2015 Ram 1500 Engine Problems

Imediately following z46 recall my vehicle lost all motive power on the interstate. No warning lights etc. Dealer who performed recall took no responsibility and explained my engine has seized.

On [XXX], I was driving my 2015 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel in [XXX] when all of the sudden it will not accelerate and a check engine lamp illuminated. It was a near-miss to getting into an accident because the truck drastically slowed-down and wouldn't continue to accelerate.

Engine coolant leak at the back of the engine, coming from the turbo coolant hose. My truck is in the year range for the recall, and is leaking bad. Recall said could cause fires.

Engine seized while driving at freeway speeds. Complete and permanent loss of power to the vehicle without warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms. Near collisions on freeway due to sudden loss of power and no power to maneuver the vehicle.

During the failure, the rear end of the vehicle began to fishtail, and the vehicle almost crashed into an oncoming semi-truck.

I believe that Ram and It’s parent company have intentionally not provided a recall fix for recall z46. If Ram refuses to provide a fix for the problem, and I’m forced to drive the vehicle that could stall and crash at any time is absolutely a safety hazard. I’ve contacted Ram cares and was told that if I’m not comfortable driving the vehicle, to just park it and wait for a fix.

I’ve experienced 3 separate incidents with this truck that resulted in the engine shutting down while in transit as follows: 12/6/2019: engine stalled when accelerating up a hill. Used momentum to pull mostly out of traffic lane. Towed to dealer where crankshaft positioning sensor was replaced under an extended warranty associated with the Ram Ecodiesel emissions related class action settlement.

Rapid loss of coolant over rear of engine and transmission bell housing. Danger of overheating and fire. The cause of the rapid coolant loss is a common well known problem - turbo coolant pipe!

I have flawlessly taken care of my Ram truck. My check engine light came on P0303, cylinder 3 misfire. I had to replace the camshaft and lifters on both sides of the engine due to a continuing design flaw in the Hemi engine.

The vehicle has 58,000 miles on it. The vehicles has developed a manifold exhaust leak on the passenger side causing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. Multiple online complaints have dubbed the issue the hemi tick.

1) engine 2) yes 3) No 4) Police and fire chief...waiting on Insurance 5) electronic throttle control error light - repaired 1/20/22 driving home from work (about 35 mile drive) and 2.5 miles from home - engine made a LOUD/LARGE pop and the engine died....drifted to side of road where the inside immediate filled with smoke.

Since purchasing the truck early this year, the engine has stalled while in motion 5 times. Each time I was able to shift into neutral and start the engine again, and stay in motion. I have taken the truck to 3 different mechanics and none are able to figure out the source of the stall.

Intake manifold melted and smoked. No flame seen but lots of smoke. Check engine light came on and service Electronic Throttle light came on.

The tone ring of my vehicle has failed causing the crank sensor to not work as designed. This has put my vehicle into a no start condition. I was lucky that this happened just after I returned home instead of while in the 5 lane traffic I was previously in.

My vehicle has suffered both major safety recalls, once where I was with my son after picking him up from school on a highway the egr canister spontaneously combusted causing major damage that fca said was not a manufacturer issue but a after my insurance repaired my vehicle they made the recall for the fires.

Dodge ram 1500 eco diesel 2015 loss of crankshaft position and ring tone wheel ! Had a recall w58 to fix crankshaft position which now damaged the ring sensor wheel! Recall was done march 9, 2021, april 5th truck stalled in driveway and would not start !

Recall vb1/NHTSA 19v-757 was issued on 10/24/2019. The document that ram sent to me said: "it is extremely important to take steps now to repair your vehicle to ensure the safety of you and your passengers." and it also said that potentially there could be an engine fire! On 6/15/2020 I spoke with [xxx] at in the service department of my dealer.

Ive received some recalls on my 2015 ram. The exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler an egr cooler with an internal crack will introduce pre-heated, vaporized coolant to the egr system while the engine is running.

The vehicle engine got on fire. The cause was a defect on diesel egr cooler.

Hello I just saw the recall for.the ram 1500 no :20v-475 which is a common failure part on those truck. Another major failure part on those truck is the main bearing on the crankshaft. When they fail the base of.the motor explode and is a total loss.

I almost got t boned/hit by a car when I pulled out into traffic and the truck lagged and finally picked up speed. Then my husband almost got us t boned/hit when he pulled out and the truck lagged again and would not pick up.

Vehicle has more than one recall. Only one recall is stated here.vehicle does not go over 40 MPH in motion. Vehicle has had two fires relevant to the recall stated while in motion.

On 10/31/2019 , fca issued recall vb1/NHTSA 19v-757 , for a possible fire hazzard on 2014- 2019 ram 1500 trucks with the ecodiesel engine. They did not have a fix for the problem , at that time. In early april of 2020, I recieved another recall notice, stating parts were now available , and to call my dealer , to schedule an appointment to have the recall completed.

I received a recall from fca recall vb1. I called the dealer on may 15th. They said to bring it in on monday may 18th.

NHTSA 19v-757 was issued for the referenced VIN 24oct19. I had an egr cooler failure on 27aug19 the egr cooler was replaced by grapevine dodge, chrysler, jeep ram with the attached part number before the recall was issued, and was the only part available at the time. I recieved notice of the recall 24oct19 and learned the redesigned part would not be available until april 2020.

This fire start on air intake, I lost the truck. Was driving fine and start blue smoke come of hood... This truck got a recall open, this recall is about fire on air intake.

There is a considerable difference in throttle response currently upon initially starting vehicle. It makes it quite difficult for the truck to accelerate as intended shortly after starting. There have been several incidents already in which I have had to stomp on the accelerator to avoid a collision as I was not expecting the truck to crawl along versus it's standard acceleration.

Had recall done on my ram 1500 ecodiesel truck now has no power shifting is erratic and sometimes delayed exhaust gases are now coming into cabin area and today the truck started popping back I have already taken truck back 3 times to the dealer and each time it is worse they also did some type of upgrade to the safety restraint system making this vehicle totally unsafe for highway use if the door is not closed right or if someone opens door the vehicle slams itself into park this vechile was a nice truck when I bought it now its a moving deathtrap chrysler needs to start some type of buy back program

I received a safety recall notice on 12/4/19 from fca us. It states there may be a problem with the egr cooler which may result in a fire and risk of injury/property damage. Per fcs recall "the remedy for this condition is not currently available" I don't like the idea or do I want to take a chance that this fire could happen to me and my family as I operate this vehicle.

After having the aem (approved emissions modification) done for my vehicle I have noticed an extreme lag in engine response. When pulling out into traffic from a stop it takes at least four seconds for the engine to respond as it used to before this update.

After aem update their is a throttle and turbo lag that has put me in harms way on numerous occasions. When making a left or right turn the engine fails to accelerate for some times up to a block making it impossible to merge safely with traffic this has resulted in numerous extremely close calls.

Recent ecm update by fca has detuned my truck. Loss of MPG, turbo lag, causing fires.

I just received the upgrade for the emissions recall on my 2015 ram ecodiesel. After reading about the complaints on forums I told myself to be honest with myself and keep a open mind after the work was completed. Well with certainty I can honestly say that all the complaints are legitimate.

After having the fca approved aem recall accomplished, my truck could no longer maintain speed up hill, wouldn't downshift properly, increased def usage, decreased fuel economy, extremely bad turbo lag (3-5 seconds on average and up to 10). Took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem as an intake manifold. They replaced the intake manifold and 2 injectors.

Ram flashed the computer on my truck to comply with the diesel emissions lawsuit. When I left the dealership after the flash and tried to enter the traffic lane the truck barely responded to the throttle. There was a huge delay and if not for a pull off area I would have been in an accident.

Had the a08 emissions software put on my truck last week and it lost most of its power. Now when I merge into traffic, I'm not able to accelerate safety .. There is a 5-6 second lag before I get any acceleration.

I had recall v08 and some other recalls performed at local ram dealer, the emissions modification has left my truck very sluggish (throttle unresponsive) when engine is cold. Twice since computer was flashed I have pulled out to cross traffic and truck would not accelerate as it did prior to flash. I was told the flash would not change performance and mileage but both have been affected.

2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel mileage: ~97,000 date of incident: 03/24/2019 complaint: engine fire.

Just had the ecodiesel emission software update completed and truck does not perform near where it had been. It was never a rocket but it was better than it is now. Sluggish from standstill, especially when cold.

This vehicle was associated with an emissions recall for its 3.0 liter ecodiesel engine. An aem 'flash' was done to the ecm module, and after that was performed (as part of the emissions recall) the engine's acceleration - previously very responsive - is dangerously lacking.

Was driving in town not towing or loaded, truck stumbled like out of fuel. I pulled over and raised the hood and saw smoke coming from passengers side under the engine cover at the egr, egr cooler. With a fire extinguisher handy I pointed it under the engine cover putting the fire out on that side but the diesel fuel from the burnt plastic hose spread to the other side catching that side on fire.

Several time while attempting to cross an intersection or just driving my truck has gone into limp mode leaving me without throttle control exposing me to possible collision .

Engine fire resulting in tow to dealership. Hauling 4000lb trlr @ 65mph, rumbling first then white smoke from rear of truck when engine died. Pulled off hwy and found small fire in center of manifold.

Drove less than a mile and truck shut down in middle of intersection while moving without warning. Took to shop and found out it had dropped a piston. Had engine pulled and another used (22000mile) engine put it.

Engine in the truck failed while driving down the highway, started loudly knocking and lost power, by the time I was able to get pulled over to the shoulder the cab of the truck filled with smoke, the smoke in the cab was thick enough that it was difficult to see. Eyes were watering and was difficult to breath, the smoke was coming out from under the hood of the truck.

On three separate occasions the truck engine died without warning. And I was unable to restart. The eco diesel engine in my truck on the third incident, totally seized up and I was told the engine was finished and the dealer would try to get me a new one.

I was driving down the interstate at 70 MPH when my engine shut down and I was forced to coast to a stop. I got my truck towed to a shop and further inspection revealed the engine rod bolts had backed out and allowed the rod to come off of the crankshaft. My truck only has 71,000 miles on it and after further research found this to be a fairly common issue in comparison to other engines.

Event: on september 7th at approximately 07:16pm my wife and I were driving on hwy 380 at milepost 44 in a remote part of new mexico between roswell and san antonio. Our speed was approximately 70 MPH. We had been traveling for 6 days and approximately 2000 miles between vancouver, wa and the location the engine failed.

While towing our camper the engine started on fire and totally burned along with our camper. It was a total destruction. We were not hurt.

I had decided to change my oil myself for the truck's second oil change because I wanted to use ams oil. I bought the filter from a local parts store because ams did not offer one. I began to drain the oil and then removed the old filter.

This truck has an exhaust smell in the cabin that my wife and I have been noticing gets more prevalent as the vehicle gets more miles. I drove the truck about 8 hrs thursday night march 27th and into the morning of friday march 28th . By the time I got to my destination I had an extreme headache, nausea, burning eyes nose and throat.

22V-406 high pressure fuel pump ("HPFP") safty recall not completed as of Oct 7th 2024 vehicle had unexpected loss of motive power 20V-475 loss of crankshaft position I have loss of crankshaft position resulted in engine stall, as well as loss of the ability to restart the engine 19V-757 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) I have Coolant loss, coolant color Turing brown/black, major build up of soot buildup in intake manifold and EGR.

Dodge sent us a safety recall in May 2021 for Crankshaft Positioner Sensor and Toner Wheel faulty part. We took it to our local dodge dealership, they ran a computer test and said "it's fine" and sent us on our way. The car involuntarily stalled a few times while driving it the past few years.

Vehicle would not restart after being shut off, thereby leaving me stranded on the side of the road in an area without cell phone reception or through-traffic, which LED to me having to walk 7 miles at night while in below-freezing temperatures to get help. The engine component that failed was the tone wheel (part of the crank position sensing system). It failed without any warning.

Vehicle driving at cruise speed (approximately 55 - 65 MPH) on hard surface road. No warning or indicators displayed or observed when suddenly the oil pressure bottoms out, engine loses compression and very loud metal clunking sound while it stalls out. Oil blown all over wheels and tires, making it hard to get to shoulder.

5.7L Hemi MDS lifter failure on a vehicle that has less than 96K miles. this is regarding the MDS system lifter and the cam shaft lobe slowly getting wore away until something fails. still available for inspection, I have not attempted to rebuild that cylinderhead bank yet.

catastrophic engine failure due to the failed high pressure fuel pump, last year march 2022 my truck started stalling then lost all power to the engine the truck would not start . I took the truck to my mechanic where he Found no crank signal while engine cranking and sounded to be out of time. he Tested fuel flow from lift pump and found it to be correct.

I bought my 2015 ram eco-diesel August 2019 I try to get the recall done once and they said they will not install it I waited about a year and called again and they made a appointment for me But the recall with the crankshaft sensor went bad and I had to have it towed they installed the EGR cooler and did a programming to the camshaft sensor now I’ve got the vehicle back it’s hard to start it has no power I don’t understand this I just want the truck to be right I haven’t drove The truck in over a year I just want them to make the truck right thank you

On october 1, 2020, my truck stalled while pulling out of my driveway and would not restart. A youtube video link is provided at the end of this description. The truck has been at the dealership ever since.

My ram 1500 truck hemi engine started with a ticking sound, then developed into a stalling issue and a check engine light display. The dodge ram dealer said it is an issue with the engine lifters and requires the dismantling of the entire engine to fix. The service writer advised me that this was a dangerous condition, and if not repaired the engine would blow up!

An issue was noticed with my 2015 ram ecodiesel because of a large amount oil was pouring out from under the truck while briefly stopped at a store. Once the issue was noticed, the engine was immediately stopped. Upon investigation, it was discovered that oil was pouring out of the coolant reservoir overflow and it was noticed that the reservoir was full of oil.

Upon pulling out of a parking lot and onto a divided highway attempting to accelerate into traffic the truck made noises and the engine died, leaving me to coast back into the next parking lot entrance while holding up traffic. The failure turned out to be the crank shaft position tone ring.

From a complete stop, depressing the accelerator pedal results in minimal acceleration resulting in numerous near misses when crossing or merging with traffic. This "dead pedal" condition lasts for several seconds (3-6) before then surging more than anticipated, often resulting in a brief loss of traction.

Since having the approved emissions modification done on my ram ecodiesel the truck will not accelerate properly until the engine seems to reach full operating temperature. When I attempt to pull onto another highway the engine bogs down and acts like it is going to stall. I believe this to be an unsafe driving condition.

Truck died (stopped) completely crossing a highway and couldn't move it from oncoming traffic without disabling electronic gear shift manually. No prior indication that there was an issue. It just stalled.

I have yet to have this issue, but by how it handles anymore it may be soon. But I've seen a lot of people having to replace their entire top end of their engines do to the mds system. The system will shut off some of the cylinders.

The egr has been a known issue for awhile now. The truck isn't the same as when I bought and I feel I purchased a lemon. It doesn't not meet my expectations and I feel I have lost thousands of dollars.

Post v08 recall update the truck experiences tremendous power lag from a stop causing an unsafe condition.this causes a issue merging with traffic safely. Not to mention fuel economy dropped 2-3 MPG.and peak power was also reduced.

I have a 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel truck. It recently had the upgrade to the epa approved engine and transmission program as a result of the lawsuit between the epa and fca, llc. This new program has induced a "dead zone" in my accelerator pedal that is, in my opinion, dangerous.

Fca recall, resulted in a very dangerous turbo lag which when driving the vehicle gives a 3-4 seconds delay when the accelerator is applied. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed from this. They knowingly caused this to their customers.

After receiving the approved emission modification recall update to my truck, the throttle response is very very slow and inconsistent. Predicting whether the truck will respond to your input each time you press the accelerator is impossible.

Exhaust fumes fill cabin: 2015 4x4 ecodiesel. When driving in slow traffic speeds of less than 30 MPH or stopped, the cabin becomes filled with exhaust fumes. This appears to be coming in through the ventilation system, as it is quite noticeable when it is blowing directly in your face.
