POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 1.6 liter model year 2015 Sonata vehicles manufactured August 29, 2014, to October 28, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect left axle shaft which may result in the shaft separating from the transaxle differential.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, dealers will inspect and replace the axle shaft, as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 126.

Your engine's crankshaft bearings are failing due to metal debris buildup in the oil, and this damage progresses silently without warning signs. Once the damage reaches a critical point, the oil can't circulate properly, the bearings completely fail, internal metal parts contact each other, and your engine locks up instantly. The fix will likely involve an engine rebuild or replacement, along with an oil change and new oil filter.

Component/System Failed: Engine – connecting rod bearing failure consistent with Hyundai Theta II engine defect subject to federal recalls and Consent Orders. In September 2022, we noticed a noise coming from under the car hood. Sounded like a thump as we accelerated. We took it to the Hyundai’s service department and was told that they couldn’t hear anything or find a problem.

While my VIN# did not have the recall does not mean the car was not part of the recall. After visiting a dealer, he determined the axle was indeed the issue and needed to be replaced.

Air intake was replaced 3x. 3rd time lead to turbo failure. Thompson hyundai replaces turbo but doesn't put antifreeze, tighten oil screw (which blew oil all over engine), and they didn't even test drive it.

Bought this car brand new and at 20,000 miles it all started to go down hill. My car shakes & stalls hesitates bad loss of power almost causing accidents on a daily basis. Was driving with cruise control on and driving close to 70mph and the RPMs shot up passed 5 then the car jerked and my speed had went from 70 down to 50 and 40 the cruise controle turned off on its own and the car lost power but was still on but it just wouldn't drive passed 2 rpms and the check engine light was flashing so I turned around and headed the opposite direction so I could get the car off the road then it made this loud noise sounded like throwing metal inside a metal bladed fan and then the car shut off and hasn't started since.

While driving in city traffic, 45 MPH zone, my car suddenly lost power, engine RPMs dropped, engine off, power steering impaired, I had to drift into turnout and assess. 2015 hyundai sonata engine failure, exactly similar to symptoms described in recall articles for older models up to 2014. Hyundai warranty company declined the repair claiming it was an owners maintenance issue. I don't have hard receipts for all of the oil changes I've completed on the car.

The vehicle is slow to accelerate and as its accelerating it often will jerk or hesitate roughly. Shortly following the replacement of the Engine, the problems that reside in the transmission are now costly up to $3000 or more for this issue.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed that the CVT transmission seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred on July 20, 2021. The vehicle was taken to the same local dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

My Sonata Eco is a 2015 model with less than 46,000 miles. I take it for scheduled maintenance at least twice every year since I purchased it. The vehicle was experiencing stuttering, vibrations and lack of acceleration, most frequently when turning, moving uphill or early after startup. The stuttering would vary in it's intensity, from barely noticeable to strong enough to shake passengers. Sometimes when performing a turn, my car would not be able to accelerate, leaving me in the path of oncoming traffic until it would start working again. This would also occur when travelling uphill. No warning lights or other messages were given by the car. After taking it to the Hyundai dealership they informed me that my transmission was faulty and would require a full replacement. They specifically mentioned it was a mechanical issue with the dual clutch not engaging properly. All electronic/software in the vehicle was confirmed by the dealership to be up-to-date so this was purely a mechanical issue.

I WAS ALSO GIVEN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WITH A CAMPAIGN NUMBER OF 15-01-022-1. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ALSO CAME BACK WITH THE SAME CODE. I HAVE PAID FOR THE PARTS AND DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY COULDN'T GIVE AN ESTIMATE OF WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER. HERE I AM TWO WEEKS LATER CALLING THE DEALERSHIP TO FOLLOW UP AND WAS TOLD BY THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THAT THEY CONTACTED HYUNDAI DIRECTLY AND THERE ARE 1800 OF THOSE PARTS ON BACK ORDER WITH AN ESTIMATED TIME OF BEING AT LEAST TWO MONTHS FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN.
