and loud clunk sounds during shifting. I will be at a stop sign stopped, push the gas to go and it will hesitate for 1 second, then jolt forward when it decides to move.

At 47,351 miles the cylinder head on cylinder # 4 failed causing the engine to stall and run rough. Jeep dealer is replacing it under a factory warranty

While driving on the freeway at 65mph, the car gave me a "transmission service" alarm and then the car lost power and eventually stopped. No response to acceleration and eventually to steering control. I turned off the engine and waited approximately 3 minutes, turned the key and then the car started and was able to drive it with no issues.

The shifter is faulty. If I'm at a stop sign I never know if my jeep is going to stall or if it's going to thrust me into traffic. I was inches away from being hit by a semi because of this.

While driving, engine stops, lost power all power. Driving on road in traffic. This occured 3 different times.

The transmission is not working when the vehicle is shifted into drive,reverse, no power sent to the wheels only revs up. The vehicle also makes a grinding noise when the vehicle is placed into park and check engine light is on. An indicator states on the dash states get transmission serviced.

Nine speed automatic transmission. This is a safety issue. The transmission in the lower range of gears searches for the proper speed gear and when it finds one, it jumps into gear causing the vehicle to lurch and at times causes the vehicle to over accelerate.

Five times, transmission had shifted into neutral at an intersection, emergency brake goes on, dashboard lights up and last time had to have it towed to dealership. Jeep finally recalled it in august, but have no parts available to fix it.

I was driving home from work 9/20/2016. My service transmission light came on and I lost power in my gas pedal. Would not go.

9 speed transmission is unreliable and very rough to drive. won't shift up when it needs to, on occasions slams into gear especially from 3rd to 4th jerking the vehicle when it does and downshifts roughly. The software has been updated twice but problems remain.

I have a 2015 cherokee trailhawk 3.6l v6 love it except for the issues. This is my very first and very last fca jeep product I will own unless this vehicle somehow becomes reliable. At 3,860 miles while driving my power windows failed it will not go up or down and my blind spot monitor which I paid extra for and depend on for added safety failed at the same time.

I purchased my jeep at garden city jeep on 06/06/16 & the vehicle test drove fine (for the 10 minutes I got to drive the vehicle). Upon owning it for a few days I noticed that there was a wobble in the front end when traveling between 0-20mph specifically when the vehicle shifted between 1st & 2nd gear when going both straight or making a right turn.

The transmission lunges won't shift right bangs, sometimes the RPM will raise quite a bit then bang into gear it jurky when shifting sometimes the RPM will raise to almost 3000 befor shifting.the jeep has 11500 miles on it I had the jeep into the dealer after first couple months of ownership I have had it to the dealer about 4 or 5 times for this problem last monday was the last time right now I have a jeep customer rep and she wants me to take it back in wednesday may 18 to have a tech rid along again the dealer says they know about the problems but their is nothing they can do until chrysler has fixes for the transmission.

First week of ownership I noticed a very odd shifting were the jeep would lung forward from 1st to 2nd gear at about 5mph, hard shifts, and was struggling to find gears at 35-40mph along with a nonresponsive gas pedal that spooked me during many acceleration instances of slow speeds and highway speeds.

My 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk has 5000 miles on it and the transmission shifts really hard and at times on take off it stalls really bad,almost got me hit because the transmission was not shifting and performimg like it should. This problem has been happening very often. Im afraid one day its gonna get me killed or injured .

Problem started while moving. Now it's as soon as it startsmy problem started june 2015, whole dash lights up tire pressure,service air bag,4WD unavailable,brake failure,and when comes to stop disengages transmission.same thing started again august 3rd 2015 same list again. Received back again sept 2nd 2015 drove for 2 days.

The vehicle service engine light keeps coming on, service transmission light comes on. Vehicle shifts in and out of gear on its own. Parking brake activates on its own.

I have owned this vehicle for 4 months and every 3 weeks I have to return it for service due to the transmission, 4x4 and traction control not working.

Bought the car new in jan. Noticed first issue in june 2015 when it had no power going up a steep hill. End of june check engine light came on and start/stop unavailable.

Vehicle will not accelerate properly. Turning right into traffic car loses power almost hit. This has happened on several occasions.

I was driving to work and car started to die. I was driving around 30 MPH and car started to slow down. I came to the point where I was was ready to take a left turn so started to turn but the car died and an oncoming car almost hit me.

When reducing speed once at about 35mph the vehicle wants to accelerate. Vehicle was in the shop from jan. 20th 2015 feb.

Transmission stalls alot and is very sluggish , really afraid to let my son ride in the jeep because im scared we will get hit because you have no power to get out of the way.

The powertrain is frequently unresponsive and there is often a significant lag time between pressing the accelerator and receiving any response from the powertrain when trying to accelerate from a full stop. Sometimes the vehicle responds immediately but other times it feels as if it can take a full second or more for the vehicle to respond.

The transmission issue has been occurring intermittently, but the jeep in inoperable when the transmission failure is occurring. The transmission has failed to engage when starting the car or when the auto start/stop sequence occurs while driving. The screens pop up on dash including 4WD failure, parking brake failure, and service transmission.

I bought the car mid october 2014 and began noticing it did not shift properly - would "hang up" in lower gear when it should shift. Took it to the dealership (mileage aprx 2,500) which said it was "throwing codes" so they adjusted the transmission.

We were driving cross-country, far from home when the service light came on at 5,645 miles. Fortunately, we broke down in a city with a jeep dealer nearby that could scan the codes. We learned that the transmission control module indicated a problem with the transmission.

Transmission responsiveness has very long (greater than one whole second) delay from driver input to actual power delivery. This leads to frequent near misses in dense traffic, particularly merging from a secondary street to a highway. I have not driven any other vehicle with a delay this extended.

I purchased a latitude v6 2wd 2 months ago. This past sunday, while stopping at a stop light, the car made a dinging noise, the check engine light came on along with the message that the start/stop feature was not working. When I began to accelerate, the car would not shift gears and by the time I got to 40 MPH my RPM's were at 4,000.

Went in for software update for transmission in april. Started experiencing differences in shifting which I was told would be normal and the result of the software update to prevent wear on the transmission. Gradually got worse, had moments of loss of power when trying to pass/accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor.

I leased the vehicle on 6/17/15. Within a week the service park brake light came on briefly. Dealership said it was a fluke.

6/19/2015: transmission/electrical issue when attempting to shift the vehicle into reverse it would shift into neutral instead. Had to shift to park and then back to reverse before the vehicle went into gear. This was the fourth occurrence of this issue since purchase date.

Purchased new and drove home 60 miles parked vehicle for about 45 minutes. Drove to nearby parking lot to test out park assist, pressed park assist button and then reverse, then drive and vehicle would no longer move. Dash warning lights came on and message service transmission and restart vehicle.

Car would not want to shift, all lights came on to check engine, transmission, and service park brake. I was on a rural logging road at time, so took multiple tries to get it into gear. After finally getting into gear couldn't go faster than 40.

4/3/15 transmission recall work completed. 4/25/15 car would not shift properly. Email of notification from jeep at time light came on read: malfunction indicator light indicates your vehicle needs service, prolonged driving could cause damage to the engine control system.

Purchased a 2015 jeep cherokee latitude 4x4 on 2/28/2015. Started having issues with the transmission hesitating and jerking into gear. Took it to the dealership on 5/1/2015 and was informed that there is a computer glitch that the manufacturer is aware of, but there is no fix for it.

When brakes are pressed the engine revs up, and jerks, the rpms shot up, then plummet, and the power surges, and you feel the car struggle to find the correct gear. Service engine light on, cannot be reset by dealer when at a stop and going up incline, no power at all may 1. 2015 brought to dealer.

Jeep performed a recall on tcm/pcm for the 9 speed transmission. Now at low speeds 2-5mph in an intersection or from a stop sign, or slow down on railroad tracks the car will not move even with the gas pedal to the floor, up to a 5 second delay.

After doing the jeep cherokee power train recall for the transmission my car would only drive from a flat surface to a hill at 20 MPH and then drift slowly down speed wise.

I had just descended in center city heavily congested traffic from the entrance pass. About a 2000 foot decent. I was entering a traffic circle and slowed for traffic, pushing down on the brake pedal, it kicked back at me with substantial force.

While decelerating in drive with the foot off the gas, or under light gradual braking, when the automatic transmission downshifts as the car slows between 25 and 20 MPH, engine speed increases in the lower gear and the car accelerates slightly.this acceleration, with the foot off the gas and when one expects the car to be slowing down, though relatively mild, is nonetheless disconcerting and perhaps potentially dangerous.

Started the car and several warning lights were on check transmission, service parking brake called the dealer & were told it was safe to drive as long as the lights were not blinking.lights were not blinking drove toward the closest dealer (we were on vacation) we were told by the dealer the car may reset itself and after a few minutes of driving lights went out #2incident - jan 7, 2015 stopped at a light and check transmission, service parking brake came on again, RPM 's were high but the car would accelerate slowly called the dealer and drove it in.

My 2015, brand new jeep has been acting sluggish, with a delay in shifting, poor highway pickup for a few weeks. My 17 year old daughter drove it a long distance and complained of similar issues. While driving to meet a friend the car began to loose power on the highway, there was no response when I stepped on the gas.

Car is in great shape, however, recently the Service AWD has popped up. brought it to the Reedman JEEP Dealership - they say its a bad PTU. Now I see a bunch of people have the bad PTU. Now I have a car in great shape minus the fact I won't be able to sell it or trade it in for full value and it cots thousands to fix.

I’m submitting a complaint regarding a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my Jeep (VIN: [XXX] ), which affects the drivetrain and vehicle propulsion. On 11/26/2025, my vehicle was evaluated by Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bowie after dashboard warnings “Service 4WD” and “Service Shifter” appeared.

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee VIN [XXX] threw a code on the ptu.I saw that it had a extended warranty on the car. When I took it to the dealer they informed me that car was imported to canda when bought.

Continual problems with Power train led to replacement of the Power Transfer Unit at 94,910 miles [ under warranty ] The vehicle is not usable when the PTU fails. The vehicle will slam into gear hard, or fail to move for a few seconds when trying to take off from a stop sign and then slam into gear. Very dangerous when pulling into traffic. Now after experiencing the same erratic behavior at 123000 miles , i took the jeep back to the same dealer only to find the Power transfer unit again must be replaced. The replacement only lasted about 28,000 miles. I am retired, this jeep has not been abused nor driven off road. This could cause an accident or strand me somewhere making me afraid to drive it. This problem seems to occur often with this model and also has reduced the value of this vehicle .

The contact stated that the failure had mainly occurred while driving between 2nd and 3rd gear, and between 1st and 2nd gear. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle is exhibiting all the same mechanical issues as others that have been covered under a recall pertaining to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). I took it to an authorized dealer and they discovered the input splines on the PTU are worn badly and suggested a PTU replacement as well as a rear axle replacement. They did the software update to reprogram the PTU and that was supposed to correct the issue. I had to pay for the software update, whereas, yet again this update was covered on other Jeep Cherokee's of the same make, model, and year. The dealer is saying that I will have to pay out of pocket for the PTU, and rear axle replacement since my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited does not have the particular recall for its VIN number. This vehicle is a safety risk to drive with these unaddressed issues that others have had addressed previously. I am told by the dealership that the vehicle is not unsafe to drive as is, however, NHTSA previously qualified these vehicles to be unsafe that have these issues pertaining to the recall previously referenced. Since I am told by the dealership that the vehicle is safe to drive as is and furthermore, the vehicle is not covered for a recall repair for the issue I am experiencing, I will continue to drive the vehicle with the safety concern, however, I am not responsible for anything that may result from driving it in the current condition.

My car is hesitant in changing gears. I must put it in drive before it will go in reverse

This vehicle is driven by my [XXX] daughter. The service 4x4 light came on . I took it to the dealer and they told me they updated the software. Well not even a week later the 4x4 light was back on and the ABS light. My daughter called me in a panic because the brakes were locking up. She was able to get the truck to the shoulder. I had the vehicle towed to a Jeep Chrysler dealership. I paid over $2500.00 to have vehicle repaired to only have the same 4x4 light on. I took truck back to the dealership to be told that it’s the PTU on the vehicle. Which the service guy Mark said is a common problem with these vehicles. I asked him if it’s ok to drive and he said well the car could be a safety issue . So I did my own research and saw that there were recalls on this same year vehicle and I am questioning why my vehicle was not recalled. If this issue poses a highly likely safety issue than why isn’t all vehicle of 2015 Jeep Cherokee being recalled and the issue being fixed. My truck is still at the dealership and the cost to repair is over $3000.00 which is absolutely insane for Jeep to be aware of an issue in the manufacturing. I am lucky that my [XXX] daughter recognized an issue and had the wherewithal to get the vehicle in a safe location, and thank GOD that she wasn’t on the freeway. Electrical system/Transmission malfunctioned causing engine to shift into neutral while driving and cause engine to shut down and refuse to start again. The issue seems to only happen whenever the engine is up to temperature and the fan is active. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealership and they said the throttle body was the issue, after replacement the issue still persists. There is no warning lights or symptoms. It will happen either at rest or in motion. I was driving yesterday and it happened after I had completed a lane change and was almost hit by a semi. This is not the first instance of it occurring.

Took vehicle to garage after hearing rattling sound, mechanic said that PTU shaft almost completely came off due to spline wear. He said there should be an active recall specifically for this issue, so referred us to Jeep dealership for repair. The Jeep dealership said that the only active recall is for the powered lift gate module. However, my VIN was not included in the W47 recall (NHTSA 20V-343), even though my vehicle has the same problem. The Jeep dealership wants to replace the entire transmission mount for $516, but the other mechanic states this will likely not fix the problem.

The vehicle shows "4wd system unavailable service required" i took the vehicle to the dealership where they stated the PTU transfer case is not shifting. Dealership did not fix and said it is not covered under the recall for the PTU.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under warranty; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing hard and erratic transmission shifts, was shuddering, and was making abnormal grinding sounds. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the PTU was replaced a second time under warranty. The contact stated that while driving from the dealer, the 4-Wheel Drive Mode engaged unintendedly. The contact stated that the vehicle remained stuck in 4-Wheel Drive mode and was undrivable. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the PTU, the transmission, and the drivetrain control module had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

at 21,734 miles the transmission has failed and cause the engine to rev to 5000RPM in park. service technician found excessive metal in transmission fluid and recommends replacing transmission, transmission cooler and transmission lines for $8085 plus tax. Technician was able to recreate the action of engine revving to 5000RPM once in park.

4WD stopped working shortly after purchase. Light comes on and off at will.

All Recalls for 2015 jeep Cherokee 2.4 wasn’t done properly and caused more damage. Transaxle harness, pscm, maniverter and more caused engine damage to block, which was supposed to be replaced during recall for oil consumption. Now dealer is wanting to charge me for damages pertaining to recalls and new engine block that wasn’t replaced during xb1 and x80 recall warranty. I was almost hit on highway from vehicle stalling out at highspeed and maniverter turning red from 20 minutes of driving from picking up from dealer after u90 recall was supposedly fixed. Constant dash notifications of throttle and shifter as well. I’ve already contacted legal advice and I just want my vehicle running properly, new vehicle or compensation. Everything on this vehicle needs replaced dealing with faulty pcm tcm bcm ecu pscm all harnesses practically entire vehicle.

I am filing this complaint to report a seemingly common ongoing and worsening transmission issues in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which persist and have become significantly worse after receiving the U90 recall update and a subsequent TCM/PCM software update offered by Jeep. My vehicle shifted regular before the update After the update, the vehicle began exhibiting: •Harsh and delayed shifting •Sudden jerks and gear hunting during low-speed driving •Uncommanded downshifts •Severe hesitation from a stop, especially at intersections or in traffic •Loss of power under throttle, with unpredictable shifts These symptoms make the vehicle unsafe in daily driving — especially in traffic or at intersections — as it often fails to respond predictably when attempting to accelerate or shift gears. The transmission behavior feels erratic, and software updates have not resolved the issue. Despite the U90 recall and repeated visits to the dealer, the transmission continues to perform poorly and poses a safety concern. Other owners have reported similar issues post-recall. Jeep has not issued a full recall for these problems beyond software updates, which clearly do not solve the underlying mechanical or calibration issues Resolution Sought: I urge NHTSA to: •Investigate post-U90 transmission behavior in the 2015 Jeep Cherokee •Consider a formal recall or service campaign for the ZF 9-speed transmission (9HP) due to persistent performance and safety problems •Require Jeep to provide a permanent fix for affected owners

The contact stated that the following day, he observed condensation under the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The 4WD unavailable notification is displayed on the Jeep. I took the vehicle to a mechanic, and was told that the Power Transfer Unit needs to be replaced. Currently in a battle with a Jeep dealership, over whether or not they should honor the extended warranty on the PTU.

The transmission has had issues since we purchased the vehicle. The issues sometimes makes you feel unsafe when accelerating. Issues include hard shifting in lower gears, jerking, lurching, and sudden surges when accelerating.

This issue occurred when I started the vehicle. Control panel showing Service 4WD and Four-Wheel Drive Unavailable. The dealership retrieved code C14A7-97 (PTU Motor - Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked) noting internal damage to PTU...PTU needs to be replaced. Quote to replace over $10K. There is another safety recall for the PTU but this code is not covered. I do not see how normal driving could cause "internal damage" to the PTU and cannot understand how this does not relate to any already known issues with the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk PTU system.

Car repeatedly says “Shift to Park” when in any gear.

Since I bought the car Periodic here and there hesitation when going from complete stop to pressing gas to go . Traffic coming towards us and still hesitant to go (sometimes had to pull to the side and other times finally caught on and went) so took it in for tune up had spark plugs replaced and over time periodic hesitation happening again.

PTU has been replaced out of pocket and will need to be again. Also when turning right it feels as if a fuel cut happens. Every other year has been addressed but mine has not been tho 2015 has been know to be one of the worst years

Hi, There are numbers of recalls and 3 of the recalls came back. I got engine light with the codes U0402 Implausible Data Received From TCM U0164 Lost Communication With HVAC Control Module TCM BCM and PCM needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. Also car is accelerating while cruise control is set.

Transmission issues since purchase. Chokes, shifts in and out of gear. Service shifter light.

About six weeks ago the "check 4WD" light started coming on intermittently and would then go off. I had the car checked before a road trip (that we didn't take for safety reasons) and my shop found a 2020 recall (W48/NHTSA 20E-037) for "all Chrysler models." I brought the car to Jeep of Chicago on [XXX] and the diagnostic found metal particles in the PTU fluid.

SER 4WD lights and beeps went on they turn off and back on within 5 minutes. Took to a repair shop and they stated it’s a PTU. However can’t get it fixed because no parts are available .

The service shifter light comes on intermittently on my 2015 jeep Cherokee latitude. Service shifter light comes on dash and all lights on the shifter assembly are solid red. The service shifter light will not go off until the car is turned off and back on.

Driving on highway and SVC 4WD indicator appeared then an alert message on dash saying sensor overheated and 4WD is no longer available. Had a loss of acceleration, poor shifting, and hard grinding noise coming from either the ptu or transmission.

I have had this shifter on my car changed and serviced 4 times and I still have an issue. The car keeps saying service shifter everytime I reverse. Barking brake module needed to be replaced.

I went to muffler man hearing a noise in the undercarriage and they found it to be in the powertrain area when I'm driving it, it sounds like the wheel spinning is missing skipping some of the teeth. When it happened I was in a left turn lane waiting to turn when I finally turned it sounded kinda like a pop noise then it started making grinding noise.

Our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is being recalled for transmission and power lift gate. These parts cannot be fixed because the parts are not avaiable. Also they updated the navigation and UCONNECT and vehicles 2015-2018 are not eligible for the update.

While driving moderately at about 45 miles per hour I heard a clunk in the drivetrain and the vehicle would no longer propel itself and I was in the middle lane in traffic during rush hour. I nearly got hit three times attempting to get out of the middle lane. Once I got to the right lane I managed to coast up a driveway and coast backwards into a parking spot.

Rear Differential. It is available for inspection. Problem confirmed by 3 auto establishments.

The Jeep Cherokee Latitude suddenly quit running on freeway with no warning. Car would not travel but coasted to a stop. She was lucky no one was close by or the car would have been plowed into from behind.

Power transfer unit went out. Service 4WD light came on. Took it in to a jeep dealer to have them figure out what was going out

Yesterday, I began experiencing transmission-related issues: rough, delayed or sudden shifting; grinding noise during shifting; harsh engagement of gears; and reduced power when shifting. The ‘Service Shifter’ indicator came on while driving.

Transmission has been a problem since purchase. Numerous repairs done without success and finally they replaced the entire transmission. Still had problems.

Vehicle emits a loud thug/clunk when driving at lower speeds and gears shifting. No other Jeeps I have owned have done this. They will not look into whether or not it is the Transmission or PTU issue.

PTU making noises about to go out

SVC 4WD service light came on 02/04/2023 at 51000 miles 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. Took it into Jeep dealer to check it out and was reported that the PTU was bad and needs to be replaced. Warranty not valid due to more than 5 years.

I was making a left turn onto the southbound roadway which which consists of six Lanes. I was getting up to approximately 35 MPH when the parking symbol light came on and the screen was showing service parking brake and service transmission. I was still in Drive when the car started coasting and when I stepped on the gas, all it did was revved.

After a Jeep Dealership performed a recall, the Service Shifter indicator came on. The indicator blocks important information on the dash screen such as speed and other vehicle info. There was no issue or light that appeared prior to the dealer getting their hands on to the car.

Transmission shifter failure intermittent inability to place in park . Service shifter light on with no repair available. Entire shifter and bezel and wiring replaced, and problem came back within one years' time.

vehicle loses power sometimes when the gear shift is D position of the 9 speed automatic transmission. This has happened 3 times in one week. The saftey concern is that two of those times were while crossing a busy intersection.

Ptu need repair. My Jeep cherokee 2015 have issue with the ptu motor operation. I cant drive my car now.

The ptu is damaged and needs to be replaced this car was well taking car of and now it needs a needs ptu I need help this should be part of a recall on this they want over 4000,00 to fix it , how is this vehicle not part of the recall

When slowing down to stop the transmission would thrust the vehicle forward. Upon inspection by the dealer it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle only had 86,000 miles at this time.
