WHILE DRIVING, MY BRAKES HAVE GONE OUT (AS IN I HAVE NO BRAKES) SEVERAL TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. AT THE SAME TIME MY (ABS, CHECK VSC SYSTEM) LIGHT ILLUMINATE AND MY BRAKE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ILLUMINATED. I VERY CAREFULLY DROVE IT HOME AND WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT TO FIX.
THE HAND BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S COASTING AND HAVE NO TRACTION CONTROL. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, ALL LIGHTS TURN ON DASHBOARD AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM COMES ON, BRAKES ARE HARD TO ENGAGE AND STEERING CONTROL IS DIFFICULT. CAR DRIVES LIKE THAT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THEN ALL GOES BACK TO NORMAL. FEW DAYS LATER IT STARTS UP AGAIN WITH THE BREAK LIGHTS COMING ON AND OFF. IT HAPPENS DURING DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS: STRAIGHT CITY STREET, WHILE TURNING, GOING DOWN A HILL OR ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP. THIS MAKES IT REALLY SCARY AS I AM IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN I AM TRYING TO BREAK AND THE BREAK DO NOT ENGAGE AND STEERING CONTROL IS AFFECTED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MECHANIC AFTER THE INCIDENTS AND THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE AND THERE ARE NO FAILURE CODES. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE KEEPS GOING ON MAKING ME TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE CAR.
WHEN I DRIVING BACK YESTERDAY JAN 1ST 2019 FROM FRIENDS HOUSE SUDDENLY THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM TURNED ON AND OTHER ICONS TURNED ON IN THE CAR DASHBOARD. I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN AND THEY DO NOT ENGAGE OR THEY WOULD ENGAGE ON A DELAY, VEHICLE TOOK LONG TIME TO STOP. IT WAS HARD DRIVING BACK AND I WAS SCARED OF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENING EVEN AFTER TURNING ON EMERGENCY BLINKERS ON MY DRIVE BACK HOME. TOYOTA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE IT AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
BRAKE, ABS AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, CHECK VSC MESSAGE CAME ON AND MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. I WAS LEAVING MY PARKING LOT AND GOT HALFWAY DOWN THE BLOCK WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I COULD NOT BRAKE SO I LET THE CAR ROLL TO A STOP AND USED THE CURB TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP. CAR I HAD NOT MOVED SINCE I DROVE IT REALLY SLOW TO HOUSE.
TOYOTA CAMRY ABS ACTUATOR/ECM FAILURE. I HAVE A 2009 CAMRY THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND HAD NO KNOWN ISSUES UNTIL LAST WED 2/7/18 WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ALL OF SUDDEN BOTH THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER WENT HAYWIRE AND STARTED JUMPING UP AND DOWN FROM 0 TO THE MAX, THEN BOTH THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE TEMP GAUGE DROPPED TO ZERO. I THOUGHT THAT THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO SHUT OFF BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. MY CAR WAS STILL DRIVING, BUT NONE OF THE GAUGES REGISTERED THAT THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS REMAINED ON. TODAY IS EXACTLY A WEEK FROM THAT INITIAL WARNING AND I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN IN DRIVE MODE FOR MORE THAN 20 MINS. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO HAS MAINTAINED THE CAR SINCE MY PURCHASE FOR DIAGNOSIS ON 2/8/18 AND WAS TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THE ISSUE IS THE BAD ABS ACTUATOR AND ECM AND THAT BOTH PIECES ARE A PART OF THE CAR'S COMPUTER THAT SENDS THE SIGNAL FOR THE BRAKES TO STOP. I WAS ALSO TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT THERE WAS A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE HYBRID CAMRY FOR THE SAME YEAR, AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS PLACED FOR THE HYBRID BUT NOT FOR MY CAMRY LE. I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD AND A ISSUE WITH FAULTY PARTS INSTALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW TOYOTA IS SAYING THE REPAIR IS $2500. THIS SHOULD BE INCLUDED ALONG WITH THE HYBRID UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE FOUND ON INTERNET SEARCHES THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE ISSUE SINCE AT 2010 BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO OFFER REPAIRS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEREAS THE DRIVER IS NEVER CERTAIN THAT THE BRAKES WILL WORK OR FAIL. I SAY THAT MAYBE THIS CAR SHOULD BE UNDER A FULL RECALL BECAUSE I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MY ENGINE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL, THEY TESTED IT MID YEAR 2017 AND I WAS JUST TOLD THAT MY CAR FAILED THE TEST AND NEEDS TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE ON THAT AS WELL AS THE ABS ACTUATOR.
I HAVE A TOYOTA CAMRY (2009 AROUND 84K MILES ON IT) AND YESTERDAY I NOTICED, THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THEN THE SPEED ODOMETER STOP WORKING AND DID SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON MANY SITES ,THERE IS A RECALL ONLY FOR TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID MODELS(HTTPS://WWW.CONSUMERREPORTS.ORG/CRO/NEWS/2014/07/WHY-TOYOTA-SHOULD-RECALL-THE-CAMRY-HYBRID/INDEX.HTM) NOT FOR OTHER MODELS AND THIS REPAIR COST WOULD GO UPTO 2700 $ WHICH IS 10% OF THE CAR COST . TILL NOW PEOPLE USED TO THINK TOYOTA IS A RELIABLE CAR BUT CERTAINLY THIS IS NOT WITH THESE TYPES OF APPROACH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE CORRECTLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, A LOUD CHIRPING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE BRAKES AND THE ABS AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) INDICATOR ILLUMINATED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT FAILURE CODE: T1391 PERTAINING TO THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND VSC FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE ABS, VSC, AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE OF THE FAILURE, AND A CASE WAS OPENED AND SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER'S LEGAL DIVISION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,138.
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID ECB HAS FAILED WHICH CAUSES BRAKING ISSUES AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS REPORTING THIS TO THE NHTSA, BUT NO ACTION TAKEN. PLEASE FORCE A RECALL AS THE WHOLE BRAKING SYSTEM IS AT RISK.
THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON. THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER FELL TO ZERO. SOMETIMES THE ODOMETER WOULD JUMP UP AND DOWN FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DROPS TO ZERO. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S ABOUT TO TURN OFF BUT DOES NOT. A/C DOES NOT GIVE OFF COLD AIR. GEAR LIGHT INDICATOR GOES OFF OR INDICATES DRIVE GEAR NO MATTER ON WHAT GEAR. *TR
I TURNED ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 HYBRID IN THE GARAGE AND WAS IMMEDIATELY MET BY NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS, AN AUDIBLE WARNING BUZZER, AND A MESSAGE IN THE DASH MESSAGE CENTER THAT READ "CHECK VSC." I WAS GOING TO DRIVE THE CAR TO A MECHANIC BUT DISCOVERED THAT WHEN I BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE THAT THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION. THEY HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. THE CAR WAS PLACED ON A COMPUTER WHICH PROVIDED ERROR CODE C1256 AND C1391. BOTH CODES INDICATE ABS/VSC/TRAC MALFUNCTIONS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND SUPPLIED A COMPUTER PRINT OUT OF THE ERROR CODES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE ABS ACCUMULATOR MODULE RESULTING IN A LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. COST OF REPLACEMENT WITH LABOR WAS QUOTED AS $3,700.00. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA HAS REDESIGNED THE ABS ANNUNCIATOR MODULE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA WHO DENIED ANY A PROBLEM WITH THE PART. IF THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM, WHY DID THEY REDESIGN THE PART? THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IN RESULTED IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT MY ISSUE MANIFESTED ITSELF WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND NOT AT 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. ONE WEBSITE SET UP BY SOMEONE WHO EXPERIENCED THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM HAD THIRTY FIVE ENTRIES IN THE GUEST BOOK. EVERYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE IN PARKING LOT. WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) PROBLEM, ALONG WITH ABS PROBLEM. PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE, SLOWLY MOVED BACKWARDS. BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE NORMALLY, ONLY IF THE PEDAL WAS FULLY DEPRESSED. TOOK VEHICLE (SLOWLY) TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER. PART THAT FAILED IS THE STROKE SENSOR, WHICH CONTROLS THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKES. HAD THIS FAILED AT FREEWAY SPEEDS I AM UNSURE THAT I COULD HAVE SAFELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE OR AVOIDED A COLLISION. THIS SENSOR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE AS ITS FAILURE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS PART (ACCORDING TO THE DEALER) DID NOT FAIL DUE TO ABUSE, NEGLECT OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE. *JB
