Sometimes the past 2 half years the power steering goes out, a few years ago i took it to a dealer they did not find anything but its dangerous. I just seen on like that you all have a recall for it but its not showing on my VIN number,
purchased the car from some that passed away and did not get these items fixed before I got it. coverter/ lossing/using oil, and electric power steering system problem

My car was purchased used at a Chevrolet dealership. I noticed right away that the carjerks when I accelerate, it also stalls when trying to accelerate when making a turn which cam cause an accident. The vehicle revs and slowly moves and then takes off. Its a dragging motion when driving its very slow. The steering wheel locks when turning as if I need power steering fluid. This car is a hazard, waiting to happen. When starting it, it makes this loud humming noise. I just had it inspected and the mechanic said the car was fine, but driving it is a different story.
Once on a while the power steering locks for approximately 3 or 4 seconds and a light that’s looks like some pliers lights up. It probably be a issue with the power steering motor.

CAR "STABILITRAK ICON" AND SERVICE STABILITRAK" MSG & "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR" LIGHT, THEN "BRAKE ICON" AND "ABS ICON" WITH "SERVICE POWER STEERING" MSG, THEN "SERVICE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM" MSG - ALL WHILE THE ICONS ARE ON - CAR LOST ALL POWER. CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NJ TURNPIKE AT ALMOST EXIT 18E/W. HAD VEHICLE TOWED, TOOK FIRST TO FIRESTONE A DAY LATER, THE FOUND A CODE THEY SAID NEEDED THE CHEVY COMPUTERS (P069E, U0073, D1231) - TOOK TO CHEVY A WEEK LATER (BELLAVIA CHEVY, RUTHERFORD, NJ), DEALER SAID THEY FOUND NO CODES - COULD BE THE BATTERY. WE CLEANED THE PORTS, CHANGED THE BATTERY. HAD NEW TIRES INSTALLED AT FIRESTONE ON 4/9. 4/9 PICKED UP THE CAR, THIS TIME DRIVING FROM NORTHERN NJ TO BROOKLYN AND THE EXACT SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VERRIZANO BRIDGE IN STATEN ISLAND. ALL THE SAME LIGHTS / SYMPTOMS AS ABOVE, LOST ALL POWER. MANAGED TO GET OFF AT THE 92ND STREET EXIT AND INTO A PARKING SPACE - TOWED TO PARENTS HOUSE IN BROOKLYN, MADE APPT W/ CHEVY DEALER FOR MONDAY 4/12 (BAY RIDGE CHEVROLET OF BROOKLYN). VEHICLE IS NOW WITH THEM, AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC - THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND FOR THE FIRST DEALER TO NOT BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE / GET A CODE AND THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I'M NOW OVER 500.00 IN DIAGNOSTICS FEES THAT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. BOTH TIMES WERE HIGHWAY DRIVING, WEATHER CONDITIONS WE GOOD BOTH DAYS.
MY ABS AND STABILITRACK LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WAS TOLD IT'S A BAD SENSOR AND REPLACE WHEN POSSIBLE. ON THE WAY TO TAKE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, (NO WARNING LIGHTS PRESENTED) I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25 MPH THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN I DEPRESSED MY BRAKES. IMMEDIATELY THE ABS AND STABILITRACK LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS MORE THAN 1/2' AND MADE A GEAR LOCKING SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP USING MANUAL DOWNSHIFT AND PUMPING THE BRAKES. WHEN PRESENTING TO MECHANIC, I WAS ADVISED TO ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE. READ THAT AGAIN. I WAS ADVISED TO ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE A BRAKE FAILURE.
2.4 LITER ECOTECH ENGINE USED IN 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX IS IN CURRENT RECALL BY GM. GM IS USING VIN NUMBER TO PREVENT RECALL REPAIR TO VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2018 DURING RECALL. LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR WITH SUBSTANTIAL COST UP FRONT. DEALER IS AWARE OF ISSUE WITH VEHICLE FROM CONVERSATION WITH LEAD TECHNICIAN WHO HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO DETER ANY REPAIR OF THIS VEHICLE TO UP FRONT COSTS ONLY. VIN WILL NOT SHOW RECALL DUE TO GENERAL MOTORS COST OF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED AT LEAST 6 POWER STEERING FAILURES WHILE DRIVING IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS (JULY 2020 THRU JAN 2021) THAT ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. FAILURES HAVE HAPPENED FROM 15 MPH TO 60 MPH. ELECTRIC ASSIST SHUTS OFF AND WARNING INDICATOR FOR POWER STEERING SERVICE COMES ON. DO NOT NEED TO BE TURNING IN ANY SIGNIFICANT WAY OR IN ANY PARTICULAR DIRECTION TO TRIGGER IT. HAPPENED ON HOT DAY IN JULY AND COLD DAY IN JANUARY AND TIMES IN BETWEEN. STEERING, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS, BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT. POWER STEERING CAN USUALLY BE RESTORED BY STOPPING VEHICLE AND TURNING SUV OFF FOR TENS OF SECONDS, SOMETIMES AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. POWER STEERING FUSE SEEMS TO BE FINE. IT SEEMS LIKE GM HAS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN OTHER VEHICLES. I HAVE NOT SOUGHT REPAIR YET BECAUSE I CAN'T PRODUCE THE PROBLEM ON DEMAND.
POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY STOPS WORKING . IT DID IT TO MY WIFE ON 6/8/20 IN THE RAIN .IT DID IT TO ME 6/9/20. IT WAS DRY. IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO ME . IT DOES NOT STALL NO LIGHTS OR ANYTHING IT JUST STOP WORKING .ALWAYS WHEN TURN RIGHT . MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IM NOT SURE MY WIFE WILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT, *TR
LAST YEAR OUR TRANSFER CASE BROKE. FORTUNATELY THE FAILURE WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WE AVOIDED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO THE COMPLETE FREEZING UP OF THE FRONT END. WE SIMPLY STARTED DRIVING AND THERE WAS A LOUD CRACK AND THEN THE STEERING FROZE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, COLLISION OR ANY OFF ROAD OR ON ROAD EXPERIENCE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. IT WAS CLEARLY A MAJOR PART THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL THIS WAY. THE MECHANICS HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. OTHERS SINCE HAVE SUGGESTED WE FILE A COMPLAINT AND SEEK COMPENSATION BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE. WE HAVE WRITTEN GM AND INCLUDED PHOTOS. IN JAN 5 2016 MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX MILEAGE 56747 WOULD JUST STALL WITHOUT WARNING AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF STEERING. DRIVING ON THE HWY IT JUST KILLED AND STARTED BUT DIDN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THEN STALLED AGAIN COULDN'T STEER. GOT IT TO RAY CHEVROLET IT WAS MY CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE IN SEPT.2016 MILEAGE 80584 I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN AND IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVES AND IT BURNT MY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT AKA COMPUTER WHICH COST ME $800.00. SKIPPING FORWARD BUT NOT WITHOUT PROBLEMS THERE ARE MANY. AUG. 2019, I AM HAVING TO CHANGE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVES AGAIN DO TO STALLING ON THE ROAD WHILE I'M DRIVING NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER FOR THE THIRD TIME. IT'S SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITHOUT WARNING IT WILL KILL ON YOU FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. THEN I WENT CHANGE MY OIL LIKE CLOCK WORK AND WAS TOLD I HAVE A VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK TO GO WITH THE SOLENOID PROBLEM. IT'S SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FACT IT WILL STALL AT ANYTIME. IN AUG. 2019 MY PRESSURE SENSOR FOR MY RIGHT TIRE WENT OUT. NOW I CAN'T GET IT TO RESET AND MECHANIC TRIED AND SAID SENSOR NEEDS TO BE CHANGED REALLY. I CAN'T TELL IF I HAVE A LOW TIRE IT JUST SHOWS BLANK LINE ON ALL TIRES. NOW MY ACTUATOR BEND DOOR BROKE ON DEFROST AND IT'S HOT IN LOUISIANA. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO. TRAVELING STRAIGHT ON CITY STREET, 30 MPH, WAS T-BONED IN CENTER OF DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY? DAMAGE TO BOTH DOORS, CENTER AND LOWER PILLAR, AND THE TRACTION CONTROL BAR BENT. CONCUSSION AND BRUISING FROM INSIDE PILLAR TO DRIVER. DRIVER WAS WEARING SEAT BELT AT TIME OF COLLISION
WHILE DRIVING CAR TREMBLED A LITTLE A MINUTE OR SO BEFORE IT SEEMINGLY LOST POWER, NO ACCELERSTION, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. LIGHTS REMAINED ON DASH BUT NO POWER. NO WARNING LIGHTS. NOTHING. THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP NEAR SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THEBKEY AND CAR STARTED LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THANKFUL I WAS EXITING A PARKING LOT, AND WASNT ON THE HIGHWAY LIKE I WAS JUST A FEW HOURS PRIOR. I COULDVE BEEN KILLED
ON JUNE 4, 2018 I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AFTER AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED. UPON LEAVING THE PARKING LOT, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. AT A CERTAIN POINT IN THE TURN, THE WHEEL VIOLENTLY JERKS BACK TO THE CENTER POSITION. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND IT WAS IDENTIFIED AS ANOTHER SPECIAL REPAIR BULLETIN ISSUED BY GM ON THIS SPECIFIC MAKE/MODEL. ON THURSDAY, JUNE 7TH, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE. WHEN I ARRIVED TO PICK THE CAR UP, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE INFORMED ME THAT WHILE DRIVING IT FROM THE SERVICE CENTER TO THE FRONT OF THE DEALERSHIP HE NOTICED THE ISSUE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. CALLED THE FOLLOWING DAY, JUNE 8TH, WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. PICKED IT UP, DROVE ABOUT 100 MILES BEFORE THE ISSUE REAPPEARED, THIS TIME WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. MANAGED TO PARK THE CAR FOR 10 MINUTES, PROBLEM RESOLVED. PROBLEM REAPPEARED 50 MILES LATER. DISAPPEARED AND REAPPEARED FOR THE NEXT 200 MILES. CAR IS BACK WITH DEALER. NO INDICATION IF IT CAN OR WILL BE REPAIRED. THE CAR IS DANGEROUS. WHEN ACTIVELY MALFUNCTIONING, WHICH COULD START AND STOP AT ANY TIME, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO NAVIGATE A LEFT TURN, IT IS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT LANES, I SUSPECT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO QUICKLY VEER LEFT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I'VE BEEN ADVISED TO TRADE THE CAR IN. THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY HAS TWO IDENTICAL MAKE/MODEL YEARS FOR SALE ON THE LOT. IN ADDITION TO ALL OF THE OTHER ISSUES GM HAS SOLD WITH THIS CAR, THE NEW STEERING ISSUE IS GOING TO HURT OR KILL SOMEONE. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT DOES.
I OWN A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX LS AWD WITH ROUGHLY 86,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING BACK AN APPOINTMENT THIS MORNING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND THE "ENGINE REDUCED POWER"/"SERVICE STABILITRAK SYSTEM" LIGHTS TURNED ON. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MORNING TRAFFIC THAT WAS GOING 70MPH (THE SPEED LIMIT) AND HIGHER. THE VEHICLE'S RPM REDUCED SUDDENLY AND DRASTICALLY, AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO SUSTAIN 40MPH. I WAS ALONE. I COASTED OFF THE HIGHWAY AS QUICKLY AS I COULD, STOPPED AT THE MULTI-LANE INTERSECTION, AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I COULD NOT RESTART IT. IT WAS 9 DEGREES OUTSIDE WITH SNOW ON THE GROUND, AND THE HEAT STOPPED WORKING IN THE VEHICLE, TOO. THE POWER STEERING SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO WAIT OUTSIDE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC SO THAT I WOULD NOT GET HIT. IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. AFTER THE TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED ME THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, QUOTING ME BETWEEN $2300 FOR A USED ENGINE AND $6500 FOR A NEW ONE. CORPORATE HAS ONLY OFFERED 10% COST SHARE FOR A NEW ENGINE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND A KNOWN ISSUE BASED ON CONSUMER COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ. THE COMPLAINTS ARE CONSISTENT AND POINT TO ENGINE FAILURE WITH TOTAL REPLACEMENT IN THE RANGE I WAS QUOTED. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, AND IT IS A SHAME THAT A VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES AND YEARS NEEDS THIS TYPE OF REPAIR! FURTHERMORE, I COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR WORSE, AS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHERS! THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD NO COLLISIONS, NO MAJOR DAMAGES, AND I HAVE KEPT UP WITH ALL RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE. NOW I HAVE NO VEHICLE, NO POSSIBILITY TO RECOVER ITS VALUE, AND I AM DEVASTATED ABOUT THE FINANCIAL BLOW.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STOP WORKING, THIS WOULD HAPPEN DURING HIGHER SPEEDS ON HIGHWAYS AS WELL AS SLOWER SPEEDS IN NEIGHBORHOODS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD CEASE AND AN INDICATOR WOULD COME ON THE DASHBOARD TO SERVICE THE POWER STEERING. AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESUME.
I KEEP HAVING ISSUES WITH THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. CONTINUES TO SAY STABILITY TRACT, TRACTION CONTROL, ABS OFF. ISSUES WITH WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.
THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING AND THE SERVICE POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THERE IS A BUMP, HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME. POWER STEERING WILL BEGIN WORKING AGAIN AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE TRACTION/STABILIZER CONTROL TURNED ON WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT AND A MESSAGE STATED SLOWING DOWN. THEN THE TRUCK STAYED AT 20MPH, I WAS KINDA ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST HIT SOMEONE. THE ENGINE SOUND GOOD. OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WHY IS IT NOT A RECALL. *TR

VEHICLE ENGINE STALLED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT 35 MPH RESULTING IN IMPAIRED STEERING ABILITY, AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL IN A ROAD CURVE. A CRASH WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. NO WARNING LIGHT OR OPERATOR NOTIFICATION WAS PRESENT PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. ODB SCAN CODES INDICATED A P0010 CODE 'CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE'. VEHICLE STALLED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON AT LEAST 5 OTHER OCCASIONS RETURNING VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. SERVICE HISTORY INDICATES THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN 2011 DUE TO IDENTICAL FAILURE MODE AND FAULT CODE, THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT SOLENOID FAILED WITH CODE P0011 AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN 2015, AND THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID FAILED AGAIN IN 2016 AT 34,681 TOTAL VEHICLE MILES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN OPERATED IN NOMINAL CITY DRIVING CONDITIONS WITH CONSISTENT MAINTENANCE OF THE OIL AND OIL FILTER PER THE OEM OIL LIFE MONITOR. THE THIRD FAILURE OF THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID WAS CHARGED AT CUSTOMER EXPENSE. REPEAT FAILURE OF THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID ACTUATOR INDICATED AN UNMITIGATED PRODUCT DESIGN ISSUE RESULTING IN ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND IMPAIRED STEERING CONTROL.
UPON DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK WITH MY TWO KIDS IN THE CAR, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AS WELL AS STABILITRAC AND TRACTION CONTROL. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO MORE THAN 20MPH AND THEN DIED ON ME. I CONTACTED GM, RECEIVED A CLAIM NUMBER AND THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK AS PROMISED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE ON MY WAY IN FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN. AS A RESULT OF THIS, I TOLD MY HUSBAND I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH OUR KIDS IN THE CAR AND WE WOULD TRADE CARS UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE FOLLOWING MORNING MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE EQUINOX TO WORK AND IT HAPPENED TO HIM, "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" LOSS OF STABILITRAC/ TRACTION CONTROL. UNFORTUNATELY, HE WASN'T AS LUCKY AS ME AND WAS ON A TURN WHEN THIS SUDDENLY HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING HIM TO LOSE TRACTION, STEERING CONTROL AND CRASHING INTO A DITCH. NOW WE HAVE AN INSURANCE CLAIM TO DEAL WITH AND ONLY ONE CAR. GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THEY HAD A RECALL ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR MODEL. NOT UNTIL 13 PEOPLE DIE WILL THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AS PROVEN IN THE PAST. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, FAULTY DEADLY VEHICLES! BY THE WAY, NEARLY 48 HOURS LATER AND I HAVE STILL NOT HEARD BACK FROM GM AFTER A PROMISE OF A CALL BACK WITHIN 2 HOURS!
AFTER TAKING THE CAR OUT FROM A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR ON PARK ONCE THE CAR STALLED AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION. I THEN TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. ONCE I REACHED MY DESTINATION I TURNED OFF AND ON THE IGNITION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON TAKING TO THE MECHANIC THEY FOUND OUT THE CAM SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD SON AND 15 YEAR OLD NEPHEW ON A 35 MPH BUSY STREET WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL LOCK ON ME I COULDN'T MOVE THE LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CAR COMING AT THE MOMENT, AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK UP. AFTER THAT I IT STARTED UP AGAIN AND NOTHING SEEM TO BE WRONG UNTIL THE ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON AND I CONTINUED ON MY WAY, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ON THE DASH BOARD IT SAID STABILITY CHECK/LOST ENGINE POWER AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF ON ME. I COULDN'T MOVE TO FROM LANES TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT LUCKILY THE VEHICLES ON BACK OF ME NOTICE MY VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN AND THEY WHERE ABLE TO MISS HITTING MY VEHICLE. I REALLY DO WANT SOMETHING DONE TO FIX THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I COULD OF CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WITH THAT SUDDEN STOP AND ALL BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE POWERING OFF. I BELIEVE SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE A.S.A.P. BEFORE ON OF ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE PUTTING THEIR COMPLAINS END UP DEAD OR CAUSING A DEADLY ACCIDENT. MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. I WOULD START THE CAR AND ALL MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS WOULD START FLASHING. EMERGENCY BLINKERS, AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT, STABILITY TRACK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WOULD START TO DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULD JUST STALL OUT. IF I AM DRIVING BELOW 10 MILES AN HOUR, THE CAR WILL TURN OFF. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND MY CAR STALLED OUT IN THE ONCOMING LANES ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AFTER TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS IN THE POSITION IT IS IN. WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL THERE IS A RESISTANCE AND THEN IT BREAKS FREE FROM THAT POSITION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MAKE ABRUPT MOVEMENT EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT DEPENDING ON WHICH WAY YOU WERE ATTEMPTING TO STEER. IT THEN WORKS FINE FOR AWHILE AND WILL DO THE SAME THING AGAIN. *TR
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND FIDDLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL IT FINALLY UNLOCKED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME AND TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, I NOTICED IT WAS BENT. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MALOUF CHEVROLET WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY FOR SERVICE, THEY CLAIMED THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I DID HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW KEY IN WHICH I WAS CHARGED $80.72. THEN MONDAY NIGHT 3/10/14, I WENT SHOPPING, RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE, INSERTED MY KEY AND COULD NOT TURN THE CAR ON, IT WAS LOCKED UP AGAIN. I HAVE AN AUTO START ON MY VEHICLE WHICH I USED AND THEN WAS ABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. *TR
BOUGHT THE EQUINOX NEW IN APRIL 11 FOR MY DAUGHTER. HAD IT ABOUT 6 +/- MONTHS AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. IT WOULD LOOSE POWER ALL OF A SUDDEN AND ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STEERING WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY HARD TO DO. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION ONCE, REPLACED ALOT OF FUSES AND WORKED ON THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES. THERE ARE STILL PROBLEMS. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, MY VEHICLE TOOK A HARD SHARP RIGHT WHILE I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE. IF A CAR HAD BEEN BESIDE ME I WOULD OF CRASHED. I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE SO, I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE TIRES AND ALL WERE FINE. AS I GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE MY VEHICLE KEPT PULLING RIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL "STICK" WHEN TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. WHEN YOU GO TO MAKE A SLIGHT CORRECTION, IT WILL TAKE EXTRA EFFORT TO MOVE THE WHEEL DUE TO THIS "STICKING". THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER. THE FIRST TIME WAS CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE STEERING GEAR. SECOND TIME WAS TO REPLACE THE REPLACEMENT STEERING GEAR DUE TO A CODE ERROR. IT IS NOW BACK INTO THE DEALER DUE TO THE SAME STICKING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS USUALLY HAPPENS AT HIGHER HIGHWAY SPEEDS, BUT IT HAPPENED AT A LOWER SPEED (35 MPH) DURING A SNOW STORM AND CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO SLIDE SLIGHTLY SIDEWAYS. MY WIFE DROVE MY CAR AND NOTICED WHEN THE WHEELS TURNED IN ANY FASHION/WAY/MANNER, THAT THERE WAS A LOUD GROWLIG NOISE AND RUBBING SOUND IN THE WHEELS. NOTE: THE WHEELS ONLY HAD TO TURN SLIGHTLY WHEN THIS WAS FELT IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION ON BOTH FRONT FLOORBOARDS. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WE WERE TOLD THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS, AND HOPEFULLY GM WILL FIND A SOLUTION. THUS FAR THE DEALERS HAVE CHANGED OUT STEERING COLUMNS WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID WE HAVE A CASE NUMBER AND WHEN GM FIGURES OUT HOW TO FIX IT, WE WILL BE NOTIFIED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 GMC EQUINOX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE EXTREME PRESSURE IN ORDER TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,200.

I WAS DRIVING ON A FOUR LANE STREET WITH TWO LANES GOING SOUTH WITH A MEDIAN IN THE MIDDLE AND TWO LANES GOING NORTH. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE GOING SOUTH TOWARDS 1-70 AND WAS GOING AROUND A SLIGHT CORNER TOWARDS THE LEFT AND TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN OUT MY WHEEL AND MY WHEEL WAS STUCK TURNING LEFT. I TRIED AGAIN TO GET MY WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN OUT, AND IT WAS STUCK. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE AND WENT OVER THE MEDIAN SEPARATING THE 4 WAY LANES. I HIT A LARGE STREET SIGNS AND MULTIPLE REFLECTORS ON THE MEDIAN. UPON IMPACT MULTIPLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS APPEARED AND WHEEL WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MAKE A TURN TO RIGHT TO GET TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS OLD AND WAS A BRAND NEW 2011 EQUINOX. WHEN I WENT TO REPORT THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM AFTER THE ACCIDENT THE CAR SALES MAN THERE SAID "OH THIS HAS NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE WITH ANY YEARS OF THE EQUINOX'S".....HATE TO BREAK IT TO HIM BUT LOOKS LIKE MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR STEERING AND WHEEL ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL. ON 2/21/11, I WAS OPERATING MY 2010 CHEVY "EQUINOX" ON I-95. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND HALF START I BEGAN TO HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS. TRAVELING AT A SUSTAINED SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 70MPH I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STICKING, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. THE LONGER I TRAVELED, THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE. THIS SITUATION CONTINUED FOR AT LEAST FOUR HOURS, UNTIL I LEFT THE INTERSTATE AND ENTERED A SECONDARY HIGHWAY, WHERE THE SPEED WAS SLOWER AND MORE TRAFFIC, WHICH REQUIRED MORE MOVEMENT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS SITUATION KIND OF CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD 26,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN OPERATED IN THIS TYPE OF DRIVING NUMEROUS TIMES. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO "STICK" AT SLOWER SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC. BUT I FEEL IT COULD CATCH AN INDIVIDUAL OFF GUARD, WHO MAY NOT BE AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (2/22/11) THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM NOR DID THE COMPUTER INDICATE SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET/GMC VIA PHONE AND E-MAIL. THEIR RESPONSE EACH TIME LEFT ME WITH THE IMPRESSION THEY APPRECIATED THE INFORMATION. I'VE INDICATED TO THEM THEY HAVE A SLEEPER WITH THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE, THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE OR IF THEY HAD A PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS A PROBLEM "A SLEEPER". AND ACCORDING TO THE WEB I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A PROBLEM, WHICH COULD LED TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
