There is a known safety recall regarding brake fluid being leaked internally that has been acknowledged by Hyundai since September 2023. This can cause fires even when the vehicle is parked. NO SOLUTION has been provided except for "park your vehicle outside". This has been a known safety issue for 8 months and NO SOLUTION has been provided to us owners. Even parking outside is an issue as I live in Memphis, TN the #1 city for auto theft. Auto theft has been rampant also due to Hyundai's unwillingness to install an ignition kill switch at production. Hyundai has been grossly negligent in the production of their vehicles and cutting corners at the consumer's safety expense. Not having a soltuin

Without warning, car bump steers going over bumps on a curve of the road. Rear end of car will swing to the outside of curve, right or left depending on curve taken. This will cause a control problem, causing car to steer into oncoming traffic. Car will bump steer on a straight road depending on road condition.

Since I purchased this vehicle in 10-2012 I have had major suspension tracking issues. When driving at normal highway speeds (50-70MPH), the slightest bump in the road makes the rear of the vehicle sway and "dog walk" . This has been an issue within the first few months of ownership, but the dealership found no issues. The situation started shortly after purchase and continues the same as of today (5-5-2023). I have replaced the rear shocks with better than OEM shocks and continue to have the same situation. If the bump in the road happens to be in a slight curve (such as an expansion joint in bridge) on the Interstate, the vehicle nearly looses complete traction. This happens with new tires and on dry, warm concrete. I have spoken with other owners of similar make and year and all have said they had the same issue, even right after purchase. No warning lights, traction control lights or messages appear on display.. I have had multiple inspection stations and garages check out the suspension and wheel units, but no malfunctions or defects found.

PURCHASED WHAT I BELIEVE IS A LEMON FROM THE STAMFORD HYUNDAI. VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND RECALL ISSUES NOT ADDRESSED. ANOTHER CAR THAT HIT MINE STATED THAT MY CAR BRAKE LIGHTS INDICATED I STOPPED WHEN I ACTUALLY RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL. I BELIEVE THAT THE DEALERSHIP OVER CHARGED ME FOR A DEFECTED VEHICLE AND FAILED TO ADDRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL ISSUE WHICH CAUSED MY LANE CHANGE ACCIDENT. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF SOMEONE CAN ASSIST ME WITH THIS SERIOUS INFRACTION. AGAIN MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BUT THE OTHER DRIVER SAID IT APPEARED TO BE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF CONTROL OF THIS VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, INCLUDING TODAY. AS I HAVE FAITHFULLY MAINTAINED MY CAR, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THE DESIGN OF THE CAR IS THE ISSUE. SPECIFICALLY, WHEN I ATTEMPT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE CAR WILL NOT BRAKE PROPERLY AND IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL. TODAY, I EXPERIENCED THE CAR HYDROPLANE AND THANK GOODNESS NO OTHER CAR WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR ON THE SIDE BECAUSE IT TOOK ME AT LEAST TWO MINUTES BEFORE I COULD GAIN CONTROL AGAIN. THIS OCCURED WHEN I MADE A RIGHT TURN WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH AND NO PUDDLES OF WATER WERE PRESENT. EARLY APRIL, I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT WHERE I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, ALTHOUGH MY BRAKES WERE REPLACED A FEW WEEKS PRIOR. BACK IN DECEMBER 2019, I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY I-95 WHILE DRIVING HOME. I HAVE IT DOCUMENTED THROUGH AAA. MY TIRE BLEW AND THE CAR FAILED TO STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND ADVISED WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY INSISTED MY TIRES AND BRAKES WERE FINE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TODAY AND FOUND I AM NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. I SAW SEVERAL CUSTOMERS STATING THEY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE, HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY TO THE POINT I NO LONGER WANT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE.

I THEN RECEIVED A "RECALL NOTICE" FOR THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA (1/29/2018) AND TOOK IT BACK TO HYUNDAI OF LAS VEGAS WHO FIXED A BRAKE PEDAL DEFECT FREE OF CHARGE. I KNOW THERE ARE 29 HYUNDAI CONSUMER COMPLAINTS REPORTED TO THE NHTSA ABOUT THE "SWAYING MOTION" ON HYUNDAIS THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THE SUSPENSION WHICH SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL PRIORITY LIST TO IN MY OPINION SINCE I AM MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR MY USED HYUNDAI. AS WITH MANY OTHERS, MY 2013 ELANTRA LIKES TO KICK THE BACK END OUT OVER BUMPS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I PASSED AN ACCIDENT LAST WEEKEND ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE A 2013 ELANTRA HAD CRASHED INTO THE CEMENT BARRIER JUST AFTER A BRIDGE ON WET ROADS. MY CAR JUMPED OVER THE SAME BUMP ALTHOUGH I WAS AT A LOWER SPEED BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT AND IT WASN'T AS SEVERE AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF I WAS GOING FASTER. IT IS MUCH WORSE AS THE CAR GETS OLDER. IT ALSO HAS OTHER ISSUES THAT OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT SUCH AS NOT WANTING TO START (3 TIMES) AND WHITE SMOKE IF YOU ACCELERATE TOO QUICKLY. DEALER HAS BEEN NO HELP.

'TAKATA RECALL' WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IF I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP OR IRREGULARITY IN THE ROAD REAR END OF CAR JUMPS AROUND. ON WET OR SLICK ROADS IT IS EVEN WORSE. FROM THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. I NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH STABILITY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS UNSURE AS TO WHAT WAS CAUSING THE CAR TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS JUMPING AFTER HITTING SMALL BUMPS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I UNDERSTAND NOW THAT IT IS THE SUSPENSION THAT IS CAUSING THIS INSTABILITY. THE BUMPS I HIT ON THE HIGHWAY ARE NOT MAJOR BUMPS, THESE ARE JUST THE SMALL ONES THAT TRANSITION FROM SECTION TO SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY SO I KNOW IT ISN'T THE ROAD I DRIVE ON, IT IS THE CAR. ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ANYWHERE FROM 45-65MPH THE DRIVING STABILITY FEELS UNSAFE AND THE VEHICLE WAVERS BACK AND FORTH ON THE HIGHWAY, HAVING TO ALWAYS CORRECT IT. WHEN IT IS WINDY IT IS EXTREMELY WORSE. I CANNOT BELIEVE HYUNDAI MADE A CAR THIS UNSAFE. DRIVING THIS WINTER I HAVE ONLY HOPED THAT THE JUMPING AND WAVERING DOESN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO FEEL THAT WAY IN A VEHICLE. THE COMPANY SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ISSUES. THIS HAPPENS FROM ABOUT 45 MPH ON UP. ON THE HIGHWAY, I HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE WHEN I SEE A BUMP, AND LET OFF THE GAS. (NOT SURE HOW MUCH THAT HELPS, BUT IT'S JUST MY INSTINCT). IF THERE IS A ROW OF BUMPS/HOLES, I HAVE TROUBLE KEEPING CONTROL OF THE CAR. ALSO I HAVE TO REPLACE TWO TIRES ABOUT 24,000 MILES, AS THEY GET UNEVEN WEAR FROM A FIXED? REAR AXLE THAT IS DESIGNED TO NOT BE ALIGNED. NOT SURE IF THAT IS RELATED TO THE CAR FISHTAILING. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH INTENTION OF PASSING DOWN TO MY DAUGHTER, BUT WOULD NEVER LET AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR FOR FEAR OF THEM DYING.

IT IS SCARILY NOTICEABLE WHEN I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY. IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS BALANCED. WHEN DRIVING, I FEEL LIKE I'M LOSING CONTROL OF THE CAR EVEN ON SHARP CURVES, WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SERVICE CHECK 2 DAYS AGO (I BOUGHT THE CAR ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO), AND THEY SAID THAT THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE IN THIS CAR IS CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS MODEL; IT'S THE WAY THE REAR AXLE WAS DESIGNED AND THERE'S NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO CHECK THE SUSPENSION AND STRUTS AS WELL. THEY SAID THOSE WERE FINE BUT THEY "TIGHTENED IT UP". I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS IF IT WAS FINE IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW I'M STUCK WITH DRIVING A CAR THAT I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN ALL CONDITIONS. MY TIRES HAVE SUFFICIENT TREAD ON THEM, SO THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE EITHER. I WANT HYUNDAI TO INVESTIGATE THE COMPLAINTS OF THE 2013 ELANTRA LIMITED EDITION.

WHEN IT IS SNOWING I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE BRAKE GETS LOCKED UP AND MAKES A LOT OF NOISE. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. ALSO THIS CAR SUSPENSION IS HORRIBLE. YOU FEEL ALL THE BUMPS IN THE ROAD. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THIS CAR. MOST OF MY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY. DRIVING ON WET ROADS COMING TO A STOP OR HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE CAR SWERVES AND MAKE ALOUD GRABBING NOISE. SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE COMING UP THROUGH THE FLOOR. I LOVE THE CAR BUT DON'T LOVE THE WAY IT DRIVES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PAD WITH A FULL ALIGNMENT. THIS VEHICLE STILL DRIVES THE SAME WAY EVEN WHEN ALL THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED.

THE CORE OF THE PROBLEMS APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF POOR SUSPENSION AS THE VEHICLE ROCKS UP AND DOWN AFTER HITTING ANY IDEA SPEED BUMP, HILL OR POTHOLE. I HAVE TAKEN MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA INTO RED MCCOMBS HYUNDAI IN SAN ANTONIO TX. ON I-10 WEST SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WIT THE STRUTS. AND THEY DID WORK ON THE SURGING PART OF THE ENGINE BUT IT STILL SURGES WHEN SPEEDING UP. I WAS TOLD BY FIRESTONE THAT THE STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND I WAS TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS HERE IN KERRVILLE, TX THE SAME THING BUT THEY SAID I WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND SHOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND INSIST THEY REPAIR IT. SO I'LL TRY ONE MORE TIME. THE FRONT END MAKES A LOUD CLICKING SOUND WHEN TAKING OFF AND FEELS LIKE IT BOTTOMS OUT WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP. IT IS A BIT NERVE RACKING. TODAY APR. 23 I BROUGHT MY CAR IN AGAIN FOR SERVICE AND RECEIVED THE SAME RUN AROUND ABOUT THE TIRES. THEY ROTATED THEM AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO SIGNS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THEM. ALSO THE CAR DOES NOT SEEM SOLID WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT JUMPS AND SWAYS AT EVERY LITTLE BUMP. MY BRAKES WERE ALSO VIBRATING. WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS I AM NOT ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE OVER 40-50MPH WITHOUT THE REAR END SWAYING AND FISHTAILING. THE SUSPENSION ON THE VEHICLE FOR SUCH LOW MILES IS ALSO VERY NOISY AND RATTLES OVER THE SLIGHTEST IMPERFECTIONS ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ON 3/12/14 AND THE HYUNDAI SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT A HYUNDAI TECH TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. ALSO THEY FOUND THAT THE ROTORS HAD RUST ON THEM AND HAD TO BE RESURFACED/MACHINED. ROTORS SHOULD NOT GO BAD WITH A VEHICLE THAT HAS LOW MILES. AT AROUND 38000 MILES I NOTICED THAT I WAS HEARING A LOT OF NOISE OUT OF THE REAREND OF THE VEHICLE. THINKING IT WAS A BAD WHEEL BEARING I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID MY REAR TIRES WERE BALD AND NEEDED REPLACED. I TOOK A LOOK AT THE REAR TIRES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTICED IT WAS A VERY UNEVEN AND IRREGULAR TIRE WEAR PATTERN SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I NEEDED TO ROTATE MY TIRES MORE OFTEN (TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY 3000 MILES WHEN OIL WAS CHANGED) AND THAT WAS WHY THE IRREGULAR WEAR ON ONLY THE 2 REAR TIRES. THE WEAR APPEARED AS WAVY SPOTS WHERE THE TIRE HAD NO TREAD THEN RIGHT NEXT TO THAT IT HAD PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT. SO I GAVE IN BOUGHT ALL 4 BRAND NEW TIRES AND AFTER 1500 MILES I WENT AHEAD AND ROTATED THE TIRES NOTICING THAT THE REAR TIRES HAD ALREADY BEGAN TO WEAR IN THE EXACT SAME PATTERN SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BAD SET OF TIRES. NEEDLESS TO SAY I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL TIRE SHOP AND HAD THEM CHECK THE ALIGNMENT ON THE BACK TIRES EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SOLID REAR AXLE. THE ALIGNMENT CHECK SHOWED THAT THE REAR WHEELS DO NOT TRACK STRAIGHT AND THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO WEAR VERY FAST. I TOOK THIS INFORMATION BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH REFUSED TO CHECK THE ALIGNMENT ON THE REAR WHEELS BECAUSE IT IS A SOLID AXLE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT FOR IT. THEY CONTINUED TO BLAME THE TIRES AND ROTATION SCHEDULE FOR THE PROBLEM. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH ON THE WEB THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE HYUNDAI ELANTRAS AND THE DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO FIX IT EVEN KNOWING THAT PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. AT THAT POINT I WAS FRUSTRATED SO I CALLED HYUNDAI CORP OFFICE. AFTER AN HR CONVERSATION I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. SO THAT FRIDAY OFF THE CAR WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT BAD & THAT MY TIRES WERE OVER INFLATED BY 8LBS EACH. SO 3 HRS & A LOT OF PATIENCE I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS ALL SET. 20 MINS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE TPMS LIGHT GOES OFF AGAIN WITH THE BLUE LINK ALERT TO SERVICE THE CAR ASAP. THE FOLLOWING DAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THIS TRIP I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A SENSOR CHANGED. 3 HRS LATER I LEAVE & HALF WAY HOME TPMS AGAIN. THAT'S 5 TIMES NO REPAIR. AFTER VISUALLY INSPECTING THE WHEEL, IT APPEARED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT RIM WAS CUT IN A HALF VERTICALLY AND ALL AROUND. IT WAS CUT IN A NEAR-PERFECT STRAIGHT LINE - SIMILAR TO WHAT A OPENED CAN LOOKS LIKE. THE TIRE REMAINED FULLY INTACT WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE. THE BODY SHOP MECHANICS TOLD US THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THE RIM CUT LIKE THAT BEFORE AND SAID THE ONLY EXPLANATION WOULD BE A DEFECT IN THE RIM. WE HAVE PICTURES AND CAN PROVIDE THEM UPON REQUEST. I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON JUNE 18, 2012 FROM DICK HANNAH VOLKSWAGEN HYUNDAI OF PORTLAND, OREGON. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, I BEGAN HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM THE TRUNK AREA. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON AUGUST 24, 2012. INITIALLY, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY TRIED TO USE EPOXY TO FIX THE NOISE AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 36 HOURS (OVER THE WEEKEND) TO LET IT DRY. ON MONDAY, THE SOUND WAS STILL THERE AND THEY RAN FURTHER TESTS. I WAS THEN INFORMED ON WEDNESDAY THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE COLLISION CENTER IN VANCOUVER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. ON THURSDAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO HAVE A PART RE-WELDED. I REALLY WAS NOT TOLD EXACTLY WHAT WAS BEING WELDED AT THAT POINT, BUT THAT IT WOULD NOT BE READY UNTIL THE NEXT WEEK (FOLLOWING THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND). FINALLY, ON TUESDAY I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX] AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD CONTACTED HYUNDAI TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD ENCOUNTERED THE SAME NOISE. A HYUNDAI ENGINEER HAD TO COME OUT AND HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY VERIFIED THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER. THEY REMOVED THE REINFORCEMENT CAP AND SHOCK TOWER AND FOUND TWO SPOTS MISSED BY FACTORY WELDER, WHICH DID NOT PROPERLY ADHERE THE STRUT TOWER TO THE CAR BODY AND SIGNS OF RUBBING MAKING THE NOISE. THEY WERE ABLE TO CLEAN UP THE AREA AND RE-WELD THE PIECE TOGETHER. THEY REINSTALLED THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER AND REINFORCEMENT CAP TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. I AM TOLD THAT HYUNDAI NOW HAS A FILE ON MY CAR. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012. A FULL TWO WEEKS AFTER I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE NOISE.
