General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado vehicles equipped with a manual passenger seat. The front passenger seat may have a hook attachment that was not properly welded, allowing it to separate from the inboard track of the seat frame.
Risk: An improperly welded seat frame may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect the front passenger seat and replace the cushion frame, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 6, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N222368320.

Steering →6 issues
Your steering wheel locked up while making a left turn off the freeway, preventing you from turning the wheels and forcing you to pull to the right side of the road. This nearly caused you to collide with other vehicles. The Chevrolet dealer diagnosed a faulty steering gear but has been inconsistent about whether they can reproduce the problem, delaying repairs for a week. The steering gear will likely need to be replaced to restore normal steering function.

Your steering column's ignition key release mechanism may fail without warning, sometimes intermittently. When this happens, you won't be able to remove the key from the ignition, which means you can't lock your vehicle or engage the steering wheel lock—creating a risk that your truck could roll away. You'll also be unable to leave the vehicle quickly in an emergency. The transmission may also lose its park position. Fixing this typically involves replacing the ignition switch assembly or steering column components.

Your steering wheel has a notchy, sticky feeling that requires you to constantly adjust it back and forth while driving, which feels unsafe. This problem appeared early at just 22,000 miles and seems to affect multiple vehicles of this model. The issue may require inspection of the steering column or intermediate shaft components to identify and repair the binding.

Your steering wheel occasionally catches, grabs, or gets stuck when turning at slow speeds, such as when parking, and makes a loud noise as you power through it before returning to normal. Both an independent repair shop and a Chevy dealership have experienced the problem during test drives but were unable to identify a cause, and no warning lights appear on your dashboard. The issue may require inspection of the steering column assembly, power steering system components, or intermediate shaft for binding or mechanical wear.

Your key gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out, even when the car is in park. You have to shift the gears or disconnect the negative battery terminal to release it. This appears to be a steering/ignition lock mechanism issue.

Your truck's ignition key sometimes gets stuck and won't come out after you turn off the engine. You have to repeatedly turn the truck on and off, and shift it in and out of neutral and park several times before the key will finally release. This is frustrating and inconvenient, though it doesn't prevent you from driving once it does release.

Electrical System →4 issues
Your fuel gauge is giving you wrong readings — it shows more fuel in the tank than you actually have, and sometimes it suddenly drops to empty while you're driving. The dealer replaced the fuel sensor multiple times, but the problem keeps happening. This could leave you stranded if the gauge causes you to run out of fuel unexpectedly. Fixing this will likely require diagnosis and replacement of the fuel sender unit or fuel gauge cluster.

Your shifter gets stuck and doesn't recognize when the car is in Park, which prevents the key from coming out of the ignition. You may need to restart the car multiple times or manually pop the shift release lever to get the key to release. This is a safety concern because the car isn't properly detecting Park position, and the issue happens frequently when shifting into Park.

While driving, your infotainment screen displays an interactive pop-up that forces you to acknowledge a privacy policy before you can continue using the system. This distraction appears while you're behind the wheel and requires you to interact with the screen to dismiss it. The fix would likely involve updating the infotainment software to show this privacy notice at a safer time, such as when the vehicle is parked.

You're unable to remove the key from your ignition switch. The key gets stuck and won't pull out after turning off the engine. This will likely require replacement or repair of the ignition cylinder or the locking mechanism inside the ignition switch.

The plastic piece inside your heater blend door actuator can break, preventing your heating and cooling system from working properly. This was a known issue on earlier Chevy models that had a recall, but Chevy hasn't issued a recall for your 2022 model even though the same problem persists. Replacing the heater blend door actuator typically involves removing the dashboard components to access and swap out the faulty unit.

Your key sometimes gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out unless you repeatedly turn it to the On position, shift to Drive and back to Park, and cycle the key multiple times before it finally releases. When this happens, the key shaft can become very hot to the touch, making it uncomfortable to handle. This intermittent issue is happening more frequently over time. The fix may involve inspecting or replacing the ignition switch assembly and related components.

Your shift lever occasionally gets stuck and won't move into PARK, which prevents you from removing the ignition key. When this happens, your vehicle stays in ACCESSORIES mode with the radio off but driving lights and other accessories remaining powered on. This could drain your battery if left unaddressed. The fix will likely involve inspecting or replacing the shift lever mechanism or its locking components.

Without any warning lights, your brake pedal suddenly became extremely hard to push, making it difficult to stop your truck. When you checked the engine, you noticed smoke coming from the back of the motor and found oil leaking underneath. The dealership diagnosed a failed vacuum pump that caused engine damage.

Your key gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out, forcing you to spend extended time trying to remove it — sometimes over half an hour. This happened once under warranty and was repaired, but the problem has returned. Additionally, your transmission shudders like you're driving over a rumble strip, and you've learned this is a known issue on Colorado trucks, though your vehicle doesn't show a recall for your VIN.
