Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 430)
Power Train →5 issues
While driving on the interstate, your transmission suddenly stopped sending power to the wheels even though the engine was still running and revving normally. After restarting, the car moved but with significantly reduced power that didn't match the engine speed. Your check engine light came on, and a diagnostic revealed a faulty CVT stepper motor—a critical component that controls transmission pressure. The fix will require a complete transmission replacement, which is an expensive repair.

Your car unexpectedly enters a reduced-power 'limp mode' without warning lights or sounds to alert you. This happened multiple times, including once on a Colorado mountain highway where the car suddenly couldn't keep pace with traffic, creating a dangerous situation. You believe the transmission may be overheating even in mild 40-50 degree weather, and a Nissan dealer says you need a new transmission to fix it. The repair would likely involve a complete transmission replacement or rebuild.

While driving on the interstate, your car lost power and wouldn't move forward even though the engine was revving. After restarting, your car will drive but feels sluggish — the engine revs don't match the power going to the wheels. Your check engine light is on, and diagnostics point to a faulty stepper motor in your CVT transmission. The dealer indicates the entire transmission will need to be replaced to fix this issue.

Your Rogue is experiencing rough jerking or shaking between 1,500–2,000 RPMs, and the tachometer bounces during these episodes. At 90K miles, you requested a CVT fluid inspection, but the dealership recommended a full transmission replacement and cooler installation based on a P0744 code instead of investigating the issue first. According to an NHTSA service bulletin for your model year, there are diagnostic steps that should be performed before considering transmission replacement.

Your CVT transmission may suddenly lose power while driving on the highway in warm weather, causing the engine RPM to spike and preventing acceleration. Turning off the engine and restarting it will temporarily fix the problem, though this issue has recurred multiple times. Nissan installed a safety governor that triggers this limp mode, but you may not receive warning before it happens, creating a potentially dangerous situation on busy roads. The fix may involve transmission fluid service, software updates, or in some cases, transmission replacement or rebuild.

During a head-on collision, neither the driver nor passenger airbags deployed, even though no warning lights or messages appeared before the crash. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts but sustained significant injuries including whiplash, chest and abdominal bruising, and knee injuries confirmed by x-rays. The owner believes the airbags should have deployed and that their failure to do so worsened the injuries. A diagnostic inspection and potential airbag system replacement may be needed to determine why the system failed to activate.
