While driving on the highway, your Ford Escape suddenly lost power and began smoking heavily. Component: Engine and Engine Cooling: Cooling System (Thermostat Housing / Water Outlet) What happened: My 2013 Ford Escape developed a fast coolant leak from the thermostat housing/water outlet. Coolant drains quickly and the engine overheats within minutes. The engine has overheated twice while driving on the highway, which created a dangerous situation. This matches the overheating and coolant loss problems covered under Ford recalls 17S09 and 18S07, but my VIN is not included. How often: The leak happens continuously while driving. Coolant loss occurs rapidly and overheating follows if coolant isn’t refilled. Injuries/fires/crashes: No. The engine overheated twice on the highway, but I was able to pull over safely each time. Inspected or repaired: Yes. A mechanic diagnosed a coolant leak from the thermostat housing. Ford replaced the water pump and gasket in 2015 for a similar leak. The engine light came on a few weeks after I purchased this used vehicle from Ford. I got s diagnosis on it the other day at Oreillys they said “Thermostat coolant”, we added the necessary liquids. Got it checked out at a Ford dealership the other day and they say they see no issue with the thermostat cooler, but an issue with the standpipe. I search online and see a recall about this issue in the past.

The transmission in my vehicle failed and had to be completely rebuilt before the car even reached 90,000 miles. Additionally, the vehicle has been leaking coolant. I have read that there are known recalls for coolant leaks on vehicles of the same year, make, and model as mine, which may be related to the issue I’m experiencing. Component or system that failed: The transmission failed and required a full rebuild. The coolant system is also leaking. Both systems are available for inspection if needed. •Safety risk: The transmission failure caused sudden performance issues, which could have led to an accident if it had happened while driving at highway speeds. The coolant leak puts the engine at risk of overheating, which could also lead to a breakdown or safety hazard while on the road. •Reproduction or confirmation: The transmission issue was confirmed by a certified transmission repair shop that performed the rebuild. The coolant leak is ongoing and observable. •Inspection by third parties: The transmission was inspected and rebuilt by an independent service center. The coolant leak has not yet been officially diagnosed by a dealership, but I plan to have it inspected soon. •Warning lamps or messages: There were no warning lamps for the transmission before failure, but symptoms such as slipping and rough shifting occurred prior to the rebuild. For the coolant leak, low coolant level warnings and engine temperature alerts have appeared intermittently, which first began a few months ago.

Coolant seems to be leaking at a fast rate. The leakage is inconsistent it sometimes a lot but other times a little. Constantly filling coolant reservoir with coolant yeah it’s leaking somewhere out of the bottom of the car.

My car was stuck in park and would not shift into D,N,R,S, or any other gear. There is recall on the shift cable bushing, which is the exact issue that the Ford dealership has repaired and I was charged. I informed them that perhaps my VIN was not included per my car is having the safety recall issue. They were not willing to find out or give me a proper explanation. I was under the impression that if it's safety recall there is no issue on the matter.

My 2013 Ford Escape SEL FWD has been having warning light to "check engine" for a while. Mechanic read a misfire and changed thing. As it continued, Mechanic said computer needed to be "flashed" since it was not an engine problem they found. It went into check engine between 48-55 mph. Later the engine just quit with hot engine warning and antifreeze was empty. Refilled, drove home. The car continually runs our of fluid without obvious signs of leakage. This antifreeze problem continues, occasionally we see smoke from the engine but cannot find a source when we pull over to look. Smells like antifreeze. The car can drive 50-60 miles on a full antifreeze reservoir before getting too hot. I see multiple concerns over this issue but no recall.

Constant coolant leak and not sure where the coolant is going. Have replaced the reservior, valve cover gasket, cylinder head and valves, coolant level bottle sensor, coolant thermostat, and engine coolant temperature sensor. Check engine light is still on and Coolant is still leaking and engine overheating. Can't find where the leakage is and there is no visible evidence on the floor of the garage. Losing coolant obvious because the level is low ever 2-3 days of highway driving. Car will shut down because of the overheating. Mechanic doesn't know what else to do. Car was purchased on June 4, 2024. Have not received the title or license plates. Tried to return it to the company who sold it to me; however, owner of the company refused to refund my money.

Unknown. Vehicle was coming to a stop and it "surged" forward. Brakes applied could not stop it. Caused accident, it hit the car in front which hit the next car in line. There were injuries. If this vehicle had surged in front of a pedestrian, there could have been a fatality. Vehicle was inspected by insurance company to determine cost to repair, not looking for cause. Vehicle wad totaled.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Coolant system is experiencing major leak at the coolant stand pipe. Also vehicle is reading a protection code and vehicle appears to be overheating but it's not. Coolant leak is seeping onto the belts and hoses that were also replaced. Engine seals have also leaked and have been recently replaced several times. Vehicle is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Safety recall 13S12 with a risk of localized overheating of the engine cylinder head that may lead to oil leaks and fires was not completed per the procedure provided by FORD motor company. The dealership that was responsible for completing the recall located at 488 U.S 1 Highway in Vero Beach Florida in 2019 is no longer operating. Several components of the 64 page recall were not completed as verified by a copy of the work order I have in my possession. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, my ford service advisor in Thomasville, GA has verified that this recall was not done properly and that my car falls under the manufacturer year that was negatively effected by this common problem with all cars produced within the same specific time frame by the manufacturer (FORD). The loss of coolant and potential overheating of the engine is a major common issue with this vehicle make/year/model. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, check engine light is currently on and a protection code for the engine overheating has displayed on dash board for several months however my service advisor has advised me to contact ford motor company. Ford has told me to file a complaint with your division. Battery also drains repeatedly.

From the day I bought the vehicle, it had coolant leak issues. I read that Ford knew this so they installed a feature where the vehicle will shut down/not move if there is low coolant, so as to avoid fires. An abrupt stop is very dangerous as well depending on location. $1000s later and years later, the leaks turned into not being able to hold any coolant at all. I took it to FORD they kept for 6 months and when I got the car back, it no longer drove. I took to another shop and they said there is a class action lawsuit for the issue and that the turbo needs to be replaced. That would almost $5k in repairs… due to labor costs. I loved this car even thought it’s been problematic. I would love nothing more than to have it working again, but not for that price.

2013 Ford Escape SE, So according to my local Ford dealership, which is where this vehicle was purchased, this particular year/model has an issue with the engine where coolant will leak into the head and warp the head seizing a spark plug(s), which customers will not find out about until it comes time to actually replace the spark plugs. Our vehicle has less than 100,000 miles on it, and was purchased in full (no loan/lease). This is a pretty BIG manufacturer's defect. It is also (according to my local Ford dealership), a common problem, but not common enough for ford to do anything about it. Someone buys a product and it has a manufacturer's defect, but won't do anything to correct it that's pretty crappy, leaving people like me that is laid off to try to foot a bill of several thousand dollars for something that again, should be fixed by ford. Again according to my local Ford dealership, Ford changed some things in manufacturing after learning about this. After calling my local Ford dealership and then Ford corporate, all they told me is A. there's no extended service program on my vehicle and that it was only offered on select VINs, and B. Call NHTSA. (So basically pushing this off on other's/another agency.). Also note, my local Ford dealership, NOR Ford corporate are willing to give me anything in writing. (I wonder why). 2013 Ford Escape transmission bushing breakage / separation where the shifter cable attaches to the transmission crank. Our vehicle had this problem and the bushing broke, leaving the vehicle stuck in Reverse. Almost crashed into the car parked behind me while attempting to parallel park. This appears obviously related to the highly published 2013-2016 Ford Escape recall problem, but my VIN has yet to be added to the log for recall and repairs. Please add my VIN so my group / production batch can be serviced. Ford wants to charge us close to $200 because our batch is missing from the recall list. "According to Ford's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a damaged or missing bushing inside the transmission may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the selected gear. The vehicle therefore could roll away because it's not actually in Park, or it could drive in an unintended direction when the operator selects Drive or Reverse. A vehicle that is shut off when not in Park might not be able to be restarted."

Received Ford 2013 Escape recall #22S43. Took my car to Moon township Ford, Moon Twp PA on 6/27/2023 for PA inspection and recall repair. I was informed that the vehicle would not pass inspection unless I paid $612.00 for the bushing. They deny knowledge of recall even thought I left a copy in the vehicle when it was dropped off. Took car away from them today. In addition, my appt. was made 1 MONTH in advance of 6/27/2023 @ 8:30. I was informed at 4:00 pm it had not been looked at yet and asked for $612 for the bushing part. This is unacceptable and I will now seek legal recourse

The gear shift is locked in the neutral position. I took my baby took the aquarium the car drove fine we live 2 hours away. Upon leaving I was unable to shift the car into the drive position. The gear shift moved from park to neutral and would not move. The car displayed it was in neutral even though the car seemed like it was in the parked position. Applied emergency break but was unable to fix gear shift. Had to Uber with a baby 2 hours home because we were stranded.

I own a 2013 Ford Escape with EcoBoost. I bought it used about 6 years ago and it has been problematic from the start. First the engine coolant and engine light kept coming on with no noticeable leak, had it checked at Auto Zone was told it was the engine coolant bypass valve, had it replaced. The vehicle has run hot twice causing the engine to shut down on me, once on my way to work and once when taking my son to the Doctor. Continued to have the same issue with coolant, had to get the water pump replaced at the dealership last May. The engine coolant warning light started reappearing with leakage issues again and the vehicle began losing power and cutting off about 2 months ago. I took it back to the dealership and all they could find was a valve cover gasket leak. They stated that the oil from the valve cover gasket may be leaking onto other components and causing the car to cut off. They repaired that for a whopping $1150. The car started cutting off on me again about a month after that repair so it is currently at the dealership where they're telling me that the Turbocharger wastegate solenoid valve needs to be replaced for $950 and if that doesn't solve the problem then I will need to replace the engine. Ford should be ashamed! This vehicle should be part of the many recalls regarding these same type issues as I have read. I called Ford customer service, all they did was run the VIN which the dealership and I have done many times, told me that my vehicle did not qualify for any special programs and all warranties had expired, said I could pay for the repairs and hold onto my receipt in case there were recalls later. I am a single parent and I just cannot afford these repairs. Other recalls repaired such as the door latch which is very dangerous as I experienced my left side passenger door opening while driving on the highway with my special needs son in the backseat, before the recall, smh, thought we had done something wrong...this car is a true lemon.

Fords recall 22V413000 was not repaired the shifter thing cause me to send my car into the unknown hands of two different texas dealerships after the 1st dealerships service on that recall ford sent me a letter stating after a quality assessment they were not sure the tech completed the job they were billed for and ask me to take it to a dealer to have it checked for that issue and was told I needed a new alternator less than 30 day later while driving the car quit shifting correctly would not shift into reverse. Transmission fault service soon lite up and the same second dealership told me the transmission clutch had burned up and it would cost me $ 5,700.00 to replace it with a new transmission. Now I’m totally without transportation

Steering assist light comes on when I turn vehicle on without warning. It makes it very hard to turn the wheel when it comes on. Our 2013 Ford Escape was recently taken in to a Ford Dealership for recall 22s43 transmission shifter cable bushing. The service team performed a replacement of shifter cable bushing, installed a protective cap, and adjusted the shifter as per recall. A few weeks later the transmission fault signal came up on our dashboard and the car would not shift into gear and it had to be towed home. Could the replacement have been faulty or not installed correctly, considering there were no reports of transmission issues when the vehicle was taken in to the dealership.

We received a letter from the dealership regarding a recall due to the transmission shifter cable bushing possibly being damaged or missing. The safety recall still has not been addressed. Today we were parked in the car and it started to roll forward I reached down from the passenger side and pushed the break with my hand to stop the car from rolling onto the road into oncoming traffic. I had my husband and kids in the car. I called the dealership but no one answered. This issue is very concerning as I use the car every day for work.

My shifter cable was broken first in May 2022 because I switched to park and my vehicle kept rolling.I called the ford Dealership after reading about a recall on shift cables For 2013 Ford escapes and was told my vehicle didn’t fall under the recall. I had it repaired elsewhere. In July 2022 I had the same issue (attempted to put vehicle in park and it was still in drive) contacted Ford and was told the same thing and had it repaired elsewhere since the price quotes elsewhere was about 300 less that what Ford quoted me but not even a week after having my vehicle repaired I get a letter in the mail confirming that my vehicle does fall under the recall. I have paid almost 1,000 out of pocket to repair this issue because Ford lied to me.

On 7/20/22 11:50pm I was driving on the highway about 45 miles per hour when without warning or indication my hood flew open and slammed against the windshield causing me to lose sight of anything in front of me. Because I was not traveling at such a high rate of speed I did not strike any vehicle in front of me and avoided hitting concrete barriers but several vehicles behind me nearly struck me because the incident took place on a curve and I was in a blind spot. This could have turned out very bad for myself and other, I was TERRIFIED. It was late and dark and have to carefully shift through three lanes on the highway to get myself into a safe spot off the side of the road. This incident has not been confirmed to my knowledge by any dealer, nor has the component been inspected by anyone as of yet. I will say as soon I had the vehicle towed and secured, I attempted t contact my insurance with no luck during the midnight hour. I did a GOGGLE research and found that this incident has happened to several Ford vehicles over the past years as far back as 10 years to current date and I'm confused as to why this was not a safety recall issue. I could have been seriously injured and died.

For the time I have owned this Ford Escape (4.5 years) the coolant has been leaking since I drove it off the lot. They could not find any leaks and just topped with coolant until the warranty expired. I have had numerous repairs done to my car and as of 06/18/2022 the coolant leaks is so bad I’m having to fill it up with antifreeze twice per day. It’s leaking from the driver side but they can never tell me exactly where. I’ve contacted Ford directly about this to be told my Vin number does not fall under the engine coolant recall, however it’s the same engine size etc. the check engine light has came on for 4.5 years but goes off so I don’t get the proper time to retrieve the code. It will sometimes loose power in the middle of roads and highways which is very dangerous. Please can you help me. My second issue is with my rear axle drive train, I currently have 127k miles on my vehicle took it in to a Ford dealership for diagnostic and repair I was informed that the rear axle needed replacing, they replaced it , however the problem persisted I was then told by the Ford mechanic that the axle assembly needed to be replaced. I have 2 issues 1.) my car is leaking coolant not sure from where. The leak is getting worse. I have coolant in my car, it was parked in the garage I made it a block from my house and my car shut down. Said it was overheating, don’t even know how it coul have been that hot. The car was not registering hot inside, also the temperature gauge not registering hot. I waited 1 1/2 hours came back and my car won’t go anywhere because I’m still getting the overheating message. 2.) my rear windshield wiper started making odd noises, then I kept finding my windshield wiper hanging straight down. It no longer wipes, but still makes noise. But it no longer works at all. A friend looked up this vehicle and saw there were common issues in complaints and told me to look to see if there were any recalls before I continued forward. But I don’t see anything pertaining to either issue.

Transmission developed a sudden delay when put into drive and jumped suddenly into gear and then shake between higher gears and then started running as if in neutral so that I could only coast it or pull the shifter into S mode where it would move forward very slowly for about a 1/4 mile at which time it quickly began running hot. It was only then that a warning came on that stated: ENGINE FAILURE SERVICE ENGINE SOON. Transmission mechanics refuse to internally assess or attempt any repairs due to "closed" system and are recommending a $4K complete replacement. My VIN number has no recalls related to this issue.

The ABS/Traction Control light comes on and a message flashes on the screen saying that 4 wheel drive is disabled and that hill assist is disabled. The vehicle will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed causing the driver to be put in harm's way if trying to enter traffic or go through an intersection. When hooked up to a scanner, it says that there is a bad ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor. We have replaced the "faulty" sensors several times and have also replaced all other parts that were recommended to fix the issue. We took the vehicle to a Ford dealer and they initially said that there was a recall to perform a flash of the computer to fix the issue. When they hooked up their machine to the vehicle, we were told that they were incorrect and that there was no recall for this issue and there was no update for the computer. This is an intermittent issue and we are unable to replicate the issue on demand. This has been an issue for over a year and it seems Ford does not have the answers to fix the issue.

The sensor for cooling system goes off for low coolant even though there is a full amount of coolant in the vehicle. Causes a bunch of codes to activate and throws vehicle into "limp" mode while saying the vehicle needs to be turned off immediately. Only some vehicles received recall notice per automotive service center, but others do not even though there is plenty of complaints online about the same issue. Having a vehicle go into "limp" mode while driving in traffic and/or on highway is extremely dangerous.

First our lights didn't work. We had them replaced last week and now it has burned out already. Several times the car stalls and will not go then mysteriously restarts itself. No warning lights come on when this happens, although the screen that is with the stereo system goes dim and then bright. We have had it at the shop where we bought the car and was told that it was fixed, but after having it back just over a day it did it again. on 10 July 2021, while driving vehicle at approx 50 mph, I was in the S-Drive and placed it into Drive, however, my display still showed me in S-Drive. I did get home without incident, but was unable to get my vehicle into Park. After several attempts, gear shifter did slide into Park, only to realize that display still showed I was in S-Drive. I turned off vehicle, and attempted to re-start, only to find that since the vehicle was still in S-Drive, I am unable to restart. I have found that other 2013 Ford Escape Vehicles are dealing with this same problem and have identified this particular issue as a failure to the Shifter Cable Bushing, (19S16) that prevents gears to be shifted, that can cause a vehicle to roll since it is in gear and possibly injure someone. I feel this VIN should be covered in your recall, but have found out that since my Vehicle was made in May 2013, it was not covered, but clearly it is still a problem that Ford has identified within the 2013 year. I now have to tow vehicle to a Ford dealership and they advise they are 4-6 weeks out from making any repairs to my vehicle which is not under a recall advisory list. I must pay for all services. At this time, my vehicle is unusable.

2013 FORD ESCAPE ECOBOOST 1.6 MY VEHICLE STALLS AT LOW SPEEDS OR WHILE IDLING. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE VEHICLE IS WARM. IT NEVER HAPPENS FIRST THING IN THE MORNING ONLY AFTER I HAVE PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF MAYBE 30 MIN OR LESS OR WHILE IDLING. SOMETIMES THE RPM WOULD SHOOT UP TO 6 AND THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS THRUSTING FORWARD AFTER WHICH IT WOULD EITHER STALL IMMEDIATELY OR I AM ABLE TO KEEP DRIVING WITHOUT ISSUE. IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND LUCKILY THERE WAS A POLICE OFFICER PASSING AND HE WAS ABLE TO ESCORT ME TO A SIDE STREET WHILE THE VEHICLE STALLED A REAL TIMES TO GET THERE. BEFORE I PULL ON TO A ROAD AFTER STALLING I HAVE WITH TRAFFIC I HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STALL AGAIN BEFORE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY ON RAMP AFTER I HAD JUST REFUELED. ONCE THE VEHICLE PASSES THE STALLING ISSUE IT DRIVES WITHOUT ISSUE. I DRIVE 110 MILES FROM LAS VEGAS TO MESQUITE, NV EACH WEEK AND HAVE TO STOP AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE OFF & TURN IT RIGHT BACK SO THE COLD COMES BACK ON. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR I LIVE IN THE DESERT AND DRIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, NV 110 MILES ACROSS THE DESERT EACH WEEK. I DID TAKE IT INTO FORD AND THEY CHARGED ME $240.00 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE THE AC BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE & FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY STILL CHARGED ME. SYSTEM PRESSURE AT 30/160. ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO USED TO WORK FOR FORD TOLD ME FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, HAS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION. MY VEHICLE WAS GOING 45 MPH IN MOTION DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ABOUT 4 MILES DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR FLASHED THE "ENGINE OVERHEATING" SIGNED AND WITHIN 5 SECONDS THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AND STALL IN LIMP MODE. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY, AND WHERE I LIVE THERE ARE HIGHWAYS EVERY WHERE THAT TAKE ME WHERE I NEED TO BE. TOOK TO FORD DEALER A MILE OR SO DOWN THE ROAD, AND THEY TESTED IT FOR EVERYTHING AND THEY SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH NO WORK DONE, JUST CONDUCTED A ROAD TEST AFTER RESETTING THE CODES AND LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON. ABOUT 15 MILES LATER, THE CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN ON THE SAME HIGHWAY, GOING 45, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AGAIN. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALER NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THAT THE STANDPIPE IS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING THE OVERHEATING IN THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM. BUT, FIXING THIS PIECE DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS FIXED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2014, BY THE 13S12. AND YET, THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I DO HAVE THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE WITH THE 1.6L ENGINE THAT HAS FREQUENTLY DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM. DRIVING THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE DUE TO THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPING IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS, THE CAR STALLS AND CAN EASILY OVERHEAT. AS THE DEALER HAS ONLY SUGGESTED INSTALLING A NEW COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR (STANDPIPE) WITH NEW HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, WE SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT WORKED IN PREVIOUS 2013 FORD ESCAPES. HAVING THIS CAR ON THE ROAD IS A SAFETY HAZZARDS. WITH OVER 3 PAGES OF MY FORD ESCAPE ALONE WITH FACTORY RECALLS, THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD. ENGINE OVERHEATING. ON MAY 14, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 71102 MILES, MY VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS "OVERHEATING" DUE TO WATER PUMP FAILURE. THE WATER PUMP FAILED BECAUSE 2 OUT OF 4 BOLTS WERE NOT THERE. THIS RESULTED IN THE PULLEY BENDING AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES. IT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY WARNING OF SUCH A PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR (PURCHASED USED). I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AXLE REQUIRES REPLACING (CLICKING NOISE). RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT SEVERAL OTHER 2013 FORD ESCAPE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. FIRE HAZARD. I HEARD STRANGE VIBRATING SOUNDS INSIDE THE CABIN. FROM THE OUTSIDE I NOTICED A PIECE OF ALUMINUM TOUCHING THE GROUND. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD THAT BECOME COMPLETELY UNWRAPPED. THE FLIMSY HEAT SHIELD IS MADE OF FIBER GLASS INSULATION AND ALUMINUM FOIL. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS EXPOSED NOW TO THE FLOOR AND CAN START THE CARPET FIRE INSIDE THE CAR. THIS ISSUE WAS KNOWN IN 2014 AND CAR MAGAZINES REPORTED THEN THAT THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED BY FORD, BUT FORD DECIDED NOT TO ISSUE RECALL.

FIRST INCIDENT: AUGUST 3RD 2016 WHILE DRIVING 50MPH CAR DISPLAYED A ENGINE OVERHEATING WARNING MESSAGE AND SLOWED DOWN AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD. I TOOK THE CAR TO KEARNEY PERSON FORD 7303 CLAIREMONT MESA BLVD SAN DIEGO, CA 92111 THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF. SECOND INCIDENT: DRIVING TO WORK EARLIER THIS YEAR 2017 I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE THAT MY ENGINE COOLANT WAS LOW, AND TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE OF CRITICAL OVERHEATING, EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR A REGULAR MAINTENANCE CHECK, ONCE AGAIN AT KEARNY PERSON FORD. I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY ON A ROAD AT AROUND 30-40MPH BUT ACCELERATING WHEN THE MESSAGE POPPED UP. I REFILED THE COOLANT AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON. THIRD INCIDENT: THIS WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME. CRITICAL ENGINE OVERHEATING MESSAGE AND LOW COOLANT MESSAGE POPPED UP WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING UP HILL IN TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 20MPH ON THE I-5S AT THE IN CALIFORNIA GRAPEVINE. THE ENGINE NEARLY SHUT OFF AND LIMPED ON JUST A COUPLE CYLINDERS AS I TRIED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE WAS HOT. THE HOSE BEING REPLACED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET AND FOUND TO HAVE NO REASON FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT TO BE ON. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND WHILE IN PARK IT STALLED. I STATED IT BACK UP AND IT KEPT EXHIBITING THE SAME INABILITY TO EXCEL, I SEEMED TO HAVE LITTLE CON TROLL OF IT , IT STALLED AGAIN, STARTED AGAIN AND I PRESSED ON THE GAS UNTIL I WAS HOME THREE BLOCKS AWAY. IN BOTH CASES A PASSENGER HAD TO HOLD THE DOORS CLOSED ON THE INSIDE TO BE ABLE TO GET THEM TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT THEM FLYING OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. EACH DOOR COST OVER $300 TO REPAIR.

WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE FROM OF THE BOTTOM HEAT SHIELD ON MY CAR JUST DROPPED AND STARTED SCRAPPING ON THE PAVEMENT. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THE SHIELD WAS PRETTY SCRAPED UP. IT APPEARED THAT WHATEVER WAS SUPPOSE TO HOLD IT UP, WAS NOT THERE. I KNOW THAT I DID NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING OR HAVE ANYTHING HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF MY CAR. THAT AFTERNOON I BROUGHT IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN RUTHERFORD, NJ WHERE I WAS CHARGED $368.84 FOR REMOVE AND REPLACEMENT OF THE HEAT SHIELD. THIS ESCAPE IS GARAGE KEPT AND THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NO REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING.

MY CAR HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 12 RECALLS. IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE CAR TO WILSON FORD FOUR TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE GOING TO WORK. THE CAR STUTTERED, ACTING LIKE IT WASN'T GETTING ANY GAS AND WANTED TO STALL. I WAS AFRAID I WAS GOING TO GET HIT FROM BEHIND. THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 30-40 MILES AN HOUR. WILSON FORD SAID THEY REPLACED A MAP SENSOR. I DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED . WILSON'S TOLD ME THE SENSOR WAS BAD. THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THEY THEN SAID THEY HAD TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND FIX A FRACTURED WIRE. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR LAST THURSDAY. MY GRANDSON WAS A PASSENGER. THIS PROBLEM AGAIN OCCURRED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ALSO FORD COMPANY WITHOUT ANY SATISFACTION. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA ON SEPT 28 VIA TELEPHONE. I SPOKE WITH AMY AROUND 7PM. I GAVE HER ALL MY INFO. WE WERE CUT OFF BY HER LINE. I'M NOT SURE ALL INFO WAS RECORDED. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE WV STATE ATTORNEYS OFFICE. MY CAR IS STILL AT WILSON FORD. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM.

THE ATTENDANT WHO WENT TO GET IT SAID THE DOOR WAS OPEN SLIGHTLY WHEN HE GOT IN. SO I HAD TWO LATCHES BREAK WITHIN A MATTER OF HOURS, AND I STILL DON'T HAVE THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I CAME HOME AND SAW THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON SOME OF FORD'S OTHER MODELS. THIS IS CONCERNING BECAUSE IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THESE LATCHES BREAK FOR NO REASON AND AT RANDOM TIMES. I HAVE A YOUNG DAUGHTER AND NOW IT WILL BE IN THE BACK OF MY MIND WILL ANOTHER LATCH BREAK WHEN SHE IS IN THE VEHICLE, OR WILL MY WIFE OR I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. FORD HAS RECALLED LATCHES ON OTHER VEHICLES AND FROM THE PICTURES I HAVE SEEN LOOK ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE THE ONES THAT BROKE ON OURS.

I HAD TO FIND ROPE AND BUNGY CORDS TO TRY TO SECURE IT SHUT. I WAS TRANSPORTING MY GRANDCHILDREN AT THE TIME, ONE PRESCHOOLER AND ONE INFANT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER 2ND LATCH BROKE I TALKED WITH A FORD CAR SALESMAN WHO INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR LATCHES.HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON CERTAIN FORD VEHICLES.THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD! CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF DOOR SUDDENLY SWUNG OPEN WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU TURN A CORNER AND HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE BACK DOOR.

THE DEALER SAID THAT MY UNIT BY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE A CONCERN, IT HAPPEN TO MY UNIT AND THERE ARE A LOT OF FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES AFFECTED, IT COULD BE WORST, I ASK FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND WAS ON RECALL FOR SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES TYPES BUT NOT YET FOR THE FORD ESCAPE 2013. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP MY RECEIPT SO IF THIS DOES BECOME A RECALL I WILL BE REIMBURSED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CERTAIN SINCE IT HAD HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES IT WOULD ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL IT BECAME A RECALL ON THE FORD ESCAPE. I AM GRATEFUL THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THAT THE LATCH DIDN'T BRAKE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION BECOMING A SEVERE ENDANGERMENT FOR MYSELF, FAMILY AND OTHERS.

I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND I'VE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES AND I BELIEVE SOME ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THIS COMPANY; IT IS WORTH AN INSPECTION ANYWAY. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO WARN MY HUSBAND BEFORE THE DEFECTIVE FORD ESCAPE JACK BENT AND CRACKED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME DOWN HARD ON THE GROUND. MY HUSBAND'S HANDS WERE ALMOST PINNED BENEATH THE CAR AND I AM LIVID. THIS WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING TO US BOTH! HE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE FORD ESCAPE 2013 HAS BEEN NO PICNIC, WITH THE SEVERAL RECALLS SINCE 2012, ONE OCCURRING IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE PURCHASED WITH VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN 11/17/12. WE LOST THE CAR FOR ABOUT A MONTH, WHILE THEY KEPT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, UNTIL THE PARTS HAD ARRIVED THAT WERE NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS THE FINAL STRAW. WE ARE GOING TO TRADE IN THIS POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS VEHICLE, BEFORE SOMEONE IN OUR FAMILY DOES GET INJURED. IT HAS BEEN (SEEMINGLY) ONE RECALL AFTER ANOTHER, TOO.
