While making a right turn, your steering wheel locked in place and wouldn't straighten out. At the same time, all the dashboard lights turned off and the car became completely unresponsive. This caused a crash. The combination of the steering lock and electrical failure left you unable to control the vehicle.

While backing into a parking space, your car suddenly accelerated in reverse at high speed despite your attempts to brake, causing it to crash over a curb, sidewalk, and into an iron fence. The brakes were unresponsive and the car didn't stop until impact. A similar uncontrolled reverse acceleration incident occurred years earlier, also resulting in a crash. The cause of these sudden acceleration events is unknown.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO AN UTILITY POLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. DURING THE CRASH THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK, TORSO, AND NECK INJURIES. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 238,000.

YESTERDAY, JULY 26, 2015, I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL A SECOND LETTER FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM - ZE6 CONCERNING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STICKY DASHBOARD OF SOME MAKE AND MODEL. MINE IS A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA. IT'S RIDICULOUS WHY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT IS ONLY FOR THE STICKY DASHBOARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND INSIDE DOOR PANELS ARE MADE OF THE EXACT SAME MATERIAL. THESE PARTS MUST BE COVERED AS WELL ESPECIALLY WE TOUCH THESE PARTS EVERY SINGLE TIME WE USE THE VEHICLE. ON MINE, I NOTICED THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE MATERIAL SINCE LAST YEAR WHEN I WAS WIPE CLEANING THE INTERIOR OF MY SOLARA. THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT MUST BE EXTENDED TO FIX THE MATERIAL ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND DOOR PANELS. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS BECAUSE I READ BLOGS AND THERE ARE OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE EVEN ON LEXUS 2006. YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE WE PAY A LOT IN PURCHASING OUR VEHICLES AND WE DESERVE OUR MONEY'S WORTH.

MANY CAMRY VEHICLES HAVE IT, ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THE WEB FOR MODELS (2001 THROUGH WHATEVER, SEDANS OR NOT). FIXING IT COSTS A FORTUNE, SORT OF (1200 $ OR SO). THEY ARE SELLING LEMONS, AND RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE ! THE NHTSA SHOULD WAKE UP FOR ONCE AND GET TOYOTA FLAGGED. THEY (THE JAPANESE COMPANIES, INCLUDING TAKATA, - AND GOD KNOWS WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SO-CALLED ZERO DEFECT JAPANESE MOTTO) ARE RAKING IT IN AND TAKING THE CUSTOMERS FOR A RIDE. IT IS TIME THAT NHTSA GETS INVOLVED AND CALL IT FOR WHAT IT IS - A RECALL - AND HAVE THE COMPANY FIX THE PROBLEM. WE ARE EXPERIENCING STEERING WHEEL "CLUNKING' AND NOISES BEHIND THE STEERING COLUMN AND UNDER THE CAR WHEN WE MAKE TURNS AND JUST DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED AN INSPECTION ON THE CAR. HE SAID THAT THIS MAKE AND YEAR OF THE CAMRY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM. TRUE, I SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE HOMEWORK. I WAS GAUGING MY DECISION ON MY PREVIOUS OWNERSHIP OF A CAMRY I HAD IN THE 90'S. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT CAR. I JUST WENT TO A WEBSITE, CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, AND SEEN ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES ABOUT THIS STEERING DEFECT, SOME TO THE POINT OF THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING! OVER AND OVER I SEEN THESE CUSTOMERS TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER OR CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY WERE AFFORDED NO ASSISTANCE. THEY WERE TOLD THEY SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK BEFORE 36, 000 MILES, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THAT THEY COULD FIND, JUST REAL COWARDLY BEHAVIOR FROM THE PEOPLE WHO COULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THIS PERSISTENT SAFETY ISSUE! I AM STILL DISCOVERING ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES WITH THIS STEERING PROBLEM BUT IT SEEMS TO BE NATIONWIDE SO WHY ARE THEY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS DEFECT? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BOOT WAS LEAKING AND THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,794. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,276.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

I'VE GOT VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH CAR DEALER. I HAVE BOUGHT TOYOTA CAMRY 2006 AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 2006. AFTER RECEIVING A NEW CAR, I HAD HEARD SOME KIND OF NOISE WHEN I DROVE THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME. AT THAT POINT, I KNEW THAT THIS KIND OF NOISE WAS NORMAL BECAUSE MY CAR WAS BRAND NEW. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT NOISE HAD GOT LOUDER TIME AFTER TIME, AND DID NOT STOP. TO FIX A NOISE PROBLEM ON MY CAR, I CHECKED MY CAR TO TOYOTA. TOYOTA FOUND THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THAT MY CAR NEEDED TO REPLACE A WHOLE TRANSMISSION. AT THAT TIME, I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE FACT THAT MY NEW CAR NEEDED TO FIX, BECAUSE MY CAR HAD GOT JUST 500 MILEAGE ON IT AND JUST PASSED TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR. FURTHERMORE, I FELT DISPLEASURE AND WAS VERY UPSET ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES' ATTITUDE. I WANTED TO TRADE IN MY CAR WITH A NEW ANOTHER CAMRY. THEY REQUIRED ME TO PAY FOR 7000 DOLLAR MORE WITH MY OLD CAR. I HAD BEEN WAITED FOR MORE ONE HOUR TO MAKE DEAL WITH ONE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES. AT THAT TIME, I HAD FELT SOME KIND OF DISCRIMINATION. EVEN WORSE, THIS THURSDAY, I ALSO HAVE HEARD SAME NOISE AGAIN. TO CHECK THE NOISE, I DROPPED OFF MY CAR AGAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT MY CAR HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM ON STEERING SHAPE AT THIS TIME. I LET HIM REPAIR IT AGAIN. UNTIL THIS VERY DAY, EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS CHECKED TWICE AT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE, I CAN HEAR THE SAME NOISE AGAIN. I'VE KNOWN THAT THE QUALITY OF TOYOTA IS VERY GOOD AND TRUSTED THE SERVICE. FOR NOW, I AM SO DOUBT ABOUT THE TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE. IT SEEMS THE TECHNICIANS ARE NOT TRAINED TO BE PROFESSIONAL TO REPAIR TOYOTA CARS OR THEY DID NOT TRY TO CHECK MY CAR. I AM WONDERING IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER WAYS TO CHANGE MY CAR. LIKE I MENTIONED ABOUT MY CAR, I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE IT TO THE ANOTHER NEW CAR, IF POSSIBLE. STEERING WHEEL PULLS LEFT AND RIGHT, MORE FREQUENT ON FREEWAY ESPECIALLY GOING AROUND CURVES AND HAVE TO HOLD WHEEL FIRMLY. PULLS SOMETIMES WHEN BRAKING AND DRIVING OVER SMALL BUMPS. STEERING WHEEL IS STIFF AT TIMES WHEN MAKING SHARP TURNS IN TIGHT SPACES AS IF THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. CAR WOBBLES TOO MUCH WHEN GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS. 8JB
