The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while in the process of parking the vehicle at the residence and driving 1-5 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and hit another unoccupied parked vehicle, causing the other vehicle to move 50-60 ft. away. The rear end of the other vehicle was damaged, and the front end of the contact's vehicle was damaged. The air bags did not deployed. There was no injury sustained. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Car has a ticking sound, car has died on me multiple times. The vehicle has stopped moving regardless of pressing on accelerator and died leaving me stranded, feeling unsafe. I have been driving at 40 mph and then seem to lose power, making it to where can only go 10 to 20 mph or totally dying. I was also having issues with key fobs not working. Door would open, unlock and then not, car stalling. No lights illuminating on dash. Battery in fob replaced after car being towed to shop after stalling, dying issue and I was basically told they didn't know what was up with the stalling, maybe fobs. I had an oil change done and full diagnostic, sent on way without answers. Happened again, electrical issues, fob not working, stalling, start hesitation and dying, no power. I had it towed to different shop and was told had couple of codes showing up even though no check engine light on, they stated a caliper was leaking along with other oil leak and crankshaft sensor needed replaced, which got fixed. The car has 98000 miles on it (around there) and I see safety recall posted. I finance this car and have literally only had it not even 5 months. I do not feel safe driving it. I've been stranded, at times key fobs and locks act up on it still, the ticking is definitely a concern, RPMS off and revs up at times while also lacking pick up and go. I contacted my local Hyundai and they stated no resolution on safety recall yet, can schedule an appointment and pay for diagnostic, which would make my 3rd diagnostic over the last month or so. I need something remedied. I transport myself and at times my children and I do not feel safe in this vehicle which again purchased just about 5 months ago from Car Max. Help please!
The driver owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra with 37,657 miles. While slowly turning left into a parking space, the car had a sudden acceleration event. The Elantra sped into the parking space and ran over two concrete parking spot blocks. The Elantra glanced off a grey pickup truck and scraped by a grey SUV. The Elantra entered the empty parking space opposite the SUV and proceeded to impact the side of a blue car in an adjacent spot. The blue car stopped the Elantra. Fortunately, the other affected vehicles were unoccupied and no pedestrians were present. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Elantra air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the driver's residence and is available for inspection along with all maintenance records. A claim has been filed with insurance; the appraiser came yesterday. There was no warning or symptoms of a problem prior to the accident. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by anyone. The police came and helped identify the owners of the other vehicles.
At approximately 35,000 to 45,000 miles my car started stopping violently on its own. It would jerk violently,make loud grinding and squealing noises and stop randomly on its own free will. This started happening repeatedly. Then after it would happen the car would not go when pressing the gas pedal. It would take quite a while before the car would get momentum back. This became very dangerous to myself and my kids. I purchased this car brand new. I got rid of it by trading it in at 78,000 miles. I contacted Hyundai and tried to resolve the issue and they were no help whatsoever.
I have an 8 year old 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. For the past month I have had several incidences where the accelerator to the car does not work. This has occurred getting on the freeway, going up hills, attempting to "go" when stopped at a red light, etc. The accelerator virtually does not work even though my foot is pressed on the gas pedal to the floor board. There are not safety warnings on the dashboard to warn me of this malfunction. The check engine light has come on and off but not consistent with these episodes. I have taken the car to the Hyundai dealer for service and they have been unable to find the problem telling me the codes are all ok and that the technician drove the car several miles and could not replicate the problem. I have found several blogs and posts with the exact same problem I have been having. I cannot drive my car for fear of it not accelerating as I get onto the freeway with the cars honking at me as I have had to manually move my car out of oncoming traffic. I told the dealer when I took it in today not to give it back until they tell me what the problem is. I can't even trade it in knowing it is unsafe to drive due to the "mysterious" accelerator problem. The dealer states the problem could be due to many reasons but it will be cost prohibitive to attempt to just go through a list in an attempt to find the problem. I know there is no recall on this issue but it is a serious safety hazard. I don't know what to do.
SUDDENLY MY CAR DEVELOPED A NEW ISSUE OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE STOPPED/IDLE. WHILE MY FOOT IS ON GAS, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD/RPM INCREASE. HOWEVER, SO FAR WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE, I HAVEN'T MOVED AS FAR AS I CAN TELL BUT FEARFUL IT MIGHT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING OR IT WILL DRIVE FORWARD EVEN WITH FOOT ON BRAKE.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND WAS ALMOST RUN INTO BY SEVERAL CARS BEHIND AND BESIDE THE CAR. THE CARS ENGINE HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE SEIZED UP EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO WARNING OF EITHER LOW OIL PRESSURE OR HIGH ENGINE TEMP OR ANY ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. THIS COLD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER HAD THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE HAD NOT TAKEN HEROIC MEASURES TO GET THE VEHICLE SAFELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. THIS ACTION COULD HAVE CAUSED THE DRIVER AND POSSIBLY THE OTHER VEHICLES BESIDE AND BEHIND SERIOUS INJURIES AND OR POSSIBLY A FATALITY. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE OTHERS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE OVER IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SHAFFER HYUNDAI WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BAR FAILED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING AN ODOR OF BURNING OIL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND THE OIL AND BATTERY INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE WEBB HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED SHORTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY ON THIS 2013 ELANTRA GT. THE "SET" BUTTON DOSE NOT ENGAGE OR ACTIVATE CRUISE CONTROL. IT "CANCELS IT. HOWEVER, PRESSING THE CANCEL' BUTTON DOES NOT DIS-ENGAGE OR STOP THE CRUISE CONTROL IT ACTUALLY ACTIVATES IT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
THE CAR ACCELERATES WITHOUT MY INTENTION. I CAN BE DRIVING MY CAR AND THE (STREET OR HWY IN MOTION) WHILE DRIVING THE CAR/ENGINE ACCELERATES. I WAS IN DISBELIEF BUT AFTER IT HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES, REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL AND STILL HEARING THE ACCELERATION, IT FREAKS ME OUT. SCARES ME TO DEATH.

PER INSURANCE INSTRUCTIONS CAR WAS TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALER.AFTER A VERY EXPENSIVE FRONT END REPAIR THE SERVICE DEPT "TESTED" THE CAR AND PRONOUNCED IT IN GOOD CONDITION-NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR.THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP INSISTS HE DOES NOT KNOW OF ANY OTHER 2013 ELANTRA HAVING THIS PROBLEM. 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON DECEMBER 24, 2013, THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED ON A ROAD WITH A 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT. WITHOUT ANY DEVIATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE JUMPED TO 60 MPH. WHILE AT THE SUBSEQUENT STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE'S RPM'S REMAINED HIGH (APPROXIMATELY OVER 5,500 RPM). THE ELANTRA WAS THEN DRIVEN TO A HOME DEPOT PARKING LOT. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, RPM'S CLIMBED TO 5,000 (WHILE IN "PARK"). NO OTHER MODULES WERE BEING USED AT THIS TIME - INCLUDING CRUISE CONTROL OR "ECO BOOST." THE VEHICLE'S RPM RATE REMAINED AT AROUND 2,500-3,000 ONCE PUT INTO "DRIVE", RESULTING IN THE SPEED REACHING APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. THIS IS WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AND TRAVELING OVER SMALL HILLS AND GRADE VARIANTS. SUMMARY: WHILE 2013 ELANTRA IS IN PARK, RPM'S REST AT 5,000. WHILE IN DRIVE, RPM''S BOTTOM OUT AT 2,500-3,000, DISALLOWING THE ABILITY TO NATURALLY STOP. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO RESIDE IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE COMPONENTS LOCATED THEREIN. I BOUGHT A USED 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH 29,802 MILES ON IT ON OCTOBER 6, 2014. BY FEBRUARY 2015 I STARTED HEARING A TAPPING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND A NOISE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL WHICH STOPPED WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY 2015 AND IT WAS DETERMINED I NEEDED MY ENGINE REPLACED. HYUNDAI AGREED TO REPLACE IT UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. I HAD 32,500 I BELIEVE MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MULTIPLE CARS SITTING ON THEIR LOT WHICH NEEDED THEIR ENGINES REPLACED. WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR A RENTAL CAR BUSINESS TO COME PICK ME UP AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO GET ME A RENTAL CAR TO DRIVE WHILE MY CAR WAS WAITING TO BE FIXED, I SPOKE TO A COUPLE WHO CAME IN TO DROP OFF THEIR RENTAL CAR. THEIR 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA NEEDED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT AS WELL--AT 23,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THESE CARS HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS MORE OFTEN IN THE NORTHEAST DUE TO THE MORE SEVERE WEATHER IN THE WINTER. I SO REGRET EVER BUYING MY FIRST EVER HYUNDAI VEHICLE! *TR

BETWEEN THIS DATE AND LATE 11/2013 THERE HAVE BEEN 9 INSTANCES OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. 1.BACKING OUT OF PARKING LOT AT STORE 1/1/2013CAR ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 2.IN 2/2013, ENTERING OUR HOMES GARAGE, WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 2MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 3.IN 5/2013, WHILE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 4.AROUND 9/2013, WE WERE MOVING SLOWLY,'LESS THAN 10 MPG- AND TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 5.AROUND 10/6/2013 WE WERE PULLING INTO OUR SONS DRIVEWAY. WE WERE MOVING SLOWLY WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ITS FORWARD MOVEMENT WHEN IT HIT A DECORATIVE STONE COLUMN. REPAIRS WERE APPROX. $1750 TO REPAIR. 6.LATER IN 10/2013, WE WERE SLOWING DOWN AS WE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN THE CAR UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 7.IN 11/2013, WE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR EVENT AS IN #6 WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. 8.LATER IN 11/2013, WE WERE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE WHEN THE CAR UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED FORWARD. 9.AGAIN IN 11/2013 WE WERE ACCELERATING AS WE WERE ENTERING THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED VERY RAPIDLY EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE DRIVER'S FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE EVALUATED WITH ENGINEERS; DRIVEN WITH THE MAIN DRIVER TO INSURE IT IS BEING DRIVEN CORRECTLY. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A POLE. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY HOWEVER, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT ANKLE, MID SECTION AND THE SPINAL CORD. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,278.
VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AFTER PRESSING BRAKES AND TRYING TO PARK: AS I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE (LESS THAN 5 MPH), IN FRONT OF A GROCERY STORE TO PARK THE CAR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, HIT A LIGHTING POLE AND COMPLETELY DAMAGED THE FRONT OF THE CAR. PRESSING THE BRAKES EVEN HARDER COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A HALT AS IT HIT THE POLE (THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED). THE AIR BAG DID NOT COME ON, MY HEAD AND NECK HIT THE BRAKES. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT INJURED AND NO ONE ELSE WAS EITHER. MY WIFE WAS TRYING TO PARK HER CAR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT HER TOUCHING THE GAS OR THE BRAKE. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP BY SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. I'VE HEARD RECENT CASES OF PEOPLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP WHEN THIS HAPPENS. *TR
