NHTSA Campaign: 10V575000
Component: CHILD SEAT
GM IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2011, CHEVROLET COLORADO, GMC CANYON, MODEL YEAR 2006, ISUZU I-280/I-350, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2008, I-290/I-370, REGULAR CAB VEHICLES AND EXTENDED CAB VEHICLES WITHOUT A REAR SEAT AND EQUIPPED WITH A FRONT 60/40 SPLIT BENCH SEAT. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 225, "CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS." THE TOP TETHER ANCHOR FOR THE FRONT CENTER SEAT IS NOT ACCESSIBLE AND THE OWNER MANUAL DOES NOT INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING HOW TO USE THE TOP TETHER.
Risk: BOTH NHTSA AND GM DISCOURAGE PLACEMENT OF A CHILD IN A FRONT SEAT. NEVERTHELESS, THERE ARE INDIVIDUAL CIRCUMSTANCES THAT MAY REQUIRE PLACEMENT OF A CHILD IN A RESTRAINT IN THE FRONT CENTER SEATING POSITION OF THIS VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT OFFER A REAR SEAT. LACK OF ACCESS TO THE TOP TETHER ANCHOR AND A LACK OF INSTRUCTIONS AS TO HOW TO USE IT, MAY RESULT IN IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF A CHILD RESTRAINT. IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF A CHILD RESTRAINT CAN RESULT IN A REDUCTION IN THE RESTRAINT'S PERFORMANCE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH AND AN INCREASED RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO THE CHILD SEATED IN THE RESTRAINT.
Fix: DEALERS WILL CUT A HOLE INTO THE BACK PANEL TRIM COVER TO ALLOW ACCESS TO THE TOP TETHER ANCHOR FOR THE FRONT CENTER SEAT POSITION AND WILL PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION AS TO USE IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463, ISUZU AT 1-800-255-6727 OR VISIT GM'S WEBSITE AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.
NHTSA Campaign: 06V139000
Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS MAY EXPERIENCE THE PERMANENT LOSS OF BRAKE LAMP FUNCTION OR BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES. THE CENTER HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LAMP (CHMSL) IS AFFECTED IN BOTH INSTANCES. ALSO, IF EQUIPPED, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE. ANY TRAILER BRAKE LAMPS WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMP WIRING WILL MIMIC THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMPS WHEN EITHER CONDITION OCCURS.
Risk: A FOLLOWING DRIVER MAY NOT KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, AND A REAR-END CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH ASSEMBLY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 5, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438; GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 OR ISUZU AT 1-800-255-6727.

GM IS RECALLING 185,903 MODEL YEAR 2004-2009 COLORADO, GMC MODEL YEAR 2009-2004 CANYON, MODEL YEAR 2006 I-280, I-350, MODEL YEAR 2007-2008 I-290, AND I-370, PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ALABAMA, ARIZONA, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, HAWAII, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, NEVADA, NEW MEXICO, PUERTO RICO, SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS AND UTAH. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A BRAKE LAMP SWITCH THAT MAY NOT WORK AS DESIGNED DUE TO CONTAMINATION IN THE SWITCH.
Risk: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE SIMULTANEOUS LOSS OF ALL BRAKE LAMPS OR CAUSE ALL OF THE BRAKE LAMPS TO STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY. BOTH OF THESE CONDITIONS COULD FAIL TO WARN OTHERS OF THE DRIVER'S INTENTIONS AND COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE NECESSARY COMPONENTS AS SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL BULLETIN FREE OF CHARGE. GM ANTICIPATES THAT PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE BY JUNE 2010. A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR VEHICLES REGISTERED IN ALL OTHER STATES WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE SAME TIME FRAME. Electrical System →2 issues
Your Body Control Module (the computer that controls your airbags, brakes, and other critical systems) may be failing, and Chevrolet has stopped supplying replacement parts. The dealer says they can source a used part from a junkyard, but GM won't allow them to reprogram it properly, meaning it may not work reliably. This leaves you without a functioning safety-critical component that your vehicle depends on.

Your heater blower resistor has melted twice, creating a fire hazard. This component controls your heating fan speed, and when it fails, it can overheat and potentially catch fire while you're driving. The fix will likely involve replacing the blower motor resistor with a higher-quality part or addressing an underlying electrical issue causing the overheating.

Suspension,structure →2 issues
Your truck's frame has rusted completely through, causing the rear suspension and truck bed to detach from the frame at 96,800 miles. The frame is so deteriorated that it crumbles when the vehicle is placed on a lift, making routine maintenance like tire rotation impossible. Addressing this issue would require significant structural repair or frame replacement.

You've noticed severe rust and corrosion on the underside of your truck, particularly around the suspension components and where the springs attach to the frame. This corrosion could potentially weaken these structural parts over time. You'll want to have a mechanic inspect the affected areas and may need rust treatment or replacement of corroded suspension components.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Fuel dripped onto your truck's starter motor and soaked it, which caused a fire when you tried to start the engine. Your truck was a total loss from the fire damage. This indicates a serious fuel leak from the fuel system that needs to be traced and repaired to prevent the fuel from reaching electrical components.

Power Train,electrical System →1 issue
Your vehicle's PassLock security system may prevent the engine from starting and display a warning light on the dashboard. This can happen unexpectedly—you might put your key in the ignition and find the dash lights come on but the engine won't crank over. In rare cases, the security system could activate while you're driving and shut off the engine, which creates a safety hazard for you and your passengers. The fix typically involves replacing or reprogramming the ignition switch or PassLock security module.

Suspension,structure,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your mechanic discovered severe rust damage to the truck's frame while inspecting the brakes. The frame has corroded so significantly that the mechanic advised against driving the vehicle, warning that it could break in half and create a safety hazard for you and other drivers. Other Colorado owners have reported the same frame rust problem. Addressing this issue would require professional frame repair or replacement, which may not be economically feasible for an older vehicle.

Suspension →1 issue
Your truck's frame has rusted severely, making it unsafe to drive and likely to fail inspection. The structural damage poses an accident risk and the vehicle may only be suitable for scrap at this point. Fixing this would require extensive frame repair or replacement, which is typically not economical for older vehicles.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your airbags were automatically disabled because the wires in the extended cab rear door got damaged from normal use and wear. A regular mechanic wouldn't repair it since it's a safety system, so you had to take it to a Chevrolet dealer who confirmed the issue and replaced the wiring harness in that door.

Tires →1 issue
You purchased four Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus tires (size 245/45R20) in 2022 with plenty of tread remaining, but you've noticed the sidewalls on two of the four tires are cracking and separating. You removed these tires from your truck due to the risk of a tire blowout and potential injury. The manufacturer has not yet responded to your warranty claim request.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your taillights and overhead cargo light stay on even after you turn off the truck and remove the key, draining the battery. A mechanic found error codes indicating the rear turn signals and overhead cargo light are stuck in the "on" position, but replacing the taillights, fuse box, and body control module didn't fix the problem. Since the turn signals aren't working properly, this creates a safety hazard when driving. The repair will likely require diagnosing and replacing the faulty wiring, relay, or electrical control module that's preventing the lights from turning off.
