NHTSA Campaign: 25V549000

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:CRITICAL FASTENERS

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Tucson and Santa Fe vehicles. The connecting rod bolts in the engine may have been improperly tightened, which can cause a loss of drive power and engine damage, possibly resulting in an oil leak.

Risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. An oil leak in the presence of hot engine components can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire.

Fix: Dealers will replace the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 23, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 281.

Component: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025 Tucson, 2025-2026 Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, and 2026 Genesis GV70 vehicles. The side curtain air bags may not have been installed properly, which can cause the air bags not to deploy as intended.

Risk: Side curtain air bags that do not deploy as intended increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Fix: Dealers will reinstall the side curtain air bags, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 29, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 289 and 029G. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 22, 2025.

NHTSA Campaign: 26V047000

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Tucson Hybrid, Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV), 2026 IONIQ 5, Santa Cruz, Kona, Palisade, Palisade Hybrid, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Sonata, Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

Risk: An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: The instrument panel display software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 24, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 293. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 28, 2026.

Your second-row captain's chairs have a safety defect: when you press the one-touch tilt-and-slide button, the seat continues folding even when a passenger is seated with the seatbelt fastened, potentially crushing the occupant. This issue has been reported on Hyundai Palisade models and is now affecting your Santa Fe.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your 2026 Santa Fe's power-fold middle row seats may fold unexpectedly and cannot be stopped once activated, even if someone is in the way or trying to prevent it. The seat has a sensor that only stops folding if it contacts the front seat, but the sensor's threshold may be set too high to detect obstacles in normal positions. Additionally, manually repositioning the middle row backward may trigger the seat to fold again on its own without any command from you. This issue is similar to a problem being recalled in the Hyundai Palisade and poses a safety risk. A fix would likely involve recalibrating or redesigning the power-fold sensor sensitivity and the seat's control software.

While adjusting your front driver's seat, the second-row passenger seat on the right side unexpectedly started folding down on its own — with your child in a booster seat. You were able to stop it before it fully collapsed, and your child wasn't hurt. The seat appears to have an electrical control issue that's causing it to activate when you don't intend it to.

Your car's right rear passenger window suddenly shattered and exploded while driving on the highway without any warning, impact, or temperature difference. Pieces of glass fell into a child safety seat in the back. This happened without any prior signs like unusual noises or flexing, and no other vehicles were involved.

While driving in light to moderate snow with your wipers on Low, they repeatedly stopped working for brief periods before resuming on their own. During these stops, snow built up on your windshield and blocked your view, creating a safety hazard for you and other drivers. Your dashboard showed no warning lights or alerts before, during, or after this happened, which is concerning because you won't know if it happens again. The wipers may need a motor replacement, electrical connection repair, or control module inspection to diagnose why they're intermittently stopping.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your instrument cluster and navigation display suddenly went completely black after turning off the radio, but came back on after pressing several buttons multiple times. Additionally, your vehicle experienced engine and powertrain issues at 1,199 miles that caused loss of power when accelerating and excessive vibration, requiring replacement of the throttle body and torque converter assemblies. The dealer took 22 days to complete the repairs.

NHTSA #: 11719714
Lane Departure1 issue
highLANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Feb 2026

Your Santa Fe's lane departure warning system displays a "Consider taking a break" message that cannot be turned off or adjusted for sensitivity. On back roads, in windy conditions, or on snow-covered roads, this warning can trigger repeatedly (sometimes 50+ times in a 90-mile drive), and its audio alert overrides your vehicle's audio system, making it difficult to drive safely. The fix would require Hyundai to release a software update that allows you to adjust or disable the lane departure warning sensitivity.

Your windshield developed a horizontal crack about 8 inches long on the driver's side while the car was parked with no impact or rock chips, during cold weather (15-25°F). The crack continued to spread overnight while parked, reaching 24 inches within a week. You report the windshield appears thinner than windshields in your previous cars, and you're concerned about the windshield's durability and whether this is a manufacturing defect rather than normal wear.

highVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Dec 2025

When you use adaptive cruise control, your car's driver attention system automatically turns on even if you disabled it earlier. The system can't properly detect your eyes through prescription glasses, causing it to repeatedly warn you about not watching the road and potentially attempting to brake your vehicle in traffic.

NHTSA #: 11708117
Visibility1 issue
highVISIBILITY
Filed: Nov 2025

Your windshield washer fluid is only spraying 2-3 inches instead of reaching the full windshield, making it difficult to clean your glass and creating a visibility hazard while driving. The dealer confirmed this is a known issue but said they cannot adjust the sprayers and found no defect in the system. The problem may require replacement or adjustment of the windshield washer nozzles or the washer pump system.

Forward Collision Avoidance,lane Departure1 issue

Filed: Mar 2026

Your Santa Fe's driver fatigue detection system frequently displays a "Take a Break" coffee cup warning and audio alert, even during normal, safe driving. The system can't distinguish between intentional steering corrections (from bumpy roads or sun glare) and actual drowsy driving, causing false alarms multiple times per trip—sometimes within minutes of starting. Unlike older Hyundai models, you cannot disable this alert, making it distracting rather than helpful. Fixing this would likely require a software update to improve the system's ability to accurately detect true driver fatigue versus normal driving adjustments.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your new Santa Fe Hybrid makes squeaky noises when you turn the steering wheel counter-clockwise, even though the vehicle has fewer than 2,500 miles. The noise is loud enough to distract you while driving. Your dealer has declined to address the issue. The fix will likely involve inspecting and lubricating or replacing components in the steering column or steering wheel assembly.
