WHEN PUTTING FUEL IN THE GAS TANK, THE PUMP KICKS OFF AND GAS SPLASHES OUT LIKE THE TANK IS FULL. WE HAVE TO HOLD THE NOZZLE AND LET IT TRICKLE IN THE GAS FOR QUITE SOMETIME. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW WE HOLD THE GAS NOZZLE OR WHAT ANGLE, IT SIMPLY SHUTS OFF THE PUMP LIKE ITS FULL, AND I'M DEALING WITH SPILT GAS ON ME AND THE GROUND! I CANNOT FILL MY TANK! AFTER SPEAKING WITH A JEEP DEALERSHIP, THEY VERIFIED IT DOES HAPPEN TO THE COMPASSES. WHAT! THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2012, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM REQUESTING A FULL REFUND FOR GETTING MINE FIXED, FOR SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE, I NEED GAS AND IT ALAS IT DIDN'T ALLOW FOR A FILL UP OF GAS. *TR
FILL UP WITH GAS, GET A COUPLE BLOCKS DOWN THE ROAD AND VEHICLE STALLS, TRY RESTARTING AND IT HESITATES
IN MY FAMILY WE OWN A 2007 JEEP COMPASS WHICH WE ARE PLEASED TO OWN. HOWEVER, LAST YEAR (2018) WE FOUND THAT IT WAS SPITTING GASOLINE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AFTER WE FINISHED PUMPING IT. IT LOOKED LIKE THE CAR WAS PUMPING THE GAS BACK TO US WITHOUT WE EVEN TURNING THE CAR ON. AT THE BEGINNING I COULD NOT PUMP ENOUGH GASOLINE INTO THE FUEL TANK. IT STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY AND SPIT THE FUEL OUT, WITH ENOUGH FORCE AND QUANTITY TO FILL THE CAP COMPARTMENT AND NOTABLY REACHING THE FLOOR. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THREE FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY CHANGED A COUPLE OF PARTS AND PARTIALLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM IN FEBRUARY 2019. PARTIALLY BECAUSE WHEN WE FILLED THE TANK FULL, IT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO TURN OFF WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF FUELING. HOWEVER, IN JUNE 2019, WE FOUND THAT THE CAR WAS AGAIN SPITTING GAS OUT WHEN WE FILL THE TANK TO FULL. AGAIN, WITH ENOUGH FORCE AND QUANTITY TO FILL THE CAP COMPARTMENT AND NOTABLY REACHING THE FLOOR. THEREFORE, WE DECIDED TO MAKE THIS SAFETY COMPLAIN BECAUSE NOT ONLY MY FAMILY IS IN HIGH DANGER BUT ALSO EVERY PERSON AT A GAS STATION WHERE WE FILL WITH GASOLINE. MOREOVER, IT IS CONCERNING THAT A CAR DEVELOPS THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM BY ITSELF AND JEEP DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE A DEFINED SOLUTION FOR THIS MATTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS. AFTER THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED EACH TIME THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE HAD TO BE RESTARTED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK WITH FUEL, THE JEEP WILL BEGIN TO STUTTER AND THE ENGINE WILL DIE. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY BUT OTHER TIMES IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES AND WILL HAPPEN WHILE IN TRAFFIC. AFTER THE INTIAL STUTTERING AND DYING, THE CAR RUNS FINE AFTER RESTARTING BUT THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY FUEL FILL-UP.
CAR STALLS A FEW TIMES AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK. THEN IT RUNS FINE. HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER YOU LEAVE GAS STATION, IN MOTION OR AT IDLE .
I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER USED AND THE FUEL MILEAGE WAS POOR. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR TO MULTIPLE SHOPS AND EVEN A DODGE DEALER WHO DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. I FOUND A NEW GARAGE THAT WAS VERY HONEST AND THEY FOUND THAT THE VALVE INSIDE THE GAS TANK THAT CONTROLS WHERE THE FUEL GETS TRANSFERRED TO WAS FAULTY. THIS CAUSED GAS TO BE SENT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND VAPORS TO BE SENT TO THE ENGINE CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL WITHIN A 1/8 A 1/2 OF A MILE AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THE CAR WOULD BASICALLY SHUT DOWN AND STALL OUT CAUSING CONTROL ISSUES. THIS ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE CONVERTERS AND ALSO THE COAL FILTER ON THE GAS TANK. IT HAS TAKEN MANY DEALERS TO FIND ONE THAT COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND AFTER ABOUT $3000 IN REPAIRS IT IS FINALLY BEING FIXED. THIS FAULT IN THE VALVE COULD CAUSE A FIRE WITH HEAT IN THE CONVERTER AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF INFORMATION ONLINE WITH OTHER DODGE COMPASS CUSTOMERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT, IS TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. THE OTHER OPTION IS TO NEVER FILL UP YOUR GAS TANK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO.
THERE'S A FUEL ISSUE, AS YOU TOP OFF THE GAS DRIVE IT A HALF A MILE THE CAR JERKS AND SHUTS OFF STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP, AFTER A FEW TIMES OF IT HAPPENING AFTER FUELING THE CAR UP. ITS DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE. LOOKED IT UP AND A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WITH MY MODEL HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND IT HAS TO DUE WITH FUEL GETTING IN THE EVAP CHAMBER WHICH REQUIRES A FULL TANK REPLACEMENT REPORTED FROM MULTIPLE OWNERS OF MY MODEL. WHICH IS AN EMISSIONS AND SAFETY ISSUE. ITS IN MOTION LESS THAN A MILE AFTER FUELING COMPLETELY WHEN IT JERKS THEN STALLS.
FUEL TANK--JEEP DEALER SAYS MY ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE TANK ONLY ALLOWS A TINY AMOUNT OF FUEL TO GO IN WHEN PUMPING GAS. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME BEING A JEEP OWNER AND IT SEEMS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE TO REPLACE SUCH A MAJOR PART.
CAR STALLS AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK...APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IS HAPPENING TO MY DAUGHTERS CAR AND SHE WAS ALMOST IN A BAD ACCIDENT DUE TO THE CAR STALLING WHEN PULLING OUT OF A WAWA GAS STATION. THERE IS APPARENTLY A NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK DUE TO A VAPOR LOCK ISSUE WHICH CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF AND IS HAPPENING IN MORE THEN ONE TYPE OF THEIR VEHICLES... THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT IF NOT RECALLED AND THE COMPANY IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE WILL LEAD TO DEATH.

WHEN YOU FEEL THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE WILL CUT OUT AND STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AFTER READING ON SEVERAL WEB SITES THIS IS NOT A ISOLATED INCIDENT THIS IS A MAJORITY INCIDENT. IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER YOU FILL THE TANK FULL IT WILL STOP WITH NO WARNING AND MESA FOR 10 TO 15 SECONDS BEFORE IT'LL RESTART AGAIN. IF THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS SOMEBODY'S GOING TO GET KILLED.

AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK, VEHICLE, RUNS ROUGH/ STALLS PULING INTO TRAFFIC . PROBLEM DISSIPATES AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP WHERE THE ISSUE REPEATS. WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK ON MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS IT STALLS SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW MILES. I'VE READ THE BLOGS ON THE WEB AND IT APPEARS TO BE A FAILURE OF THE FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VAVLE. THE ONLY FIX APPARENTLY IS TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1,2000. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND IT HAS STOPPED ON HER IN TRAFFIC TWICE AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK. LUCKILY SHE ESCAPED BEING HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR. THIS IS SO WRONG! THIS IS A DEFECT AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ESTABLISHED TO FIX THIS ISSUE.
ISSUES WITH CAR STALLING/SHUTTING OFF AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL. THIS OFTEN HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS IDLE OR WHILE IN DRIVE. VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY ON BUSY HIGHWAYS. HAS CAUSED NEAR ACCIDENTS ON MANY OCCASIONS. ISSUE OCCURRED AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK COMPLETELY BUT THEN HAPPENED AFTER EVERY FILL UP, REGARDLESS OF AMOUNT. CAR ALSO TAKES LONGER TO FILL UP AS GAS PUMP AT GAS STATION WOULD CLICK OFF WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FILL CAR.
THE VEHICLE HAS A PURGE VALVE OR OTHER ISSUE THAT IS VERY COMMON THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO SHUT OFF AFTER FILLING UP GAS. THIS LEADS TO VEHICLES SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, LOSING CONTROL OF STEERING AND ACCELERATION AS WELL AS OTHER POWERED THINGS, SINCE THE CAR SHUTS OFF.
AFTER FUELING THE VEHICLE FROM ANY LEVEL TO FULL THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN AT IDLE WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF RUN-TIME. IT WILL STALL AT LEAST TWO MORE TIMES AND THEN RUN FINE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TANK. ON EXAM BY OUR MECHANIC IT APPEARS TO BE CAUSED BY THE ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE GAS TANK WHICH REQUIRES COMPLETE TANK REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE VALVE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND COULD CAUSE FUEL TO SPILL IN EVENT OF A ROLL OVER. IT ALSO IS A SAFETY ISSUE FROM STALLING IN TRAFFIC CAUSING A ROAD HAZARD.
HAVING PROBLEMS WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE. THE PUMP CONSTANTLY CUTS OUT AND ONCE YOU DO GET GAS IN THE TANK AFTER FILLING UP, THE CAR HESITATES AND ACTUALLY STALLS OUT AS YOU DRIVE - . HAS STALLED 3 TIMES IN 1 DAY AND SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. THE FUELING ISSUES HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT NOW THE STALLING AND HESITATION OF MOTOR ISSUE IS SAFETY ISSUE.
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK THIS VEHICLE WILL STALL. THIS HAPPENS ROUTINELY FOLLOWING A FUEL TANK FILL-UP AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE ARE MANY CONCERNS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB OF JEEP COMPASS AND PATRIOT OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITHOUT RESOLVE. MANY PEOPLE ARE SUGGESTING THAT THE GAS TANK, CHARCOAL FILTER AND ROLL-OVER VALVE NEED TO BE REPLACED TO RESOLVE, WHICH COMES AT A PRICE OF $2000+ PER VEHICLE. THIS NOTIFICATION OF A PROBLEM IS PROACTIVE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED PRIOR TO BECOMING REACTIVE TO INJURIES OR FATALITIES.

ALSO FOR THE RECORD I AM NOT OVERFILLING MY GAS TANK, AT LEAST THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON THE PUMP SEEMS TO STOP WHEN IT SHOULD. IF I FILL THE TANK 1-2 GALLONS LESS THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN. WHEN THE CAR DIES I LOOSE COMPLETE CONTROL OF ALL ELECTRONICS AND POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES ON CITY STREETS, PULLING INTO A HIGHWAY FROM LEAVING A GAS STATION, STATIONARY, AND IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENS EVERY FILL UP.

THE 2007 JEEP COMPASS PURCHASED AS MY DAUGHTERS FIRST CAR HAS EXPERIENCED STALLING ISSUES UPON REFUELING FROM DAY ONE. THE CAR WAS SERVICED BY THE SELLING DEALERSHIP, BRANDON HONDA, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND NO REPAIR WAS DEEMED NECESSARY. I WAS ADVISED THE CAR WAS ALSO SENT TO A NEIGHBORING JEEP DEALER AND THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT JEEP DEALER, JERRY ULM AND WAS ADVISED THE ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED WITH THE FIRST CODE RETURNED. THE CANISTER AND SOLENOID WAS REPLACED IN 5/16 AND THE CAR DID NOT STALL AGAIN UNTIL DECEMBER. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO UPON REFUELING THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. THE CAR HAS STALLED THREE MORE TIMES AND IS SCHEDULED TO BE SERVICED AT JERRY ULM AGAIN TOMORROW. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. MY CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF THIS CAR IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH DUE TO THE REOCCURRENCE AND NO WARNING OF THE STALL- THE CAR JUST SHUTS DOWN SILENTLY. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME.

WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN JANUARY 2008. IT HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. THE JEEP HAS BEEN A VERY RELIABLE VEHICLE, UNTIL RECENTLY. WITHIN THE PAST MONTH, IT HAS STALLED ON US FIVE TIMES (TWICE ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY), NO MALFUNCTION LIGHT. WHEN IT STALLS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. ALSO, WHEN REFUELING THE TANK, THE PUMP SHUT OFFS AFTER EVERY $0.10-$0.20 WORTH OF GAS. REFUELING THE TANK TAKES APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES. ORIGINALLY, WE BELIEVED IT WAS THE PUMPS AT A CERTAIN GAS STATION; HOWEVER, TRIPS TO NUMEROUS GAS STATIONS RESULTED IN THE SAME ISSUE. THE JEEP STALLS ONLY AFTER REFUELING. I BEGAN RESEARCHING ONLINE, AND I THOUGHT THE ISSUE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A CLOGGED EVAP SYSTEM. HOWEVER, WE BROUGHT IT TO OUR MECHANICS; UNFORTUNATELY, IT NEEDS A NEW FUEL TANK. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE TOTALS $1,131.07 FOR PARTS, LABOR, AND TAXES. OUR MECHANICS, THOUGHT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THE FUEL TANK, OR POSSIBLY AN EXTENDED MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, THERE WASN'T. I BEGAN RESEARCHING THE AFOREMENTIONED FUEL TANK ISSUE, I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUES FROM JEEP OWNERS, MYSELF INCLUDED. WHY HAS FCA US, LLC "CHRYSLER" NOT ISSUED A RECALL? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE INJURED OR WORSE FOR CHRYSLER TO TAKE NOTICE? THIS IS THE SAME COMPLAINT THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE REPORT ABOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. MY 2007 JEEP COMPASS WILL BEGIN TO SPUTTER AND EVENTUALLY SHUT-OFF AFTER EVERY FILL UP WITH GAS. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE FUEL VAPORIZER AND OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE GAS TANK. IF YOU FILL THE GAS TANK UP ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP WITH GAS, IT WILL CAUSE THIS FAILURE OF ROUGH IDLING AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF EVERY TIME, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVE BECAUSE IT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRANSMISSION ALSO. CHRYSLER HAS FIXED THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE IN SEVERAL OTHER MAKES AND MODELS OF THEIR VEHICLES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED AROUND THIS SAME YEAR. BUT, THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX THIS SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP COMPASS YET. AT THIS POINT, I'M CONTEMPLATING CONTACTING MY LAWYER TO SEE IF THIS CAN BE BETTER BROUGHT TO CHRYSLER'S ATTENTION, AS I'M CERTAIN THAT EVERYONE THAT HAS A JEEP COMPASS NEAR 2007-2009 YEAR MODEL IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE'S WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. MY SUGGESTION TO ANYONE READING THIS, IS TO NOT FILL THE GAS TANK ALL THE WAY UP WHILE PUMPING GAS. DO NOT "TOP OFF THE GAS." THIS IS A TEMPORARY FIX TO THE ISSUE, AS IT ALLOWS GAS VAPORS TO EXPEL PROPERLY. ALSO, IF THE TANK WAS FILLED TOO MUCH AT THIS GAS STATION (TOPPED OFF), AND THIS STUTTERING DOES OCCUR, IT CAN HELP TO STOP AND REMOVE THE GAS CAP FOR A SHORT WHILE UNTIL THE GAS HAS BEEN RAN DOWN IN THE TANK ENOUGH.

GAS TANK WILL NOT TAKE FUEL. WHEN FILLING IT WILL ONLY TAKE ABOUT 0.3 GALLONS BEFORE STOPPING OR SPRAYING OUT. MECHANIC SAID IT MIGHT BE VENTILATION SYSTEM.
WHEN FUELING, THE NOZZLE FROM THE GAS PUMP IMMEDIATELY SHUTS OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. IT TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT TO FUEL UP WITHOUT FUEL SPLASHING OUT AND OVERFLOWING ON THE CAR AND PAVEMENT. I HAVE USED DIFFERENT FUEL STATIONS, CHANGED THE ANGLE OF THE NOZZLE, FUELED UP AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES, CHANGED THE EVAP CANISTER BUT STILL THE PROBLEM EXISTS. AFTER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY JEEP OWNER THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. IT IS THE ONE-WAY ROLLOVER VALVE THAT IS LOCATED IN THE GASTANK. ALSO OTHER CARS MADE FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PERILOUS PROBLEM. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT TO GET A RECALL FOR MY CAR AND ANY OTHER JEEPS THAT HAVE THE SAME FAULTY ONE-WAY VALVE IN THE GAS TANK.
AFTER FILLING UP VEHICLE IT STALLS OUT WITHIN TWO MILES IT HAPPENS AFTER EVERY FILL UP.
EVERY TIME FOR THE LAST 10 FILL UPS THE CAR WILL STALL AND FINALLY QUIT, USUALLY IN TRAFFIC. IT WILL START RIGHT BACK BUT GOING A FEW YARDS IT STARTS STALLING AGAIN. I KEEP IT FROM DIEING COMPLETELY BY PUTTING IT IN NEUTUAL AND GIVING IT GAS LIKE AT A RED LIGHT. ALSO SOMETIMES ITS HARD PUTTING GAS IN NO MATTER HOW MUCH IS IN THE TANK. IT FILLS LIKE ITS FULL EVEN THOUGH IT MAY JUST HAVE A QUARTER TANK, HALF TANK, ETC.
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK VIA GAS PUMP AUTO SHUT OFF, THE CAR WILL STALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED THE LAST TWO FILL UPS. THE CAR HAS 92389 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST TIME, IT STALLED AFTER STARTING THEN AGAIN AFTER ENTERING HIGHWAY GOING UP HILL WITH LOADED DUMP TRUCK RIGHT BEHIND ME. HE BARELY MISSED HITTING ME FROM BEHIND. PLUS CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING. 2ND TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS NEXT TANK FILL UP AND STALLED BEFORE LEAVING GAS STATION. AFRAID TO DRIVE AND HAVE PARKED CAR. ROLL OVER VALVE IS NOT WORKING (STUCK OPEN?). IF CAR WAS IN ROLL OVER ACCIDENT, FIRE COULD RESULT FROM SPILLING FUEL. AFRAID WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF PULLING ONTO HIGHWAY FROM RAMP AND STALL IN FRONT OF 18 WHEELER.
SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STALLS AND UPON RESTART RUNS ROUGH FOR SHORT TIME. WE HAD ONE INCIDENT WHERE A FUEL LEAK DEVELOPED AFTER REFUELING. THE STALLING ISSUE HAS ALMOST CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO BE STRUCK AND CLEARLY HAS CAUSED A CONTROL ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLES ENGINE LOSES POWER SHUTS DOWN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED AND NO CODES WERE TRIGGERED OR STORED. THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T SEEM INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING MY ISSUE.

STALLS OR HESITATES AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ONCE GAS LEVEL GOES DOWN A LITTLE THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS. FAULTY VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. CAR STALLS AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. STARTS BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM BUT IS DANGEROUS IF THIS HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
AFTER THE CAR IS REFUELED, THE ENGINE WILL STALL OUT WHILE IT IS STATIONARY. IT THEN STALLS OUT A SECOND TIME AFTER I DRIVE A LITTLE WHILE I AM STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STATIONARY. I DO NOTHING SPECIAL WHILE FILLING IT UP BESIDES LETTING THE PUMP STOP IT WHEN IT IS FULL. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED EVERY TIME AFTER I FILL UP SINCE ABOUT 125,000 MILES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP MY GAS TANK TO FULL AND LEAVE THE GAS STATION IT STALLS WHILE DRIVING. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT GAS STATION OR GRADE OF GAS, SAME RESULT. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY.
I BOUGHT A USED 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4 FOR MY SON IN APRIL 2015. HE IS JUST LEARNING TO DRIVE. AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK AND PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION THE CAR SLOWED TO AN IDLE, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, AND THE CAR STALLED. IT TURNED BACK ON BUT COULD HARDLY MAKE A TURN ONTO THE STREET WITHOUT ALMOST STALLING AGAIN. ONCE IT STARTED GOING A FEW MILES UP THE ROAD IT DID NOT STALL. THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME WE FILLED THE TANK. WE CANNOT FILL THE TANK. I AM VERY SCARED TO LET AN ALMOST 16 YEAR OLD DRIVE A CAR THAT IS SO DANGEROUS AND FEAR HE MAY GET KILLED WHEN THE CAR STALLS. HE WILL BE DRIVING THIS CAR TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND WITH WINTER APPROACHING QUICKLY I WILL BE PRAYING. HE KNOWS NOT TO FILL IT ALL THE WAY UP BUT I DON'T FEEL THIS SHOULD BE THE CASE FOR ANYONE. I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THIS ISSUE IS NOT COVERED. I ALSO MENTIONED THIS ISSUE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN.

MY MECHANIC SAYS THE ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED SINCE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER JEEP COMPASS AND PATRIOT VEHICLES. MY MECHANIC MUST REPLACE THE GAS TANK AS THE ROLLOVER VALVE CANNOT BE REPLACED TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH BOTH OF THESE VEHICLES AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. USUALLY THE CAR WILL STALL SHORTLY AFTER YOU DRIVE AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION AND SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A STOP. THE CAR WILL START UP AGAIN BUT MAY STALL AGAIN IF YOU ONLY TRAVEL A SHORT DISTANCE AND SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE NEXT TIME YOU DRIVE, THE CAR IS USUALLY OK AND HAS NO FURTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL THE TANK IS FILLED AGAIN. AFTER READING SEVERAL INTERNET FORUMS, THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON TO CHRYSLER VEHICLES. THE PROBLEM IS THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VALVE FAILS AND ALLOWS LIQUID INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER/EMISSIONS SYSTEM. LIQUID FUEL THEN GETS SENT INTO THE MANIFOLD INTAKE BY MISTAKE WHICH STALLS THE CAR OUT. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF THE CAR STALLS WHILE YOU ARE TURNING INTO TRAFFIC AND IT ALSO CAUSES YOU TO LOSE STEERING AND BRAKING POWER. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW BY CHRYSLER AND THE ONLY FIX IS TO HAVE A WHOLE NEW GAS TANK INSTALLED BECAUSE THERE ISN'T A WAY TO JUST REPLACE JUST THE FAULTY VALVE. IT IS BUILT IN TO THE TANK. *TR

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP, THEY INVESTIGATED THE CAUSE OF THE ALARM, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CODE HAD TO DO WITH THE EVAPORATOR SYSTEM, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, WHICH I THINK MONITORS RETURN VAPORS AND HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH EMISSION CONTROLS. THEY DISCOVERED, AFTER TRACING THE CAUSE OF THE AIR LEAKAGE, THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE, WHICH IS PLASTIC, WAS BURNT AND DISTENDED DUE TO AN OVERHEATING FUEL PUMP. THIS APPARATUS IS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH A "TRAP DOOR" BENEATH THE SECOND SEATS. VAPOR WAS BEING EMITTED AT THAT POINT. THERE WAS NEVER ANY WARNING OR SOUNDS TO INDICATE THE FUEL PUMP WAS OVERHEATING. THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL MODULE ARE BEING REPLACED AND THE TECHNICIANS THINK THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY I WAS LUCKY THAT NO VAPORS IGNITED BECAUSE THE GAS TANK PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BLOWN UP. BY GOING ON THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS HAVE ALSO HAD THIS CONDITION HAPPEN TO THEM. *TR

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE GAS TANK AT ANY COMMERCIAL GAS STATION THE PUMP NOZZLE SHUTS OFF IMMEDIATELY. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL THE GAS TANK SINCE ONLY A FEW OUNCES OF FUEL IS RELEASED BEFORE THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. SOMETIMES JUST BEFORE THE NOZZLE SHUTS, GAS AND BUBBLES ARE RELEASED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE WORTHLESS FOR A TRADE -IN OR A PERSONAL SALE. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THE GAS TANK AND FILLER TUBE MUST BE REPLACED. THE COST IS AROUND $500. PLUS LABOR. THE FLAP VALVE CAN'T BE REPAIRED SINCE IT'S CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER AND WILL SHOW A SAFETY WARNING STATING THAT THE ROLL OVER SAFETY FEATURE IS DISABLED. THERE ARE OTHER MODEL YEARS OF JEEPS THAT HAD A RECALL AND THIS 2007 MODEL SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR

MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED FROM A WELL KNOW DODGE DEALERSHIP IN CT. ASIDE FROM THE TERRIBLE AND FAULTY FIRESTONE TIRES, THE COMPASS HAS BEEN RELIABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED WITH REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES WHEN NEEDED. JUST LAST WEEK THE RADIO AND ELECTRONICS NEEDED TO BE RESET, BUT THE VEHICLE STARTED JUST FINE. THE NEXT MORNING IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL. THE ENGINE CRANKED OVER AND OVER BUT WOULD NOT START. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START, THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN NC, WHERE WE MOVED TO. THEY LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE FOR $86.00 AND WERE NOT ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE US WITH A LOANER CAR. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE JEEP ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT SO WE WERE SHOCKED. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED US ALMOST $750.00 TO REPLACE IT! I HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED GARAGE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. THE MECHANIC PULLED THE FUEL PUMP OUT AND TOLD ME THE SWITCH ON THE PUMP WAS MELTED! I'M NOT A MECHANIC BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THAT IS NOT SAFE, (HAVING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM INSIDE THE FUEL TANK). HE ALSO TOLD ME THE PUMP WAS ON NATIONAL BACK-ORDER. I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY JEEP FORUMS AND IT SEEMS I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T BELIEVE CONSUMERS SHOULD DISH OUT $22,000 FOR A NEW VEHICLE AND THEN BE SOL WHEN IT COMES TO REPLACING FAULTY PARTS LIKE THIS FUEL PUMP, JUST BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I AM PUSHING TO SEE THIS PROBLEM TURN INTO A RECALL, BECAUSE I WOULD HATE TO BE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY AND HAVE THE FUEL PUMP SHORT OUT AGAIN CAUSING US TOO CRASH. THE GAS TANK GAUGE STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IT WILL READ EMPTY WHEN FULL & STARTED TO GO UP DESPITE BEING LOW. HAVE TO USE TRIP MILEAGE TO DETERMINE WHEN TO FILL UP NOT BEST METHOD. BUT GAUGE IS NOT ACCURATE OR RELIABLE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BUT I SEE THIS IS A RELATIVELY COMMON PROBLEM & HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN.
ON SEPTEMBER 20 2007, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, I WHEN I CAME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CHECK OIL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ALSO, I DID NOT HAVE THE A\C ON. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE WITH NO PROBLEM. AND WHILE I MADE A FULL STOP FEW TIMES, I NOTICED THAT THE RPM WAS DROPPING LITTLE BY LITTLE. I CALLED JEEP TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, I WENT ON SEPTEMPER 24,2007 TO THE DEALER TO HAVE MY CAR CHECK. I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR, THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE ONLY THING THAT THEY MENTIONED WAS THAT THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. AFTER I TOOK MY CAR, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE RPM OF THE CAR DROPS AND THE ENGINE SEEMS THAT IT WANTS TO START AND THEN IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL. IT IS A VERY STRANGE BEHAVIOR BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DOING THAT BEFORE. I TRIED TO USE A DIFFERENT GAS BRAND FEW TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUE TO OCCUR. IT IS NOT VERY OFTEN, BUT RECENTLY IT IS DOING THAT A LITTLE MORE OFTEN. *TR
