WHILE DRIVING, ON BRAKING, THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A GRINDING/RUBBING NOISE APPEARING TO COME FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE SEEMED AS IF THE VEHICLE ENGINE/MOTOR WAS GOING TO SEIZE UP OR SOMETHING WOULD BREAK INSIDE. SLOWLY TOOK IT TO A LOCAL TIRE KINGDOM REPAIR SHOP WHO WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ONCE THEY STARTED THE VEHICLE AND WERE ALARMED BY THE ENGINE NOISE. ADVISED TO TAKE IT TO AN ENGINE REPAIR SHOP. SLOWLY, CAUTIOUSLY DROVE HOME AND PARKED. ON STARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE, NEXT DAY, THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RUN FINE ON PARKED AND NEUTRAL. ON SHIFTING TO DRIVE OR REVERSE THE RUBBING/GRINDING NOISE BEGINS AGAIN. HAVE BEEN RESTRAINED TO SITTING AT HOME INSTEAD OF DOING MY RIDE SHARING AND DELIVERY WORK. RECENTLY HAD THE TIMING CHAIN AND CAM SHAFT GEAR REPLACED.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

BOUGHT 09 CAMRY NEW. IN 2015, @ 130,000 MILES, THE "LOW OIL" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, (THEY OVERFILLED THE ENGINE WITH OIL). WHEN CAME BACK IN 1200 MILES WAS TOLD THE CAR IS BURNING OIL BUT NOT ENOUGH FOR TOYOTA TO COVER THE REPAIR (SINCE THEY OVERFILLED THE ENGINE WITH OIL) THE CAR CONTINUED TO CONSUME MORE OIL. NOW AT 170,000 MILES, THE CAR BURNS AROUND 2 QRTS OF OIL EVERY 1000. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

ON DECEMBER 3, 2017, MY HUSBAND WAS PARKING OUR 2009 CAMRY ON A CITY STREET WHEN WE EXPERIENCED THE TERRIFYING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM THAT HAS PLAGUED THIS MODEL ' AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED BY THE FLOOR MAT AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL RECALLS. AS MY HUSBAND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE TO MOVE SLIGHTLY FORWARD IN THE PARKING SPACE, THERE WAS A LOW ROARING, RACING MOTOR-TYPE SOUND FROM THE GEAR BOX/TRANSMISSION AREA AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. BRAKING COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AND IT DROVE INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF US. BECAUSE WE WERE MOVING AT LOW SPEED THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO EITHER CAR. BUT THERE WAS PERMANENT DAMAGE TO OUR TRUST IN THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF OUR 2009 CAMRY, WHICH WE VOWED NEVER TO DRIVE AGAIN. OUR OCCASIONAL PRIOR EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR'S RACING MOTOR PROBLEMS HAD NEVER CAUSED US TO LOSE CONTROL. FOR EXAMPLE, A FEW YEARS AGO WE HAD RACING ENGINE PROBLEM WHEN BRAKING FOR A LIGHT AFTER COMING OFF A HIGH SPEED INTERSTATE. ON BOTH DECEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 3, 2017, WE HAD A RACING MOTOR EXPERIENCE DURING PARKING WHEN WE WERE IN REVERSE BUT IT DID NOT CAUSE ANY LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IN EACH OF THESE INSTANCES WE WERE ABLE TO USE THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WHO TOOK THE CAR AWAY WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HALF A BLOCK TO HIS TRUCK WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM.

I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE WITH 53,000 MILES ON IT. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE DURING DRIVING . UPON INSPECTION I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR. I ALSO FOUND THAT THERE WAS PINK POWDER RESIDUE ON THE ENGINE NEAR THE SERPENTINE BELT WHERE THE WATER PUMP IS LOCATED . DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE CARS BUILT FROM 2007-2009 CAMRYS HAD THE SAME ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY. SOME CARS HAD 10,000 MILES OR LESS WITH THE PROBLEM. ALSO FOUND OUT TOYOTA REPLACED THE WATER PUMPS ON THESE CAMRYS WITH A WATERPUMP BUILT FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY. I FILLED THE RESERVOIR WITH COOLANT AND TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID INDEED THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING. THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT HAD EXPIRED. THERE WOULD BE NO COOLANT LEAKING UNDER THE CAR. DURING MANY OF THE OIL CHANGES THE TOYOTA TECHNICIANS WOULD ADD COOLANT AND TOP IT OFF AND NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THE WATER PUMP LEAKING . I ONLY FOUND OUT BECAUSE I SAW THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND STARTED LOOKING FOR A LEAK. I BELIEVE TOYOTA KNEW THESE WATER PUMPS WERE DEFECTIVE , AND ONLY CHANGED IT FOR PEOPLE WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEMS UNDER WARRANTY WITH A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER OF THE WATER PUMP FREE OF CHARGE . ENGINES WITHOUT COOLANT CAN GET HOT AND CATCH FIRE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE OF DEFECTIVE WATER PUMPS.

2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, SHE DETECTED A SLIGHT CHALLENGE AS SHE SHIFTED THE GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO HAVE DISAPPEARED. UNFORTUNATELY, SUBSEQUENT INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE SERVICE DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. DURING HER DRIVE ON JUNE 1, 2013, THE CLUTCH PEDAL BECAME SLUGGISH AND DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RETURN TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION UPON RELEASE AND WITHIN SECONDS, IT STAYED STUCK TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. ALTHOUGH, SHE WAS NOT CHARGED, THE SERVICE INCLUDED AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND A TEST DRIVE. ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS SUGGESTED SHE RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR FURTHER EVALUATION IF THE ISSUE BECAME PROBLEMATIC. THE PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH AND EVENTUALLY THE STICK RESURFACED SEVERAL HOURS AFTER RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ACCUMULATOR ASSEMBLY, HOSE, TUBE AND CLUTCH RELEASE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,800. UPDATED 7/18/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A 20-30 SECOND DELAY WHEN SHIFTING TO SECOND GEAR. THIS 2009 CAMRY WHICH IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY IS EQUIPPED WITH TRACTION CONTROL WITH NO SWITCH TO DISABLE IT DURING ICY CONDITIONS. THE CAR IS OPERATED IN COLORADO WHERE SNOW PACKED AND ICY ROADS ARE COMMON. WHEN THESE CONDITIONS EXIST AND THE CAR IS STOPPED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE OR AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT ON AN INCLINE, THE POWER TO THE FRONT WHEELS IS AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN BECAUSE THE WHEELS ARE SPINNING ON THE ICE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SHUTS THE POWER DOWN TO THEM TO THE POINT THEY WILL NOT TURN. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE UNLESS YOU BACK IT UP AND TAKE A RUN AT THE HILL. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR 2 REASONS: 1. IF THERE IS A CAR BEHIND YOU, YOU CANNOT BACK UP WHICH CREATES A TRAFFIC JAM AND REQUIRES CARS GO AROUND YOU WHICH CAN BE A HAZARD. 2. WHEN YOU GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A RUN AT THE HILL, YOU CANNOT STOP OTHERWISE THE CAR WILL STALL WHICH MEANS YOU MUST ENTER INTO A STREET WITHOUT STOPPING WHICH IS DANGEROUS AND IN MANY CASES ILLEGAL. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTALL A SWITCH, AND THAT I SHOULD EXPRESS MY CONCERNS TO THE TOYOTA EXPERIENCE LINE. THIS SITUATION IS A CATASTROPHE WAITING TO HAPPEN AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. ALSO, THE 2012 CAMRY HAS A SWITCH TO DISABLE THE TRACTION CONTROL IN ICY CONDITIONS. I HAVE CAMRY 2009. IT CURRENTLY HAS 34400 MILES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA DEALER - AFTER A TECHNICIAN TESTS DRIVE THE VEHICLE - THE ISSUE IS DESCRIBED "DOWNSHIFT ISSUE UNDER HEAVY BRAKE". BELOW IS DETAILS OF THE PROBLEM. AFTER I APPLY BRAKE AT STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED BUT THEN VEHICLE IS STILL JUMPING UP - MOVING UP JUST RIGHT AFTER IT STOPS. BELOW IS HOW TOYOTA RESPONDS ON THE ISSUE. ON AUGUST 5TH, 2011, I BRING THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN IS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND OPEN A CASE NUMBER REPORTING TO GST (GULF STATE TOYOTA). I HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH GST AND TOYOTA DEALER UNTIL 8/30/2011. ON AUGUST 31ST, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN 2ND TIME SO THAT THE DEALER CAN COLLECT MORE INFORMATION AND SEND TO GST (ACCORDING TO THE DEALER). THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE LAST TIME. BUT THEY WILL NEED TO RE-PROGRAM (SOFTWARE) ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SO THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM CAN RE-LEARN THE SHIFTING PATTERN OF THE TRANSMISSION. HERE IS MY OPINIONS. I AM NOT CONVINCED AT ALL THIS WILL RE-SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE MIGHT APPEAR AGAIN ANY TIME. HERE ARE SOME MORE FACTS. DURING THE WAITING TIME - 3 WEEKS - I DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THE DEALER CERTAINLY DOES NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE LONG ENOUGH BEFORE THEY CAN SEE THE ISSUE AGAIN. WHEN I DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON THE 2ND TIME, I SEE IT HAPPENS TWICE. THIS KIND OF ISSUE ABSOLUTELY MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS WHEN I HAVE TO APPLY BRAKING. I HOPE TOYOTA CAN ROOT CAUSE THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BOTH IN THE GARAGE AND IN PARKING LOTS. MENTIONED PROBLEM TO FRIEND WITH SAME CAR AND HE SAID HE HADN'T NOTICED A PROBLEM BUT CAME TO WORK SEVERAL MONTHS LATER AND SAID IT HAD HAPPENED TO HIM WHILE HIS WIFE WAS A PASSENGER.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE IT BECAME HARD TO ACCELERATE. THE SKID LIGHT, VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF STARTED IT BACK UP IT DROVE FINE BUT THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK THE CAR IN. THIS WAS PURCHASED AS A DEALER DEMO AND HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS WATER IN MY ENGINE AND THE OIL WAS MILKY. TO ME THIS SOUNDED LIKE A HEAD GASKET BUT THEY ASSURED ME THEY RAN A TEST FOR THAT. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PCV VALVE CLAIMING THE VALVE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY THIS WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE WATER. I DON'T KNOW IF THE PART IS STILL AROUND OR NOT. I HOPE THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD WARM IT UP FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES A DAY WHICH SOUNDS A LITTLE WEIRD TO ME BEING A FAIRLY NEW CAR. *TR

ON DECEMBER 31, 2008, I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE FROM MARIETTA TOYOTA. THE CAR HAS A PERSISTENT HESITATION PROBLEM WHICH MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE IN MANY SITUATIONS. I HAD AN INCIDENT AROUND FEBRUARY 20, 2010 WHERE THE HESITATION PROBLEM ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC ON SOUTH COBB DRIVE FROM A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. TRAFFIC FLOW DEMANDED THAT I MERGE INTO TRAFFIC BRISKLY WITHOUT DELAY - SOMETHING I EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO DO WITH A $30,000 V6 TOYOTA CAMRY. I GAVE THE CAR GAS AND IT HESITATED HORRIBLY. THE ENGINE DIED DOWN THEN FINALLY WENT WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE CAR VIBRATED VIOLENTLY AS THE FRONT WHEELS SPUN OUT. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. AS TRAFFIC APPROACHED I WAS SCARED AND REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF THE DRIVERS WHO SLOWED DOWN. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS THE WAY THE CAR WORKS AND THAT I WOULD GET USED TO IT. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR OVER A YEAR AND JUST OVER 20,000 MILES, I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT 'USED' TO IT. ON MY THIRD VISIT I SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. HE WAS VERY POLITE AND HONEST. REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT IN HIS OPINION (HE STATED MANY TIMES MAKING SURE THAT I UNDERSTOOD THAT THIS WAS HIS OPINION) TOYOTA MADE A MISTAKE IN HOW THEY DESIGNED THE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER SOFTWARE. REPRESENTATIVE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT TOYOTA TRIED TO MAKE THE TRANSMISSION STAY IN THE HIGHEST GEAR POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES TO SAVE GAS AND THAT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED THE COMPUTER TOOK A FEW MOMENTS TO DETERMINE WHICH GEAR IT SHOULD DOWNSHIFT TO. IT IS NOT A "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" PROBLEM, BUT A SUDDEN FREE-WHEELING PROBLEM, MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING ON LEVEL OR DOWNHILL ROADS. AS YOU BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP, THE AUTO TRANS. DOWNSHIFTS INTO A LOWER GEAR, BUT IT DOESN'T DO IT FAST ENOUGH, SO IT MOMENTARILY GOES THROUGH NEUTRAL CREATING A MOMENTARY FREE-WHEELING SITUATION THAT DOES ACCELERATE THE CAR JUST AS YOU ARE WANTING TO COME TO A STOP. IT IS PARTICULARLY DISCONCERTING WHEN BRAKING INTO AN INTERSECTION WHILE GOING DOWN HILL. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER ON 5/21/09 TO REPORT IT, HOPING THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT NORMAL AND CREATED CASE # 0905126552 AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY DEALER, WHICH I DID ON 06/01/09. CNN IS GIVING BAD ADVICE ON TOYOTA GAS PEDAL PROBLEM I DISAGREE WITH THE ADVICE PROVIDED BY OMAR PANJSHIRI, A CERTIFIED TOYOTA TECHNICIAN AT THE CHANTILLY REPAIR CENTER IN CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA. ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, HE STATED THAT: "IF THE PEDAL IS STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION, HERE IS WHAT THE DRIVER CAN DO: (I) SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL; (II) TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH; AND (III) APPLY THE BRAKES AND PULL OVER." MR. PANJSHIRI EXPLAINED THAT WITH THE ENGINE CUT OFF, "YOU WILL LOSE SOME POWER STEERING ASSIST, BUT YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOPPING POSITION." THIS IS VERY BAD ADVICE. THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. IF THE PEDAL IS STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION, THE DRIVER SHOULD TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND APPLY THE BRAKES. THE DRIVER SHOULD NOT SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. THE TRANSMISSION KEEPS THE ENGINE GOING, HELPING TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR, AND IT KEEPS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WORKING. A FEW YEARS AGO THE GAS PEDAL RETURN SPRING BROKE ON MY CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM FIX THE PROBLEM YESTERDAY. THEY HAD MY CAR ALL DAY FOR THAT AND A 5,000-MILE SERVICE. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK AND THEY SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NORMAL. THEY TEST DROVE IT AND DIDN'T GET THAT PROBLEM. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE MY CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THE DEALER SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT! I THINK THAT IS A DANGEROUS CAR AND THE DEALER IS DENYING THAT THE CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. THE CONSUMERS ARE BEING RIPPED OFF. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT MY VENT BUTTON RELEASING EVERY THREE MINUTES ON COLD, RAINY DAYS. THEY ALSO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SO, I AM STILL STUCK WITH THAT PROBLEM AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND HAVE TOYOTA RECALL THE CARS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. NEW CARS SHOULD NOT BE LIKE THAT. *TR
