VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.
VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
Fix: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

Your dashboard is melting and creating a glare on the windshield that's blocking your view of the road. This glare has nearly caused you to have accidents because you couldn't see traffic clearly. Even though your dashboard was already replaced once for the same reason, it's happening again. The fix will likely involve another dashboard replacement and possibly investigating why the replacement part is also failing.

Your dashboard has become soft, sticky, and is now melting in the sun, creating a serious safety problem. The melted dashboard is reflecting sunlight onto your windshield so severely that it's difficult to see while driving, especially toward the sun. Toyota offered a 10-year warranty to cover this known defect, but you missed the deadline by 5 days, and the manufacturer has refused to cover the $1,500 repair cost after that period ended.

Soon after I purchased this 2009 Camry in June 2022 with only 59K miles, the dash pad became very sticky and it's producing a glare on the windshield making it hard to see at times. When I called Toyota customer service, I was told the recall for this car was only good for 10 years and had expired. I called the previous owner and he stated that Toyota never notified him of this recall. This is a safety issue and should be addressed by Toyota.
The vehicle dashobard is melting and cracking, this is a known Toyota issue on this model. It creates a very shiny reflection during high sun times, and at night. It is extremley dangerous, and Toyota said they knew about it and did an extended warranty. but as they did not view it as a safety issue they did not notify any of the toytoa owners. This is aabsolutley a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact mentioned that while in her vehicle, the dashboard was disintegrating with a sticky substance visible. The contact mentioned that there was a glare with the sticky dashboard on the windshield obstructing her vision while driving. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 138,570
Dashboard surface has become very shiny which creates a glare and significantly reduced visibility in some circumstances. Dash surface seems to be melting as it is shiny and also sticky when touched. We are the original owners and this vehicle was garaged most of its life, however now when the vehicle has been parked outdoors the dash surface has become shiny resulting in a unsafe reflection in some driving situations.
I was diving my car on a 200 mile trip and I noticed that the driver side Sun Visor fell down and wouldn't stay up even when it was in its stowed position. During the day it progressive got worst. I now have to physically hold it in place so I can see while driving. I first thought my kid broke it, but that wasn't the case. Since I'm an engineer, I usually repair my car on my own. So I went looking on the internet for a replacement part and that is when I stumbled on the recall. My failure seemed to follow the same failure mode called out in the recall. However, my Visor didn't fail during the recall window. However, in my engineering opinion, this is a part the will fail at some point in the cars life and the manufacture should have done a recall and replace on every car manufactured during the years that used the same parts. Toyota no longer recognizes this as a problem. The more that the visor is used the more likely this failure will occur. Bottom line, it is a safety hazard that had a band aide approach to repairing it and should be revisited since more then likely it will occur on any vehicle that didn't experience the failure during the recall window.
While driving into the sun, the sun reflects off the dash causing you to not be able to see out the windshield. The dash has a tacky feel to it and is extremely shiny and any light that comes in trough the windshield reflect back at the windshield causing you to not be able to see what is in front of you. No warning of this issue with the vehicle. I have tried cleaning the dash with special cleaners to remove the shimmer however no resolution. The only resolution I have heard of is to have the dash completely replaced with the aftermarket dash that is made out of a different component.
SUN VISOR SAGS. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN AND TOYOTA SAYS WE RECEIVED IT VIA MAIL. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AT A TOYOTA DEALER THAT WENT OUT OF BUSINESS IN GREENBROOK NJ. WE TOOK THE CAR TO DCH AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTIFICATIONS. THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR WAS FALLING DOWN. WE CONTACTED THEM AND THEY SAID IT IS OUT BY 4 YEARS YET WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS. WE CONTACTED THEM ABOUT NOT RECEIVING IT AND THEY SAID WE HAVE THE CORRECT ADDRESS. NOW WE PAY FOR ALL THE RECALLS AND SERVICE BULLETINS. THE VISOR WOULD BE A VISIBILITY FACTOR WHEN LINE OF SITE IS INTERRUPTED. WE HAD TO FIX AT OUR COST OF 104.00 FOR A PLASTIC SUN VISOR THAT HAD AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE GLUE SEPARATED AND IT WAS NOT THE FAULT OF THE OWNER.
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE OFF. UNABLE TO BLOCK THE LOW HORIZON SUN FROM SHINING INTO THE DRIVER'S FACE WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN.

THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED AND IS STICKY AND SHINY WHICH HAS CREATED AN INTENSE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE SOME SPOTS WHILE DRIVING. THE SHINY DASHBOARD DOES NOT RETURN TO NORMAL EVEN IN COOLER TEMPERATURES, OR IF A SUNSHADE IS USED. THE SHINY STICKY GOO LIKE FILM CAN NOT BE WIPED AWAY EITHER.
MELTING DASHBOARD AND DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR DOES NOT STAY UP. THE MELTING DASH CAUSES A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING VISIBILITY TO BE OBSTUCTED. I WAS TOLD THAT I MISSED THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN SENT ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS THE STICKY DASHBOARD PROBLEM AND CAUSES GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT CAUSES UNSAFE OPERATING. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH TOYOTA AND THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX THE DASHBOARD. ATTACHED IS A PICTURE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS A VEHICLE YOU CAN SEE IN FRONT BUT BARELY.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER'S VISOR SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ROTATED COMPLETELY DOWN, BLOCKING MY VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD SO THAT I COULD NOT SEE AHEAD. IT WAS A DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING SITUATION! I HAD TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR UP SO THAT I COULD GET HOME SAFELY AND THEN GET THE CAR TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. TOYOTA KNEW THAT THIS SAFETY HAZARD EXISTED AND WAS SERIOUS BECAUSE IT DID A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE" FOR 2007 TO 2011 CAMRY HYBRID SUN VISOR BRACKETS, BUT THIS EXPIRED FOR MY CAR IN MAY OF 2016.
THE DRIVER VISOR DROOPS DOWN. IT JUST RECENTLY STARTED DOING THIS. IT BLOCKS VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING. IT WILL NOT STAY UP. WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR THIS EVENING IT WAS DOWN AND WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION.

I PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY ON JUNE 23, 2008. AFTER A FEW YEARS, THE DASHBOARD BECAME SOFT AND STICKY. JUST THIS LAST SUMMER, I NOTICED IT MELTING ON A HOT SUNNY DAY. I LOOKED INTO HAVING IT REPLACED. THERE WAS A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION LETTER PREVIOUSLY SENT TO ME, WHICH STATED THIS TYPE OF KNOWN PROBLEM WOULD BE COVERED FOR UP TO 10 YEARS SINCE CAR WAS FIRST PLACED IN SERVICE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T DETERMINE THIS WAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM TO ME UNTIL JUNE 28, 2018. I MISSED THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BY 5 DAYS. I CONTACTED NEWBOLD TOYOTA ON JUNE 29, 2018, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT AFTER THE 10 YEARS, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, EXCEPT TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT APPROX. $1,500 FOR THE DASHBOARD REPLACEMENT. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT "OH WELL, I CAN LIVE WITH THIS." BUT NOW THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED SO MUCH THAT IT NOW REFLECTS SUNLIGHT INTO THE WINDSHIELD SO BADLY THAT IT IS HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN ON A SUNNY DAY (EVEN WHILE WEARING SUNGLASSES). SO THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD IS NOW CAUSING VERY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITION. SO I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER, AND THEY SAID ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING AS NEWBOLD TOYOTA. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO NOW. SINCE THIS DESIGN/MATERIAL FLAW HAS CAUSED SUCH A SERIOUS HAZARD WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, AND THIS IS NOW A SAFETY ISSUE, I BELIEVE TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR, I HAD NO IDEA THE DASHBOARD HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE. IF ONLY I HAD NOTICED THE MELTING A FEW DAYS EARLIER THEY WOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT. IT CASTS A JARRING GLARE ONTO THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD AND MAKES DRIVING UNSAFE. VISIBILITY IS COMPROMISED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. MY EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ENGINE NEEDED REPAIRS PER A TOYOTA MAJOR RECALL. I TOOK THE CAR AND AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW IT HAS BEEN A VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. AFTER BEING TOLD THAT MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS ON A RECALL LIST, I WAS GIVEN A POSSIBLE REPAIR DATE OF WITHIN 10 MONTHS. I WAITED AND WAS GIVEN A DROP OFF DATE OF 1/23/2017. I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR AND WENT ON TO WORK. AFTER 5 DAYS I WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS READY BUT, THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR PARTS THAT WERE REMOVED/REPLACED TO DO THE WORK ON THE RECALL. I QUESTIONED WHY I WAS BEING CHARGED FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES TO PARTS THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE LABOR DUE TO THE RECALL. I GOT FETCHED A LONG STORY FROM TOYOTAS 800 NUMBER AND I HAD NO CHOICE BUT, GO PICK UP MY CAR AND PAY THE $269.54. I PICKED IT UP AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS DRIVEN 58 MILES, UPON LEAVING AND AS I GOT ON THE MAIN ROAD I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A HUGE CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD AS WELL. I CALLED BACK AND SPOKE TO [XXX] , HE WAS RUDE, A BULLY, AND ACCUSED ME OF LYING ABOUT THE DAMAGE. I BEGGED THEM TO PULL THEIR SECURITY TAPES WHICH THEY REFUSED. TOYOTA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE ANY PARTS THAT SHOULD GET DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS AS THEY PERFORM THEIR REPAIRS. I'M ASKING FOR A FULL REFUND AND AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE DAMAGED WINDSHIELD. I REFUSE TO GO BACK TO THEIR STORE AND PREFER TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED AT EITHER MY RESIDENCE OR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. I PURCHASED A USED 2009 CAMRY BASE MODEL FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. SHE NOTIFIED ME THAT THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR IS BROKEN ON THE INSIDE OF THE VISOR. IT HANGS DOWN OBSTRUCTING DRIVER'S VIEW EVEN WHEN SNAPPED INTO PLACE. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP TO BE FIXED AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ON ALMOST EVERY 2009 CAMRY AND THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX IT, ONLY REPLACE IT AT MY OWN COST. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED.

REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER HAS BIG AIR BUBBLES COMPROMISING VISIBILITY. ALSO THE I HAD REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR 3 TIMES FOR BEING BROKEN WHEN PULLED DOWN FOR USE.
OUR DRIVER SIDE VISOR BECOMES EXTREMELY FLOPPY LATELY. WE DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON MODELS SIMILAR TO OUR 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. IT'S BARELY OUT OF WARRANTY NOW AND IT'S A BIG SAFETY CONCERN. WE HAVE OWNED MANY CARS, AND NOT ONE HAS A VISOR ISSUE, PLEASE HELP!!!

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE VISORS SUBSEQUENTLY HANG DOWN OBSCURING VISIBILITY. WE PURCHASED A DRIVER'S SIDE ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO AT A COST OF $90.00 AND ON JULY 24TH THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR BROKE AND NOW NEEDS REPLACING. THIS WILL BE A CYCLE, BECAUSE EVEN THE REPLACEMENT VISOR HAS THE SAME PLASTIC PIVOT. WE LIVE IN ALABAMA AND THE SUMMER SUN VIRTUALLY BAKES THE PART. I EXPECT THIS TO CONTINUE HAPPENING. THE DASHBOARD ON MY CAMRY HAS BECOME VERY STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING A BRIGHT GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE PAST THE GLARE DURING NIGHT AND DAY DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE GLARE IS DISTRACTING AND BLOCKS THE FRONT VIEW OF THE DRIVER.

MY VISOR BROKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. VISORS TYPICALLY DON'T COME OFF OF CARS THAT ARE EVEN MUCH OLDER THAN MY 2009 TOYOTA. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND ADJUSTING MY VISIBILITY FROM THE SUN.
THIS IS FOR A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE 4 DOOR SEDAN. THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR BECOMES COMPLETELY LOOSE AND ROTATES AND FALLS DOWN JUST LIKE ONE WOULD BRING IT DOWN TO BLOCK SUNLIGHT. THIS HAMPERS THE VISION OF THE DRIVER.
MOONROOF EXPLODED WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE. IMMEDIATELY HEARD WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE MOONROOF (THE SHADE FORTUNATELY WAS DRAWN). I SAW NO OBVIOUS GRAVEL ON THE BRIDGE AND NO VEHICLES IN MY IMMEDIATE VICINITY THAT MIGHT ACCOUNT FOR IT. THOUGHT FOR A SECOND THAT SOMETHING DROPPED OFF A LANDING PLANE AND REALIZED THAT SOMETHING LIKE THAT WOULD HAVE EASILY PUNCHED THROUGH THE SHADE. I EXAMINED THE DAMAGE LESS THAN TEN MINUTES LATER WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. SAW SHATTERED GLASS AND A HOLE THAT WAS ALMOST CENTERED. FOUND NO MARKS ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE SHADE TO INDICATE AN OBJECT HITTING. THE EDGES OF THE HOLE TILTED UPWARDS. TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME IS ESTIMATED TO BE LOW 60S, SUNNY, AND NO DISCERNIBLE WIND. INSIDE TEMP WAS SET AT 67 OR 68 AND THE FAN WAS SET ON THE LOW 2 SETTING. MY HUSBAND EXAMINED THE CAR WHEN I RETURNED HOME ABOUT 3 1/2 HOURS LATER. HE SEARCHED THROUGH THE SHATTERED GLASS AND FOUND NO OBJECTS. HE TESTED THE TILTED EDGE TO SEE WHAT FLEXIBILITY IT HAD WHEN I ASKED IF AIR FLOW MIGHT HAVE DISTORTED THE OPENING IN THE GLASS. IT WAS QUITE STIFF AND HE SAID THAT WAS UNLIKELY. HE (PHD IN ENGINEERING) CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF AN OBJECT AND COMMENTED THE MOONROOF APPEARED AS IF IT SHATTERED UPWARDS DUE TO STRUCTURAL STRESS. I HAVE A NUMBER OF PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE, ONE TAKEN 10 MINUTES AFTERWARDS, THE REST WHEN I RETURNED HOME. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE IS HOLDING ON TO THE ROCK THEORY. *TR

AS IT WAS JUST DANGLING IN MY FACE WOULD NOT STAY UP TOWARDS THE WINDOW. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY SAID THERE HAS BEEN SOME OTHERS HAVING SAME ISSUE BUT, THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYONE THAT HAS GOTTEN HURT OR THEY HAVE NOT MADE ALOT OUT OF IT. THEY WANT ME TO SPEND 110.00 JUST FOR PART WHICH IS FAULTY PART. *TR

DUE TO THE MAJOR OBSTRUCTION OF VISION IT HAD TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE VISOR TO PREVENT WRECKING. THE BLACK METAL HINGE ALLOWING THE VISOR TO "FLIP" CRACKED THE PLASTIC TUBE LIKE PIECE AT THE TOP OF THE VISOR CAUSING IT TO STAY DOWN AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD. *TT

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,442. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,410.

THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR DROPPED TO THE DOWN POSITION BLOCKING SITE VISIBILITY ( THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND WAS IN MOTION ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY) AND IT WILL NOT STAY IN THE RETRACTED (AGAINST THE ROOF) POSITION. IT CONTINUES TO OBSTRUCT VISION WHEN IN THE FORWARD POSITION AND BLOCKS PERIPHERAL VISION WHEN SWUNG UP AGAINST THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. WHEN THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED THEIR REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT IT IS A COMMON AND ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET REVEAL THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS PERSISTED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL LEAD TO VEHICULAR DAMAGED AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY. *TR

HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD. I GUESS YOU CAN CALL IT WINDSHIELD BUBBLES. REAL BAD AT SUNRISE AND AT SUNSET. KIND OF LOOKS LIKE HAIR SPRAY RESIDUE ON THE WINDSHIELD. WAITING FOR THE FACTORY REP. TO LOOK AT IT. LOOKS LIKE IT IS EMBEDDED IN THE GLASS. NOT A CLEAR VIEW WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN. *TR
IN THIS COLD MORNING, THE REAR WINDOW OF MY CAR WAS COVERED WITH FROST. I TURNED ON THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST. I FOUND THE FROST NEVER MELT IN ABOUT ONE-FOURTH (OR EVEN ONE THIRD) OF THE REAR WINDOW FROM THE TOP, WHILE THE FROST OF THE REST OF THE REAR WINDOW IS COMPLETELY DISSOLVED BY HEAT WIRE. THE HEAT WIRE DID NOT WORK FOR THE UPPER PART BUT WORKED FOR THE REST PART OF THE WINDOW. IT IS REALLY A HAZARD WHEN YOU DRIVE AND YOU CAN NOT REALLY SEE CLEARLY FROM YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROR. *TR
