SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RING
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

Driving in Tucumcari New Mexico coming up on a green light that turned from green to yellow to red. I pressed the brake pedal instead of the brakes doing their job in slowing down to come to a stop. The pedal pushed against my pressure a did not allow me to stop or slow down in anyway. Upon this brake failure it made me run the red light an t bone another car in the intersection. This brake failure has cost me my only transportation to work, which is in Reno, Nevada. Now GM has never reached out to speak with me about getting the issue resolved before this accident. Dealership never reached out to me or informed me of any recalls prior to the accident or when I made the purchase in 2024. No warning lights no indicators or on my dash to inform of any problems
When at red lights, or in traffic, when you release the brake pedal to inch farther, and re-apply the brakes they go straight to the floor and you have to basically stand up on the brake pedal to finally stop. The truck slides and makes noises as it comes to stop. I was told these trucks in 2014 have a bad issue with the vacuum pump for the brakes.

Recall 19V-645 / N192268490 was performed on my 2014 Chevy Silverado, prior to me purchasing the vehicle a month ago. A computer adjustment was completed in 2019. The vehicle has brake problems, ie: vehicle will ease forward with brakes applied or while stopped. Upon re-applying brakes I have a HARD brake pedal. Dealer stated that recall was completed and I will have to pay to get vehicle fixed. The problem I am experiencing with this vehicle is the same problem that was addressed in the original recall. Computer adjustment did not fix the problem and a new vacuum pump should be installed on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local GM dealer on 15 September 2025. . If problem is not addressed properly, the vehicle brakes would/could cause an accident, at low speeds or move forward while vehicle is stopped. With vehicle in reverse, braking is harder than in forward causing potential accident.
Brake pedal gets hard and brakes become inoperative
When going at low speeds like through a parking lot when I apply my brakes they get rock hard and do not want to stop. I can get it stopped but just barely. When going at normal driving speed 30mph plus they are fine and stop fine. I almost pulled into a car in a parking lot because I almost couldn't stop due to my brakes failing. This happens every time I go at low speeds 25mph and less
The brake vacuum pump on the 2014-2018 chevy silverado has intermittent failures causing reduced brakes, which is a major safety issue. Gm has this listed under a "special coverage warrenty" instead of a recall and wont fix this because the warrenty ended 6/24 or 150k miles(mine onpy has 125k). Luckily I didn't have any traffic infront of me and the street light had just turned red and the cross traffic hadn't started to move yet. When I contacted gm about this I talked to 3 different representatives 2 were the initial points of contact, the first stated I would be reimbursed due to this being a safety issue, the second said the first was talking about a "general warrenty"...? The third was a supposed " supervisor who was obviously reading from a script and chose his words very carefully when telling me that because the speciap coverage warrenty was up GM wasn't going to do anything about this which is a leagal way of saying their are ok with this known issue on their trucks out in the world. Probably because it'll be cheaper to have their lawyers fight a lawsuit than to pay for the parts and labor to have this known safety issue fixed.
The brakes feel squishy and it is difficult to stop at low speeds. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. Safety being put at risk by not being able to stop in time possibly causing crash. The truck was taken to a mechanic who found a code stating low vacuum pressure on brake booster but they could not find a leak anywhere and cleared the code. It is unknown if the component has been inspected by the manufacturer. Yes there has been a warning light before. It is unknown when exactly this problem started.
Service brake assist activated. Vacuum pump failure, there is no vacuum going to the brake booster from the vacuum pump mounted on the front of the engine block driven by belt pulley.Has code co299-00 brake booster large vacuum leak detected. Purchased the vehicle yesterday, I had it inspected and the service tech informed me the brake booster was not performing correctly. He said instead of going down as a brake the brake is snapped back to where it is not stopping and it can go completely out to where it will not stop. He informed me of a recall on the brake booster. The local GM Dealer checked for the recall and stated the recall had been fulfilled by the previous owner. There's still a problem with the brake booster.
Was driving through the cities, when all of a sudden the brakes in my vehicle were suddenly not working. Being in heavy traffic doing 40mph, I veered off to the side of the road avoiding an accident. I exited the vehicle and inspected underneath for any broken/leaky brake lines. I then checked to see that I still had brake fluid. Everything seemed to be fine. There was no warning or indication with sound that the brakes were out or going bad. After entering the vehicle again the "service brakes" warning popped up on the dash. I called and had the vehicle taken to a shop. The auto shop stated that the vacuum pump was not working and also recommended to replace the brake booster pipe with the pressure switch.
Trailer Brake driver display notification and alert tone frequently activated with no apparent cause with or without a trailer connected. Alert is so repetitive it becomes an audible and visual distraction to the driver. Manufacturer design restricted code readers at Auto Zone or O’Reilly’s from identifying this problem and force owners to take vehicles to GM shops to identify the cause. The alerts and cause should be repaired under recall at no expense to the owner. I also have video to support.
My brakes do not compress all the way at low RPMs and prevent me from being able to stop. Consistent with other vehicles we called for the same issue on the same year but for some reason my VIN doesn't come up in the recall
I was driving with my kids in the truck because i just did school pick up i was aproaching a four way interection when i tried to stop and my break pedal was super stiff and found myself panicked i couldnt stop it almost caused an accident with a tractor trailer truck. I went up and over the curb into vacant parking lot in order to stop.
Brakes won’t work at low speeds, says online it was a recall at one point just don’t know if my VIN got missed
I have been receiving a service warning for the "Trailer Brake System" for years and found a video online telling me to report it due to this being a GM issue.
I started up and was backing out of my driveway. When I tried to slow the brakes felt weird shuddered a lot and then I had difficulty stopping. Service brake assist popped up on my screen. I slowly pulled into the driveway and when I tried to stop the truck shuddered and had a hard time stopping.
About 2 years after purchased (~2016), I was driving slowly in a parking lot and turned into a parking space. The brake pedal became very hard to press and the truck would not stop. I had to push extremely hard to get it to stop. I backed up and experienced the same problem. I put it in park, then the problem went away. There were no warning lights or indicators of a problem. I got a notice for a recall and took it into the dealer for repair in 2019. From 2019 through 2022, I have had 4 to 5 more incidents of the same problem. It seems to repeat when I slow down to a slow crawl with a trailer for added weight. I push the brakes while crawling and then the brake pedal gets hard to push and I loose brakes. Extremely dangerous, especially with added weight on a slight decline. I have found multiple instances with other customers reporting the same problem. Currently in contact with Chevy to resolve. I have reported the problem twice to the dealer and once to the "Customer Satisfaction" hotline. Chevy has confirmed that a recall was performed on the vehicle in 2019, but they cannot provide any information that the recall work fixed the problem or if they even tested that the fix was performed properly. Furthermore, they only report a "reprogramming" was done. No other work reported by Chevy, though, there are comments from other customers that a vacuum pump recall exists. They have yet to resolve the problem.
Brake pedal gets hard under low speeds. Causes a stopping hazzard in parking lots and drive thrust. This year and model has been recalled for this, but my vin is not coming up as a recall. I worry when I back my boat in the water that my truck wont stop.
The warning "Service the Trailer Brake System" continues to randomly alarm. This was "fixed" multiple times. The fix takes about 5 minutes under the dash and then work for a few months to a year before it alarms again. It was "fixed" once during the warranty but it continues to be a problem. This is similar to the reoccurring problems that were recalled on the 2022 Chevrolet Silverados.
Breaks stop working at slow speed. Vacuum pump fails

While approaching stoplight stepped on brakes and had zero braking power. Coasted to service company they confirmed no braking power. They determined vacuum was bad and replaced

Brake vacuum pump is failing creating an unsafe condition while braking when the vehicle is in a low RPM range. I had a close call while backing down a sloping driveway at my home in which it was almost impossible to stop the vehicle. The pedal provided a lot of resistance but the vehicles braking power was greatly reduced. Ultimately I had to use all my strength on the pedal for the vehicle to stop. After continual issues, I am in the process of getting the vehicle repaired. Thank goodness this didn’t occur while backing a boat into the water. I have not been able to use a boat for fear of ending up in the lake.
Brakes seem to sputter/skip when applying when traveling above 40 mph. I had an inspection done with Brake Masters. They inspected brake pads, rotors and performed a road test. They stated Brakes pads and rotors were still good about another year left. They did say brakes sputtered at about 40 mph and over. They thought it could be issue with brake vacuum system Thanks

the brakes have a hard pedal with no brakes at low speed . In reverse have to apply lots of pressure to brake pedal, and this does not always work. I read there is a recall. I want to get repaired before an accident occurs. This is on going, not just the date below.
I believe my 2014 silverado has a recall for the vacuum brake pump. I just purchased the truck a month ago And I noticed when I take off in drive or reverse and hit the brake pedal it doesn’t want to move and becomes stiff. It has almost caused me to have 2 accidents now. After doing research and looking things up I have come to know there as a recall on these trucks for the vacuum brake pump and I don’t think this truck has ever been fixed for it. I would like to get this fixed before it causes an accident.
When stopping at slow speeds in stop and go traffic my abs would kick on and the power breaks would not work and I would need to press the break pedal very hard to stop. Only seems to happen in stop and go traffic at slow speeds but it's super scarey.
Truck has rough breaking at low speeds. It’s due to the break pump recall on this make, year and model. The break pump also makes a clicking sound when engine is running. Common in these trucks.
My vehicle lost the ability to apply brakes or slow down, the vehicle had a rock hard peddle at low speed. There was no illuminated light on the dashboard no warning! I barely avoided a collision and scraped my truck driving off the road to try and stop it. The issue is worst at lower RPM!

At low speed the power brakes no longer work. The brake pedal has to be pushed to the floor in order to stop. The pedal does not return to its original position and remains soft/spongy and pushed in. Almost caused an accident when this was first discovered.

WHEN I TRY TO USE MY BRAKES THEY FEEL LIKE THERE'S NO PRESSURE AND I HAVE TO PUMP BRAKES REPEATEDLY TO STOP. ALSO FEEL A LITTLE VIBRATION. THIS DOES HAPPEN EVERY TIME. MOSTLY WHEN I'M TRYING TO SLOW DOWN TO PARK IT OR STOP AT A LIGHT.
MY VEHICLE VIN DOES NOT SEEM LISTED FOR RECALL GM NO. N192268490 OR WAS SERVICED. YET, I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE INTERMITTENT LOSS OF BRAKING POWER, ESPECIALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS SUCH AS AFTER SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE FOR PARKING, OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. MUCH MORE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO STOP AS IF LOSS OF POWER RESULTING IN MANUAL-ONLY BRAKING. THIS SEEMS TO GO AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. PRIOR TO RECALL, THE ISSUE PREVIOUSLY RESULTED IN $3000 DAMAGE TO ANOTHER FAMILY VEHICLE PARKED ON OUR PRIVATE PROPERTY.

THE VACUUM PUMP FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKING ASSISTANCE. MUSHY AND HARD PEDDLE. VERY NOTICEABLE AT LOW SPEEDS. MINE WENT OUT WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CAUSING EXCESSIVE SPEED ON THE OFF RAMP AND INABILITY TO SAFELY BRAKE. APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A RECALL FOR MY YEAR VEHICLE. AFTER CALLING THE DEALER I WAS TOLD M VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL.
BRAKE POWER FAILURE, WHERE AS THE BRAKE BECAME STIFF AND IT WAS HARD TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE TRUCK WAS MOVING LESS THEN 10MPH AND HAD A UTILITY TRAILER ON THE HITCH. THE TRUCK WAS ON RESIDENTIAL ROAD. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE FOR A TOTAL OF THREE FAILURES UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. MOVING UNDER 10 MPH ON SURFACE STREETS AND HAVING A CAMPER TRAILER ON THE HITCH OF THE TRUCK.
VEHICLE HAS TROUBLE BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS, PEDAL BECOMES VERY STIFF AND ALMOST CAUSES A COLLISION, SEEMS TO BE THE VACUUM OR BRAKE BOOSTER
IN AUGUST TRUCK WAS SERVICED FOR BRAKE ASSIST RECALL. WITHIN A WEEK I HAD SMALL SIGNS OF BRAKE ISSUES RETURNING ( BOOSTER NOISE, INTERMITTENT HARD PEDAL). ITS NOW THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST AND I HAVE A ROCK SOLID BREAK PEDAL MAKING TRUCK NOT SAFE TO DRIVE..TO PUT MY TRUCK BACK ON ROAD IM RESPONSIBLE FOR $600 DOLLAR REPAIR.
ALREADY HAD THE MODULE UPDATE AND BRAKES ARE STILL SHUTTERING AND LOSING PRESSURE AT LOW SPEEDS. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND GETS SUPER HARD. THIS SAME THING WAS HAPPENING BEFORE THE MODULE UPDATE RECALL WAY LAST YEAR.
WHILE BACKING THE CAMPER INTO A CAMP SITE WITH A SLIGHT UPGRADE, WHEN I MOVING FORWARD TO STRAIGHTEN THE TRUCK, THE BRAK PEDAL BECAME HARD TO PUSH DOWN. EACH TIME I PRESSED THE BRAKES, IT BECAME HARDER TO PRESS, AND I FELT A PULSING SENSATION PUSHING BACK UP ON THE PEDAL. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, IT BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH DOWN ON THE PEDAL. I WAS MOVING UNDER 1 MPH AT THE TIME WITH NOTHING IN MY WAY. AFTER BACKING UP AGAIN, I TRIED IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THIS TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER PREVIOUSLY FOR THE RECALL LISTED FOR BRAKING BOOSTER THAT REQUIRED RECALIBRATING THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE. I BELIEVE THE SERVICE EITHER DIDN'T WORK, OR IT CREATED A NEW PROBLEM. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR, WARM, AND EVERYTHING WAS DRY. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER BRAKING PROBLEMS.
RECALL NUMBER N192217410 AND LOCAL DEALER WONT SERVICE. SAYING IT MUST BE TAKEN TO CANADA TO BE SERVICED. SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST ERROR ON DIC. WHY SEND RECALL NOTICE IF COUNTRY OF USE IS NOT AUTHORIZING THE RECALL. IS IT ONLY DANGEROUS IN CERTAIN COUNTRIES?
WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AND IN DRIVE AT LOW SPEEDS, BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE PROPERLY. AT FIRST I WAS TRYING TO STOP WHILE IN REVERSE TO GO FORWARD. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE EXTREMELY HARD TO VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. WHEN I WENT FORWARD, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY AND WERE EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS DOWN TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I STOPPED DRIVING AT THAT POINT BECAUSE I WAS IN A TIGHT PARKING LOT AND DIDNT FEEL I COULD SLOW QUICK ENOUGH TO NOT RUN INTO OTHER VEHICLES.

I PULLED INTO A DRIVE THRU TRAVELING STRAIGHT AHEAD. WHEN I TRIED TO BRAKE I HEARD AN ODD CLICKING NOISE AND HAD A VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL. THE NOISE I FOUND OUT LATER WAS THE ABS SYSTEM DOING IT'S JOB BECAUSE OF MY HARD BRAKING. I DID GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE HARD BRAKE CONTINUED AS I MOVED THROUGH THE DRIVE THRU LINE. ONCE I PULLED OUT ON TO THE ROAD THE AND TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN THEY APPEARED TO WORK PROPERLY. I PULLED INTO AN OPEN LOT AND TRIED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES AT LOW SPEED AND THE HARD BRAKE CONDITION CONTINUED. I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM PRIOR TO THIS DATE - NO INCREASED PRESSURE, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOTHING. AFTER THIS DATE I NOTICED MY BRAKES SKIPPING WHILE IN REVERSE ON AN INCLINE. I LIVE AT THE TOP OF A HILL AND MY DRIVEWAY IS ALSO A HILL, SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. HOWEVER, I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A SLIGHTLY INCLINED PARKING SPOT AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT AND PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE TRUCK WAS STILL NOT STOPPING. I TOOK MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT GET TO IT THAT DAY, BUT THAT I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND BRING IT BACK FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. THE VACUUM PUMP HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE, PRODUCING NO VACUUM PRESSURE TO THE BREAK ASSIST. THE RECALL SUGGESTING THE RECALIBRATION OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL HAD BEEN COMPLETED MONTHS PRIOR. THIS RESULTED IN SIMILAR SYMPTOMS, VIBRATION IN THE BREAK AND A HARD BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE IT COMPLETELY FAILED, THE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF AND STOPPING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THE ODD THING IS ONCE I STOPPED AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO BUILD PRESSURE AGAIN AND WAS FINE? AFTER A LITTLE INVESTIGATION WITH THE VEHICLE I CAN RECREATE THE ISSUE IF I PUMP THE BRAKES 4 TO 5 TIMES IN QUICK SUCCESION WHICH RESULTS AGAIN IN A ROCK HARD PEDAL AND LOSS OF BRAKING. ONCE I REV THE ENGINE IN NEUTRAL I RESTORE PRESSURE BACK TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HAVE NO ISSUES. ABS SENSATION IN THE PEDAL CAN BE FELT ONCE PUSHING THE PEDAL HARDER UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPS. NOW WHEN I TRY TO STOP THE BRAKES WILL ONLY PUSH DOWN ABOUT AN INCH THEN ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH DOWN TO STOP. FROM WHAT I READ ONLINE THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY THE VACUUM PUMP.

BRAKES ENGAGED AND LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING DURING NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS IN JULY 2018.TOWED TO DEALERSHIP & PROBLEM WAS THE BRAKING MODULE. HOWEVER, 6 MONTHS LATER AND THE BRAKES ENGAGED AND LOCK UP AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP & THIS TIME THEY DETERMINED THE BOOSTER VALVE CONTROLLING THE BRAKE FLUID WAS THE ISSUE. 2 DAYS LATER, THE BRAKE ASSIST ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AGAIN. HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE ASSIST BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET IT TO RELEASE. THESE INSTANCES ARE OCCURRING WHILE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE BARE & TEMPS ARE ABOVE FREEZING. THIS IS DANGEROUS SINCE BRAKES LOCK UP WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TRAVELING ANYWHERE FROM 30 MPH TO 50 MPH.
WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKES ACT LIKE LOSS OF POWER BRAKE AND HAVE AT LEAST 5 TIMES ALMOST HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE COULDN'T STOP. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL GM DEALER AND HAD IT REPAIRED AND IT WAS THE VACUUM PUMP, AND AFTER FINDING OUT THE PROBLEM I FOUND ON THE WEB THAT THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS ON 2014-2018 GM TRUCKS AND WAS ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED, ESPECIALLY AFTER IT COST ME OVER $800. I HAVE AROUND 72,000 MILES AND LOOKING ON THE WEB QUITE A FEW HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AS EARLY AS 10,000-30,000 BUT WAS TAKEN CARE OF UNDER WARRANTY AND PROBABLY WEREN'T REPORTED

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. STILLWATER MOTORS (5900 STILLWATER BLVD NORTH, STILLWATER, MN) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER TWICE IN 24 MONTHS. BOTH TIMES THE SITUATION WAS THE SAME, I WAS DRIVING AS USUAL AND IN NORMAL TRAFFIC WHEN I NEEDED TO BRAKE BUT MY PEDAL WAS HARD AS A ROCK AND I HAD TO USE BOTH FEET TO BRAKE.

IT'S HAPPENED ABOUT 20 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR AND IT IS SO SPORADIC AND UNEXPECTED THAT IT SCARES YOU TO DEATH WHEN IT DOES. IT ALSO HAPPENS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRUCK IS SLOWLY CREEPING DOWN A LIGHT GRADE.
AT LOW SPEEDS, THE BREAKS ON MY TRUCK DO NOT WORK. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW VACUUM PUMP. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THERE IS CURRENTLY AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE ISSUE. I HAVE ALMOST COLLIDED WITH OBJECTS AND OTHER CARS MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENIG FOR CLOSE TO A YEAR AND A HALF NOW.

BRAKE VACUUM PUMP HAS DETERIORATED CAUSING INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT AND LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES AT SLOWER SPEEDS. VACUUM PUMP WAS REPLACED ON JANUARY 18, 2019, BUT WAS NOT COVERED BY A RECALL DESPITE NUMEROUS CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I STARTED TO PUSH MY BRAKE PEDAL AND I NOTICED IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD. I GOT BACK IN THE TRUCK AND STARTED IT UP AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. A FEW MINUTES LATER MY ABS LIGHT AND STABLE TRAC LIGHT CAME ON. WE GOT THE TRUCK TO MY BUDDY SHOP AND HE WHEN ONLINE TRYING TO FIND A REPLACEMENT VACUUM PUMP AND SEEN ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP. I CALLED CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ASK THEM WHAT WE COULD DO. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE TRUCK IN AND I COULD PAY FULL PRICE TO HAVE EVERYTHING FIXED AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A RIDE TO PICK UP A RENTAL CAR THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 SILVERADO 1500 TRUCK AT SLOW SPEEDS (UNDER 20 MPH), IN THREE DIFFERENT PARKING LOTS WITH PEDESTRIANS PRESENT, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY LEVEL OF FOOT PRESSURE. THESE FAILURES HAPPENED OVER A 30-MINUTE SPAN. THE TRUCK KEPT MOVING FORWARD EVEN THOUGH I WAS PULLING ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO HELP WITH DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH AS MUCH FORCE AS I COULD. I HAD TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL TO HELP STOP THE VEHICLE. UPON REVIEWING INTERNET BLOGS OF THIS ISSUE I FOUND OTHERS HERE ON NHTSA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALSO FOUND GM/CHEVY HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS PUBLISHED FOR THIS ISSUE: PIT5361D & PIT5362B. WHAT FAILED WAS THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM PUMP/BOOSTER WHICH PROVIDES THE VACUUM FOR THE BRAKES TO FUNCTION. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS BRAKE VACUUM PUMP/BOOSTER REPAIR COST ME $1,100.00 AS THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WAS A RECALL AT THIS POINT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WITH SO MANY OTHERS AFFECTED, MYSELF INCLUDED, WITH THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT IT IS NOT YET A FULL RECALL ITEM. FACT IS, YOU CANNOT DRIVE A VEHICLE WITHOUT WORKING BRAKES, PERIOD. IT IS NOT A SITUATION SUCH AS BRAKE PADS BEING WORN (THEY ARE NOT), IT IS THE CORE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM THAT FAILED AND SHOULD BE UNDER A MAJOR RECALL. HERE ARE THE PARTS THAT WERE REPAIRED/REPLACED: BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, VACUUM PUMP BELT, A/C BELT, AND PIPE FROM PUMP TO THE BOOSTER. AFTER EACH INCIDENT AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE THE SAME HARD PEDAL PREVENTED THE BRAKES FROM WORKING CORRECTLY GOING FORWARD. AFTER STOPPING, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RE STARTING THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. I FOUND A BULLETIN ONLINE THAT GENERAL MOTORS PUT OUT WHERE A MECHANIC INSPECTION SHOULD BE PERFORMED TO CHECK IF ANY OIL WAS IN THE BRAKE VACUUM LINE LEADING INTO THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER WITH THE OIL STEMMING FROM THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. UPON INSPECTION THERE WAS NO OIL FOUND AND MY MECHANIC PERFORMED AN OVERNIGHT PRESSURE TEST ON THE VACUUM PUMP ITSELF AND THE FOLLOWING DAY FOUND THERE WAS NO VACUUM LEAK DETECTED. THIS TEST WAS PERFORMED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AFTER MY SECOND INCIDENT. MY 3RD INCIDENT HAPPENED THIS PAST FRIDAY 12/21/2018. MY TRUCK DID NOT STOP THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND I WOUND UP HAVING MY TRUCK DRIVE INTO A CHAIN LINK FENCE AS MY BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN GOT REALLY HARD AND MY BRAKES FAILED. I AM VERY CONCERNED NOW THAT THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW THAT DEVELOPED FROM A CASE OF POOR QUALITY MATERIALS USED IN THE MAKING OF THE PARTS OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY TRUCK IS RARELY USED IN A ROUGH OR CARELESS MANNER, RARELY PERFORMS TOWING AND HAS 88,000 MILES ON IT. A RECALL IS WAY OVERDUE REGARDING THE BRAKING SITUATION.

IT'S HAPPENED IN BOTH PARKING LOTS, MY DRIVEWAY, AND OFF RAMPS FROM A HIGHWAY.

HAROLD CHEVROLET (DEALER AND SERVICE) REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE BOOSTER, VACUUM PUMP AND HOSE BECAUSE THE VACUUM PUMP LEAKED INTERNALLY INTO BRAKE BOOSTER. I USE THIS TRUCK TO BACK MY BOAT INTO THE LAKE SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED, I DO NOT THINK I COULD HAVE SURVIVED WITH MY AGE (73) AND DISABILITY (NEUROPATHY OF FEET AND LEGS.)THIS REALLY STRESSES ME.
UNDER LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL GETS VERY HARD AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE EXPECTED OR TYPICAL STOPPING POWER. THE PROBLEM IS EXACERBATED WHEN TOWING AND ON HILLS. A SERVICE BULLETIN HAS BEEN POSTED BY GM (PIT5361B) DETAILING THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY POOR VACUUM SUPPLIED TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER AT LOW ENGINE SPEEDS. FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM ON AN INCLINE WHILE TOWING A BOAT, THE TRUCK COULD NOT STOP THE SETUP WITHIN A FEW FEET EVEN AT WELL LESS THAN 5 MPH. CONTINUES WHEN BACKING DOWN THE BOAT RAMP AND EVEN STOPPING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.
WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON ANY STREET SURFACE AND I APPLY THE BREAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD, CAUSING INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT AND LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES. LOCAL DEALERSHIP DETERMINED IT WAS THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP.
APPLYING THE BRAKES REQUIRES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED A DAMAGED/FAULTY VACUUM PUMP AS THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER DRIVER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON A CITY STREET IN WILLIAMSBURG, VA AT A RED LIGHT.
WHEN TRAFFIC IS STOP AND GO I LOSE THE POWER BREAKS AND HAVE TO PUSE EXTRA HARD TO STOP TRUCK
MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION I STARTED HEARING A LOUD NOISE AS I WAS COMING TO YIELD BECAUSE OF SLOW TRAFFIC IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO BRAKE I WAS HAVING DIFFICULT TIME BRAKING I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN FOR IT TO COME TO A VERY SLOW AND LONG DISTANT STOP I HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO GET MY TRUCK TOWED IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME MY WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER IT SO I HAD TO PAY IT ENDED BEING A BRAKE HOSE THAT BUSTED I PAYED ABOUT $850 AND I HAVE THE RECEIPT FOR IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP I FELT VERY SCARED THIS SITUATION IS VERY DANGEROUS HAD TO GET A RENTAL THAT I PAYED FOR WHILE I WAITED FOR MY TRUCK TO GET REPAIRED .
I WAS TRAVELLING AT ROUGHLY 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN WE ENCOUNTERED AND UNEXPECTED ROAD CREW I APPLIED MY BRAKES FIRMLY AND SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 40MPH AND CHANGED LANES TO AVOID THE HAZARD.. ALMOST INSTANTLY I WAS CUTOFF AT THE SLOWER SPEED AND NEEDED TO APPLY MY BRAKES AGAIN, THIS TIME THE PEDAL WAS FIRM AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT REACT. I AVOIDED THE COLLISION BY SWERVING INTO THE NEXT LANE. THE PEDAL HAD NO AFFECT ON STOPPING THE VEHICLE IN THIS SITUATION.
AT 61K MILES, WHEN BACKING UP SLOWLY, GENERALLY INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE BRAKES FREEZE. ONLY AFTER PUMPING THEM OR PUTTING THE TRUCK IN PARK, DO THE BRAKES COMPRESS AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEASE 4 TIMES IN THE PASSED 2 WEEKS.
BRAKES ARE FAILING AT LOW SPEEDS. FROM OTHER REPORTS IT SEEMS TO BE THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, I NEARLY REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND ONLY THE CURB ACROSS THE STREET STOPPED THE VEHICLE.
THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY IN TRAFFIC RAMAPO VALLEY ROAD (AKA RT 202) IN OAKLAND NJ WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, I TRIED TWICE BEFORE STEPPING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AT THE SAME TIME I STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE BUT MY VEHICLE HAS A DENT IN THE FRONT BUMPER FROM THE TOW HITCH ON THE CAR I HIT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED AT THE SCENE. THE POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED AND MOVED MY TRUCK CONFIRMING THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILURE. THE POLICE OFFICER MOVED MY TRUCK TO A DRIVEWAY ACROSS THE ROAD AND A MESSAGE REGARDING A BRAKE ASSIST FAILURE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. NO INDICATION WAS DISPLAYED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE OFFICER DECLARED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND HAD IT TOWED AND IMPOUNDED. AFTER GETTING A VEHICLE RELEASE MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN LITTLE FALLS NJ WHERE THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR CONFIRMED THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILED. I WAS CONTACTED BY GM AND GAVE THEM INFORMATION REGARDING THE ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR INFORMED ME GM INVESTIGATORS WERE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT THE FAILURE. I FOUND A GM SERVICE BULLETIN DATED JUNE 2016, BULLETIN NUMBER PIT5361B DESCRIBING THIS FAILURE. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET GM TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES SINCE THE TRUCK IS LESS THAN 5 YEAR OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 100000 MILE ON IT, IT HAS ABOUT 45000 MILES ON IT. THIS PART IS NOT A PART THAT IS EXPECTED TO WEAR OF INSPECTED DURING NORMAL MAINTENANCE.

THANKFULLY A COLLISION DID NOT OCCUR AND THERE WAS NO HARM TO ANYONE.
BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES AFTER A SERIES OF BRAKE APPLICATIONS AT LOW SPEED. BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY FIRM AND PULSATES, STOPPING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT. PEDAL FEEL RETURNS TO NORMAL AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE BUT THE ISSUE RETURNS AFTER A SERIES OF BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATIONS IN A SHORT TIME SPAN. FIRST NOTICED IN A PARKING LOT AS PULLING INTO A SPACE, BUT PROBLEM REPEATED ON CITY STREETS AS PULLING UP TO STOP LIGHTS OR IN CITY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.

ANY TIME, WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE BRAKES TURN ROCK HARD WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO, THE BRAKES WOULD ONLY TURN HARD WHEN I WAS GOING 20MPH OR SLOWER. NOW IT'S EVERYTIME I TRY TO BRAKE WHILE DRIVING. EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I AM STATIONARY. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WHILE I WAS COMING TO A STOP LIGHT. IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD IN ME TO STOP MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE BRAKES. MY HUSBAND, WHO IS A MECHANIC, LOOKED AT MY BRAKE PADS AND THEY ARE FINE. I KEEP HAVING THE SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST BADGE POP UP ON MY DASH WHEN I HAVE TROUBLE BRAKING. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS TO FIX THE VACUUM PUMP, BRAKE BOOSTER, OR WHATEVER MAYBE CAUSING THE ISSUE. THIS HAPPENS NOW EVERYTIME I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, COUNTRY ROAD, MY DRIVEWAY, OR TURNING. I HAVE COMPLETELY STOPPED DRIVING MY TRUCK UNTIL THE ISSUE IS FIXED, DUE TO IT BEING A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. I HAVE HORSES SO I USE MY TRUCK ON A DAILY OCCURRENCE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR NEEDS. THE PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND A RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
DROVE 35 MILES. STOPPED OK. BACKED UP ABOUT 5 MPH. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD ONLY PUSH DOWN ABOUT ONE QUARTER INCH WITH NO BRAKING ACTION. PRESSED AS HARD AS POSSIBLE AND GOT SLIGHT BRAKING. WE HAD IT REPAIRED AT A SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A VACUUM PUMP AND A SENSOR THAT HAD GONE BAD.
DRIVING FROM OHIO TO FLORIDA ON AUGUST 4, 2018. THE LAST 200-300 MILES THE BRAKES WORKED FINE DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. WHEN I WOULD GET IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC - STOP AT A LIGHT, GOING THROUGH A DRIVE-THRU, GAS STATION STOP, ETC. - THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BE VERY HARD TO PUSH, HAD TO USE ALL MY STRENGTH TO STOP VEHICLE AND IT WOULD STILL SLIGHTLY ROLL. HAD TO CONTACT CHEVY DEALER IN KISSIMEE, FLORIDA TO CHECK OUT PROBLEM AND THEY DIAGNOSED BRAKE BOOSTER AND VACUUM PUMP FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
AFTER DRIVING FOR LONG PERIODS, THE POWER BRAKES BECOME INOPERATIVE WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY. THIS FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO. I WAS PUZZLED. IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL NOW. IT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
BOUGHT MY 2014 SILVERADO AND AROUND 20,000 MILES IT SEEMS LIKE THE BRAKES GOT HARD AND DIDN'T WANTED TO STOP. TURNED IT OFF AND AFTER A LITTLE BIT TURN IT ON AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING GOOD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT WORKET GOOD FOR A LONG TIME AND DID IT AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME AT THE DEALER THAT WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED (HAD OVER 36K) SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM NEITHER. LAST WEEK DID IT AGAIN NOW IT HAS 60K MILES READING HERE AND THERE NOTICE THAT THERE'S A LOT OF TRUCKS AROUND THE SAME YEAR AND ALL POINT TO THE VACUUM PUMP. IT DOES THIS WHEN IS SLOW RUNNING AND AFTER A GOOD TIME RUNNING LIKE ON A TRIP OR SO. IM AFRAID OF INSTALLING THE PUMP AND STILL THE SAME. CAUSE ONLY DOES IT IN RARE OCASIONS

WHEN I AM BRAKING FREQUENTLY AT LOWER SPEEDS (EXAMPLE: IN LINE AT A DRIVE THRU) MY BRAKES GET HARDER AND HARDER TO PRESS UNTIL EVENTUALLY I CANNOT PRESS THEM AT ALL. I HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND CRANK IT AGAIN. ONLY THEN DOES IT WORK. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE COMES RIGHT BACK. APPARENTLY, MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING IT. THIS COULD BE DEADLY. OTHERS HAVE GOTTEN INTO ACCIDENTS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS. THERE IS EVEN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. TSB #PIT5361B
LOSS OF BRAKING AT LOW SPEED. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY HARD AND VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP DUE TO FAULTY VACUUM PUMP. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS AND GM HAS EVEN REPLACED THE ORIGINAL PART NUMBER WITH A NEW UPDATED UNIT BUT HAS NOT RECALLED THE OLD FAULTY ONES. IF THIS WASN'T A FAULTY PART THEN WHY REPLACE IT WITH AN "UPDATED" ONE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I FEEL GM NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS BADLY INJURED OR KILLED.

WHILE TRAVELLING AT 50 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO TURN INTO A STORE PARKING LOT. THE TRUCK SLOWED SOME, THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO DEPRESS WITH THE TRUCK STILL ROLLING. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR (NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OF COURSE) COST OF $1400. GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SHOWED ME A "BULLETIN" THEY RECEIVED TELLING THEM PROBABLE CAUSES AND PART NUMBERS. I CALLED GM. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE JUST WEREN'T ENOUGH REPORTED PROBLEMS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL YET. IF YOU GOOGLE THE BRAKE PROBLEM THERE ARE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. SOME WITH NARROWLY MISSED ACCIDENTS. I HAD NO TYPE OF WARNING THAT THERE MIGHT A PROBLEM. GM SAID "SORRY, CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS IN CASE A SAFETY RECALL COMES DOWN." I TOLD GM I HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE A NUMBER OF TRAGIC ACCIDENTS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. OH, AND THE $1400 REPAIR BILL GETS ME THE SAME CRAPPY PARTS THAT FAILED!

THIS BRAKE ISSUE IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. WITH MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY GM HASN'T MADE THIS A RECALL YET. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION MY BRAKES HAVE STIFFENED UP AND STOPPED WORKING. ONE TIME WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND I HAD TO DRIVE IN THE DITCH TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. ANOTHER TIME WAS IN REVERSE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND I NEARLY HIT A PARKED TRUCK. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. GM, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
WHILE AT A CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE A RECALL (17276 LOSS OF POWER STEERING) DONE ON MY TRUCK I ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON A GRINDING/WHINING NOISE FROM THE AREA OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ON THE ENGINE. THEY SAID IN FACT IT WAS THE BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER PUMP, THAT IT SHOULD BE FIXED OR I COULD EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. THEY FURTHER EXPLAINED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THAT EXPIRED A YEAR AGO AND WOULD NOW COST ME SOME $440. AM WONDERING IF OTHER FOLKS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. I'VE READ OF IT HAPPENING TO OTHERS ON CERTAIN INTERNET BLOG SITES. TO MY WAY OF THINKING THE BRAKES (AND I SUPPOSE LOSS OF ABS/TRACTION CONTROL) ARE AT LEAST AS IMPORTANT AS THE STEERING THAT WAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM TO ISSUE A RECALL. BTW THE TRUCK HAD 27,971 MILES ON IT WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED, HARDLY 'WARN OUT'.
IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR IN A PARKING LOT IF YOU ARE ON AND OFF THE BREAKS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THE BREAK PETAL WILL GET HARD AND THE BREAKS GO OUT. IVE BROUGHT THIS UP TO CHEVROLET CORPORATE AND THEY ARE ALREADY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I'VE HAD TO APPLY VERY HARD PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDDLE TO STOP AND VERY NEARLY HIT A LIGHT POLE ONCE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IN HUMID OR RAINY WEATHER. I'VE HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED, PADS AND ROTORS CHECKED OUT FINE. I ALSO SPOKE WITH ANOTHER SILVERADO OWNER WHO NOTICED THE SAME ISSUE.
MY BRAKE ASSIST LIGHT KEPT COMING ON, AND WHEN I WOULD BE GOING AT A LOW SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WOULD GET VERY HARD AND STIFF. I WOULD HAVE TO APPLY ALL POSSIBLE WEIGHT I CAN IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I WAS INFORMED TODAY THAT A VACUUM PUMP IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE, AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE SEEING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AS I COULD HAVE EASILY HIT SOMEBODY, OR BEEN UNABLE TO STOP WHEN BACKING INTO MY GARAGE. IF IT HAD BEEN MY WIFE DRIVING, I DON'T KNOW IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT STOPPED WITH HOW HARD I WAS HAVING TO PRESS THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY. THIS HAPPENED WHILE IN A PARKING LOT IN MOTION, AND ALSO WHILE BACKING INTO MY GARAGE
AFTER DRIVING FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME AT A HIGHWAY SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS EXTREMELY HARD TO PUSH AND THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL FOR SEVERAL FEET AT SLOW SPEEDS, USUALLY UNDER 10 MPH. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN COMING TO A STOP LIGHT OR TRYING TO PARK IN A PARKING LOT. VERY UNSAFE. I BACKED INTO A CONCRETE WALL, LUCKILY DID NOT DAMAGE MY TRUCK. AFTER RESEARCH, MANY PEOPLE HAVE STATED IT IS A DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP. POOR PERFORMANCE BY GM, NOT TO MENTION THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE OR BACKING OF THE BAD PARTS THEY ARE PUTTING IN VEHICLES. BRAKES NOT WORKING IN A VEHICLE DUE TO A FAULTY PART IS UNSAFE. I HAVE A 2014 SILVERADO WITH 60K MILES. ON SUNDAY, I WAS PULLING INTO THE GARAGE AFTER A SHORT ERRAND AND I LOST MOST OF THE BRAKING POWER. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK BY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE BACKWARDS AND IT DID THE SAME THING. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE ISSUE WENT AWAY, MIND YOU DURING ALL OF THIS THE ABS LIGHT NEVER CAME ON EITHER. SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND A BULLETIN IN SOME RARE SITUATIONS, A CUSTOMER MAY COMMENT ON A HARD BRAKE PEDAL OR THAT INCREASED EFFORT IS NEEDED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHILE PERFORMING NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS, FLUID MAY BE FOUND IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND/OR THE BOOSTER VACUUM LINE. IF ENGINE OIL IS FOUND, IT IS IMPORTANT THE FOLLOWING PARTS ARE REPLACED. IF NOT, THE CONDITION WILL RETURN. 1. VACUUM PUMP 2. VACUUM LINE BETWEEN THE BOOSTER AND THE PUMP 3. BRAKE BOOSTER 4. MASTER CYLINDER AFTER FINDING THIS AND READING ALL THE ACCOUNTS I FEEL LIKE GM NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A SPECIAL COVERAGE. THIS IS 100% SAFETY CONCERN
WHEN PUMPING THE BREAK GOING IN REVERSE OR FORWARD SLOW I LOSE ALL BRAKING POWER AND PEDAL DOES NOT PUSH DOWN AT ALL.
I WAS PULLING INTO WORK AND BRAKE PEDDLE GOT STIFF THEN NO BRAKES I WAS BAKING INTO PARKING SPOT AND CONCRETE WALL STOPPED THE TRUCK I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID VACUUM PUMP AND BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS OUT FOR IT BUT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST $1000 DOLLARS TO FIX IT 68,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK THIS HAPPENS AT 15 MPH IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN FRONT OF ME IT COULD HAVE KILLED THEM
WHEN IN REVERSE AND APPLYING THE BRAKE, BRAKE PEDAL IS SO HARD TO PUSH AND WILL NOT STOP VEHICLE. ONLY HAPPENS IN REVERSE. DOESN'T MATTER IF ON INCLINE OR ON FLAT. BRAKE PEDAL CANNOT BE PUSHED AND VEHICLE STILL MOVING IN REVERSE POSITION.
AT LOW SPEEDS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY HARD WITH MAYBE A 1/4" OF TRAVEL. THE TRUCK BARELY STOPPED HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO ASSIST THE VEHICAL TO STOP. MADE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. TURNED THE VEHICAL OFF. GOT OUT CHECKED THE BRAKES VISUALLY. EVERYTHING SEEMED OK. I STARTED THE VEHICAL UP AND WITH CAUTION TRIED MOVING THE VEHICAL AND EVERY THING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THREE WEEKS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING PARKING ALONG THE CURB IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE.
MY BRAKE PEDAL JUST GOT HARD. IT TOOK WAS ALL I COULD DO TO STOP MY TRUCK,THANK GOODNESS I WAS IN A 35 MPH ZONE AND NOT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS ON VAC AND WENT TO LOCAL DEALER TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. MY BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILED & IT COST ME $504.00 TO REPAIR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKE WITH MOTOR AT IDLE OR CLOSE TO IT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL GET HARD. I CHECKED VACUUM FROM THE SEPARATE VACUUM PUMP AND ONLY HAD 9 IN HG. IT WILL BUILD AND STORE SOME VACUUM BUT WILL ALSO FADE AS IT IDLES. I REPLACED THE PUMP AND I NOW HAVE 26 IN HG AND WHEN PARKING OR DOING SHORT MANEUVERS ALL IS GOOD. I HAVE REPLACED THE PUMP AT A PRICE OF $135 AND DID THE WORK MYSELF.
I ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT A LOW SPEED AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ROCK HARD. THE TRUCK DID NOT WANT TO STOP AND TOOK A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FORCE ON THE PEDAL TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP.
MANY TIMES THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD WHEN DEPRESSED AND STOPPING IS VERY SLOW. MOST TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED WHEN APPROACHING STOP LIGHTS OR PARKING. ONE TIME WAS AT OVER 65MPH. HAVE BEEN TO 2 DEALERS AND NEITHER CAN GET THE ISSUE TO REPEAT OR GET A CODE TO DIAGNOSE. PROBLEM HAPPENED FIRST AT 40K MILES AND CONTINUES NOW AT 60K MILES.
DRIVING 70 MILES AN HOUR ON THE TOLL ROAD IN A BOOSTER PUMP WENT OUT AND NO BREAKS HAD TO STOP MANUALLY FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME I REPLACING THE BOOSTER PUMP THE DEALER WILL NOT RESPOND THERE ADVICE WAS FOR ME TO BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. 40,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK I BOUGHT IT IN 2015 DECEMBER A DEMO AT 5000 MILES ON IT AND IT NOW HAS 40,000 MILES .THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM MY USES THE TRUCK TO COMMUTE TOO WORK DAILY HAD SHE BEEN DRIVING SHE WOULD HAVE WRECKED THE TRUCK
PER ATTACHED WORK ORDERS, MY BRAKES WERE GOING TO THE FLOOR IN REVERSE ONLY. THEY REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AND SAID ALL FIXED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER HAPPENED AGAIN SO NOW REPLACED VACUUM & BOOSTER PUMP. THAT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO. STILL WORKING AND FILED COMPLAINT WITH GM BUT THEY SAID NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THESE HAVE NO MOVING OR MECHANICAL PARTS AND SHOULD PROBABLY NEVER WEAR OUT. PRIOR TO ALL THIS I WAS GETTING A REPORT TO SERVICE ELECTRONIC TRAILER BRAKES BUT HAD NOT HOOKED UP A TRAILER? WHEN FIRST POINTED THIS OUT THEY SAID COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED ELECTRONIC SWITCH AS "BAD". PERSONALLY I FEEL IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL THE PARTS REPLACED AND FEEL STRONGLY THAT THIS IS ELECTRONIC AND RELATED TO THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ELECTRONICS OR MOTHER BOARD. VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE MOVING SLOWLY. DAMAGED REAR BUMPER LAST FAIL DUE TO UNABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. IF SOMEONE WAS BEHIND ME DIRECTING ME THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THEY COULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED OR INJURED SERIOUSLY. I FEEL THIS IS A RECALL WAITING TO HAPPEN.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 SILVERADO MY BRAKES BECAME HARD TO USE. I HAD TO PUSH HARD WITH BOTH GET TO GET THEM TO WORK. THEN I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY AND THEY WHERE FINE UNTIL I TRIED TO PARK AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I FOUND ON A FORUM THAT THIS IS A VACCUME PUMP ISSUE THAT IS COMMON IN THIS YEAR.

BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD TO PRESS IN MAKING VEHICLE HARD TO STOP
NO POWER BRAKES. AT LOW SPEEDS VACUUM PUMP DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH VACUUM FOR BRAKES TO WORK. VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE NO BRAKES. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN PIT5361B WHEN I SPOKE TO CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WASN'T COVERED UNDER THIS BUT IT CLEARLY IS. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND MIGHT CAUSE MANY ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS
MY TRUCK HAS 43K MILES ON IT. DRIVING IT THE OTHER DAY ON A CITY STREET, I HEARD A SQUEALING SOUND, AND THEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I HAD TO PUSH DOWN REALLY HARD TO AVOID REAR ENDING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME ON MY WAY HOME. WHEN I GOT HOME I COULD SEE THAT THE BELT POWERING THE VACUUM ASSIST PUMP FOR THE BRAKES HAD SNAPPED. SO I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND PURCHASED ANOTHER ONE. PUT IT ONE AND STARTED THE TRUCK. THE SQUEALING WAS QUITE LOUD BECAUSE THE BELT WAS TURNING, BUT NOT THE VACUUM PUMP. SO I REMOVED THE PUMP AND DISCOVERED LARGE AMOUNTS OF METAL SHARDS IN THE OIL, WHICH NOW MEANS I CAN'T DRIVE THE TRUCK WITHOUT RISKING TAKING OUT MY ENGINE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

FORTUNATELY WE WERE ABLE TO ROLL TO A STOP WITHOUT CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT. I WAS TOWED TO MY DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT AND SEEMS TOO DANGEROUS FOR SUCH A NEW VEHICLE.

FRONT BRAKES WORE OUT ON BOTH OUTBOARD PADS. INBOARD PADS ARE ALMOST NEW.TRUCK HAS 32,000MI. I BOUGHT IT NEW. DEALER SAID CALIPERS WERE NOT SLIDING. I CHECKED THE BRAKES MYSELF AND FOUND THAT NOT TRUE. I REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS MYSELF AND TOOK PICTURES AND SAVED ALL PARTS. THERE MUST BE A REASON, AND I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,316.

WHILE RETURNING FROM A TRIP PULLING MY CAMPER TRAILER ON JULY 15, 2014, THE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED (NO BRAKES TO CAMPER), WITH MESSAGE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO MALFUNCTION OF PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE CARGO LIGHT BUTTON AND PEDAL ADJUSTMENT BUTTON DID NOT WORK, ONLY A DAY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER AND HER HUSBAND THEN DECIDED TO TAKE A DRIVE. WHEN HER HUSBAND PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE, AND LIKE HE ALWAYS DID, HE SLOWLY TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND LET THE TRUCK IDLE BACKWARDS. HOWEVER, WHEN HE DID, THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY ADJUSTED UP FOR A VERY SHORT PERSON AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND THE VEHICLE SHOT OUT OF THE GARAGE VERY FAST. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BOTH PEDALS ADJUSTED TOGETHER, BUT THAT WASN'T THE WAY IT SEEMED. HE IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO HIT THE BRAKE, BUT IT WAS ADJUSTED UP SO HIGH, HE COULDN'T GET HIS FOOT ON IT, UNTIL THEY WERE ALMOST THROUGH THE CARPORT AND THE VEHICLE STRUCK ONE OF THE STEEL POSTS OF THE CARPORT, DOING SEVERAL THOUSANDS DOLLARS OF DAMAGE. THE NEXT MORNING, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, FOR AN INSPECTION. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER CALLED, STATING THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. ALSO, THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM WOULD NOT SAVE AN ADDRESS. UPDATED 03/27/14
