2015 Hyundai Sonata Electrical Problems

I was driving on the highway and the engine shut off but everything else remained on. I drifted to the breakdown lane and turned the car off. It would not start again and the car began acting up by turning lights on and off, telling me to check the tire pressure, and not unlocking the doors.

I've had my 2015 hyundai sonata now for A year. I took it to the hyundai place to have recalls on the security fixed. and told them about the valve cover gasket leaking.

While I was driving at approximately 55mph, a loud clank happened and the car stalled, and smoke started pouring out of the hood and through the vents into the cabin, and I was leaving burning pieces behind on the road. I pulled over, ran to the back to get my dogs out of their crash tested kennels in the backseat, and both rear doors & passenger front door were locked.

The engine light started to come on and go off and when I got the codes ran, it said something along the line of misfire. I had the spark plugs changed and I kept regular maintenance done on oil changes and tune ups. Now my engine is knocking and the vehicle is in limp mode.

On [XXX], my 2015 Hyundai Sonata experienced a sudden and complete loss of power while driving at highway speed on [XXX] in Sarasota, FL. There were no warning lights, error messages, or abnormal performance indicators prior to the failure. Within minutes of losing power, smoke began to enter the cabin, followed by visible flames from the engine compartment.

The car has had an electrical issue ever since taking to to get a recall around may of 2023. It will randomly brake and shift the transmission badly while downshifting. I feel as if my make and model falls under the theta II campaign they had to replace certain engines for having a knocking rod be fault and release shaving into the engine causing it to misfire.

I took the car for 4 recalls it had 2 of which were physical and the other two were software according to them. Took the car back to drop someone off, turned it off and then on; it began losing and breaking on its own at slow RPM’s slamming on the breaks. a minute later after having turned the corner I turned on my hazards and it had continued to randomly happen to the car.

The air bag sensor located in the front passenger seat does not function. It is available for inspection upon request. Because the sensor doesn't engage, the passenger-side air bag will not deploy in the event of an accident, leaving my passenger at risk of serious injury or death.

I was driving on the highway and my engine violently started to shake and I pulled onto the shoulder and the engine shut off. I’ve had oil leak and engine problems with this car for 2 and a half out of 3 years! I’ve had to buy countless gallons of oil.

On June 30, 2024 I was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and the car caught on fire. There were no warning lights/ dash indicators/ no check engine lights or other warnings present. I had just exited the highway and while sitting at a light, smoke began emanating from the hood and within seconds the smoke turned dark brown at the vents near the windshield.

In April 2023, I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco from Carvana with 56,000 miles. By May 2023, the mileage was around 72,000. While driving from South Houston to North Houston on [XXX], 2023, the car loudly popped as I exited the highway around 5:00 pm CST.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport with 63k miles does not show any open recalls relating to fires however, my car was parked, went to turn it on, smelled an electrical smell and white smoke began billowing out of the engine. Within minutes the vehical engine compartment was engulfed in flames. I was able to remove my family from the vehicle and fire department came out to extinguish the vehicle.

Car was going approximately 50 miles an hour on a side street when warning lights went on, brakes stopped working, and the engine smoked and appeared to catch on fire. Car was steered into a parking lot and abruptly placed in park. Occupant grabbed valuables and quickly exited the vehicle.

My hydraulic brake booster went out, Very dangerous I almost had an accident, the car doesn’t stop, there are no brakes the car would not stop I’f the hydraulic brake booster goes out you have no brakes and if you’re over 50 miles an hour the E break barely does anything it just sounds like you grinding into the ground. Very scary and I had a child in the car. Towed car to Hyundai.

Trying to break after being hit to prevent hitting another driver . Ended up hitting the driver still and my car ended up catching on fire .

Rear passenger door will not lock manually or via manufacturer installed causing issues with child safety lock and at high speeds can be opened causing injuries and or death ,Windscreen on panoramic sunroof detaches causing safety hazard

Alternator tensioner bracket broke, causing the alternator to hang loosely, which caused the car to gradually lose electrical power to all accessories and safety equipment due to the serpentine belt being loose from the broken bracket. During traveling immediately before failure, the battery warning light illuminated on the dash panel, going on and off intermittently.

This is the third time this has happened. The car just starts to beep and stops working wherever it is. Its died on the highway and another busy road during rush hour causing a dangerous backup in which the police needed to be called.

While I was driving, my check engine light came on. It wasn’t flashing so I was going to continue driving to a parts house (because the dealerships around me were closed) and have them check the codes that were present.

The powered driver seat returning from a reclined position can get stuck in the recline position for some unknown reason. The seat motor, electrical wiring system and the switch have all been examined and replaced and yet for some unknown reason it continues to occur.

While going home on highway 95 at approximately 70 MPH. The vehicle stalled almost causing many accidents. Thank goodness I steered it on the shoulder and it will not restart I had to call for a Tow.

The car caught fire. I only had the car for 3 weeks. I had just started the car for work.

Turn signal sometimes does not work or causes opposite side to activate leading to increased risk of crash, no remedy provided currently from current recall on vehicle. There's no warning as to when this can happen which leads to driving the vehicle a risky bet.

The airbag dash light intermittently comes on and off, it has thrown a b1490 code although the car has never been in any major accidents before. I have read that it is a common issue among vehicles like mine, however there is no recall though I've seen many complaints about it on online forums.

Was driving on sunrise highway doing about 55 MPH when all of a sudden my car start losing all power acceleration and would not go pass 20/30 MPH. Was able to get to side of highway. But now car has issues picking up acceleration.

I left harrisburg to drop 3 students to state college, driving for uber on 09/29/2017.around 9:30pm in lewiston in mifflin county, we came across a short turn.I got a kind of sudden small speed. We were out of the road. I tried to stop and put the car back on the road, too late.

I was driving at 6:20 am on the new jersey turnpike. I was in the left lane and going approximately 70 MPH using the scc (smart cruise control). All of the sudden, the lights start flashing and the car completely turns off.

The safety system on my car more often then not warns of danger that does not exist, especially in direct sunlight at dawn and dusk. The cameras falsely warn of impending crashes or alerting you that you have swerved out of your lane even when you're dead center in your lane with no other cars around. Hyundai has no solution to the problem.

A Aknocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine RPM increases. A Reduced power and/or hesitation and vibration. A Illumination of the "check engine" light in the instrument cluster.

Sensors lights would indicate an issue and would disappear sometimes without any reason (mainly Check Engine and Tire Pressure Sensors). Indicators would trigger the opposite direction (indicate right and the left indicator would turn on). Burning more fuel than expected.

Engine keeps losing power not sure why & also ABS brake system out of nowhere when accelerating in freeway they automatically brake sometimes for safety feature

We received a notice for an IMPORTANT Safety Recall for our 2015 Hyundai concerning a turn signal malfunction. According to the information given to us, this problem could understandably be very dangerous and life threatening.

I was driving under normal conditions and every warning indicator light and chime went off, speedometer and tachometer gauges went to zero, digital display of speedometer went blank. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and shifted into park. I called the nearest Hyundai dealer to speak to a service rep, but was told they were busy and would call back. The car would not shift, it was locked in PARK. I turned it off, waited and turned back on, all warning indicators were still flashing, but I was able to shift into drive, and went straight to the dealer. Diagnostics by dealer was that "CEL WAS ON DUE TO HISTORY CODES. CLEARED CODES AND TEST DROVE THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WORKS AS DESIGNED." 200 miles later, same problem. The recall of the ecu flammable software recalled was fixed at hyundai tysinger dealership in hampton va july 2020 when I retrieved the car the TPMS sensor was illuminated they assured me the software pkg they upgraded and other services provided were not related to that happening. I had a second option at rnr hampton va who ensured me that replacing each tire valve would fix the issue.

VEHICLE DRIVER RECEIVED AUDIO AND VISUAL ALERT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED THAT THE "HYBRID WARNING FAILED AND TO CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM-TURN ENGINE OFF" AND TO PULL OVER SAFELY. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE LOCKED AND LOST ALL POWER MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE INTERSTATE ALMOST INSTANTLY AFTER THE ALARM. UPON RESEARCH, I MANAGE A LARGE VEHICLE FLEET, WE HAVE MULTIPLE OTHER SONATA'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE-AND THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS KNOWN SAFETY FAILURE (17-HC-003-1).

THE CAR HAS FAILED TO START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I ENTER THE CAR, PRESS THE BREAK AND THE PUSH TO START BUTTON, AND THE CAR FAILS TO IGNITE. IT HAPPENS NORMALLY WHEN IT IS COLDER, BUT WILL STILL DO IT WHEN IT IS WARMER OUT.

Head lights randomly go off while driving and do not come back on a lot of the time.this has been happening a lot as of 48000 miles and dealer says they can not find reason.

Driving on the highway when "hybrid system warning. Do not drive" the vehicle lost all power and had to roll down the hill. This happened 2 years ago and the dealership supposedly fixed it.

In 2019 I had my computer replaced with less than 60k miles! I had every light come up on the dash board. I've been complaining to the dealer ship about my car running out of oil, the engine makes weird noises as it currently has less than 80k miles on it.

Car ,hybrid, died at a light. Warning light and buzzer alarm !charging system error do not drive. Was able to restart car.

Navigation system replaced twice. Defective GPS, bluetooth and speaker. Now in dealership for the 3rd time for 5 weeks and still can't find the problem.

At 45,800 miles my sonata could not reach 60 MPH and the RPM could not reach 2000. I also noticed the gas mileage drops the sonata had 35,000 miles on it. I took the car to the dealer and was told it needs new engine.

Engine light is in after recall in regards to the engine light and electric issue. The car is stopping and the gas pedal not working properly. The car starts shaking like it wants to turn off.

Vehicle was stationary when problem first occured and when I applied my foot on the foot emergency parking brake the brake light does not illuminate on the dashboard. The light flickers occasionally or does not come on at all.

Upon driving, my bsd sensors did not operate, and engine made whistling sound upon acceleration and would not go over 40mph without the power being pulled from the engine.

1/2 mile after starting my vehicle and driving approx 30 MPH, my car shuttered and shook. Pulled over and it seemed to fix itself so I continued 23 miles to work. Was approx 39 degrees according to car dashboard.

Ecu sometime locks up. Causing all warning lights to light up, the vehicle would not shift into gear. When shift override is used the vehicle doesn't have power steering and meter gauges do not work.

On three different occasions the dash flashed "check TPMS" meaning check air in the tires. On all 3 occasions the car would not go into gear.the next occasion the check TPMS came on so I put air in the tires and drove around the corner to reset the tire pressure monitor (computer).

My concern is whether or not there is a manufacturing defect in my 2015 hyundai sonata limited manufactured in the united states (and potentially other models as well). My owner's manual clearly states (page 5-41) that the ABS warning light on the dash should illuminate for 3 seconds during start up as the ABS system run a self-test, then extinguish.

I purchased a 2015 hyundai sonata limited w/ tech pkg. I have the car with me in quebec canada for a job. To drive the vehicle in canada, it must undergo an inspection according to canadian standards.during vehicle startup, the ABS warning light on the dash must illuminate for 3 seconds and then go out to signify normal operation of the ABS.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has a defective engine. The motor failed unexpectedly even though the car has low usage and has always been maintained properly. I was informed that many Hyundai engines from these years came with manufacturing issues, and mine appears to be one of them.

The rubber stopper for the brake light switch on the brake pedal deteriorated and fell apart. This resulted in the brake lights remaining on constantly, cruise control being disabled, and low battery voltage.

I have contacted the guy that sold me the car he Refused to fix the recall which is my motor I need Something done , Hyundai won’t Honor their Recall .

They try to use a fob key 3-4 time and it won’t sink in and my door is having problems locking without it

I have been driving at night about 3 times now and my headlights have gone off on their own and come back on after about 10 seconds. This has happened on countless other Hyundai drivers vehicles and needs to be investigated.

My break went out while trying to make a stop.

While driving, received Hybrid system warning that shut the car down . Power steering and braking were non-existent so safely stopping and pulling over was near impossible.

My car was stolen 1week after the recall was performed that was supposed to immobilized the engine. The recall did nothing and now I'm left with the aftermath.

2015 hyundai sonata. Consumer writes in regard to excessively burning oil. The consumer stated the vehicle is burning 1quart of oil much more frequently than each 1,000 miles and has to consistently check the oil level of the vehicle.

The issue is with the hybrid system, which malfunctioned and apparently ruined the rest of the car. The damaged components are adding up to over 75% of the car's value. The vehicle slowed and stopped suddenly on a busy road when the issue started.

While driving on the interstate, the car began to jerk, and then the engine proceeded to rev as if the car needed a power boost to continue performing. The dashboard then said "Hybrid System Warning! Stop and Do Not Drive" and then the car would no longer accelerate and I had to pull over.

Fuse-High Voltage blow, no continuity. Forced us to pull off one lane highway. Turned off car and it would not start after that.

Vehicle continuously alerts that the hood is open when it is in fact closed. Hood latch is in good condition. This happens very randomly, even while driving.

While driving my car lights came on and car started to slow down. I pull over the side of the highway and my car completely stopped and would not come back on. I got a tow and was told there is a recall on my engine and to take it to hyundai.

Horn/ panic alarm is non- functional. Just out of warranty at 62,000 miles.

8-10 times in the past year while driving car in freeway hybrid system warning comes up prompting to safely pull over and turn off car. Car then starts slowing down. Have taken the vehicle to hyundai service 4-5 times and they keep finding broken parts that dont fix the problem.

I was driving on the highway when I noticed the RPM's dropped to zero and the accelerator stopped working. I was able to safely pull over with medium traffic traveling at 70 MPH.

The ventilated seats does not blow cool air even with air conditioning on max. However, my other sonata (same year and model) does not have this issue. Does it mean 50% of hyundai's ventilated seats fail?

Every sense I purchased the vehicle I've been having trouble with my ignition locking up and the accessory position and I'm not able to turn my key I will have to sit for 2 hours and just keep playing with the key until it decides to turn

I must start by saying that english is not my first language, korean is and I would like a translator when I am called for reference. On 07/16/2019 I purchased a 2015 hyundai sonata from carvana and have run into the following problems: the battery was not the correct size for that model car, the engine air intake was completely missing, and the supercharger blew up 4 days after I bought the car.

I believe my vehicle may have a faulty headlight/signaling switch. Whenever I am driving it will randomly switch between the modes of drl, headlights or just off completely. Another issue I have more often then not is when I am trying to signal the blinkers will not turn on at all, and when they do its about 30sec to a minute after I initially moved the switch myself.

When the right indicator was turned on, the left indicator lights came on. When the left indicator was turned on, the right indicator lights came on. When the indicators are turned on the first blink or two is the wrong direction, then it switches to the correct direction.

All functions for the seat maneuvering work, except the decline forward function. The vehicle was stationary and running.

Put blinker on for right hand turn, made the turn, when the blinder stalk (which also contains headlight controls) returned to home position, the headlights went out, and the instrument panel indicated my lights had switched off. My light knob remained in auto, with the computer thought I turned them off. This was at night.

At 1540 miles 2015 hyundai sonata limited engine cam advance sensor failed. This caused engine running rough and limited power with inability to climb hills without constantly downshifting. Highway driving is dangerous due to inability to accelerate and merge and loss of power on hills.

Brand new car purchased and few issues. Gas gauge only goes up to 7/8 even with full tank fill up. Gas mileage does not seem to indicate correct mileage.
