NHTSA Campaign: 16V209000
Component: SEAT BELTS
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.
Risk: If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15822.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V437000
Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 851)
Engine →5 issues
Your 6.2L engine has experienced repeated valvetrain problems, requiring repairs twice in three months. The engine failed unexpectedly on the highway when the warning light came on, causing your truck to lose power and coast to a stop. This appears to be a documented issue that GM service technicians are aware of. Repair will likely involve complete valvetrain inspection and replacement of failed components.

Your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 stalled unexpectedly while stopped at a stop sign, with no warning lights appearing beforehand. The vehicle was towed home, but the dealer did not diagnose or repair the issue. You researched a potential recall but discovered your VIN wasn't covered. The stalling occurred around 81,000 miles and the manufacturer has not been notified of this failure. A proper diagnosis at a dealer is needed to identify the cause of the stalling, which could involve fuel system, ignition system, or engine control components.

Your engine's lifter on cylinder 4 failed completely, bending the intake valve push rod and disabling that cylinder. The check engine light came on and the engine began misfiring while you were driving normally, with no warning signs beforehand. The dealership confirmed this damage is related to the cylinder deactivation system and noted that the original lifters appear to be defective; they've seen this same failure repeatedly on cylinder 4 across both 5.3L and 6.2L engines. Fixing this requires replacing the lifters, though in severe cases metal debris from the failure can damage the camshaft, requiring a complete engine rebuild.

Your engine stalls when driving at low speeds. Your vehicle is showing fault codes for a stuck oil pressure solenoid and a camshaft timing problem. The engine may not be receiving proper oil pressure or the camshaft timing may be out of sync, both of which can cause stalling. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the oil pressure solenoid and possibly adjusting or replacing camshaft timing components.

Steering,fuel System, Gasoline →1 issue
While driving at 25-30 mph, your power steering suddenly stopped working, leaving you without power assist for steering. Your check engine light also came on because your fuel tank cap was missing. The dealer diagnosed a short circuit in the steering gear as the cause, though the manufacturer confirmed your vehicle wasn't covered under the related recall. Fixing this will likely require replacement or repair of the steering gear assembly.

Structure →1 issue
Your truck's frame has severely rusted and can no longer pass safety inspection. A certified mechanic determined the rust has compromised the structural integrity, requiring welding to repair. Your truck cannot be safely driven in this condition, as a weakened frame could fail during a collision or normal driving, potentially causing loss of control or failure to protect occupants. The repair will require professional frame welding and likely additional rust treatment to restore structural integrity.

Service Brakes →1 issue
When you press the brake pedal multiple times, your brakes lock up repeatedly instead of responding normally. This has happened more than once, indicating it's an ongoing issue rather than a one-time occurrence. You should have a mechanic inspect your brake system, master cylinder, and brake lines to identify what's causing the repeated lockup.

Power Train →1 issue
Your transmission has failed twice—once at 113,000 miles and again after only 40,000 miles on a factory rebuilt replacement. The 6L80 transmission appears to be locking up due to torque converter failure, and you're now facing a third transmission replacement at the dealership. General Motors has declined to help cover the cost of repairs despite your complaint.

Suspension,power Train,engine →1 issue
Your transmission is shifting hard, especially in the lower gears and when going into reverse. You've also noticed the transmission fluid has a burnt smell, which suggests the transmission may be overheating. This typically requires a transmission fluid and filter change, and possibly inspection for internal transmission damage.

Suspension,structure →1 issue
While driving over a bump at 45 mph, your truck bounced and made an abnormal banging sound from the rear. A mechanic discovered extensive corrosion on the rear cross members, shock absorber supports, and rear sub frame, causing the shock absorbers to strike the truck bed. The corrosion has weakened the suspension structure, and the shock absorbers need to be replaced along with inspection and possible replacement of the corroded support components.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your truck randomly shuts off while driving slowly or turning right, and sometimes won't start at all with no electrical power or keyless entry response. The dashboard lights also act erratically—they won't turn off, flash unexpectedly, or only partially go off. This issue has happened repeatedly since 2020 even after two repair attempts under GMC recall 17276. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and replacing faulty electrical components in the starting system or body control module.
