WHEN THE TOYOTA CAMRY WAS PARKED BY A CURB ON THE STREET, WITHOUT ANYTHING OR ANYONE TOUCHING IT. THE WHOLE BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED INTO PIECES FOR NO UNKNOWN REASON. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THE WIND WAS BLOWING A LITTLE STRONGER THAN NORMAL AND THE TEMPERATURE DROP ABOUT 15 DEGREE OVER THE TIME IT WAS PARKED. THE PICTURE IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME. THE PIECES STARTED TO FALL DOWN AS I DROVE.
GLARE ON WINDSHIELD CAUSED FROM MELTING DASHBOARD, I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE A PERSON WALKING NEAR THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND NOW THINK THIS WILL EFFECT HOW THE AIRBAG MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT WORK IF ACTIVATED, MY CAR IS DEALER SERVICED TO THE MANUFACTURES REQUIREMENTS BY TOYOTA. MY CAR IS IN 1ST CLASS CONDITION APART FROM THE DASH WHICH NOW HAS CRACKS 2MM IN WIDTH AND A STICKY GLAZE. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA. LOW MILEAGE. MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD IS CRACKING APART FORE SOME UNKNOWN REASON. THE SURFACE IS BECOMING GUMMY AND SHINY. INTERFERES WITH VISIBLILITY WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL USED. THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE DASH. THIS IS ABSURD. I HAVE SEEN ALMOST 100 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. THEY NEED TO RECALL AND MAKE GOOD ON A DEFAULTY DASHBOARD THAT IS HAZARDOUS. *TR
I AM ONLY OWNER OF THIS TOYOTA, IT IS GARAGED OR HAS SUN VISORS IN PLACE. I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME CRACKED/CRACKING DASH AS OTHERS. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS TO OCCUR. I TOO WONDER WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IF EVER MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY. THE CRACKING SO FAR IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH. THIS STARTED EITHER IN FALL OF 2012. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR WITH AIRBAGS THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW BUTTONS SUDDENLY BEGAN SMOKING AND CAUGHT FIRE AS I WAS DRIVING HOME. THE FIRE BURNT A HOLE IN THE CONSOLE. *TR
THESE BODY STYLE OF THIS CAR PRODUCES SEVERAL BLIND SPOTS FOR THE DRIVER. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE IS THE ELEVATED POSTERIOR WINDOWS THAT MAKE BACKING UP/DRIVING IN REVERSE AS WELL AS CHANGING LANES DIFFICULT. I HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS SINCE ACQUIRING THIS CAR IN 2009. EACH INCIDENT INVOLVED THE CORNERS OF THE REAR BUMPER AND RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE CAR. *TR
BLACK FOAM USED IN THE A/C DUCTS BECOMES DISLOGED AND BLOWS INTO THE EYES OF THE OPERATOR, CAUSING TEMPORARY EYE SIGHT IMPAIRMENT. *TR
THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM TO ITS MOTOR SHAFT LOOSENED AND CAUSED THE ARM TO VIBRATE. IF THE NUT HAD LOOSENED FURTHER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE COULD COME OFF CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF VISIBILITY IN RAIN OR OTHER WINDSHIELD DEBRIS CONDITIONS. THE NUT WAS EASY TO TIGHTEN AND REQUIRED ONLY APPROX 180 DEG CLOCKWISE ROTATION TO TIGHTEN. THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM WAS NOT LOOSE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED ON ALL CAMRYS. *TR
2006 TOYOTA SOLARA XLE CONVERTIBLE PASSENGER WINDOW EXPLODED AND SHATTERED WHEN PASSING A MEDIUM-SIZED TRUCK ON A SMOOTH CLEAN HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. NO INDICATION OF OBJECT THROWN BY TRUCK AS WINDOW EXPLODED SHORTLY AFTER THE WINDOW WAS FORWARD OF THE TRUCKS FRONT BUMPER. NORMAL HIGHWAY WIDTH SPACING WITH NO CONVERGENCE OF THE VEHICLES. ALL WINDOWS WERE UP, CONVERTIBLE TOP SECURED UP AND AIR-CONDITIONING ON. WINDOW SAFETY GLASS PERFORMED WELL AS NO LONG SHARDS OR SHARP EDGES WERE FORMED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 50 MPH THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR FELL OUT OF THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY SHELL. THE DEALER SPECULATED THAT SHE MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE MIRROR TO FALL OUT. THE MIRROR WAS REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF $222.00. SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 21,000. UPDATED 12/7/09 *CN UPDATED 12/08/09.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOUNTING CLIPS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE WINDOWS TO FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,650 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,632. UPDATE 10/01/08 *CW UPDATED 10/02/08. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE WITH A CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE OF 12,953 . THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN A CRASH ON MARCH 27, 2007 THE DRIVER WAS BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. SHE COULD NOT SEE OUT OF THE REARVIEW MIRROR BECAUSE THE HEAD REST WAS TOO BIG. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED. THE CONTACT STATED TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF HE COULD GET THE HEADREST TAKEN OFF OR REPLACED WITH SMALLER ONE, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HEADREST COULD NOT BE REMOVED OR REPLACED.*AK UPDATE 05/04/07*TR\UPDATED 08/08/07. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE, ANOTHER VEHICLE PASSED BY SETTING OFF THE CAR ALARM. AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF THE ALARM, THE CONTACT SHUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. UPON SHUTTING THE DOOR, THE REAR WINDSHIELD IMPLODED ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE TOYOTA DETERMINED A STONE MUST HAVE HIT THE VEHICLE'S REAR WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO IMPLODE. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THE REAR WINDSHIELD DID NOT HAVE A PROTECTIVE COATING. THE CONTACT CONTENDS THAT IF A STONE CAN COMPROMISE THE INTEGRITY OF THE REAR WINDSHIELD, THIS IS SAFETY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 06/23/06- THE CONSUMER REQUESTED RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
THE DEFOGGER WIRES IN THE REAR WINDOW REFLECT HEADLIGHTS AND GLARE FROM BEHIND THE VEHICLE. IT CREATES A PRISM EFFECT, WITH 10-12 LINES SHOWING BOTH ABOVE AND BELOW EACH AND EVERY HEADLIGHT OR BRIGHT LIGHT SOURCE BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE IMAGE YOU SEE IN YOUR REAR-VIEW MIRROR IS FALSE, MISLEADING AND DISTRACTING. CHANGING TINT AND/OR MIRROR DOES NOT AFFECT THE PROBLEM. THE REAR WINDOWS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN THAT INCLUDES DEFOGGER WIRES THAT HAVE A NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VISIBILITY OF THE WINDSHIELD IS DISTORTED. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO FOCUS THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WITHOUT BECOMING DIZZY AND LIGHT HEADED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THERE WERE NO DEFECTS IN THE WINDSHIELD.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE USING THE HEATER, THE HEAT SYSTEM RELEASED AN UNIDENTIFIED ODOR. AS A RESULT OF THE ODOR, ALL PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THROAT, NOSE AND BRONCHIAL TUBES ITCHING AND BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND ASKED THAT THE VEHICLE BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. UPDATED 03/09/06
