I bought my car in October 2009. I did not discover until years later that the pistons for the 2009 Toyota Camry Le did not fit correctly. This caused oil consumption problems, but it did not start happening until a 3-year warranty and at about 60-70 thousand miles. I did not get a notice of recall notice of Toyota's resolution to the problem, because they had the wrong apartment number and email address which I was told by Rep. Sherry and Rose at Toyota Corporation. Rep. said she was sending information to higher up at the corporation instead she sending it to the dealership. I did not get notice of a class action suit/resolution, trotter body, or melting dashboard. I have paid at least $6-7 thousand to dealerships workmanship is bad. I need help!! Because I did not get notices Toyota should fix and compensate me for repairs. Also, they replaced my hold break system because they assumed the shrieking noise was the break. This was done without my permission. I had to replace the axle they replaced less than a year ago. I am frustrated. I can not pay out any more money. My car stopped working on [XXX] I had to have it told to the dealership in Mamaroneck. Rep Sherry told me the trotter body is on recall until 2026, dealership is saying no. I brought my car in for a tune up. The day I was driving my car I had the right amount of oil in it. I was driving my car, heard a loud noise and the steering went, the brakes went, nothing worked and than the car shut down and stopped. I brought it to my mechanic, and there was no oil in the car and they went through the whole engine and there was no leaks. Toyota had a recall for engine oil consumption, and I never received a notice yet my year, make and model are part of the "Warrenty Enhancment Program". Now I have a non working car and they are refusing to fix the issue.

Bob Tyler Toyota sold me a 2009 Toyota Camry when they knew that the 2009 Camrys had an oil consumption problem. I learned of a class action lawsuit that was filed against Toyota regarding this problem. Toyota announced a program to extend warranty coverage to address customer complaints of Excessive Engine Oil Consumption on certain 2007-2009 Camrys. Toyota was supposed to replace parts on the affected Toyota Camrys for vehicles exhibiting excessive engine oil consumption. Eligibility for part replacement under this warranty enhancement Program is dependent on a Toyota dealer engine oil consumption test in accordance with T-SB-0158-14(Toyota) and S-SB-0031-14(Scion). I took my Toyota Camry to Bob Tyler for routine maintenance/oil changes and other maintenance. I noticed that my Toyota was burning a quart of oil every few hundred miles. I took my Camry to Bob Tyler Toyota and they did the oil consumption test and stated that my car narrowly passed so it did not qualify to be fixed. Since my Camry has gotten worse. My Camry only has 108,000 miles on it which is less than the cutoff mileage that Toyota has set for oil consumption problems. I took my Toyota back to Bob Tyler this year and was advised that my Camry is over the age limit for the Oil Consumption problem. I met with Bob Tyler and advised him of the problem that I was having with my 2009 Toyota Camry. I advised that my Camry has been burning oil and that the maintenance department never brought it to my attention before the age of my Camry exceeded the warranty cutoff. Bob Tyler said it was not his problem. Bob Tyler Toyota never made it clear when the cutoff age/mileage for a car to be covered started and ended. Bob Tyler now refuses to do repairs on my Camry and it is getting worse. Bob Tyler knows that this oil problem is hazardous to the driver and passengers. I would like to have my Camry repaired or receive refund in amount of repair cost so I can have it repaired at a different Toyota Dealership.

CAR HAS ABOUT 161,000 MILES, AFTER AROUND 150,000 MILES THE ENGINE CONSUMES ALMOST ALL OIL IN A WEEK OR TWO. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHANGE OIL ALL THE TIME. NO OIL LEAKS ANYWHERE.
EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION
AT 146,137 MILES THE ENGINE HAS SUDDENLY BEGUN TO CONSUME OIL, HAVING LOST IN EXCESS OF 3 QUARTS IN LESS THAN 5,000 MILES WITH NO EVIDENCE OF LEAKS (STAINING, DRIPS) OBSERVED WHERE CAR IS PARKED.
THIS CAR BURNS ABOUT TWO QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL IN JUST ONE WEEK. SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS CAR SEVERAL YEARS AGO IT'S BEEN BURNING OIL MORE THAN IT SHOULD. THERE AREN'T ANY LEAKS. IT'S JUST BURNS IT.

THIS CAR HAS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. IT BURN 1.5 QUARTS EVERY 1000 MILE. THE OIL HAS TO BE CONSTANTLY CHANGED. THE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS CAR, BUT FOR TOYOTA TO FIX THIS ISSUE; THE VEHICLE HAS TO MEET CERTAIN REQUIREMENT DEPENDING ON THE YEAR OF THE CAR AND THE MILEAGE. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN 2017 AND I REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENT.

MY TOYOTA CAMRY HAS 128K MILES. WHEN IT SITS OVERNIGHT IT WILL SMOKE AT START UP. IT SOUNDS CONSISTENT WITH EITHER AN ISSUE WITH THE RINGS IN THE ENGINE OR THE VALVE SEALS. AFTER IT RUNS THE SMOKE STOPS. WHEN THE CAR SITS AGAIN, IT WILL SMOKE AT START UP AGAIN.. IT APPEARS THAT OIL SEEMING PAST THE RINGS OR PAST THE VALVE SEALS AND BURNING OFF IN THE CYLINDER. *TR

GOT IT CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THE 2007-2010 MODEL YEAR CAMRY HAD THAT PROBLEM. WAS TOLD BY SOMEONE I KNOW (ALSO OWNS 2009 OR 2010 CAMRY) THAT HE HAD THE CAR FIXED DURING A RECALL.CHECKED MY VIN AND THERE IS NO RECALL CURRENTLY. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2013 WITH ABOUT 30K MILES AND AM CURRENTLY ABOVE 70K WITH THIS PROBLEM. SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
BURNING EXCESS OIL NEED CYLINDER REPLACEMENT.
ALL ENGINE SERVICES WERE DONE ALWAYS IN TOYOTAS CENTER, NOW CAR IS 154329 KM(95,895MILES) AND I STARTED TO CHECK OIL BY MYSELF IN THE LAST YEAR AND I NOTICED EXCESSIVE MOTOR OIL CONSUMPTION. ACTUALLY I NEED TO ADD 1QT OIL EVERY 3 WEEKS (1 QT EVERY 350 MILES APROXIMATELY). THE MOTOR IS NOT DRIPPING THE OIL ON THE FLOOR, SO IT MUST BE GOING SOMEWHERE.

I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREET WHEN THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND THE VSC CAME ON. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO EVERY ONE INCLUDING WHERE I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM. IT APPEARS I HAVE NO RIGHTS REGARDING TOYOTA AND DRIVE TIME AND THEIR UNWILLINGNESS TO CORRECT THEIR MISTAKES. I KNOW THIS CANNOT BE THE CASE. WHO IS HOLDING THESE ENTITIES ACCOUNTABLE?. THIS CAR HAS STOPPED AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. I HAVE PUT MORE MONEY IN THIS CAR REGARDING THIS ENGINE AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIGHT TO GET THIS CORRECTED. THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE ON MY 2009 CAMRY MADE ME ALMOST CRASH WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. BASICALLY I HAD MULTIPLE MISFIRES AND LOST THE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY RISKING THE CAR BEHIND ME CRASHING INTO ME. I HAVE THE 2.4L ENGINE. THIS ENGINE IS NOTORIOUS FOR BURNING OIL DUE TO FAULTY PISTONS, AND EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD THIS PROBLEM, TOYOTA NEVER ISSUED A RECALL. MY ENGINE BURNS A LOT OF OIL TOO NOT ONLY RISKING MY LIFE BY HAVING MULTIPLE MISFIRES, BUT IT ALSO RUINS MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF OIL THAT I USE TO CONSTANTLY TOP IT OF.
I TOOK MY CAR TO GET SERVICED AT A LOCAL OIL CHANGE PLACE IN JULY 2019. THEY NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE WAS CONSUMING OIL VERY RAPIDLY WHICH WASN'T NORMAL. LUCKILY FOR ME, THERE WAS A FORMER TOYOTA SERVICE TECHNICIAN WORKING THERE WHO RECALLED AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE IMPACTING SOME TOYOTA BRANDS. THEY DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND SOME INFORMATION ONLINE REGARDING A POTENTIAL RECALL OF THE IMPACTED VEHICLES. I WASN'T AWARE OF ANY TYPE OF ISSUE WITH MY CAR'S ENGINE OR A RECALL IN WHICH I COULD HAVE IT REMEDIED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I WAS HEARING OF THE ISSUE. I TOOK THAT INFORMATION TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND AFTER REVIEWING IT, THEY SAID "WE'RE SORRY SIR, BUT YOUR VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO WE'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING." THEY CONTACTED CORPORATE AND THE RESPONSE WAS THE SAME. I CONTACTED CORPORATE AND THE RESPONSE WAS THE SAME AS WELL. I'M REALLY ANNOYED THAT TOYOTA NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH THEIR ENGINE'S CONSUMPTION OF OIL AND DIDN'T INFORM ME. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID "YOUR CAR BASICALLY HAS STAGE 4 CANCER... THIS ISSUE WILL PERSIST AND EVENTUALLY YOUR CAR WILL DIE." THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT HE SAID. NOW I'M STUCK WITH A PAID-OFF TOYOTA THAT WILL EVENTUALLY DIE AS A RESULT OF TOYOTA'S NEGLIGENCE AND FAILURE TO INFORM ME OF AN ISSUE. IN 2015 I RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES FROM TOYOTA, INC. THE FIRST OF SEVERAL WERE THE SUN VISORS DEFECT. ALTHOUGH MECHANICSVILLE TOYOTA FIXED IT WHEN THEY FIXED THE ENGINE CONSUMPTION PROBLEM IN 2015, IT CURRENTLY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOESN'T STAY UP/DEFECTIVE. THE SECOND, THE DASHBOARD AREA WILL CRACK DUE TO SUN EXPOSURE WHICH IT HAS TINY CRACKS. HOWEVER, THE MAJOR WAS RECALL ON, ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. MECHANICSVILLE TOYOTA, 6546 MECHANICSVILLE TPKE. ENGINE PISTON OIL CONTROL RINGS IMPROPERLY RETRIEVING OIL IN USE. THE PISTONS AREN'T PROPERLY TREATING THE OIL SO I HAVE TO REFILL NEW OIL MULTIPLE TIMES A MONTH. IT FALLS UNDER THE MODEL AND YEAR THAT TOYOTA WAS DOING RECALLS FOR THE MODEL IN QUESTION. I WONDER IF THIS ISSUE CAN STILL BE FIXED! THE PISTONS NEED TO BE REPLACED! THE ENGINE WORKS REALLY WELL OTHER THAN BURNING OIL LIKE A FRYING PAN. (OIL & ENGINE TEMPERATURES REMAIN NORMAL (TESTED) BUT THE OIL CONTINUES TO DISAPPEAR. NO LEAKS.

WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF A BURNING SMELL, I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK AFTER DRIVING FOR A 1,000 MILES. I DIDN'T - MY ERROR, BUT I WASN'T TOLD THERE WAS A WARRENTY OR ANY KIND OF MAJOR ISSUE. WHEN I DID GO BACK, THEY RAN THE TEST AGAIN, TELLING ME I'D GET A NEW ENGINE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. WHEN I DID COME BACK, THE STORY CHANGED TO A REBUILD ENGINE. THEN, WHEN THE SERVICE REP CAME TO TELL ME THE ISSUE, HE SAID MY CAR HAD THE ISSUE, BUT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY CAR, A 2009, HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT.
THIS TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM OF CONSUMING MORE OIL. TOYOTA NEVER CONVEYED OR SENT ANY LETTER TO ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CARE AFTER LOOKING AT INTERNET POSTS, TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS AND BEYOND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS NEVER CONVEYED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM SO THAT I CAN TAKE MY CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER INSTEAD OF MY REGULAR MECHANIC SHOP. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT BRING YOUR CALL TO DEALER YOU DID NOT COME TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. MY STAND IS THAT I SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO GO TO DEALER FOR REGULAR REPAIR, ANY KNOWN MAJOR ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVEYED TO ME VIA PROPER COMMUNICATIONS LIKE OTHER RECALLS. MY CAR IS JUST 10 YEARS 6 MONTHS OLD AND TOYOTA IS NOT ACCEPTING THE WARRANTY OF KNOWN ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT SEND ANY LETTER TO ME REGARDING THIS WARRANTY/ISSUE THEY IDENTIFIED IN PARTICULAR ENGINES INCLUDING MY 2009 CAMRY.
TIMING CHAIN BROKE WITHOUT A Y WARNING, CAUSED MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED FOR SCRAP. TOYOTA WAS UNABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT.

I CALLED TOYOTA PLACE IN GARDEN GROVE AND THE PERSON I SPOKE TO SAID THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO HELP ME SINCE RECALL HAS BEEN EXPIRED AND TO CALL HEADQUARTERS. HOWEVER, I INFORMED HER THAT I NEVER GOT A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS RECALL. I ALSO INFORMED HER THAT I TOOK MY CAMRY 2009 INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2018 TO GET THE DASHBOARD REPLACED FROM ANOTHER RECALL BUT NO ONE INFORMED ME ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL DURING THAT TIME EITHER. TOYOTA HAD FAILED TO NOTIFY ME TWICE. TOYOTA FAILED TO SEND ME A NOTICE ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL AND THEY AGAIN FAILED TO NOTIFY ME WHEN I BROUGHT IN MY CAR TO GET THE DASHBOARD FIXED. SO I CONTACTED HEADQUARTERS AND THE PERSON ON THE OTHER LINE TOLD ME THE SAME THING THAT THEY CAN'T HELP ME SINCE THE TIME TO BRING IN MY CAR HAD EXPIRED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FIX OUT OF POCKET. I WISH THEY WOULD DO A THOROUGH JOB OF REACHING OUT TO THEIR CONSUMERS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THEIR CARS.

I HONESTLY BELIEVE WE SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS", ONLY TO HEAR BACK FROM THE MANAGER WHO LEAD ME ON DURING THE CALL BY SAYING, "IT'S OUR JOB HERE AT TOYOTA TO SERVICE CUSTOMERS IN NEED. BUT BECAUSE IT'S A UNIQUE SITUATION AND I CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN ON MY END, I DECIDED TO OFFER ASSISTANCE". YET HE DID NOTHING. NOW I'M OUT $5500

THE CONTACT TRIED USING THICK SYNTHETIC OIL, BUT THE OIL LEVEL FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
WAS TOLD THAT THE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS LEAKING, WHICH IT WAS , HAD IT REPAIRED. I HAD IT REPLACED RECENTLY AGAIN AS THE FIRST REPAIR SHOP DID IT INCORRECTLY. CAR IS STILL USING ABOUT A HALF A QUART OF OIL EVERY 700 MILES. THERE ARE NO VISIBLE LEAKS. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT ALL OVER FOR LEAKS (RESULTED IN GASKET REPLACEMENT), NO OTHER LEAKS DETECTED. THE CAR NOW HAS OVER 175,000 MILES AND IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER IT AS IT IS OVER THE 150K LIMIT. IT RUNS NORMALLY, NO LOSS OF POWER, DOES NOT KNOCK OR PING. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS WILL GET WORSE OVER TIME . I ALWAYS THOUGHT I HAD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IN THE WAY OF RELIABILITY AS A TOYOTA OWNER. MY ENGINE WAS REBUILT (4 PISTONS, RINGS AND ALL ASSOCIATED PARTS) BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION FAILURE, LESS THAN 25,000 MILES LATER MY ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH NO INDICATIONS (NO LIGHTS, NO SMOKE)AT ABOUT 154,000 MILES. 4,000 OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING THE VSC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TEMPERATURE GAGE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN, WHEN I TRIED TO BREAK TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK NOR DID THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER AND LET THE VEHICLE SLOW DOWN NATURALLY UNTIL I POPPED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER OVERHEATED. SERVICE REP SAID I LOST COMPRESSION DUE TO A PRESSURE BUILDING UP IN MY ENGINE, CAUSING THE HEAD GASKET AND RADIATOR TO BLOW. SERVICE REP SAID THEIR IS ALSO A BAD PISTON. TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALL, CORPORATE SAID THEY ARE PARTNERS WITH THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.

THE CARE IS BURNING OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE. SO MUCH SO THAT THE ENGINE CAN FAIL AND SHUT DOWN DURING NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURES THIS IS DANGEROUS, TO ME, MY FAMILY AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUES AND HASN'T RECALLED THE CARS TO BE FIXED. RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT AS I AM APPLYING THE BRAKE OR TAKING A CURVE MY OIL LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THERE IS AN ISSUE OF OIL CONSUMPTION THAT IS KNOWN. MY CAR AVERAGES USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 800-1200 MILES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AT ALL.
ONE OR MORE OF THE THREADS THAT RECEIVE THE HEAD BOLTS ARE STRIPPED, WHICH CAUSED A LEAKING HEAD GASKET AND COOLANT IS ENTERING THE CYLINDERS. WHEN STARTING/STOPPING, YOU CAN HEAR THE COOLANT SLOSHING AROUND. THE CABIN HEAT GOES AWAY AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATS. THE MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THAT ENGINE. THE HEAD BOLTS ARE STEEL AND THE RECEIVING THREADS ARE ALUMINUM. REPAIR OPTIONS ARE TO PUT STEEL INSERTS INTO THE ALUMINUM OR REPLACE THE ENGINE. BOTH OPTIONS ARE ABOUT THE SAME IN LABOR COSTS, BUT IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO GO WITH REPLACING THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE INSERTS WOULD ARE LIKELY TO WORK LOOSE IN A FEW YEARS. REPLACING THE WITH A REFURBISHED ENGINE WILL COST ABOUT $5500. ENGINEERING 101...FOR A CRITICAL JOINT THAT IS SUBJECT TO VIBRATION AND HEAT/COOLING CYCLES, NEVER THREAD INTO ALUMINUM!

WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS - THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WERE RUN AND IT DETECTED NORMAL (TESTED TWICE BECAUSE INCONCLUSIVE). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WHEN TRAVELING OUT OF STATE, THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF LOSE OF ENGINE OIL AND THEN CAR MADE A STRANGE SOUND. VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE BRIDGE, IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BRAGGING WITH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND PRESENTED NOT SIGNS OF PROBLEMS WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS NORMALLY SERVICED AT DEALERSHIPS AND HAVE ALWAYS RESPONDED TO UPDATES. THE MOTOR DID NOT SHOW SIGNS OF WEAR OR TEAR, WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND DID NOT KNOW OF THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOW LOCATED IN VIRGINIA BEACH, THE MILEAGE IS OVER 260,000 AND TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY RESIDENCE WOULD BE TOO COSTLY. THE VEHICLE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED TO COST $3000 TO REPAIR THE MOTOR AND MORE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MAPLEWOOD TOYOTA (2873 MAPLEWOOD DR, MAPLEWOOD, MN 55109 (651) 482-1322) PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED THE GASKET AND PISTONS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE UNDER TOYOTA'S WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE HAVING A SALVAGE TITLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AFTER THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR OIL CONSUMPTION, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT A SAFETY RECALL. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS A SALVAGE TITLE, TOYOTA STATED THAT IT WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR WARRANTY ENHANCEMENTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
I BOUGHT 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM USED DEALER IN FEB 2016. I HAD SOME OTHER ISSUES BUT NOT LOSING ENGINE OIL. ON AUGUST 21ST TOOK THE CAR FOR OIL CHANGE AND SERVICE ADVISER ASKED IF MY CAR LOSE OIL. I SAID NO. THEN SAID WELL IF YOU DO LOSE OIL THEN BRING BACK AND WE WILL FIX FREE OF CHARGE. WITHIN FEW DAYS ENGINE OIL WARNING LIGHT SHOWED UP, TOOK TO THE SAME DEALER AND HE SAID DON'T WORRY IT WILL BE FIXED FREE. AFTER 3 WEEKS NO RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA, CALLED THEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THEY CANT REPAIR IT FREE AS ENGINE IS NOT ORIGINAL ON THE CAR. I SAID I HAVE NOW IDEA AS I BOUGHT USED, PLUS I NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE, THEY SABOTAGE MY CAR TO CREATE A WORK SO GET PAID BY THE TOYOTA CORP. THIS IS NOT FAIR TOYOTA HAVING SUCH REPUTATION. CAR HAS STILL TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE AND DRIVEN MILES 130K. IF TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE, THERE WILL BE A COMPAIGN AGAINST TOYOTA FROM THE FIRST PLACE AS THIS CAR IS NO MORE RELIABLE.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY IS PART OF THE ZE7- WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. MY CAR DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE UNTIL LATE NOVEMBER AND WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 142,500 MILES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WOULD BE UNDER 150,000 WHEN THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS INITIATED IT STILL MET THE SERVICE GUIDELINES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INITIATE THE TEST WITH THE CAR STILL UNDER 150,000 MILES. DESPITE THE DEALER DID THE REPAIRS, THE OIL EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION STILL PRESENT. THE CAR HAS DIMINISHED VALUE DUE TO THIS KNOWN ISSUE AND I HAVE TO EITHER COVER THE REPAIR COST OR DEAL WITH THE ISSUE WHICH INCLUDES CONSTANTLY CHECKING MY OIL TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T\'T RUN OUT AND COMPLETELY KILL THE ENGINE. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (NOT TOYOTA) HAS NOT FOUND A PROBLEM. RECENTLY A FRIEND FOUND OUT ON LINE THAT THERE IS A TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR THIS ISSUE GOOD FOR 10 YEARS/150,000 MILES. I CALLED A LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT I AM OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT BECAUSE I AM OVER THE 150,000 MILES BUT I AM WITHIN THE YEARS. MY CAR IS 8 YEARS OLD WITH 154,000 MILES. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR A YEAR AND MY CAR HAD ABOUT 137,000 MILES AT THE TIME I NOTICED IT WAS AN ISSUE. THE SUGGESTED I CALLED THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY, I CALLED THEM ON 6/15/2017 BUT I DID NOT GET ANY SATISFACTION. THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT SINCE I AM OVER THE MILES. I WOULD TAKE MY CAR IN FOR INSPECTION AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY LEAKS AND TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL. FINALLY AFTER YEARS OF HAVING TO GET CONSTANT OIL CHANGES AND PURCHASING EXTRA GALLONS OF OIL TO REFILL EVERY 1K MILES OR LESS, I GOT A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ON MARCH 2016 AND AFTER TAKING IT IN FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, MY CAR FAILED MISERABLY AND IT WAS ADDED TO THE LIST. MY CAR WAS FIXED ON JANUARY 2017 AND WAS TOLD I WOULD GET REIMBURSED FOR THE OIL THAT I HAD TO ADD BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT. I SUBMITTED ALL RECEIPTS AND DOCUMENTATION THAT THEY REQUESTED ON MARCH 2017 AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUNAROUND FOR MONTHS. ALTHOUGH EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF PROOF WAS SUBMITTED, THEY WOULD DENY THE REQUESTS. I KEPT CALLING AND SPEAKING TO DIFFERENT REPS, FAXED/EMAILED DOCUMENTS AS WELL AS SENT LETTERS THROUGH CERTIFIED MAIL. FINALLY ON JULY 1, 2017, THEY DECIDED TO ONLY PAY $500 WHEN THE TOTAL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES SINCE 2012 WAS $1,558.08. THEIR REASONING WAS THAT THEY WERE ONLY PAYING FOR ANY EXTRA OIL USED BETWEEN MARCH 2016 UNTIL JANUARY 2017. THIS IS NOT OK BECAUSE I STARTED HAVING ISSUES IN 2012 AND THE ISSUE WAS FOUND IN 2011 YET THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY ME UNTIL MARCH 2016. THEY SHOULD HAVE HONORED WHAT THEIR ORIGINAL LETTER STATED WHICH WAS BASED ON WHEN MY CAR STARTED HAVING ISSUES. I SUBMITTED PROOF OF RECEIPTS AS WELL AS INVOICES FROM GOODYEAR OF WHEN THIS STARTED. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AT HIGH-SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. ON JUNE 22, 2017 AT ~ 9:05 AM I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON MA RTE 128 IN LEFT PASSING LANE JUST BEYOND THE MANCHESTER EXITS. I WAS IN THE LEFT-HAND LANE IN A CLUSTER OF CARS TRAVELING AT 65-70 MPH. I WAS TRAVELING ~ 70 MPH PASSING THE VEHICLES ON THE RIGHT. THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME IN THE LEFT-HAND LANE, THE CLOSEST APPROXIMATELY 40-50 FT BEHIND ME. SUDDENLY I HEARD A EXPLOSION UNDER MY CAR. IMMEDIATELY CLOUDS OF A SMOKE-LIKE VAPOR POURED FORTH FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR, FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER AND A RACKET FROM UNDER THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY THREW ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND SOMEHOW MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF RT. 128 WITHOUT A COLLISION. LUCKILY NO ONE GOT HURT. FROM ALL THAT I UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE FAILURE, IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY TRANSMISSION, YET I HAD IT SERVICED, INCLUDING AN OIL CHANGE, AT IRA TOYOTA IN DANVERS MA ~ 6 MONTHS AGO. I HAD NO INDICATION OF LOW OIL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT.

AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES NOTICED THAT MY WIFE'S CAR STARTED USING OIL AND A COUPLE TIMES THE OIL LIGHT HAD COME ON WHICH SCARED HER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL??? I'VE BEEN A TECHNICIAN MY WHOLE LIFE AND TOLD THEM THEY WERE NUTS. NOT LOG AFTER WE GOT A NOTICE ABOUT AN OIL CONSUMPTION TSB AND TOOK IN FOR THE TEST. THEY TEST IT BEFORE THE OIL HAS ANY CHANCE FOR VISCOSITY LOSS WHICH NATURALLY IS GOING TO PASS. IT USES APPROX. 2-3 QTS. OF OIL IN A 3,000 MILE OIL CHANGE WHICH IS ABSURD. I'VE OWNED TOYOTA'S FOR OVER 30 YEARS BUT I'VE TOLD THEM THIS IS IT NO MORE OF THEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS COULD LEAVE THIS CAR DISABLED MOST ANYWHERE EVEN IN THE ROAD!!! I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I HAVE DONE THE WHOLE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE CAR HAD HARDLY BURNED OFF ANY OIL AFTER THE 1,200 MILES OF DRIVING. YET WHEN I DROVE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER 2,300 MILES THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON. SO I HAVE BEEN CARRYING EXTRA QUARTS OF OIL WITH MY WHENEVER THE LIGHT COMES ON. TOYOTA SAID THAT I COULD HAVE IT TESTED AGAIN AFTER 6 MONTHS AND THIS WOULD BE THE LAST ONE THEY WOULD PERFORM. THERE IS NEVER LEAKING OIL ANYWHERE OUT SIDE OF THE CAR AFTER IT HAS BEEN PARKED. TOYOTA CLEARLY KNOWS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE SINCE THEY HAVE POSTED AT TSB. JUST FIX MY CAR!
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE RUBBER PORTION OF THE VVT-I OIL HOSE RUPTURED. THIS FAULTY PART, WHICH TOYOTA NEGLECTED TO REPLACE WITH THEIR UPDATED ALL-METAL LINE UNDER THEIR TSB, WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL ON ALL VEHICLES THAT HAVE IT AND POSES A SERIOUS RISK FOR CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE, AS WELL AS THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ENGINE OIL FIRE UNDER THE HOOD DUE TO ITS PROXIMITY TO HOT ENGINE PARTS, AS WELL AS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOOK TO TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED A TEST ON IT AND SAID IT WAS NORMAL TO. LOOSING A QUART EVER 1100 MILES.
MY SON, DRIVING TO BACK TO SHOOL, WAS LEFT IN THE ROAD WITH OUR 2009 CAMRY 5 SECONDS AFTER THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. (EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE KNOWN BY TOYOTA - AUGUST 11, 2011, TOYOTA ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TSB TO DEALERS) WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM OR WE WOULD HAVE ADVISED HIM TO CHECK THE OIL EVERY GAS FILL UP TO PREVENT PROBLEMS. THE CAR IS A COMPLETE LOSS, BUT WHAT CONCERNS ME MOST IS THAT HE WAS ON A COUNTRY HIGHWAY WITH MILES OF OPEN SPACE BETWEEN TOWNS. LUCKILY HE WAS JUST ENTERING BEDFORD VA AND MADE IT TO THE ENTRANCE OF A SHOPPING CENTER BEFORE THE CAR DIED. SINCE HE WAS BLOCKING THE SHOPPING CENTER ENTRANCE 'SOME RANDOM GUY' HELPED HIM PUSH THE CAR INTO A PARKING AREA. HAD THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN TOWNS AND HIS CAR BEEN STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. BOTH THE SHOP WE TOWED THE CAR TO AND THE COMPANY THAT LAST CHANGED THE OIL INVESTIGATED WHY THE OIL RAN DRY AFTER ONLY 1500 MILES. THEIR CONCLUSIONS MATCHED IN THAT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FAULTY MAINTANANCE FROM THE OIL CHANGE NOR ANY SIGNS OF OBVIOUS LEAKS. TO LEAVE PEOPLE IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS BECAUSE A COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAULTY OR DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT NOR DO THEY WANT TO NOTIFY OWNERS THAT THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ISSUE IS BEYOND CONTEMPT. THIS IS PURE NEGLIGENCE ON TOYOTA'S PART NOT INFORMING THE CAR OWNERS OF THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME WE NEED TO DETERMINE WHAT TO DO WITH A 'DEAD' CAR.
THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT HAD COME ON INDICATING MY OIL WAS LOW. I HAD A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE APPT. AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN A FEW WEEKS SO I CHECKED THE DIPSTICK, WHICH INDICATED THE OIL WAS LOW, AND ADDED TWO QUARTS. AT MY APPOINTMENT ON 11/19/16, I STATED THE OIL ISSUE AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR STARTED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. WHEN I RETURNED TO GET THE RESULTS FROM THE TEST ON 1/2/17, IT WAS REVEALED MY CAR HAD FAILED AND THE OIL WAS EXTREMELY LOW. I AM TOLD BY A FORMER CERTIFIED TOYOTA MECHANIC, THAT THEIR STANDARDS FOR FAILING OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS ARE VERY HIGH, SO TO FAIL A TEST IS A HUGE CONCERN. THE TEST WAS RAN WHEN MY MILEAGE WAS AT 151,499. THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE HAD OBVIOUSLY STARTED WELL BEFORE THE TEST WAS RAN. HOWEVER, SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF THE 10 YR/150K MILE WARRANTY, TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF REPAIR. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE LINE TWICE AND THEY TOLD ME LEGALLY THEY COULD NOT COVER THE COST. THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE 151,499 MILES. I CALLED THE TOYOTA REGION TO SEE IF THEY WILL FIX IT IN GOOD WILL SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN GOOD FAITH AND ALWAYS HAD IT REGULARLY MAINTENANCED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I WAS STILL TOLD NO, THEY LEGALLY COULDN'T HELP ME. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT MY CAR HAD A POTENTIAL FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE ONLY RECALL NOTICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED FROM THEM WAS TO GET EXTRA GREASE PUT ON A SWITCH FOR MY WINDOW MOTOR. IF THEY HAD ALERTED ME SOONER THAT MY ENGINE NEEDED TO BE TESTED OR IF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD TOLD ME ABOUT THE RECALL FOR SIMILAR CARS, THEN I WOULD NOT BE STUCK DRIVING A DANGEROUS VEHICLE. I HAVE TO PUT A QUART OF OIL IN EVERY WEEK JUST TO MAKE SURE IT IS DRIVABLE. I AM PAYING FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET HOPING THAT THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO MY ENGINE BLOCK. I DO NOT WANT TO SELL THIS CAR SINCE IT IS A POTENTIAL DANGER AND PUT SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE AT RISK.
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BEEN BURNING APPROXIMATELY 1/2 QUART OF OIL PER WEEK SINCE OCTOBER 2016. IT HAD 128000 MILES AT THAT TIME. IT NOW HAS 134500 MILES. I DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 500 MILES PER WEEK. I FEAR ENGINE PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE SEIZURE. I HAD A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TEST DONE AT 129500, BUT THEIR VERDICT WAS THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NOT WITHIN THE REALM OF NEEDING REPAIR. THE ENGINE USED 3/4 QUART OF OIL OVER 1250 MILES, BUT THE TOYOTA GUIDELINE IS 1.1 QUART DURING THE TEST TIME PERIOD.
SMELL BURNING OF OIL INSIDE CAR. I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREET. I CHECKED OIL DIPSTICK AND NO TRACE OF OIL, MEANING OIL EXTREMELY LOW. I HAVE DRIVEN CAR ABOUT 2800 MILES SINCE LAST OIL CHANGE. THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO CHANGE OIL EVERY 5000 MILES PER TOYOTA OWNER MANUAL. MY ODOMETER READING IS 76488 MILES. TOYOTA DEALER CHECK CAR LAST YEAR FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND SAID CONSUMPTION IS NORMAL. I HAVE BEEN MONITORING OIL CONSUMPTION MYSELF . MY 2009 CAMRY SE (4 CYLINDER) DID NOT BURN OIL, LEAK OIL OR OTHERWISE HAVE ANY ISSUE WITH OIL UNTIL I GOT MY OIL LOW OIL LIGHT AT APPROXIMATLEY 130,000 MILES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT HAD BEEN THE ONLY PLACE THAT HAD CHANGED THE OIL IN MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND THE SUDDEN OIL CONSUMPTION COULD BE FIXED IF IT FAILED A SIMPLE TEST. THE TEST IS TO CHANGE THE OIL IN YOUR CAMRY, AND BETWEEN 1,000 AND 1,300 MILES LATER (NOT TO EXCEED 1,300 MILES) TO DUMP AN ENTIRE QUART OF OIL IN THE CRANKCASE. IF THE LEVEL WAS FULL, THERE WAS NO FURTHER ACTION TO TAKE. IF IT WAS LOWER THAN FULL, TOYOTA WOULD TEAR INTO YOUR ENGINE AND FIX THE ISSUE AT NO COST TO ME. NOT A VERY SCIENTIFIC TEST, BUT THEY PERFORMED THIS ON MY CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 133,000 MILES. IT WAS NOT DETERMINED THAT FURTHER ACTION WAS REQUIRED. I DETERMINED THAT MY CAR HAD USED 4 QUARTS OF OIL IN APPROXIMATELY 4,700 MILES, PRIOR TO THE TEST. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD WAIT UNTIL IT WAS BURNING MORE OIL, AND I COULD BRING IT BACK IN TO REPEAT THE TEST. 9 MONTHS LATER, I DETERMINED THAT I WAS USING 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES DRIVEN. I NOW HAVE 150,430 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. DURING THE ORIGINAL TEST, THE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO MILEAGE LIMIT, AND THEY HAD ACTUALLY JUST REBUILT THE ENGINE IN A RAV 4 WITH 179,000 MILES ON IT. DURING THE CALL ON 12-23-16, I WAS TOLD THAT I MISSED THE DEADLINE OF OCTOBER 31ST, AND THE DEAL NOW ONLY WAS FOR VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 150,000 MILES. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER 800-331-4331AND OPENED CASE NUMBER 1612273514. THEY INFORMED ME THE PROGRAM HAD NEVER CHANGED, AND DEALERSHIPS WERE CONFUSED WITH HOW TO ADMINISTER THE PROGRAM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PISTON RINGS ARE A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME AT THIS TIME. THEY FIELD MANY CS CALLS ON THIS MATTER.
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY IS PART OF THE ZE7- WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE PRIMARY COVERAGE FOR THIS ISSUE WAS GOOD UNTIL OCTOBER 31, 2016 AND SECONDARY COVER UNTIL 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS FROM THE DATE OF FIRST USE (WHICHEVER COMES FIRST). MY CAR DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE UNTIL LATE NOVEMBER AND WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 149,500 MILES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE (CASE #1611293174) AND WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WOULD BE UNDER 150,000 WHEN THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS INITIATED IT STILL MET THE SERVICE GUIDELINES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INITIATE THE TEST WITH THE CAR STILL UNDER 150,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED TOYOTA AND TOYOTA ADVISED THAT SINCE THE CAR WOULD BE OVER 150,000 MILE WHEN THE CAR FINISHED THE TEST IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AGAIN REFERENCING MY CASE NUMBER AND THEY VERIFIED WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP BUT NOW WERE TELLING ME IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE BY TOYOTA AND THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO GET AROUND REPAIRING A DEFECTIVE PART. NOW I HAVE TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CAR HAS DIMINISHED VALUE DUE TO THIS KNOWN ISSUE AND I HAVE TO EITHER COVER THE REPAIR COST OR DEAL WITH THE ISSUE WHICH INCLUDES CONSTANTLY CHECKING MY OIL TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T RUN OUT AND COMPLETELY KILL THE ENGINE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THIS CAR HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
CONSUMING EXCESSIVE OIL IN TWO-THREE MONTHS PERIOD. I GOT LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ON AND OFF WHEN I HIT THE BREAK HARD, THEN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WAS ON AND OFF. I WENT TO NEAREST AUTO STORE AND CHECKED ENGINE OIL. IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY, I MEAN DRY. I JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE IT SINCE TOYOTA DEALER CHECKED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND MY CAR PASSED THE TEST A FEW MONTH AGO. I WAS TOLD THE AUTO SHOP WORKER THAT I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE IT WAS SO CLOSE TO BURN UP THE ENGINE. I CHECKED ONLINE AND MANY PEOPLE HAS THE SAME ISSUE ON 2009 CAMRY. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS WELL. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY TOYOTA.
I NOTICED MY CAMRY WAS LOW ON OIL. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THERE IS A RECALL ON MY ENGINE FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THEY VERIFIED INDEED MY CAR HAS AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD EVENTUALLY FIX IT BUT ALL THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. AT FIRST THEY SAID IT COULD TAKE A MONTH OR TWO. I CALLED BACK A MONTH LATER, DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT TELL ME A DATE AND IT MAY TAKE A YEAR UNTIL THEY HAVE PARTS. I FEEL THAT MY CAR IS BEING COMPROMISED BURNING OIL LIKE THIS. I AM HAVING TO PUT A QUART IN SOMETIMES EVERY 700 MILES! WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF WAITING THIS LONG TO GET THE REPAIR DONE AND MAY HAVING TO WAIT A YEAR IF TOYOTA EVEN GETS BACK TO ME. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE AVOIDING ME AND NOT ACTUALLY GOING TO FIX THIS REPAIR IN A TIMELY MANNER.
EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE. THE VEHICLE HAS NO APPARENT LEAKS, BUT CONSUMES MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL CONSUMTION UNTIL OVER 150,000 MILES.
FAILED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST X 2. DEALER STATED I PAY FOR ANY DAMAGE TO ENGINE, ONLY PISTON RINGS COVERED. DEALER STATED I PAY IF THEY DAMAGE ENGINE DURING REPAIR/RECALL.
THE WATER PUMP IS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE, AND WILL FAIL SOON. TOYOTA RECALLED 2.7 MILLION VEHICLES FOR WATER PUMP PROBLEMS BUT THEY SAY MINE IS NOT RECALLED. I THINK IT SHOULD BE. IT IS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE.

OUR CAR BEGAN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL AROUND 75,000 MILES.AS IT TURNS OUT, THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE 2AZ-FE ENGINES WHICH WERE INSTALLED IN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: 2007-2011 TOYOTA CAMRY HV, 2007-2009 TOYOTA CAMRY, 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA, 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX, 2006-2008 TOYOTA RAV4, 2007-2008 TOYOTA SOLARA, 2007-2009 SCION TC, AND 2008-2009 SCION XB . TOYOTA KNEW ABOUT THE MATERIAL DESIGN DEFECT ENGINES BUT THEY DECIDED TO SELL THE CARS ANYWAY: THE ENGINE DEFECT TYPICALLY BECOMES APPARENT EITHER DURING OR SHORTLY AFTER THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD HAS EXPIRED, SO IT WOULDN'T BE THEIR PROBLEM. IN RESPONSE TO A LAWSUIT IN 2014, THEY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE GUIDELINES ARE VERY RESTRICTIVE AND ONLY COVER THE MOST EGREGIOUS CASES, LEAVING US WITH A FAULTY ENGINE THAT CONSUMES A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200-1400 AND NO MEANS OF REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. *TR

AROUND 140,000 MILES (3-1-15) I NOTICED THAT I WAS STARING TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT HAS BECOME WORSE WITH TIME (AND MILEAGE). I NOW (9-12-16) NEED TO CHECK AND ADD OIL AT LEAST EVERY THREE WEEKS.
ON 06-21-2016, WE TOOK OUR 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE TO WONDRIES TOYOTA IN ALHAMBRA CA FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST UNDER THE ENHANCEMENT WARRANTY (ZE7). WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE (WHICH HAD 61088 MILES) FOR APPROXIMATELY 1100-1300 MILES THEN BRING IT BACK IN FOR THE RE-INSPECTION. ON 08-29-2016, WE BROUGHT OUR CAMRY BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH 62330 MILES ON IT. WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT OUR VEHICLE DID NOT FAIL THE TEST. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY USED UP "A 1/4 OF A QUART OF OIL" AND IN ORDER TO FAIL THE TEST IT WOULD'VE NEEDED TO BURN "A QUART OF OIL" IN THE GIVEN AMOUNT OF MILES. I ASK THE SERVICE ADVISOR IF IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO HAVE BLUEISH COLOR SMOKE COME OUT OF THE TAILPIPE EVERY MORNING. HE STATED NO. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED "YOU WOULD NEED TO CHECK MY OIL EVERY 1200 MILES TO ADD OIL". I ASKED HIM IT WAS NORMAL FOR ME TO HAVE TO CHECK AND ADD OIL TO THIS VEHICLE. HE STATED NO. I STATED IF I FOLLOW THE TOYOTA OIL CHANGE GUIDELINE (CHANGING OIL EVERY 5000-7000 MILES) THEN MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE LOST 1-11/2 QUART OF OIL PRIOR TO THE OIL CHANGE. HE STATED YES. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY WIFE THAT DRIVES THE VEHICLE AND NOW SHE RUNS THE REST OF THE MOTOR STOPPING ON HER BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. HE STATED THERE WAS NOTHING HE CAN DO SO I NEED TO CONTACT TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION.
I TRULY LOVED MY HYBRID CAMRY UNTIL JUNE OF 2015 WHEN MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND MY OIL WAS LOW SHORTLY AFTER HAVING MY OIL CHANGED. I CONTACTED MY MECHANIC AND HE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND A BULLETIN REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH OIL CONSUMPTION. I BEGAN TO HAVE TO CHECK MY OIL ONCE A WEEK AND HAD TO ADD 1-2 QUARTS PER WEEK. IN LATE 2015, TOYOTA SENT OUT A NOTICE REGARDING THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM AND OFFERED OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING. I HAD MY CAR TESTED AND OF COURSE, MY CAR WAS CONSUMING OIL. I WAS NOTIFIED ON 1-13-16 THAT MY CAR WAS CONSUMING OIL AND THAT I WOULD BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST FOR REPAIRS. I CONTINUED TO CHECK AND ADD OIL TO MY CAR. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THAT PARTS ARE PROJECTED TO BE AVAILABLE IN SEPT. 2016. IN MID AUGUST, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD TO GET MY CAR TO THE CLOSEST MECHANIC AS IT WAS RUNNING POORLY. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. THE CODES SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING AND THERE PROBLEMS WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THAT THE CAR IS NOT OPERATIONAL AND SUGGESTED WE CONTACT TOYOTA. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED CORPORATE TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN REPLACING THE PISTONS AND RINGS. BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I COMMUTE TO WORK, I AM NOW WITHOUT MY VEHICLE (WHICH I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS TO TOYOTA), STILL WAITING ON PARTS FOR REPAIR (TOYOTA TELLS ME TO BE PATIENT, REALLY???), FACING CHARGES TO TOW MY CAR APPROX. 40 MILES TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ONCE PARTS AVAILABLE, AND PAYING APPROX. $1000 TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTORS BEFORE MY CAR WILL BE OPERATIONAL. EVERY TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO GET AN OIL CHANGE (EVERY 3000 MILES SOMETIMES EVEN A LITTLE EARLIER), I AM TOLD MY OIL IS LOW OR DIRTY OR BOTH. THIS LAST TIME I TOOK IT I WAS TOLD I WAS LOW TWO QUARTS OF OIL AND I DIDN'T EVEN HIT 3,000 MILES YET. I WAS TOLD NEXT TIME IF IT WAS LOW I MIGHT HAVE TO DO A COMPLETE ENGINE FLUSH. I DECIDED TO GET A FEW MORE OPINIONS BEFORE GOING FORWARD WITH ANY WORK. I WAS TOLD BY A MAN AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN TORRANCE, THAT IT SOUNDED SIMILAR TO AN ISSUE ANOTHER PERSON HE KNOWS HAD WHICH ENDED UP BEING A RECALL FOR THAT PERSONS CAR. I WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP I GOT MY CAR FROM AND CHECK WITH THEM FOR A RECALL. I CALLED AND RECEIVED NEWS THAT THERE WAS A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT" FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I TOOK IT IN TO GET THE FIRST STEP OF THE TEST DONE WHICH CONSISTED OF MAKING SURE THERE WASN'T AN OIL LEAK AND SINCE THERE WASN'T THEY TOPPED OFF MY OIL THEN APPLIED MARKERS TO MY DIP STICK AND OTHER PLACES SO THEY CAN MEASURE HOW MUCH MY OIL WENT DOWN AFTER ONLY 1200 MILES. WHEN I RETURNED AFTER THE 1200 MILES THEY CHECKED THE LEVELS AGAIN AND SAW OBVIOUSLY MY ENGINE BURNED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF OIL SINCE THEY LAST CHECKED IT. THEY ADDED A QUART OF OIL BACK INTO MY CAR WHEN I RETURNED AND SINCE IT WAS LITTLE ABOVE FULL AFTER THEY ADDED THE QUART, THEY SAID MY CAR PASSED THE TEST AND THAT ALTHOUGH MY CAR BURNED OIL IT WASN'T ENOUGH FOR THEM TO DO ANY WORK TO MY CAR. BASICALLY TELLING ME THAT ITS $5,000 TO FIX AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL IN TOYOTAS TO CONSUME EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I BOUGHT MY CAR CERTIFIED USED FROM THE CERRITOS AUTO SQUARE AUTONATION LOT. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY TURNED ME AWAY WITHOUT EVEN SUGGESTING OTHER WAYS FOR ME TO GET BETTER OIL CONSUMPTION OR ANY OTHER HELP FOR THAT MATTER. I WAS TOLD I CAN DO THE TEST ONE MORE TIME AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP WHICH I ALSO FOUND STRANGE.
TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SIMPLE OIL/FILTER CHANGE ON JULY 7, 2016. I WAS TOLD THE WATER PUMP HAD LEAK AND REQUIRING THE PUMP TO BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED TO PAY ABOUT $530 TO GET A NEW WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT. I DID LOOK UP THE SIMILAR PROBLEM RELATED TO 2009 CAMRY. MY VEHICLE HAS JUST OVER 50,000 MILES MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVEN MILEAGE. THERE HAVE BEEN MORE CASES REPORTED AND SUPPOSEDLY TO BE A RECALL ISSUED FOR NEW YORK STATE RESIDENTS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS/PROBLEMS. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE LOCAL MARIETTA DEALERSHIP IN GEORGIA RIPPING ME OFF OR NOT. I DID NOT ASK FOR THE OLD WATER PUMP TO BE RETURNED TO ME AFTER THE WORK WAS DONE. I DID NOT SEE THE LEAK AT ALL IN MY GARAGE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH IF THERE WAS UNANNOUNCED RECALL FROM TOYOTA, I WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR MY WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT BILL.

THIS PROBLEM IS SHOWN THROUGH LARGE PUFFS OF BLACK SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST, UPON IGNITION. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT A "NORMAL" SITUATION. THIS ISSUE MAY LEAD TO A HIGHER AMOUNT OIL PURCHASES AND SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE; IT IS VERY COSTLY.

MY CAR CONSUMES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I NEED TO ADD OIL ABOUT EVERY 1000 MILES. TOYOTA HAS CONDUCTED 2 OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AND TELLS ME THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS NORMAL.
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY IS CONSUMING A LOT OF OIL, IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES I HAVE TO ADD A QUART OF OIL, IT IS BURNING OIL ABNORMALLY. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BUT WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS FINE AND BURNING OIL AS IT SHOULD FOR AGE OF THE CAR. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME DIFFERENT. I'M CURRENTLY AT 67,000 MILES AND THE RED LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, SO I ADDED ONE MORE LITER OF ENGINE OIL AFTER CHECKING THE DIPSTICK AND PRACTICALLY NOTHING REGISTERED. I NEED TO GET IT FIXED, BUT THE TOYOTA DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR/VIN, SO I CAN'T GET THE NECESSARY PARTS EVEN IF THEY HAVE THEM IN STOCK. I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO ENSURE THERE WERE NO LEAKS AND EVERYTHING WAS TIGHT AND HE ASSURED ME IT WAS. I BEGAN GOOGLING THE ISSUE AND LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER FOR THE TEST, OF COURSE MY ENGINE FAILED THE TEST. WE SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE PARTS REPLACE IN SEPT 2015. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED AND IT HAD A ENGINE NOISE WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS NORMAL. IN FEB 2016 MY ENGINE BLEW AGAIN !! I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOTHING WRONG !! HOW ?? IT WAS FINE, JUST USING OIL UP UNTIL THEY TOOK IT APART AND FIXED THE PROBLEM !! NOW THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL MOTOR !! UNDER THE TSB THEY WILL TOP OFF YOUR OIL, SEAL UP ANY WAY THAT OIL GOES IN OR OUT AND YOU DRIVE 1000 MILES AND THEY MEASURE THE OIL TO SEE IF YOU HAVE LOST A FULL QUART. I HAVE NEVER IN MY 40 YEARS OF DRIVING HAD A CAR THAT LOST THAT MUCH OIL. TOYOTA IS AVOIDING TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO FIX IT. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE BAD PISTONS.
CAR HAD NO OIL LEFT IN IT AFTER 5000 MILES AND JUST GETTING OIL CHANGE AT THAT TIME. WAS TOLD MY 2.4 ENGINE IS KNOWN TO "EAT" OIL PER SERVICE TECH AND TOYOTA IS DOING AN "OIL CONSUMPTION TEST" ON THE ENGINE AFTER I PUT 1200-1300 MILES ON NEW ENGINE OIL. CAR WENT THROUGH 4.5 QTS OF OIL IN 5000 MILES! NOT BURNING OUT EXHAUST AND NOT LEAKING ANYWHERE. SERVICE TECH ADVISED THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THEM, AFTER "OIL CONSUMPTION TEST" IF MY CAR "EATS" LESS THAN A QUART IN 1100 MILES THAT IS ACCEPTABLE! THAT IS NOT. I KNOW 20 YEAR OLD CARS THAT DON'T BURN OR LEAK OR "EAT" OIL AT OIL. THIS KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA 2.4 ENGINE SHOULD BE RECALLED AND OWNERS GIVEN A NEW ENGINE OR COMPENSATION. I CANNOT KEEP PUTTING OIL IN CAR EVERY 1100 MILES! I READ A TSB THAT WAS ISSUED BY TOYOTA IN NOVEMBER 2011 REGARDING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION DUE TO A DEFECTIVE SEAL OR PISTON RING. RECENTLY BEFORE I HIT THE ROAD FOR VACATION, I WAS CHECKING MY TIRE PRESSURE AND DECIDED TO CHECK MY OIL LEVELS. THE CAR WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE SERVICED FOR ANOTHER 500 MILES AND THEIR WAS NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK..NOTHING CAME OUT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NEAREST JIFFY LUBE AND ASKED THE MECHANIC TO LOOK UNDER THE ENGINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN EXTERNAL OIL LEAK. THE MECHANIC CHECKED AND SAID NO OIL WAS LEAKING ON THE OUTSIDE. HE TOLD ME THERE COULD POSSIBLY BE ENGINE OIL BURNING UP, WHICH IS WHY I PULLED THE TOYOTA TSB. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE I WOULDN'T WANT MY ENGINE TO LOCK UP DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED DOWN THE FREEWAY. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND SHOULD INVESTIGATE THE MATTER. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA FOR THE ABOVE MATTER AND I WILL BE SHARING MY STORY. MY TOYOTA CAMRY CONSUMES AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF OIL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN SUMMER 2013 WITH APPROX 35,000 MILES, AND WITHIN TWO-THREE MONTH AFTER MY FIRST OIL CHANGE, THE LOW OIL WARNING LAMP WOULD TURN ON AT HARD BRAKING. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS CRITICALLY LOW EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN VERY RECENTLY CHANGED. I WAS LUCKY TO DISCOVER IT WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO HOME SO I WAS ABLE TO ADD OIL. THE INSPECTION OF THE CAR DID NOT REVEAL ANY OIL LEAKS. I NOW HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY SEVERAL WEEKS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAS BARELY TOUCHED 50,000 MILES. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. HAD I EMBARKED ON A LONG TRIP RIGHT BEFORE THE OIL LEVEL FELL LOW ENOUGH TO TRIGGER THE LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT, I COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE AS OPEN HIGHWAY DRIVING DOES NOT USUALLY REQUIRE HARD BRAKING. AS A RESULT I WOULD HAVE NOT FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE WAS OUT OF OIL AND COULD HAVE SUDDENLY STALLED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. UPON RESEARCHING THE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST OF MY 2009 CAMRY LE, I FOUND LOTS OF ONLINE FORUMS WITH OWNERS OF THE CAMRY THAT HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE ARE DISCUSSIONS OF LAWSUITS BECAUSE TOYOTA ISN'T TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I CALLED TOYOTAS CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE, HOWEVER JUST BY A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH I FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS HIGHLIGHTING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME CAR AND ALL EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE POST 60K MILES, WHICH IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. I ALSO WENT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SEEMED VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE BUT [XXX] FROM NORTH HOLLYWOOD TOYOTA STATED THAT TOYOTA?S CORPORATE OFFICE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THIS IS A HEALTH HAZARD, AS EACH TIME I POWER ON THE CAR AFTER AN HR OF THE CAR BEING UNDER THE HOT OR COLD WEATHER AND A BIG CLOUD OF SMOKE COMES OUT OF MY EXHAUST VENT. TOYOTA REFUSED TO HELP ME ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND SIMPLY GAVE ME A CASE # [XXX] AND ASKED TO GO GET THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED MYSELF. DRIVING NORTH ON A HIGHWAY I EXPERIENCED THE BATTERY CHECK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, AS WELL AS LOST POWER STEERING. PULLED OFF AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE EXIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, ENGINE WAS NO LONGER POWERING THE WHEELS AND I COASTED TO A STOP ON A RAMP WHERE I WAS FORCED TO WAIT FOR POLICE ASSISTANCE. OPENING THE HOOD I SAW THE SERPENTINE BELT THROWN OFF THE ENGINE AND STEAMING FROM THE BELT SIDE, AFTER POLICE HELPED ME PUSH THE CAR TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT THERE WAS NOTICEABLE WOBBLE IN THE WATER PUMP WHICH ALLOWED ANTIFREEZE TO LEAK OUT AND GET SPRAYED INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO WANTED TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEN WANTED TO DISASSEMBLE THE ENGINE TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS WARPED DUE TO THE LOSS OF COOLANT WHEN THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND THAT THEY SAW THIS OFTEN ENOUGH TO BE SURE OF THE CAUSE. WATER PUMP FAILED AT AROUND 31,000 MILES WITH NO LEAKAGE BEFOREHAND. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE CAMRY THAT TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ADMIT TO AND ASSIST IN REPAIRS. DUE TO SELF MAINTENANCE OF CAR THEY CLAIM DAMAGE WAS MOST LIKELY SHOWING AND IGNORED BY US. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2009 CAMRY LE BRAND NEW IN JULY OF 2008 FROM TOYOTA. DURING A RECENT ROUTINE SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE, ONE OF THE MECHANICS NOTED IN THE SYSTEM THAT MY CAR WAS EXCESS OIL IN JUNE OF 2013. TOYOTA SUGGESTED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. IN MAY OF 2014 THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO TOYOTA WITH APPROX. 85,000 MILES. TOYOTA DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY OIL CONSUMPTION, AND THE CAR WAS IN FACT BURNING MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THEY ASKED MY PERMISSION TO REMOVE THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD, DUE TO THEIR BELIEF THAT THEY OIL WAS LEAKING INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. AFTER THEIR REMOVAL OF THE ENGINE HEAD, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT OIL HAD LEAKED INSIDE OF THE PISTONS DUE TO FAILURE OF THE PISTON RINGS. THE SERVICE ADVISER AND SERVICE DIRECTOR TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A "KNOWN PROBLEM". THE ENGINE SHORT BLOCK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN TURN, I ASKED THEM WHETHER THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THEY PHYSICALLY POINTED TO SIX TOYOTA CAMRY''S WHO WERE ALL GETTING ENGINE REPLACEMENTS (SHORT BLOCK ONLY) DUE TO THE SAME RING FAILURES. WHEN I PROBED WHETHER THIS WAS A RECALL, THEY SAID TOYOTA HAS NOT RECALLED THIS BUT HAS ISSUED SEVERAL TECHNICAL MEMOS' ABOUT THE ISSUE. AFTER READING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT ENGINE FAILURE IN FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES FOR THE SAME REASONS I WAS COMPELLED TO NOTIFY YOUR AGENCY. IT IS VERY APPARENT THAT TOYOTA HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THEIR ENGINES AT LEAST IN THE 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK AND THE ABS LIGHT AND RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD. ALSO, THE RPM GAUGE WAS GOING UP AND DOWN. I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK. I TOOK IT INTO JUST A JIFFY LUBE BECAUSE IT WAS THE CLOSEST CAR PLACE NEAR ME. THEY CHECKED THE BRAKE LIGHTS, BRAKE FLUID, CAR BATTERY, AND CHECKED FOR FUNCTIONAL ISSUES. THERE WERE NONE. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC THAT CAME BACK WITH CODE U0029 FOR COMMUNICATION LOSS AT SKID CONTROL (ECU) - ENGINE CONTROL UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO CHECKED OUT ALL OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR AND DID NOT FIND ANY OTHER ISSUES. THEY GAVE A $2K ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE ECU. THE CAR IS STILL DRIVEABLE AND THE LIGHTS STILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES WHEN THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON THOUGH, THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPS WORKING AND THEN THE SPEDOMETER STICKS AT 0. IF I STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON, IT SOMETIMES CLEARS UP. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. I HAD MY LAST TOYOTA FOR 14 YEARS AND DROVE IT FOR 239K MILES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF A USUALLY RELIABLE VEHICLE AND THINK IT MUST BE A DEFECT. *TT

MY MOTOR COULD HAVE CONCEIVABLY BURNED UP WITHOUT MY KNOWING THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG. MY 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE IS NOW USING AT LEAST 1/2 - 1 QTS OF OIL EVERY 1200 MILES. WE HAVE A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 245,000 MILES THAT ONLY USES APPROX. 1/2 QT OIL PER 3,000 MILES. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I CAN SEE THAT MINE IS NOT A SINGULAR EVENT. 2007 - 2009 TOYOTA CAMRYS HAVE BEEN NOTED TO HAVE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. MY CAMRY IS BURNING APPROXIMATELY 2 QTS EVERY 3,000 MILES. PER TOYOTA'S REQUEST, MY CAR HAS BEEN ROUTINELY SERVICED BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS; HOWEVER, NO ONE HAS EVER BROUGHT THE KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY MODEL YEAR TO MY ATTENTION. THE MOST I'VE EVER HEARD, "YOUR CAR WAS A LITTLE LOW ON OIL." WITH A PUBLISHED SERVICE BULLETIN, TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ALL EFFECTED OWNERS WITH THIS INFORMATION. FEW DAYS BEFORE THAT I NOTICED A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CALL MY MECHANIC AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT. ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT NOTICED CLANKING NOISE INCREASE WHEN I STARTED ENGINE. NOT EVEN 2 MILES LATER MY ENGINE -BOOM!- HAD THROWN ROD THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE, MAKING A LARGE HOLE, SPILLING OIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT AND PULL TO THE SIDE WITHOUT CAUSING ACCIDENT. TOWED CAR TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA CENTER, WHERE THEY OPENED TOP COVER OF THE ENGINE AND RIGHT AWAY ANNOUNCED THAT ENGINE IS GELLED AND TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE TO THEM THE SLUDGE THEY SAW LOOKED LIKE CLEAR CASE OF POOR MAINTENANCE. EVEN THOUGH I CAREFULLY KEPT AND PRODUCED ALL RECEIPTS SHOWING THAT I WAS CHANGING OIL, FILTER AND ROTATED TIRES EVERY 5000 MILES. LEAK RETURNED W/I 277 MILES OF SHORT BLACK REPLACEMENT. FILING ARBITRATION. VEHICLE STILL LEAKING AND ENGINE OIL LEAK IS VERY OBVIOUS. *TR
WHILE PARKING AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE CAR ACCELERATED LIKE A ROCKET AND JUMPED OVER THE PARKING CURB ONTO THE ROAD WITH TWO WAY TRAFFIC. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE CAR FLEW ACROSS THE ROAD AND HIT A FENCE AND WAS STOPPED ONLY WHEN IT FELL INTO A DITCH BY THE RAILROAD TRACKS. LUCKILY THE CAR DID NOT TURN OVER. SURPRISINGLY, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I KEPT HITTING THE BREAKS AND WHEN THE CAR STOPPED MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE.
I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I PURCHASED IT IN 2008. IT STARTED SHAKING/VIBRATING EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A STOP LIGHT ONE YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED IT. AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY CAR ENGINE SPED UP, FORCING ME TO PRESS DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO INCREASE IN SPEED, AND I PLACED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE RACED QUITE HIGH. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, THE ENGINE STOPPED, AND I RESTARTED IT A FEW SECONDS LATER WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, FOUND NO INDICATION OF IT IN THE COMPUTER/ELECTRONIC LOGS IN THE CAR. THEY HAD THEIR SERVICE MANAGER & QUALITY CONTROL MANAGERS CHECK IT. 2009 CAMRY 4CYL. - WHEN ENGINE WAS STARTED, WITH TRANSMISSION IN PARK, THE ENGINE REVVED TO OVER 4500 RPM WITHOUT ANY CONTACT WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER OFF THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THERE WAS RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE RADIATOR AND AIR CONDITIONER COOLING COIL WERE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 26,837.

IF THE AUTO IS IN AN ATTACHED GARAGE THIS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL CO POISONING TO OCCUPANTS WITHIN THE DWELLING. I HAVE OBSERVED A HYBRID CONTINUOUSLY RESTARTING WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4400.

I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. I GOT AN OIL CHANGE. A DAY LATER THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON. I JUST ASSUMED THAT THEY DIDN'T RESET MY OIL CHANGE LIGHT.
