The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of metal fragment chippings coming from the rear subframe of the vehicle. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 68,500.
A well-documented and increasingly widespread problem related to excessive rust on the frames of many vehicles in this particular model year range. The cause of the problem appears to stem from a poorly applied or degrading wax coating, which, over time, peels off, leaving the frame exposed to corrosion, particularly in harsh weather conditions such as heavy snow and road salt exposure. The result is catastrophic—my Silverado’s frame and crossmembers are now severely compromised, and the integrity of the vehicle is in question.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the headliner above the rear window had water stains. The contact stated that as a mechanic, he had inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the water was leaking from the third brake light. The contact stated that the gasket surrounding the third brake light was no longer properly sealing the third brake light. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Frame rotted through
GM has known issues with their frames rotting prematurely. We bought a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 in 2016 and had it undercoated at a dealership that claims it will prolong the inevitable rusting/frame rot. The truck has just under 99k miles and should be worth $15-17,000 and won't pass inspection due to severe frame rot we are told it is very unsafe and not drivable. We will be lucky to get $4,000-5,000 to trade for a part out. Our only other option is to spend $10,000 to get a new frame. GM has known about this issue and fails to do anything about it. Toyota had similar issues and stood by their name and products and replaced frames or gave consumers $10,000+ to make it right. It is not fair to the consumer we cannot win a class action against GM and demand a payout for such massive losses. Had we known our frame was so bad, we wouldn't have dropped over $5,000 in it over the last 11 months for rocker panels, cab corners, shocks, bearings, etc. We are out $15,000 on this truck and GM should be held accountable. There are thousands of people nations wide that are in the same boat hoping GM will be held liable at some-point for the distress they have cause their loyal customers.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while approaching the vehicle, he noticed that the passenger's side exterior rocker panel had detached. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the subframe was severely corroded on the driver's side and on the passenger's side, and the corrosion had extended to the passenger's side exterior rocker panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 110,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that under the driver's and passenger's side doors were rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Chassis framework has corrosion including perforation of major frame parts near rear wheels and under the fuel tank. Vehicle has only 70,000 miles and has been well taken care of including regular winter weather washings with underbody wash package. This is a known problem and should have been addressed similar to Toyota truck frame problems. Now I have a like-new appearing vehicle which has been well maintained however the chassis frame is now unsafe and in need of repair. This problem should be addressed up to and including frame replacement.
Significant corrosion / rust on frame that compromises vehicle safety by weakening the frame. An independent service provider identified large rust hole in frame and multiple areas of significant corrosion. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer however there are service bulletins for this year, make, and model to correct the manufacturer-identified failed corrosion/rust prevention coating system for this year, make, and model. Specifically General Motors Service Bulletin 19-NA-255. Holes affecting integrity of frame were first discovered in December 2023; subsequent holes and areas of significant corrosions (ie, soft spots) in the structural frame have been identified.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while doing an oil change, the contact became aware that there was rust coming from the fuel tank to the back of the fuel tank. The fuel pump had been leaking fuel. The contact replaced the fuel pump and while removing the bed of the truck, there was rust on the bed of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 188,000.
I bought this vehicle used, in February of 2019. Everything about the vehicle was checked and in very good shape. Approximately a year ago, early 2023, I was told that a bit of coating had come off the frame and was beginning to rust excessively. In January of this year during a dealership visit for repairs I was shown an area of the frame that looked like hunks of rust had fallen of, and then I was told this will turn into a major problem. My most recent visit, on March 21, 2024, I was again informed about the frame rust and was shown not only the rust problem, but large cracks in the frame that could not be repaired and is a major safety issue. I find it hard to believe a ten year old vehicle with 89455 miles can be beyond repair without this being a manufactures issue !
I am the owner of a 10 year old Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with less than 82000 miles. Chevrolet has Service Bulletins out regarding frame rust, but I was unable to have a dealership repair the surface rust for the 7 years I have owned the truck. My frame is now rusted out to the point it is not safe to operate and will cost over $15000 for Chevrolet to repair since the Service Bulletin was not resolved during the visits to dealerships for service during the Factory Warranty Period. My truck has never been abused. As Chevrolet stated in [XXX] , this may be a result of a manufacturing issue. This issue is beyond a cosmetic issue and does affect the safety of the vehicle, the driver, passengers, property, and people around. This issue is not isolated to me and my truck, but many others. Thanks to this not being looked at as a safety concern I am now left without a safe method of transportation. Frame rust and deterioration needs to be upgraded to a recall, just as Toyota. The frame build is similar so has the same results. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Truck failed state inspection because the frame had rust/corrosion holes in. Frame has been replaced @ this time & the old frame was scrapped. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Due to the rotted/rusted frame the reliabilty & safety of the vehicle was compromised & could have resulted in injury, accident or death Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Independent garage verified the defective frame & replaced it w/a new frame. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? After having the frame replaced the vehicle now passed the required state safety inspection. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Some surface rust was visible on the frame but it was not discovered to have rotted holes through until the underside was looked @ for the state safety inspection. It should also be noted that Chevrolet was contacted & provided the same documentation attached within. Chevrolet DENIED any re-imbursement due to the following: "After further review by our GM Reimbursement team, the vehicle is not eligible for a repair reimbursement due to the repairs being performed at a 3rd party. Also the vehicle is outside of the bumper to bumper warranty it would have been covered under by age and mileage."
My roof has started leaking recently in the back part of cab.
The frame is completely rusted out. Parts are falling off of it, it rusted under the factory wax rust preventive coating. the abs system will brake the truck on its own without any warning lights.
The 2014 Silverado I own the frame is rusting through already! Only 168,000 miles and cleaned and maintained very regularly and the frame is rusted so badly its almost scary to continue driving! My 97 Silverado the frame is still solid as can be with almost 400,000 miles on it and my 10 year old truck with half the miles the frame is shot already? Unacceptable!!
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the contact drove over a bump in the roadway and heard an abnormal sound. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and noticed that the subframe underneath the vehicle was extremely rusted. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and charged the contact for a new subframe. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, there was a loud thumping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road where it was inspected. The contact stated that he observed an unknown component corroded underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000.
The frame has rusted to the point that expensive repairs are needed for a truck that's 9 years old. The problem started around 2020, at 120K miles. I already had the gas tank crossmember replaced, only to now have the rear crossmember rust out including the rear of the tailgate. The rear strut is now hitting the bed compromising the performance of the suspension. When the rear strut mount broke, it caught the rear body harness and cut two cables that caused the traction control to shut off while I was driving. I attached pictures of the damage.
Brought truck in for a NYS inspection and it failed due to rust and cracked frame. While it was still on the lift the frame collapsed and the back end fell off the lift. Luckily nobody was under it. This seems to be a common issue on many of the Chevy forums. Something needs to be done before failures like this happen on the roads.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle to be serviced, the independent mechanic informed him that contact the sub frame was corroded. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Paint peeling all over vehicle
Paint adhesion issues. Paint flaking. Upon internet research, these issues are common with this body style truck.
PAINT PEELING OFF CAB.
RUST ACCUMULATION IS VERY EXTREME
THE PAINT ON THE REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER DOORS IS PEELING OFF. LOOKS TO ME THAT IT'S A BAD BATCH OF PAINT. IT'S PEELING OFF ON THE SAME LOCATION ON BOTH DOORS AND THIS WASN'T CAUSED BY ROCK CHIPS OR ANY TYPE OF IMPACT.
PEELING/FLAKING PAINT PASSENGER REAR DOOR ON THE POST NEAREST THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK IS WHITE. 2014 50K MILES GARAGE KEPT. WILL SEARCH THE VEHICLE FOR MORE PAINT ISSUES.
PAINT ON REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR STARTED TO PEEL AWAY WITH NOT DAMAGE TO THE BODY OR PRIMER. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED , AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPAIR THIS AT MY OWN COST. *TR
DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND STRUCK AN ONCOMING TRAILER AND ULTIMATELY LOST HIS LIFE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BUT STILL ON OUR POSSESSION. *TR
PAINT ON MY 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS CHIPPING OR FLAKING OFF FOR REASONS OTHER THAN NATURAL CAUSES. THE VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT AND HAS ONLY 55,000 MILES ON IT. THE PAINT SHOULD IN NO WAY BE FAILING WITH A VEHICLE THIS NEW AND THIS EXPENSIVE. AS YOU WILL SEE IN THE PHOTOS THE PAINT NOT STICKING IS IN AREAS THAT DO NOT INCUR DAMAGE FROM EVERYDAY DRIVING. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND GM MANUFACTURER AND BOTH HAVE TOLD ME THAT PAINT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. WHEN I DO A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH FOR "2014 SILVERADO PAINT," THERE ARE 100S OF FORUMS WITH 1000S OF COMMENTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. ONE OF THE FIRST PICTURES I CAME TO WHEN I SEARCHED, SHOWED THE SAME VEHICLE WITH PAINT GONE IN THE EXACT SAME SPOTS. AFTER TALKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER NUMEROUS TIMES, I FELT THIS WAS ONE OF MY LAST RESORTS. THE MANUFACTURER LAUGHED ME OFF AND SAID NHTSA WOULD PAY NO ATTENTION AS PAINT ISNT A SAFETY CONCERN. SOMEONE HAS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT WITHOUT ME HAVING TO SPEND THOUSANDS TO REPAINT. IT'S A CLEAR MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY ALL STANDARDS. THE COST OF THEIR VEHICLES BEING SO HIGH, ALL PARTS SHOULD LAST FOR MORE THAN 55000 MILES, INCLUDING THE PAINT. AGAIN, THIS VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT AND LOSES PAINT JUST BY DRIVING WITH A BREEZE OUT. ASIDE FROM THE 2 PHOTOS ATTACHED, I'M ALSO LOSING PAINT AROUND THE WINDSHIELD AND LOW ON THE DOOR PANELS.
THIS IS THE WORST PAINT JOB I HAVE EVER HAD ON A VEHICLE. WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW FROM PASO ROBLES CHEVROLET ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2014. BY SUMMER OF 2018, THE PAINT HAD STARTED PEELING OFF THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR OF CHEVROLETS. CHEVROLET AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO HELP. THIS YEAR I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO GET THE DOORS PAINTED WHICH COST ME $2,500. WHILE AT THE BODY SHOP, THEY DISCOVERED THREE MORE PLACES THAT THE PAINT IS CHIPPING AND PEELING OFF. I PUT IN ANOTHER CASE WITH CHEVROLET AND THEY DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHILE COMING UP TO TRAFFIC AND COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME ROCK HARD AND MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP IN TIME. IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF THE OTHER OTHER VEHICLES, I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID THEM AND SIDE SWIPED A GUARDRAIL. MY VEHICLE NOW HAS BODY DAMAGED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT HAS BEEN DROPPED OFF AT CONCORD CHEVROLET IN CONCORD, CALIFORNIA. I ALSO FILED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE AS WELL AS GENERAL MOTORS.
PAINT ON MY 2014 CHEVY SILVERADO BUBBLING AND PEELING OFF
SATELLITE-RADIO ANTENNA ON TOP OF TRUCK IS LEAKING INSIDE OF THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. DAMAGE DONE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE TRUCK DUE TO THIS HAPPENING.
PAINT STARTED PEELING ON THE A PILLAR DRIVER SIDE AND IS NOW PEELING ON PASSENGER SIDE SAME PLACE. ALSO DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW CORNER PEELING AS WELL AS PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW CORNER PAINT PEELING SAME PLACE. PAINT IS NOW STARTING TO PEEL ABOVE THE REAR DOOR ON THE ROOF AS WELL. I SPOKE TO CHEVY DEALER AS WELL AS CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE BBB ALL SAID OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THE DISCOVERY RULE SHOULD APPLY AS THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO KNOW THE PAINT WAS DEFECTIVE WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
PAINT PEELING..PAINT ON HOOD, SIDE DOORS BY WINDOWS ARE PEELING
THE PAINT ON MY TRUCK IS PEALING OFF. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET AND THEY INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM. CHEVROLET DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT BUT SINCE THE TRUCK HAD 69000 MILES ON IT AND WAS OUT OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PAINT. I FEEL SINCE IT WAS DETERMINED A FACTORY DEFECT THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.
IT STARTED AS A SMALL BUBBLES IN THE PAINT ON THE ROOF RIGHT ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD BEFORE THE SUNROOF. 2 BUBBLES CRACKED AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT TOOK PAINT OFF THE ROOF. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE WERE TO JUST PEEL IT ALL OFF. THERE ARE NO CHIPS NO DINGS OR ANYTHING IT'S PEELING OFF PAINT EVERYDAY AND I LOOK ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS SAYING THE SAME THING AND IT'S RIDICULOUS 40K TRUCK AND THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF LIKE THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THERE. ALL THE PRIMER IS STILL THERE JUST PAINT IS PEELING OFF BADLY. I'M VERY UNPLEASED BY GM AND THE DEALERSHIPS SAYING IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND CAN'T HELP WITH THIS. GM KNOWS THERE IS A PAINT ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP CUSTOMERS. I ONLY HAVE TAKEN ONE PICTURE SO FAR WILL HAVE MORE TO COME. I ALSO HAVE OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING AS WELL ABOUT PAINT EVEN ON 2017 TRUCKS THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE JUNE OF 2018. I CURRENTLY HAVE 6+ PAIN CHIPS ON THE TRUCK AND IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE. I DO NOT TAKE THE TRUCK THROUGH AUTOMATIC CAR WASHES AND I KEEP THE TRUCK IN A GARAGE. I HAVE SEEN OTHER CHEVY SILVERADO OWNERS WITH THE EXACT ISSUE. I DO NOT FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE DAMAGES AS ITS A DEFECT TO THEIR PAINT JOB.
PAINT PEELING, THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. PEELING AROUND THE DOORS BUT GM WONT FIX IT AND NOW ITS OUT OF WARRANTY.
WHEN LOCKING DOORS PASSENGER REAR DOOR DOES NOT LOCK WHEN PARKED HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK
PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW IN 2014 AND CURRENTLY HAS 50K (12/18) ON VEHICLE. SIGNIFICANT DEGRADATION OF WAX UNDERCOAT ON FRAME, PEELING OFF ALLOWING WATER ETC TO BE TRAPPED BENEATH IT. FRAME HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST ON AREAS WHERE UNDERCOATING FAILED. DEALER RECOMMENDS THE FRAME BE REPAIRED AND RUST STOPPED TO "SAVE WHAT IS LEFT OF IT". DEALER SAYS GM WILL NOT COVER REPAIR. EMAILED GM AND NO REPLY
MY 2014 CHEVY SILVERADO HAS LESS THAN 36000 MILES ON IT AND HAS SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FRAME. METAL IS FLAKING OFF THE FLAME IN LARGE PIECES AND SUPPORT ELEMENTS HAVE SIGNIFICANT RUST INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE LOOKS BRAND NEW. I CONTACTED CHEVY AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED IT AND SAID THAT SINCE NONE OF THE CORROSION OR RUST WAS NOT "THROUGH" MEANING THEY COULD STICK THEIR FINGER THROUGH A HOLE, IT WAS NOT COVERED. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE FRAME AT MY COST. THIS IS SEVERE RUST. IT IS NOT SIMPLE SURFACE RUST EXPECTED ON VEHICLE. IT IS FLAKING OFF AND WOULD TAKE SIGNIFICANT LABOR TO GRIND/BRUSH AND REPAIR. THE FRAME AS IT IS NOW IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I CRINGE EVERY TIME I HIT A POTHOLE. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND FOR THE SAFETY OF MY OCCUPANTS AND FELLOW DRIVERS IF THE FRAME WERE TO COLLAPSE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION AND SEVERE RUST. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF THIS ASKING HOW FLAKING RUST ON THE MAIN FRAME AND SUPPORT MEMBERS WAS NOT AN ISSUE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS "MINOR" RUST.
I BOUGHT THIS 2014 SILVERADO WITH 42,000 MILES IN OCTOBER 2015. I NOTICED THE TOP OF THE CAB, BY THE GPS/SATELLITE RADIO ANTENNA HAD A SPOT OF CLEAR COAT MISSING IT'S ABOUT THE SIZE OF A DIME. I FIGURED THAT IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. HOWEVER ABOUT TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER BOTH FRONT DOORS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER HAVE DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUE. BOTH SPOTS ARE VERY NOTICEABLE AND LOOK TERRIBLE. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE REAR QUARTERS HAVE CLEAR COAT THAT'S CHIPPED AWAY. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP AND THE FIRST THING THEY DID WAS OPENED THE DOOR AND NOTICED THAT I HAVE RUST FORMING ON THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE DOOR. THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AS CHEVY SUPPOSEDLY HAS A 10 YEAR CORROSION WARRANTY. THE FIRST DEALER DIDN'T WANT TO HELP AND TRIED TO SAY THAT I WAS WASHING IT WRONG. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM. I WALKED THEM AROUND THE WHOLE TRUCK SHOWING EVERY SPOT THAT HAS CHIPPED CLEAR COAT. THEY DID TAKE PICTURES OF ALL THE SPOTS I SHOWED THEM AND WOULD SUBMIT THEM TO GM WITH A FILED CLAIM. GM CAME BACK A FEW DAYS LATER AND SAID IT'S PRETTY MUCH MY PROBLEM SINCE I'M NOT THE 'FIRST OWNER'. I COULD FIX THE ISSUE MYSELF, BUT AFTER DOING SOME FURTHER RESEARCH. OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS COME BACK TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM RETURNS, SOME CASES THESE TRUCKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY RESPRAYED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR A TRUCK AND IT GOES TO CRAP IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS. MY LAST CHEVY WAS 20 YEARS OLD WHEN I TRADED IT IN AND IT DIDN'T HAVE PAINT ISSUES LIKE THESE NEWER TRUCKS.
PAINT FAILURE ON MY WHITE 2014 CHEVY SILVERADO. I HAVE GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ESCALATED MY COMPLAINT TO MARY BARRA'S OFFICE. DECLINED TO PROVIDE REMEDY OR CORRECTION STATING THERE ARE NO KNOWN DEFECTS TO THIS PRODUCT.
PAINT IS FLAKING AWAY VERY EASILY
THE PAINT IS PEELING ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ON THE LOWER PART NEAR THE FRONT OF THE DOOR. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR HAD ANY TYPE OF WORK DONE TO THE PAINT.
I PURCHASE A 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 FROM A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN APRIL 2017 FOR MY SON TO GO TO COLLEGE. THE TRUCK WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION. IT WAS A "CERTIFIED USED VECHICLE". THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED AN ADDITIONAL 20,000 MILE OVER OEM WARRANTY WITH THE CERTIFIED STATUS. WE TOOK THE TRUCK HOME AND MY SON STARTED DRIVING THE TRUCK. ROUGHLY A MONTH LATER, WE BOTH NOTICE THE CLEAR COAT ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR BEGAN TO PEEL IN A SMALL SPOT. WE TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP AT IT'S 1ST SERVICE INTERVAL AND ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE SPOT. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT THIS WAS A VERY UNUSUAL SITUATION, AND UNFORTUNATELY SINCE THE ORIGINAL 36,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AFTER AN ANOTHER MONTH HAD PASSED, WE NOTICED THE SPOT ON THE DOOR HAD GROWN LARGER, AND THERE WERE ADDITIONAL SPOTS POPPING UP ON VARIOUS SPOTS ON THE TRUCK. I PERSONALLY TOOK THE VECHICLE TO THE DEALER AND ONCE AGAIN THEY INDICATED THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND CHEVROLET CURRENTLY WASN'T EXPERIENCING AND ISSUES WITH THEIR PAINT AND CLEAR COAT PROCESS. MY SON WENT TO COLLEGE THIS FALL, AND UPON HIS RETURN FROM COLLEGE I SAW THE SPOTS OF CLEAR COAT CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN SIZE AND NUMBER. I RECENTLY WENT ONLINE AND CLICKED SEVERAL CHEVROLET FORUMS REGARDING THE FALLIBILITY OF THEIR PAINT AND CLEAR COAT. I WAS AMAZED AT THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR PAINT AND CLEAR COAT. THIS WASN'T AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AS THE DEALER INDICATED BUT ONE THAT INVOLVES MANY TRUCKS AND CARS THAT CHEVROLET PRODUCES DURING THE YEARS OF 2013-2015. CAN THERE BE SOMETHING DONE REGARDING THIS MATTER. I AM AWARE THAT THIS ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE PER SAY; HOWEVER, WE HAVE A PROBLEM THAT CHEVROLET ISN'T WILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR REPAIR.
PAINT IS PEELING REALLY EASY ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSANGER SIDE AND A LITTLE BIT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. PAINT PEELS REALLY EASY. FOR ONLY 34,000 MILES THIS IS NOT NORMAL. DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO
ABOUT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO I STARTED NOTICING PAINT PEELING OFF ON THE LOWER HALF OF THE DOORS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF ALL DOORS AND ALSO ON THE SIDES OF THE BOX. MY TRUCK IS 3 YEARS OLD WITH 59,000 MILES NOW. I WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAID I SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET DIRECTLY. THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER CHEVROLET TRUCKS THE SAME YEAR AND EVEN NEWER TRUCKS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE HAD MUD FLAPS INSTALLED SINCE THE TRUCK WAS NEW( THE DEALER BLAMED IT ON ROCK CHIPS WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE TRUCK). I HAD TO START COMPLAINING SOMEWHERE RIGHT!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (DENOOYER CHEVROLET LOCATED IN ALBANY, NEW YORK) WHO APPLIED A WAX RUST PROOF COATING TO THE FRAME, BUT THE RUSTING CONTINUED TO PROGRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WAX RUST PROOF COATING WAS A TEMPORARY REMEDY AND WOULD EVENTUALLY WEAR OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT A POWDER COATING WAS BEING APPLIED TO ONLY NEWER VEHICLES TO PREVENT THE RUSTING FROM OCCURRING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SENT TO AN AUTHORIZED CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR "RUST PROOFING" OF FRAME BACK IN DEC. 2016. BODY SHOP MANAGER NOTIFIED ME THAT THIS WAS A "BAND AID" TO THE PROBLEM IN 2014 CHEVY SILVERADO. DURING MANUFACTURING OF VEHCLE I WAS TOLD GM PUTS A "WAX" ON FRAME. ONCE THE "WAX" WEARS OFF, THE METAL ON THE FRAME IS EXPOSED TO THE HARMFUL ENVIROMENTAL AGENTS (SALT,WATER, DIRT). AFTER 6 MONTHS OF "RUST PROOFING," RUST RE-APPEARED ON FRAME. THIS FRAME WILL NOT LAST 3-5 YEARS. VERY DANGEROUS AND UN-SAFE. UPDATED 10/4/18*JB

THE CONDENSER UNIT HAS CRACKED AND COME AWAY FOR THE STRUCTURAL HOUSING CAUSING THE UNIT TO LEAK FREON MEANING THAT THE A/C DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS A DESIGN FAULT FOR THE 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO MODELS THROUGH GM/CHEVROLET AND CURRENTLY THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE PART (NR. 84211191). THIS SHOWS THAT THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND AS THINGS STAND CHEVROLET CANNOT EVEN GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE AS TO WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE AGAIN. I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS SHOULD BE GROUNDS ENOUGH FOR SOME SORT OF REIMBURSEMENT / RECALL.

PAINT AND FRAME COATING DEFECTIVE.
THE FRAME HAS MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RUST. FRONT TO BACK EVEN REACHING UP INTO THE CAB AT THE REAR SEAT MOUNTS. ONLY 22,000 MILES. NEVER SEEN THIS MUCH AGGRESSIVE RUST ON SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. FEAR IT COULD EFFECT THE VEHICLE SYSTEMS, BRAKES OR FRAME INTEGRITY, SEAT MOUNTS. BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED IN JUNE 2016 (PRIVATE PARTY) AND DID NOT REALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE ISSUE. ON BRIEF VISUAL INSPECTION LOOKED LIKE NORMAL MICHIGAN RUST. IT'S SO NEW AND THE BODY IS PERFECT DIDN'T THINK I HAD TO LOOK INTO RUST ISSUES. CHECKED CAR FAX FOR RECALLS AND ACCIDENTS.

FRAME RUST HAS DEVELOPED ON RAILS UNDER BED. THE PROTECTIVE WAX COATING IS FALLING OFF, ONE SECTION IS ABOUT THREE INCHES. RUST HAS DEVELOPED IN THE TUBES OF THE FRAME AND ON AREAS CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND ABOUT 12,000 MILES. THE RUST HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE.
WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 45MPH THE VEHICLE DROPPED FROM 6 CYLINDERS TO 4 CYLINDERS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN 4 CYLINDER MODE AND IT HAD TO ACCELERATE THE ENTIRE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT STARTED TO VIOLENTLY VIBRATE (SORRY BUT THAT??S THE BEST DESCRIPTION I CAN GIVE) ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM CHEVROLET SO FAR HAS CHANGED THE TIRES, REALIGNED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REPLACED THE EXHAUST CLAMPS, ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM. NONE OF THESE HAVE YET TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS OCCURS AT ALL SPEEDS WITH OR WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. *TR
ON APPROXIMATELY JULY 19, 2014, THE HILL DESCENT MODE FAILED ON MY 2014 SILVERADO 1500 AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON. THE TRUCK TOOK OFF WHEN THIS FAILED AND I HAD TO MANUALLY USE MY BRAKES IN ORDER TO AVOID CRASHING INTO ANY VEHICLES AHEAD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER WHO, AND I QUOTE 'THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE CONCERN AND THERE WERE NO CODES STORED IN THE SYSTEM'. ONLY FOUR MILES WERE PUT ON THE TRUCK WHILE IT WAS IN THEIR SHOP. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY TEST THIS FAILURE IF YOU DIDN'T DRIVE IT IN THE MOUNTAINS? NEXT MAJOR ISSUE WAS THE ONSTAR ANTENNA BEGAN TO LEAK INTO THE CAB, SOAKING THE HEADLINER, THE FLOOR AND LEAKING INTO THE DASH WHERE ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE. DEALER 'DIDN'T HAVE THE PART TO FIX THIS' AND IT CONTINUES TO LEAK TO THIS DAY. AND FINALLY, HAVING NOTICED ALL THE POSTS ABOUT RUST UNDERNEATH THIS TRUCK, I TOO, DISCOVERED THAT THE 'WAX' COATING HAD DETERIORATED AND MAJOR RUST ISSUES HAD DEVELOPED. I HAVE OWNED CHEVROLET TRUCKS FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER, EVER FOUND THEM TO BE THE PIECE OF JUNK THIS VEHICLE IS. THE HILL DESCENT MODE IS A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE CEO OF GM IN A DETAILED LETTER WITH PICTURES TO PROVE EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THIS TRUCK. CAUTION*****BEFORE YOU SHELL OUT FIFTY GRAND FOR THIS TRUCK, READ EACH AND EVERY POST ON THIS WEBSITE IN ORDER TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION. *TR
MY SILVERADO DOESN'T HAVE CHILD DOOR LOCKS, AND EVEN WHEN THE DOORS ARE LOCKED, IF YOU PULL THE HANDLE TWICE IT OPENS THE DOOR. MY TWO YEAR OLD OPENED THE DOOR ON THE HIGHWAY AND SCARED US SO BAD WE NEARLY WRECKED. NOW HIS CAR SEAT IS IN THE MIDDLE BUT THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE DESIGN. *TR
WHILE MOVING FROM A STOP THE TRUCK SOMETIMES LAGS IN ACCELERATION WHICH MAY CAUSE THE OPERATOR TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR FURTHER THAN REQUIRED TO ENTER TRAFFIC. THIS CONDITION ALSO MAY CAUSE A SHORT ACCELERATION DELAY WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC THAT CAN BE UNEXPECTED BY THE OPERATOR. I HAVE BEEN SURPRISED MANY TIMES BY THIS OPERATOR DISCONNECT ACCELERATING FROM A STATIONARY POSITION. AFTER DRIVING MY NEW TRUCK 900 MILES I INVESTIGATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY BRACKET TO FIND THAT THE ENTIRE BRACKET IS NOT PROPERLY FASTENED STRUCTURALLY TO THE FIRE WALL BY DESIGN. I INSPECTED MY TRUCK ON 12/23/14 AND FOUND THIS PROBLEM, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BRACKET FLEX ON MY TRUCK LOOKS TO BE ~3/4" TO 1" BEFORE THE ELECTRONIC LINKAGE ENGAGES. THE PEDAL TIP-IN ENGAGEMENT HAS TO FLEX THE MOUNTING BRACKET BEFORE THE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION SWITCH ENGAGES. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE GM ENGINEERING AND DESIGN TEAM'S WOULD APPROVE OF SUCH A FLIMSY MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THIS IMPORTANT PART OF BASIC MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION. I FEEL OVER TIME AND USAGE THAT THIS BRACKET MAY COMPLETELY FAIL AS CURRENTLY DESIGNED. I COULD SHIM AND INSTALL ADDITIONAL HARDWARE TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT I FEEL THIS DESIGN ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH GM BEFORE SOMEONE HAS A CRASH OR WORST. *TR
JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK, FIRST DAY OR TWO DROVE SLOW NO ISSUES. ONCE I GOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING AROUND 65-70 MPG I START TO GET A VIBRATION AND SHAKING TO THE POINT IT FEELS NOT SAFE AT ALL. I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET AND TONS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TRUCK IS BRAND NEW TRUCK. *TR
UPON DELIVERY OF NEW 2014 CREW CAB SILVERADO, WITH 21 MILES, FRAME RUST WAS OCCURRING AND COATING WAS PEELING OFF. GM IS AWARE OF ISSUE AND HAS A TSB, #PI0564D, BUT DEALERSHIPS ARE RELUCTANT OR UNWILLING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I LIVE IN THE NORTH EAST WITH HEAVY ROAD SALTING AND BEFORE THE TRUCK HAS EVEN SEEN WET PAVEMENT, THE FRAME IS RUSTING DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECTS DURING THE ASSEMBLY. I AM CURRENTLY UNABLE TO GET SATISFACTORY REPAIR WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. GM CAN NOT CLAIM, LIKE THEY WANT TO, THAT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES CAUSING RUST ARE NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THIS FRAME RUST IS OCCURRING AT THE FACTORY DUE TO ASSEMBLY LINE DEFECTS PROBABLY RELATED TO NOT WASHING/TREATING THE FRAMES PRIOR TO COATING THEM. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION THAT IS FELT THRU OUT THE STEERING WHEEL, FLOOR PAN AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT CAUSES THE MIDDLE CONSOLE TO SHAKE/VIBRATE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE WILL CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN THE VEHICLE AT A LATER DATE. THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO LET ME TRADE IT IN ON ANOTHER VEHICLE AT MY FULL EXPENSE, AND STATES THAT MY VEHICLE IS ACTING AS DESIGNED. GM REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BAD VIBRATION ,I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL BUT ITS NOT .I HAVE CALL GM 3 TIMES AND EMAIL BUT THEY DO NOTHING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, BOTH FRONT DOORS ON THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE WIND INCREASED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
FRAME RAILS ARE SHOWING RUST. ALSO REAR AXLE IS RUSTING. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW ON FEBRUARY 13, 2014 WITH APPROXIMATELY 33 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON APRIL 23, 2014, I NOTICED THAT THE BLACK WAX COATING ON THE FRAME WAS PEELING OFF AND RUST WAS DEVELOPING IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET THIS REPAIRED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM. IN THE MEAN TIME I'VE BEEN INSPECTING OTHER 2014 SILVERADOS ON DEALERSHIP LOTS AND I NOTICED RUST DEVELOPING ON THOSE FRAMES IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS AS WELL. AFTER CONSULTING WITH A DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. IN MY OPINION THOUGH A BRAND NEW TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING LIKE THIS AND I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS REGARDING THE LONG TERM QUALITY AND SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AS A RESULT. *TR
SEVERE RUST OVER ENTIRE VEHICLE FRAME. BLACK PAINT FLAKING OFF EVERYWHERE AND SEVERE CORROSION WHERE WIRING HARNESSES GROUND TO FRAME. WAX COATING ALMOST DOES NOT EXIST. *JS
