I purchased a 2017 certified pre-owned Jeep Cherokee from a Jeep dealership in March 2020.

My dashboard , screen caught fire from the wiring

The Electronic Parking Brake turned on after putting vehicle in PARK. Could this brake have been applied while driving? If so, there could have been multiple fatalities or serious injuries.

There was already a recall on the make and model of my car, Jeep Cherokee Latitude; however, when I search by VIN it shows zero unrepaired recalls. So if the problem is fixed (no one even attempted to fix my car), why does my car still shut off in the middle of driving? When it shuts off I can’t turn the wheel, Can’t put it in park, and the gas and brakes/ABS don’t work.

Issue: Burning smell in vehicle. Diagnosis: driver side visor wiring burned, potential fire hazard. Notes: We noticed a burning plastic smell several times in vehicle cabin.

in august 2021 my got a service parking brake warning. took to dealership to make a appointment got more warning on the drive there for traction control,brake warning and check engine. got a appointment for later in week.

When driving and making a right or left turn, an error message pops up on the screen stating can not switch gears while in drive, then the engine shuts off, it has happened to me 6+ times in the last month, it has happened in the middle of a left turn in a busy intersection 3 times and almost caused an accident.

I've had the service shifter come up on my dashboard, 2 times this year. 1st happened in january 2020, and on september 9,2020. And then the shifter lights up red on every gear.

When driving, an error message popped up and said "service shifter". On the gear shift, all of the lights lit up red (parking, neutral, 1st, 2nd, drive, and reverse). I immediately pulled over.

The service shifter warning appeared and all lights on the prndm turned red. Vehicle eventually started to stall out and lead to a misfire from cylinder 2

I brought a 2016 jeep cherokee in july 2017. I was having issues with the car the first month I brought it. Vehicle loses power while driving, engine shuts down, steering locks and the dash lights up with a message that says put vehicle and "park" and then select desired gear.this issues has happened twice once I was at an intersection and the second time I was on the freeway.

At 38,000 miles on our new jeep, the spark plugs are grounding out for some unexplained reason and burning a hole in the bottom of the coil packs boot. Causing the plug and coil packs to burn up. I'm being told it's a manufactures part defect that jeep hasn't recognized yet.

Car caught on fire while driving. Entire front end was in flames and burned completely.

Vehicle stalls without warning

I have had my car almost three years, I have 31,800 miles on it. I'm getting "service shifter" error periodically when starting my car. I turn my car off and turn it back on and it goes off.

I purchased my vehicle on july 27th paying 28,000 dollars for it. I test drive it and everything was fine. Two days later my 'service shifter' light cane on and everything by my shifter was illuminated.

I left work today at 4pm made a right hand turn onto a bridge and I noticed I couldn't accelerate and two engine lights came on the dash and my car completely turned off on me and I broke down. I was stuck on a high trafficking area on a bridge when this happened. I've had my jeep for 2 years and never once had any issues and never once felt like it wasn't a safe vehicle.

While driving (45-50 MPH) dashboard notice states "service shifter" and the indicator lights on the shifter (p,r,n,d) are all lite up. Had to stop, shut vehicle off and then restart. At this point all lights and notice was removed.

Car will not start,has to be towed for service. Fourth time for same problem. They installed new battery but after approx 30 days it happens again.

It began with the check engine light staying on even after oil changes, then when I would turn on the ignition key it would make a tap tap sound as though it didnt have any power, or while I would be at a complete stop while at a light it would sound as though the jeep was losing power and was going to turn off, then it did turn off on me when the light turned green.

When driving a message popped up to "Service Shifter" and all the red lights turned on the shifter. I was unable to switch out of thus screen to bring the digital odometer back up like when other service message appear. When I was able to pull over and turn off the car and wait and turn it back on again the message and lights appeared again. I was able to get my car into the dealership that day to be looked at. The called later and said it would be $1700 to repair. From talking with the dealership and my own Google searches this is a very well known problem. If this is a very well known problem by Jeep why is this not being recalled? It seems that they are just profiting from this issue instead of making it right.

A SERVICE SHIFTER message appeared out of nowhere, and now all the lights turn on regardless of which gear I'm in. After a quick internet search, it appears MANY people have experienced this exact same issue with various Jeep models. It seems this is an issue the company should take responsibility for and fix with a recall.

Over the past several months, I’ve experienced intermittent issues with the electronic parking brake on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. On several occasions, the parking brake activated unexpectedly while I was driving, creating safety concerns and inconsistent vehicle behavior. As of two days ago, the issue became significantly worse.

Issue: Persistent “Service Shifter” Warning on 2017 Jeep Cherokee I own a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, and the “Service Shifter” warning continues to appear even after replacing both the wiring harness and bezel. Despite these repairs, the issue persists, creating safety concerns and frustration. This appears to be a recurring problem for many Jeep owners, yet no permanent fix has been provided.

Every so often when putting vehicle in park while running or at start up I get a dash message “service shifter” and all the gear lights light up and I’m unable to shift out of park. The dealership mechanic has now looked at it three times replacing the shifting bezel, wiring harness, and shift box. The issues still happens almost daily.

There are 3 things: sometimes when I go to start my jeep, it will start and cut off. Secondly: my rear back up camera keeps going in and out. I’ve had it replaced and it still goes out.

For about two years we have been getting a "Service Shifter" display code on the dash, red lights on all the gear indicators by the shift knob, and the service chime sound when the code comes on. At first the issue happened occasionally, and now it is on almost constantly. We have no dashboard visibility when the code is displayed and are concerned that the problem is worsening.

Our 2017 Jeep Cherokee had the service 4WD light come on Tuesday. Our mileage is 60,800. We took it to our local mechanic, who ran a diagnostic.

Consumer is a Permanent and Total Disabled Vet (Unemployable) and this vehicle is the only vehicle Consumer has. I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk KL (XXX) I have owned since day one with 56k miles. At all times I did not receive any recall notices for correct known safety issues.

I’m not the only one with the same issues. I know a lady who has the same problem with her vehicle and has been quoted thousands of dollars to fix it. Cylinders and engine housing..

Vehicle is putting up a code for “service shifter” while driving, which turns off when the car is turned off. Code does not read for dealerships to fix issue. it is reoccurring and we are concerned as we have seen a 2017 jeep Cherokee wreck out after throwing this code and “locking up the engine”.

The car randomly activated the Electronic Parking Break and it will not disengage. I have disconnected the Battery hoping to reset the module but that did not work. This car will also randomly refuse to start or shut down.

Service shifter notification/warning comes on randomly. When this warning is on, all of the lights on the gear shift light up (p,r,n,d). The engine feels like it is slipping, and the vehicle will drive slowly & is very loud.

Indicator lights are shown on dash include gas cap, seat belt and engine. All gear lights display red when driving and states to service shifter. Dash displays service engine soon.

Shifter alarm and need to stop the car to reset. Terrible on the highway engine will shut down. Temperature overheating stopped car working.

Parking brake engage itself upon starting car and was still engaged while backing out of garage. Service parking brake and service start/stop warning lights are now on. Investigation for repair found excessive drain on battery for age of the battery (14 months).

Service shifter light keeps going on after having shifter replaced 1 year ago

Water is leaking into vehicle when it rains. Floor boards are soaked after it rains. Water is coming into contact with electrical somewhere.

Every time it rains, water leaks into the rear of the vehicle through the ceiling and cracks on the side. As a result, water is soaking through the ceiling, rear speakers and trunk. This is causing mold and deterioration of all parts below the spare tire and is a safety issue.

I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and been experiencing service shifter error when all the lights on gear shift lights up in red and this time I was at home and it also flashed oil change on dash board which I just had a recent oil change and this has been an issue off and on and dealership says there is no recall but they have heard of this issue.

The HVAC module stopped working out of nowhere. My mileage keeps flashing and my check engine light came on. There was no warning sign of it getting bad it just wouldn't come on and I took it to the dealership and they diag it and found out what it was.

The car started off by problems with the chip to compute that it needed to open the temperature control valve. So with that came the inability for me to start the car by being outside of it and also the check engine light would come on. The gear shift indicator lights all came on, a service shifter error code. I had to pull over put it in park and turn the engine off and then turn it back on and it reset itself. In february 2019, the same thing happened and they fixed the issue .

My service shifter message has been staying on. When it first started giving the message it would go off when I cut the vehicle off and I wouldn't get the message again for a while but now it is staying on. I've also been having issues with the transmission shifting really hard sometimes but only when I get the service shifter message.

This vehicles had a recall on something that has to do with the transmission- the dealership claims to have corrected the issue. However, the vehicle in question is still having slipping issues. My car just shuts off for no reason for about 2 hours and when it come back on the service engine light comes on and the battery light comes on. I took it to the dealer they said the alternator and battery died. Also the key throb won't come out the ignition I only had the car for 4 months I am the first owner so I don't know how that's happening.

New 2017 jeep cherokee has completely and randomly shut off/shut down while driving three times. Extremely dangerous failure mode! Vehicle has less than 2000 miles and is less than 3 months old.

Service shifter alert

When the car is in park, all of my shifter lights turn red and I receive a Service Shifter warning. It does not happen all of the time but over the past day, it has happened when the car is in park.

My car shuts off when I go over little bumps and light comes on saying press break and shift into park. Then it doesnt start right away but eventually starts again. Also when I go over little bumps my interior lights turn on.
