Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 99)

Seats3 issues

Filed: Mar 2026

Your second-row seats have fold-up buttons on the shoulder that can be accidentally tapped while children are getting in or out of the vehicle. When pressed, the seat collapses forward even if a child seat is installed or a passenger is sitting there — the seat will fold regardless of whether a seatbelt is buckled or someone is occupying the seat. This poses a risk of a child being pinched or crushed between the folding seat and the front seat. The fix would likely involve adding a sensor system to prevent the fold button from functioning when a child seat is detected or when a passenger is present and unbuckled.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your middle row seat has a fold-down button that can be accidentally pressed too easily. Your daughter was pinched when the seat began folding and was able to escape only by lying down sideways. This design poses a risk of injury to passengers, especially children, if the button is pressed unintentionally during normal use. A fix would likely involve redesigning the button location, adding protective guards, or requiring intentional dual actions to activate the fold-down mechanism.

NHTSA #: 11728156

Filed: Mar 2026

Your second row captain's seats won't stop folding down when the power button is pressed, even if someone is sitting in them or there's something on the seat. This means the seat could fold up on a passenger without stopping. The power seat motor and control mechanism may need to be replaced or repaired to restore the safety stop feature.

Unknown Or Other3 issues
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Mar 2026

The rear bucket seats are collapsing or crushing inward, which could injure a passenger if their seat belt isn't buckled. This is especially dangerous for rear-facing car seats, as the crushing could pose a serious risk to a baby. The seat structure appears to be failing to maintain its integrity.

NHTSA #: 11725035

CrashFiled: Feb 2026

Your vehicle continued rolling forward even after you shifted it into Park, causing it to collide with the car in front of you. This suggests a potential issue with the parking brake or transmission not holding the vehicle securely in Park. A mechanic will need to inspect the transmission, parking brake system, and related components to determine why the vehicle didn't remain stationary.

NHTSA #: 11720532
mediumUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Jan 2026

Your windshield has developed multiple rock chips and impact marks after just 23,000 miles and less than a year of ownership, despite three previous repairs. You're noticing tiny dot impressions across the glass from rock impacts, which seems excessive for normal driving. The windshield may need to be replaced rather than repaired if the damage is widespread.

NHTSA #: 11712089
Visibility/wiper2 issues
highVISIBILITY/WIPER
Filed: Mar 2026

Your windshield has cracked or chipped three times in less than a year (September 2024, December 2025, and March 2026), requiring replacements or repairs each time. You're concerned that the windshield may be unusually fragile and worry about its ability to protect you in a crash, especially after paying $100 per replacement and seeing your insurance premiums increase due to multiple claims.

NHTSA #: 11725551
highVISIBILITY/WIPER
Filed: Feb 2026

Your driver's side wiper blade has stopped working twice because snow and ice built up around the wiper arm, preventing it from moving fully and causing the arm to slip off its motor connection. When this happens, the wiper arm becomes loose, overlaps with the passenger wiper, and can't clear your windshield properly—creating a visibility problem while driving. The issue appears to be that the wiper design makes it difficult to manually lift the arms when snow is present, and there's no heated wiper area to prevent ice buildup. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the wiper arm and motor spline connection, and possibly addressing the wiper recess design.

NHTSA #: 11714843
Service Brakes,forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalSERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Mar 2026

Your vehicle's automatic braking system (forward collision avoidance) isn't working properly. Even though you've enabled the feature in the settings, it's not assisting with sudden braking situations as intended. The system appears to be malfunctioning despite being turned on.

NHTSA #: 11726392
Power Train,electrical System,unknown Or Other1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Mar 2026

Your dashboard has gone completely black three times while driving, as if the vehicle shut off, then the Hyundai startup logo reappears while you're still moving. When this happens, your car loses acceleration and becomes difficult to control—the most recent incident occurred at highway speeds (65-70 mph), forcing you to coast to the shoulder. Your dealer inspected the vehicle but couldn't reproduce the problem and found no error codes. This likely involves a power delivery or electrical system issue that may require advanced diagnostic testing or software updates to identify the root cause.

NHTSA #: 11725263
Seat Belts,seats1 issue
criticalSEAT BELTS,SEATS
Filed: Mar 2026

Your 2024 Santa Fe's second-row captain's seats have an electric recline button on top that can compress a seated person. The button is disabled when a seatbelt is fastened, but remains active when only LATCH connectors (not a seatbelt) secure a rear-facing car seat. The owner tested this and found the seat compresses with significant force and requires extra pressure to stop or reverse. This poses a potential safety risk to children in rear-facing car seats that aren't using the seatbelt. A fix would need to detect when someone or something is in the seat and disable the button, similar to how it currently works with seatbelt detection.

NHTSA #: 11725045
Seat Belts1 issue
criticalSEAT BELTS
Filed: Feb 2026

Both the driver and front passenger seat belts are difficult to fasten and release on your 2024 Santa Fe. You may find that a belt feels secured but unexpectedly comes undone while driving. Your dealer has indicated replacement parts are on back order, which means your seat belts may not provide reliable protection in a crash until they're replaced. The fix will likely involve installing new seat belt assemblies once parts become available.

NHTSA #: 11720134
Power Train1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Feb 2026

Your 2024 Santa Fe experienced a sudden transmission failure at 24,370 miles, displaying a "Transmission system error" warning and losing power while driving—a serious safety risk on highways. The dealership replaced the transmission, but the exact same failure happened again just 500 miles later at 24,878 miles, requiring another transmission replacement plus a new transmission control unit. This pattern of repeated catastrophic failures in a new vehicle suggests a defect that could cause your car to stall unexpectedly in traffic. The fix will involve diagnosing and replacing the transmission system and its control module to restore safe operation.

NHTSA #: 11719267
Steering,electrical System,service Brakes1 issue
criticalSTEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Feb 2026

Your car's lane assist and driver monitoring system falsely detected that your hands weren't on the steering wheel despite them being there, causing the vehicle to beep, flash warnings, and automatically brake and pull to the right—temporarily losing your control. In a separate incident during snowing/freezing rain, the lane assist couldn't properly see road lines due to weather conditions but continued beeping and correcting steering, and wouldn't turn off without accessing the infotainment menu while driving. You've also experienced unexplained sensor issues with the tire pressure monitoring system. The fix will likely involve recalibrating or replacing the steering wheel grip sensors, camera/radar sensors, and updating the lane assist software to better handle false activations and adverse weather conditions.

NHTSA #: 11716466
Back Over Prevention1 issue
highBACK OVER PREVENTION
Filed: Mar 2026

Your backup camera has stopped working on your 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, even though no warning lights appeared on your dashboard. This is part of a known safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 25V808000). When you contacted the dealer, they told you the replacement parts are currently on backorder and unavailable. The camera repair will likely involve replacing the backup camera unit itself.

NHTSA #: 11725759
Power Train,engine1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE
Filed: Mar 2026

Your car hesitates and accelerates slowly when you start from a stop while turning right, though it accelerates normally when going straight. This has happened about 5-6 times and creates a safety concern when merging onto highways, since you can't predict whether the car will respond normally. No warning lights appear, and the problem seems to happen randomly during right-turn starts. A mechanic will likely need to scan the engine's computer and test the transmission response during turning to identify what's causing the power delay.

NHTSA #: 11722281
Vehicle Speed Control1 issue
highVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Mar 2026

When you put your 2024 Santa Fe in reverse, the car would rapidly accelerate and jerk without you pressing the gas pedal, as if it might stall. The dealership confirmed the problem, but the manufacturer was unable to identify the root cause despite investigation. The issue happened without any warning lights appearing on your dashboard. Fixing this likely requires the dealer to diagnose and repair the transmission or throttle control system.

NHTSA #: 11721258
Wheels1 issue
highWHEELS
Filed: Feb 2026

The acoustic foam inside one of your original tires came apart, causing your car to shake violently at highway speeds (starting around 50 mph). The dealership confirmed this was a manufacturing defect, not damage from impact. Unfortunately, Hyundai, the dealership, and Pirelli (the tire manufacturer) each blamed the other and refused to cover the replacement cost, leaving you responsible for the repair out of pocket.

NHTSA #: 11719072
Forward Collision Avoidance,lane Departure1 issue
highFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Feb 2026

Your car's lane-following and cruise control systems frequently give false warnings to pay attention, especially in heavy traffic and at night, which can be distracting and unsafe when you're actually driving carefully. The system will suddenly shut off these features or suggest you take a break based on what appears to be incorrect readings from the in-cabin camera. This has been happening repeatedly over 14 months and 25,000 miles, making the vehicle difficult to drive, particularly during winter night driving.

NHTSA #: 11716017
Exterior Lighting1 issue
mediumEXTERIOR LIGHTING
Filed: Feb 2026

Your headlights' automatic dimming feature has stopped working. Now every time you use the headlights, you have to manually push the switch forward and pull it back to switch between bright and dim modes instead of the lights adjusting automatically. The owner reports this is a safety concern because it requires taking your attention off the road to adjust the lights, potentially affecting other drivers. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing or replacing the auto-dimming headlight control module or sensor.

NHTSA #: 11720142
