2015 Hyundai Sonata Other Problems

At about 30mph the sunroof suddenly flew of of my car and almost hit the car behind me thst had to avoid the flying part, for a good luck it didn’t cause a major accident because I was about get in a busy highway and this hazard could’ve caused a major ctash envolvimg multiple cars, the vehicle behind me has a dashcam that recorded the event. For God nobody got injured.

The vehicle had the antitheft recall service done. On 8/30/25 the vehicle was stolen. It was recovered on 9/1/25 without the catalytic converter.

To whom it may concern, I was driving on the highway with my sunroof down as the weather was nice. I started to hear a flapping sound and got off at the next exit. I tried to close the sunroof but it would not close.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata with Quartz White Pearl paint continues to peel off my car and cause me to swerve thinking that there is something coming at my car like a bird due to the paint peeling so fast. This is also a concern for drivers behind me as my roof pain is peeling and may fly into their line of sight/vision which could potentially cause an accident.

Car stalled then started smoking followed by flames. We exited vehicles and ran a safe distance away and called 911

Car has a distinct burning smell when driving it. This has been going on since late summer of 2023. I moved to a different state from NC to AL.

I was driving down [XXX], about 20 miles southwest of Atlanta when I saw flames and smoke come underneath the hood of my car. I pulled over to the right shoulder and I was able to exit the vehicle before the entire front engine compartment was melted and engulfed in flames. Local FD responded and extinguished the fire.

Panoramic Sunroof randomly exploded while I was driving down the street. Appears to be a known issue and a class action lawsuit has been filed.

My car was smoking from under the hood. I had it towed to the dealer. Service dept said valve cover.

My car had been in and out of dealership going through oil consumption testing. Was at dealership on Monday June 19th having more pictures as well as dropping oil pan etc. I was told Friday June 23 2023 car would be ready they were checking a seal to make sure it didn’t leak.

Driving on a busy street the car suddenly started to show a Hibrid system warning safety stop and do not drive and then the car slowed down on traffic scary situation since it was a busy road then another car pulled up and two guys help get it out of the road since the car would not start again. Our safety was at risk on the middle of the road and could possibly caused an accident.

While driving on the 91 freeway in the Fasttrack lanes, this warning displayed on the dashboard: "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive." The Fasttrack lanes are on 91 freeway are cordoned off, so there is no way to get out for 10 miles. We had to continue driving, but the car started losing power after 2-3 miles and began stalling.

Panoramic sunroof exploded spontaneously while the car was driven at night. Terrifying and traumatic. Glass everywhere.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.4L is burning through oil like crazy and has been for a while now and I had no Idea. I get oil changes like I am suppose to do per the sticker and miles. Recently I drove about 4 hours away from home and I smelled burning but I had just got my breaks done and a oil change so I assumed it was the breaks .

Vehicle suddenly lost power while in operation. Vehicle was in motion approaching an intersection. When left turn indicator was activated, all lights on the instrument panel illuminated, the engine shut off, and power steering was lost all while the Vehicle was in motion approaching a intersection with stop sign.

The sunroof exploded while driving on the highway showering the vehicles behind me with glass causing drivers behind me to swerve and or change lanes violently. The explosion was so loud that it caused me to brake hard and to swerve. Hyundai has acknowledged the problem and issued an extended warranty on the sunroof which they are not honoring.

On 1/12/22 I walked out to my car and saw that it was filled with smoke. When I opened the door I saw that the center console was on fire. I called 911.

Car was brought in for service on a Saturday. Car started smoking on drive home. Called Hyundai and they said it was okay.

The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle began to stall and she saw flames exiting from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated.

The ABS and traction lights are illuminated on dash with check bsd system warning on dashboard as well. Seems to be common problem with this car. With these lights on the ABS system I disabled.

My brakes locked on the highway and I could not utilize the brakes to slow down the vehicles. I went off the meridian and finally came to a stop. I pumped the brakes and then they started to work again.

2015 hyundai sonata se caught on fire after being parked in apartment building parking lot on 1/12/20. Car was serviced at certified hyundai dealership repair shop on 1/10/20 for recall work and to investigate oil pressure light that would come on and off intermittently.

I was driving home on freeway from work and I heard loud gunshot thought someone shot me (deaf from one ear so hard to distinguish sound) tried to see if tires flat no alarm went off so pulled over. A car pulled over also so got down I see my sunroof that looks like it exploded , went to guy and he asked what happened? The glass hit his new car.

On 5-6-18 I was on the beltway (freeway) driving with my panoramic sunroof open. All of a sudden a hear this pop and the mesh wind viser on the passenger side is broken then I reach for it and another pop sound with rattling noise then another pop is heard. Before I could do anything I see the entire sunroof glass on that side bouncing.

The car in question is the limited edition with hi tech package & accident avoidance pacakage ,has been acting up & requireing updates regarding safety,sensors codes errors & failure to read & correct conditions. One of one was the brakes & front end avoidance rader/sonar equipt . Going east bound less then the road designated speed post .

The car is two years old, at less than 10,600 miles the battery has to be replaced, which did not follow under any manufacturer warranty (replacing cost me $195.00 at 25% discount).

The air intake hose melted from the heat of the turbo. The symptom of this is a whoosing sound and degraded acceleration. You cannot drive the car with this issue as it can suck in a foreign object into the turbo vanes and bend them, causing permanent damage that may not be covered under warranty.

I purchased new '15 sonata, my 8th one, but I have not nothing but problems with it. This dealership did all maintenance & repairs & had car a total of 7 times for the same complaint of the car 'bucking,' like it is hard to shift into the next gear.I was told it was a computer part & it had been replaced, yet the problem continued, other times I was told there nothing could be detected as wrong.

While traveling on I-65 I accidentally engaged the drivers rear window switch and the window rolled down about half way. All of a sudden a loud whomp, whomp, noise started and the whole car shook and the steering wheel started to vibrate excessively. I really thought the car was about to come apart at 65 MPH.

On 3 separate occassons the vehicle was on a major street when it just died.the first time was comng out of a stop at a red light, the second just when I was driving and the third time whle I was deaccelarating. Miraculalously I was able to use the last bit of momentum and pull over. The car started up again each tme.

I bought this new car a few months ago. At 1089 miles engine overheated while in traffic. I manage to stop safely and I called roadside to tow the car to service.

Was driving car and it went completely hot. Towed to a dealership and they said was not drivable and that the radiator support and radiator hose needs replacing and eventually the Drive CV left and front will need replacing or I will be stranded on side of road.

On the highway, my 2015 Hyundai Sonata suddenly began making a squealing or metallic rattling noise. At first, I thought it might have been something loose inside the vehicle. Within moments, the check engine light began blinking, followed by several additional warning lights and a pronounced knocking noise from the engine area.

My Sonata is experiencing Engine failure due to excessive and irregular oil consumption. The Hyundai dealership conducted an oil consumption test in which it was discovered that the car is excessively using oil. My Safety and the safety of others were put at risk as the engine slow and stalls without prior warning and the check engine light does not come on until the vehicle slows and stalls.

on aug 18 I was driving on the interstate at 80 MPH , suddenly I could no use my gas pedal it lost power , the engine and oil flashed lucky I was able to get my car pulled over out of harms way and called a tow truck , I had it towed to my nearest Hyundai dealership ,on september 22 my car was denied for engine replacement due to me being the second owner , I've only had this car a year , I would like to warn any one with a Hyundai to take caution because their is no warning signs until it happening .

“Hybrid System Warning” 2 years ago last fall I was out of town & received the above warning - car would not start - car had to be towed - cost was over $500 - repair was a battery - paid out of pocket I believe but all this can be pulled from dealership on memorial in tulsa ok Last fall same thing happened - car would not start with same warning light - towed again & besides being out the tow bill all was repaired I keep getting this alarm that randomly flashes on my screen since last oil change (I asked dealership to research reason for alarm & they found nothing) while driving.

On Saturday, October 30, 2021, I was driving down a heavily traveled road with my daughter when my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport coasted to a stop. I still had power and everything else was still on but the car was just dead and wouldn't start. There were all kinds of indicator lights that were on but I didn't know why my vehicle had just died on me.

While I was traveling along a rural road at approximately 40 MPH my car engine shut off abruptly and without warning. There was no pull off and I was left on the road in the flow of traffic. The car will not start and had to get towed back to my place of residence.

My vehicle is stalling out while driving it I took it to the hyundai dealership and they said they could not find anything wrong with my car. This has happened three (3) times two of which my 11year old child was a passenger in my car. It happens at random sometimes the car starts shaking then seems to loose power or die down then picks back up or the worst stalls completely!

On 08/12/2018, I was driving my car on the highway when the electronic display indicated that I was traveling at 65 MPH when I was had slowed for traffic. When I pulled off the highway at an exit the display indicated that I was traveling at 65 MPH when I was at a full stop.

I was beginning to accelerate at a stoplight when it turned green, on a major city street, when the engine stopped without warning. The power remained, the dashboard remained lit, the radio on, climate controls on, phone remained connected to bluetooth, but the engine would not restart for 5 minutes or so.

7 speed dual clutch transmission. Car shakes loses power and stalls causing hugh issues and unsafe driving conditions. Hyundai does nothing for the repair had my car at the dealer 5 times already with 20,000 miles on it.

While driving, my 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T experienced severe knocking and loss of power due to a KSDS-related engine defect. The check engine light was inoperative, and the engine now makes loud noises and emits fumes. Hyundai declined warranty coverage despite known KSDS issues.

What the consumer services tried to offer (More Information for case)me, instead of a replaced engine that is under my warranty. They have replaced engines before over the mileage as goodwill warranty, but refuse to do the necessary work because of mileages.

I am unsure what exactly happened but it is giving an error code for the engine sensor. I was driving the expressway (55-65MPH) and my car went directly into safe mode. Which I didn’t kno what it was til later.

I have approximately 54k on my vehicle and took it to Pep Boys (Lake Forest, Ca) last week for oil change. They state that my front axle (CV Axle) needs to be replaced because it is leaking grease. They state their replacement is a brand-new part.

I had 26,661 miles on my vehicle and took it to V-Tech Auto (Lake Forest, Ca) for brake service on 12/11/21 when I was told by the Manager Adele that my front axle was leaking grease and needed to be replaced.

My battery,oil and check engine light came on. The car would not start, took it to the dealer they had my car 3 weeks and they said they couldn’t pull any codes because it started up. However, they did charge the battery.

First I backed up into a pole, because the warning sensor did not warn me. Even while changing lanes it doesn't always warn..The panoramic sunroof detached while driving . I had to pull over .

Hello, the hood latch / wire / assembly on this make, model has an issue. It gets stuck during the colder months when trying to open the hood. After you pull the latch inside the car; you have to use your finger nails or sometimes a plastic item to pry the hood open and it works almost every time.

the trunk latch need to be replaced the dealer ship has not fixed it since aug 2021 I cant do business this is my work car

It seems that the white 2015, 2016 and 2017 models need to be recalled due to a paint issue. From my understanding there is a "defect" with only the white paint and it seems the vehicles are peeling in the same exact spots as I have shown here. I took my vehicle to Hyundai of Greer on Wade Hampton Blvd in Greer, SC and they told me I would have to pay out of pocket to get these spots taken care of because the original manufacturer warranty has expired and CPO warranty will not cover. Clearly there is a defect or flaw in the white paint and consumers should not have to pay for such issue.

I just got my 2015 Sonata Hybrid in April. Most every time I try to accelerate from a stopping point, the car will not go for at least 3 seconds. I had to sit through a whole green light once because it just wouldn't go. I've pulled out onto highways, needing to pick up speed only to not go at all causing others to nearly smash into me. Also, It can not drive up hills. Twice i have been stopped at a stop sign on a hill and my car would just not go. I had to literally put it in reverse and go back down. One time I had a line of traffic back up behind me. I didnt know what to do! The absolute worst and scariest thing is the car not going when I'm making turns. My daughter and i were almost tboned trying to make a left turn into a driveway. The car just wouldn't go. All I could do was watch this huge truck heading straight for my daughters door. Finally, seconds before we would have been hit, the car decided to gom Sickening!! I have tried everything from cutting off the Blue Drive and EV mode to using the slap stick. Nothing seems to make a difference. I have an appointment with the dealership next week.

WHEN I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA CORPORATE OFFICE, I WAS TOLD THAT SUCH KEY SAFETY FEATURE CAN GO WRONG ANY TIME WHICH WAS SUCH A SHOCKING NEWS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. MY CAR DOES NOT DETECT ANY VEHICLE WHICH IS COMING/PASSING THROUGH AT HIGH SPEED, AND THE REAL WORST THING IS THAT IT'S ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) AND SKIDDING WARNING SYSTEM ARE NOT AT ALL FUNCTIONING WHICH COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. 2015 sonata hydunai engine making noise , will not drive pass 40 MPH. Engine is shaking and knocking and the engine light is on. The hydunai dealership doesn't want to consider it's not under the engine recall here in texarkana, texas.

Engine oil consumption: more than 1 quarter every 1,000 miles but the mechanic did not find any leaking. The vehicle has total 55,000 miles and I drive about 1000 miles/month on freeway and local streets. I also found many reports on the websites and many hyundai dealers had tested the oil consumption and waiting to the response from hyundai headquarters.

The car suddenly loses the ability to accelerate making it very stressful to drive as you are not certain when this will happen. At first it is intermittent but eventually it simply stays that way once the issue begins while you are driving, hence the car will have an almost impossible time retaining speed on the highway or accelerating at a light or as you merge onto highways.

I JUST DROVE 4 AND A HALF HOURS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SAID TO PULL OVER AND CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. IT ALSO SAID CHECK BREAK SYSTEM. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE CAR CORRECTLY THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHILE I TURNED OFF THE HIGHWAY I HAD A HARD TIME STEERING THE CAR AS IT DID NOT WANT TO TURN. THEN WHEN I WENT TO STOP IT DID NOT STOP PROPERLY IT CONTINUED TO COAST. IT WAS THE SCARIEST THING EVER! LIGHTS WERE BLINKING AND IT WAS BEEPING. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THE DEALER WHO RECEIVED THE CAR CALLED AND ASKED WHY IS IT HERE? HE PROCEEDED TO SAY HE STARTED THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEM. IT IS FRIDAY AND NOW I AM STUCK 4 1/2 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME AND THE DEALER SAID HE WON'T BE ABLETO GET TO MY CAR TO DIAGNOSE IT UNTIL MONDAY BC HIS SATURDAY HOURS ARE BOOKE FOR OIL CHANGES AND OTHER CUSTOMER APPOINTMENTS. SO NOW I WILL HAVE TO RENT A VEHICHLE UNTIL AT LEAST MONDAY. HE WILL NOT GIVE ME A LINES UNTIL DIAGNOSED. THEN SAID I COULD NOT HAVE ONE BECAUSE I'M OUT OF STATE. WE WERE ON A SMALL WEEKEND TRIP AND SUPPOSED TO GO HOME SUNDAY. NOW I'M STUCK IN PA WITH NO CLUE WHEN I WILL GET MY CAR BACK. MY KIDS HAVE SCHOOL MONDAY AND NOW I MUST FIND A WAY TO RENT A VEHICHLE AND PAY FOR A HOTEL TIL WHO KNOWS WHEN. LEADING UP TO THIS I WAS ON MULTIPLE HIGHWAYS WITH SPEED LIMITS OF 70 MPH. PRAISE GOD WE MADE IT SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. I'LL NEVER OWN ANOTHER HYUNDAI. I PURCHASED NEW IN 2016. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I HAVE HAD IT TOWED. FIRST TIME IT LEFT ME FOR A CHECK BREAK SYSTEM. MY CHILDREN AND I WERE TERRIFIED!

Hybrid system warning. Check brakes. Do not drive.

There is a delay when accelerating. It either loses power before moving forward or it will act like it does not want to accelerate. Sometimes it sputters when pushing the gas.

Bsd issue light is on, traction control light, ABS light. Dealer said right rear hub sensor was faulty. Had this replaced and didn't fix problem.

While driving down the highway the warning light for the bsd sysiem started blinking on and off. The next morning it stayed on. I took it to the dealer and after two hours the service man came in and told me they couldn't find the problem but they thought it would be behind the rear bumper.

Takata recall while driving this vehicle under 45mph with sunroof open, the wind block component for the panoramic sunroof detached numerous times. For each time I went to hyundai dealer shop to fix it. But it happens more than one or twice of the year.

FIRST OWNER 2015 WITH 119000 MILEAGE ON HIGHWAY ACCELERATION AFTER 40M/H DRIVER SIDE AND WHOLE CAR VIBRATING I DID WHEEL BALANCING , CHANGE TIRE BUT STILL PERSISTENT

There is a continual fluttering noise from the engine compartment which was not heard when this vehicle was first purchased. When I brought it to the hyundai dealer to check what the noise is, the service rep, tiffany, heard the noise also when I started my engine & let it run. However, when service was completed, I was told that the serviceperson could not replicate it.

Drove sonata on north lake blvd going east from dealership after getting car serviced. Stopped at congress for red light. Noticed engine surging and tach at above 3000 RPM.

Original tire on new car plugged before purchase by unknown party. Discovered today when car was taken to dealer because low tire pressure indicator continued to come on even after air was added to tire. Only time car has been out of our control was during service at selling dealer.

When I bought this car the dealer ship fail to disclose how the blue link remote worked. I paid for the first year 99.00 and it expire on 7/29.2016 they do not renew it because I have to buy other extra package that I do not need costing me an extra 99.00 in total it will be 198.00.

My dashboard monitor says repair on off and then I see a wrench. This signal/warning stays on whether I am stationary or in motion. What does this mean?

I am writing in regards to my new 2015 hyundai sonata eco that I purchased in may 2015 from mccarthy hyundai automotive in olathe, kansas. Shortly after bringing it home, I noticed that each time the car was started on a cold start, it would hesitate and pause upon acceleration when I would take off.

The car got the 993 campaign software engine immobilizer update and it was locked with the keyfob. It still got stolen. Thieves broke the lock on driver side door which deactivates the immobilizer.

Cracked dash. This is an ongoing issue with Hyuandai since around 2009. Please investigate.

The car just stopped while driving.

My pearl white 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport’s paint is chipping off while im driving causing paint chips to fly which has almost caused me to wreck. This is happening on the trunk roof and passenger front door.

It seems like the car is skipping.

My car has an anti theft defect that’s making cars like mine easy to be stolen. Over the weekend I took my kids to six flags and my car was stolen. I had my 3 kids with me and my wife.

About 10 percent of the times that a left turn signal is selected, the auto signals a right turn.. Statiionary or in motion, city or highway, day or night.

Smart trunk latch malfunctioned while vehicle was stationary, causing the trunk not to open.

Somehow the engine light came on ....and there is a 2600 undocumented code that I don't know what it is ....

When vehicle is stationary or parked 1 day, and when attempting to accelerate in drive; the car lurges with quick jolt. Making unsafe at times when parked behind other vehicles. This occurs all the time when car is stationary for 1 to 2 days.

Takata recall. My starter went out and the motor locked up

I was sitting still at a traffic light at a very busy intersection and the car just turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I just sat there trying to get it to start but no go. Meanwhile cars were whizzing by me and I was afraid I'd get hit if I got out.

Cam positioning sensor intake/ exhaust faulty inner seal. Or faulty vvts faulty before first oil change. Need addressed.

Sunroof cracked

So this is the first time this has ever happen, I recently got gas two days prior to me finding out at the gas station that my gas door won't open. I currently have under a quarter tank of gas and have to pick up my son. My gas door is not opening, I've tried the switch in the inside of my vehicle and I also tried the manual release.

Car is not accelerating when pressing on gas pedal, while in motion will not go more than 15 miles per hour. Have regular maintenance and the car has only 27000 miles on it.

As I was driving my vehicle just cut off. The battery and check rngine light came on,but my car has plenty oil and I just got a new battery.a few months ago I got the recall corrected but,I have been having issues since.

The remotes to my vehicle are defective they slide off of the valet key without the release button being pushed. Since the vehicle does not use a key to start it, will be unable to use my vehicle if the remote continues to fall apart. One of they remotes was already lost due to this malfunction and the other is wrapped in taped.

Several times when moving from a stop the engine seems to die and starts up.

I read an article on a website stating that a class action suit was filed against hyundai related to its blue link system. The article stated that if you allow your blue subscription to be expired for more than one year, hyundai would possibly permanently deactivate your blue link system. My subscription had expired, so I contacted hyundai and reactivated my subscription for one year for $99.
