Your CVT transmission is slipping, which causes your Jeep to stumble and hesitate when you pull away from a stop, especially when turning the steering wheel. The problem feels like the wheels are skipping or not responding until the transmission shifts, then it goes away. Two shops have confirmed the CVT transmission is slipping and failing. This is happening with less than 150,000 miles on the vehicle, and the transmission fluid has been checked multiple times and is never low. The transmission may need to be serviced, rebuilt, or replaced to fix the slipping issue.

I SEEN THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE SAME MAKE,MODEL AND YEAR FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS...I JUST PURCHASE THE JEEP FROM A CAR LOT 2/2017 HAD A 30 DAY WARRANTY DURING THAT TIME THEY HAD TO WORK ON 6 TIMES JUST MADE MY SECOND PAYMENT AND I CAN'T ACCELERATE AFTER IT GETS UP TO 40 FIRST RPMS DIDN'T MOVE AT ALL THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED NOW RMP AND GOING UP AND WON'T GO DOWN....I FEEL THAT IT'S COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE CAUSE IF I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING SOMEONE FOLLOWING CLOSE BEHIND ME THAT COULD ENDED BADLY AND AFTER LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM LOOKS LIKE IT HAPPENS ALOT WITH THIS MODEL....

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE AND PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AT 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED AND A TUNE UP WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED TO SHIFT GEARS AND WAS JERKING AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON 6/30/13. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSORS AND THE O2 HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON 1/14/16 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,483.

THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN VERMONT IN TORRANCE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS ON. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE CURB. EARLIER THAT WEEK ON SUNDAY AUG 26, 2015 I HAD TO HAVE MY BATTERY JUMPED BY AAA. INSTEAD OF DRIVING AROUND I LET THE CAR RUN FOR HALF AN HOUR. I REVVED THE ENGINE AND THE RPM STOPPED WORKING ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. I STARTED THE CAR THE NEXT DAY AND IT HAD CLUNKING SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS WHICH DISAPPEARED UPON DRIVING FREEWAY SPEEDS. UPON TRYING TO PARK THE CAR AT WORK IT JERKED WHILE IN REVERSE. I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT FEW DAYS UNTIL IT FAILED ON AUG 31ST WHILE DRIVING HOME ON VERMONT. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SCOTT ROBINSON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP DEALERSHIP IN TORRANCE, CA. TESTING THERE REVEALED THE CAR NEEDED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION AT ONLY 70,000 MILES. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT DUE TO ANY FAULT OF MINE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A AAA APPROVED REPAIR FACILITY TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND AM WAITING TO SEE IF THE CAR REPAIRS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT'S FORTUNATE THE CAR DIDN'T FAIL ON THE FREEWAY.

THE CVT TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT COSTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEBITED BACK TO THE SUPPLIER AT 100%. I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. CHRYSLER WOULD NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIRS UNTIL WE AGREED TO SHARE IN THE COST. I FEEL THIS ITEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. ON NOV. 21 I TOOK MY JEEP COMPASS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE CAR WAS JERKING AND ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PRETTY MUCH GOING CRAZY. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC THAT THE DID ON THE PCM SHOWED THAT THERE WERE COMPUTER ERRORS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAD TO RESET THE CODES AND CLEAR ALL OF THE ERRORS AND THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. ON 12/11 THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE SAME ISSUED OCCURRED AGAIN. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATE THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT THEY HAD SPOKEN TO CHRYSLER AND THAT CHRYSLER STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE PROBLEMS GET WORST AT WHICH POINT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AND FIND THE SOLUTION. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE BASICALLY THEY WANT ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE AROUND IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND WAIT TIL THE PROBLEMS GETS WORST AND RISK OUR LIVES. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND BECOME ERRATIC. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY MANY LIVES WOULD BE AT RISK. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT IS GOING ON IN MY CAR. AS OF RIGHT NOW THERE HAS BEEN NO SOLUTION TO FIX MY VEHICLE. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25 MPH WITH MY 6 MONTH OLD CHILD IN THE VEHICLE, MY CAR LOST ALL POWER. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON (FLASHING) AND SO DID THE SLIDE PROTECTION LIGHT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 20MPH AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE RAN VERY ROUGH LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE. LUCKILY I PUTTERED HOME AND MY CHILD WAS SAFE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND AFTER ALMOST 5 DAYS OF TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PCM NEEDED REPLACED. THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE "VERY CONFIDENT" THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. WELL TODAY, THEY PCM WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP STILL CANNOT PINPOINT THE PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, I WAS SO SCARED AS I ALSMOT GOT INTO A WRECK WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. MY 6 MONTH OLD CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN HURT, OR WORSE. EVEN IF THIS CAR GET FIXED, I WILL BE SO APPREHENSIVE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE IN IT WITH MY CHILD FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL GIVE OUT AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL IN MY OPINION. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS A REPAIR THAT I, OR OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS, SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AS 1. IT IS ALL TOO COMMON AND 2. THE PCM/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT A COMPONENT THAT WEARS OUT WITH MILEAGE OR USAGE. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING ON BEHALF OF CHRYSLER/JEEP. DURING HIGH SPEED DRIVING, ON HOT DAYS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSXALE OIL BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, AND THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN SLIGHTLY UNTIL THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE COOLED DOWN ENOUGH TO ALLOW A RETURN TO THE REQUESTED SPEED. MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS BEGAN TO MAKE CREAKING NOISES UNDER THE HOOD AT ABOUT 58,000 MILES AND THEN IT QUICKLY GREW LOUDER AND MORE OMNIOUS SOUNDING AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES WHEN GOING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND ON UNEVEN GROUND. I WORK ON THE ROAD AND SO THE MILES PILE UP QUICKLY. HOWEVER, I LIVE IN THE CITY AND DO NOT TAKE MY CAR OFF ROAD. I ASSUMED THE NOISE WAS MY SWAY BAR - AGAIN - AS DID MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME TO GET IT TO HIM WHEN IT WAS CONVENIENT. IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT THE NOISE WAS LIKELY MORE THAN THE SWAY BAR AND I DROPPED IT OFF TO MY MECHANIC. HE DIAGNOSED IT AS NEEDING NEW BALL JOINTS AND SOME TIRE RODS. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR A RECALL OR KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE IS A MULTITUDE OF OTHER COMPASS OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BALL JOINTS REPLACED AT LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. THAT IS NOT SATISFACTORY LONGEVITY FOR BALL JOINTS. THIS IS A $900 REPAIR THAT SHOULD NOT BE PAID BY THE CONSUMER. A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE FOR THIS ISSUE. A VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE TO THOSE WITHIN IT AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. *TR

CVT TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING NOISE AND NOT SHIFTING AT 42000 MILES. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT SINCE JEEP/DODGE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON CVT TRANSMISSIONS IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. DUE TO ISSUES WITH JEEP/DODGE A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE BEEN ON BACKORDER FOR A MINIMUM OF 30 DAYS. I WAS NOT ABLE TO WAIT THAT LONG SO I FOUND A LOW MILEAGE TRANSMISSION IN A SALVAGE YARD AND HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSTALL IT. BECAUSE I PURCHASED MY JEEP APPROX. 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS INITIATED I HAD TO BEAR THE ENTIRE COST. *TR

WAS DROPPING DAUGHTER OFF AT THE BUS STOP WHEN FIRST NOTICED THAT SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR WAS DIFFICULT. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 1ST OR 2ND GEAR, WAITED AND PUMPED THE CLUTCH AND IT WENT IN. NEXT DAY WAS LEAVING HOME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AFTER I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, AND RETURNED HOME AFTER THE CAR FINALLY WENT INTO GEAR. MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY. OUR 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4 MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY HAD 38,121 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BY SEVERAL MECHANICS THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A CAR THIS NEW WITH SO FEW MILES. ALL OF THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND OUR CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NINE DAYS. I HAVE A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. AND FOR THE PAST YEAR I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING WHEN I AM DECELERATING OR STALLING WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP. SOME TIMES THE VEHICLE JERKS SO BAD THAT MY SEAT BELT LOCKS UP. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT THAT THE TECH'S ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE NEW TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT IT CLICKS WHEN I PUT IT ON BUT THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL COME RIGHT OFF. I HAD A SCREW STUCK IN MY FRONT TIRE TODAY AND COULD NOT GET THE FRONT TIRE OFF WHEN WE FINALLY GOT IT OFF WE FIGURED OUT WHY IT WOULD NOT COME OFF THERE IS RUST.
