THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE RIB CAGE AND STERNUM, AND WAS TRANSPORTED VIA AMBULANCE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE CONTACT CALLED LEWIS TOYOTA OF TOPEKA (LOCATED AT 2951 SW FAIRLAWN RD, TOPEKA, KS 66614, (785) 273-2220) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON CITY STREETS WITH MY WIFE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT THE PASSENGER "AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE CAR HAS 78,131 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE TOYOTA OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE "AIR BAG OFF" INDICATOR MEANS THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT I DID NOT SEE THAT TOYOTA HAS TAKEN ANY ACTION. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GET INJURED OR KILLED. IF THERE IS A RECALL NOW OR IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

ON APRIL 21, 2015 I HAD MY CAR IN THE DEALER FOR A OIL CHANGE ETC. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALER I NOTICED THAT MY AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON LOCATED ON THE DASH AND ALSO THE AIR BAG LIGHT STATED THAT IT WAS OFF. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND SHOWED HIM WHAT HAPPENED AND HE STATED THAT IT WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM AND IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $700.00 TO REPAIR THE COMPUTER. I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT ON WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND NOW IT IS ON. I ONLY HAVE APPROX., 48,000 ON THIS CAR AND I PURCHASED IT NEW IN NOV. 2005. HE DID NOT FIX IT AND I AM CONCERNED THAT IF I GET INTO A ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK. I DO NOT HAVE THE $700.00 TO GET IT FIXED. I DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT HE TOLD ME, IT MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. AS LONG AS THE AIRBAG LIGHTS ARE ON IT WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. I NEED IT FIXED. THANK YOU.

REF VEHICLE HIT CURB, ACCELERATED UP HILL FROM PARKING LOT AND WENT AIRBORNE, CRASHED DOWN INTO GUARDRAIL AT APPROX 45-50MPH AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER IS SURE REF VEHICLE WOULD HAVE CONTINUED TRAVELING FORWARD IF NOT FOR GUARDRAIL! DRIVER OF VEHICLE (AND GRANDSON) WERE TAKEN IN AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL AND IN TRIAGE ALL DAY. DRIVER SUFFERED HEAD AND EYE INJURIES AND HEMATOMAS FROM NECK DOWN. GRANDSON REPORTED SLIGHT BACK PAIN AND WAS RELEASED. THANKFULLY, NEITHER OF REF VEHICLE'S OCCUPANTS WERE MAIMED OR DIED. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, FOUND THERE ARE 2006 TOYOTA CAMRYS WITH ETC ISSUES. AGAIN, NO CONTROL OF ANY ASPECT OF CAR - COULD NOT PUT IN NEUTRAL, GEAR SHIFT JUST "FLOATED" OVER ALL GEARS WHEN TRYING TO USE! WOULD LIKE FOR NHTSA TO INSPECT GAS PEDAL FOR "WHISKERS" OR OTHER PROBLEMS THAT LED TO THIS. AS DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE, I CAN HONESTLY STATE THAT I HAVE A GREAT DRIVING RECORD AND I AM NOT PRONE TO "DRIVER ERROR" PUTTING FOOT ON GAS PEDAL INSTEAD OF BRAKE (AND ACCELERATING TO THAT DISTANCE) AND THERE WAS NO CARPET FOR PEDAL TO STICK UNDER. THE FIRST TIME THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED, HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, WENT OVER A CURB AND IMPACTED THE SIDE OF A BUILDING. HE IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, USING THE KEY. THE AIR BAD DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JUNE 30, 2014. HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, IT WENT OVER A CURB AND INTO A FENCE. HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THIS STARTED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND IS CONTINUING TO GET WORSE WITH MORE DETERIORATION. THE SAFETY ISSUE PROBLEM IS THE DASHBOARD IS VERY SHINY AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY. THE CRACKS IN THE DASHBOARD ARE ALSO A CONCERN SINCE THEY MAY INTERFERE WITH THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE DASHBOARD AIR BAGS IN AN ACCIDENT. WIFE WAS DRIVING AND NOTED THAT THE RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAD GONE ON. WE STOPPED. I MOVED THE SEAT AND BEGAN DRIVING. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS OFF. THE LIGHT REMAINED OFF UNTIL EARLY 2014, WHEN IT BEGAN ALTERNATING PERIODS OF ON AND OFF. ON MARCH 27, 2014, WE TOOK OUR CAMRY TO OUR TOYOTA DEALER. THE DEALER WROTE (REPORT IS IN THE COMPUTER HOLDINGS OF TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A.): "FOUND THE SEAT TRACK FLOOR COVERING HAS COME LOOSE WHICH ONCE THE SEAT HAS MOVED IT CAUSED THE COVER TO [BE] PUSHED AGAINST THE AIRBAG CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE SEAT. THIS CAUSES THE LIGHT TO COME ON DUE TO NO COMMUNICATION AT THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB CONNECTOR. (CODE B1821)" THE DEALER REPAIRED THE WIRING. IT IS EVIDENT NOW THAT EACH TIME MY WIFE OR I MOVED THE DRIVER'S SEAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF DISRUPTION OF THE AIRBAG ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT. THE SEAT IS DRIVEN BY AN ELECTRIC MOTOR, SO THERE WAS NO CHANCE WE DISRUPTED THE WIRING AS MIGHT HAPPEN WITH A MANUALLY READJUSTED SEAT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT CAUSED BY POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN AND NOT A "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE. THE AIRBAG ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED SO AS TO HAVE BEEN SAFE FROM DISRUPTION BY MOVEMENT OF THE DRIVER'S-SIDE SEAT. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA CAMRY 2006 FROM MAPLE HILL AUTO GROUP IN KALAMAZOO, MI IN MARCH OF 2011. THE CAR HAD 49,202 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. WHEN I TEST DROVE IT, I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. I EXPRESSED CONCERN TO THE SALESMAN WHO INDICATED "OH, THAT'S JUST A SENSOR ISSUE, THAT CAN BE FIXED QUICKLY." I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH SOME RESERVATION ABOUT THE LIGHT. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THE LIGHT WAS OFF (THEY HAD TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO FIX). EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS IN AUGUST WHEN THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. I RETURNED IT TO MAPLE HILL AUTO AND WAS TOLD BY THE SALESMAN THAT "THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS NOT PART OF POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT BE FIXED. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD "TWEAK"IT AGAIN BUT IN EVIDENTLY THE ENTIRE FRONT SEAT MAY HAVE TO BE REMOVED AT A COST OF ABOUT $3000, WHICH OF COURSE I DON'T HAVE. SO THEY "TWEAKED" IT AGAIN AND IT WAS OKAY FOR A WHILE. NOW, JULY 2012, IT HAS COME BACK ON AGAIN. ON MY SALES AGREEMENT WITH MAPLE HILL AUTO IT STATES "DEALER WILL REPAIR AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE." OBVIOUSLY, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED. THE CAR ONLY HAD 49,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON ORIGINALLY. THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY FOR CAMRYS IS SUPPOSED TO BE 60,0000 MILES FOR THIS ISSUE. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED AND LIED TO BY THE DEALER WHO ONLY TOOK IT TO TOYOTA TO GET THE LIGHT TEMPORARILY OFF SO I WOULD BUY THE CAR. I BELIEVE THEY KNEW IT WAS A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE I BELIEVE TOYOTA TOLD THEM IT WOULD BE A RECURRING PROBLEM. WHEN I GENTLY APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ZOOMED FORWARD AND STRUCK THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING, SHATTERING A LARGE GLASS WINDOW AND ITS FRAME AND AREA AROUND IT. THIS STOPPED THE CAR. I PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND BACKED INTO THE PARKING SPACE. THE AIR BAG DID NOT INFLATE. FORTUNATELY, THE OCCUPANT OF THAT OFFICE HAD JUST LEFT. OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY FLYING GLASS. I HAD NEVER BEFORE HAD TROUBLE OF THIS KIND WITH THIS TOYOTA. THE DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED, BUT I SOLD THE CAR TO THE AUTO BODY SHOP. *TR

MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2006, PURCHASED ON 3/29/06 WAS INVOLVED IN TWO MAJOR ACCIDENTS AND IT WAS TOTALLED AFTER THE SECOND MAJOR ACCIDENT WHICH OCCOURED ON 3/30/07. ON THE FIRST MAJOR ACCIDENT, MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT THE SIGNAL, INSTEAD IT RACED FORWARD ON ITS OWN AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. ON THE SECOND MAJOR INCIDENT, AFTER STOPPING THE CAR AND ALLOWING ANOTHER CAR TO PASS ON THE SAME ROAD IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, SHE MADE A LEFT TURN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AND HIT A BIG TREE STANDING AT AN ELEVATED PART OF THE ROAD. BY LOOKING AT THE SCENE ANYBODY CAN COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT SOME KIND OF MALFUNCTIONING OF THE ACCELERATION MECHANISM HAS HAPPENED. IN BOTH OF THESE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, NONE OF THE AIR-BAGS DEPLOYED. THE SAME CAR HAD ANOTHER SIMILAR INCIDENT BUT NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED AND THEREFORE, THAT INCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED TO POLICE BUT A CO-WORKER DROVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE RETAINING POND. IN THIS INCIDENT, MY WIFE AFTER PARKING THE CAR, TRIED TO PULL IT A LITTLE FURTHER AND THEN THE CAR JUMPED ACROSS THE CONCRETE BUMP AND FELL INTO THE RETAINING POND. LUCKLY THERE WAS NO WATER. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER PROCEEDED THROUGH A STOP SIGN CAUSING THE DRIVER TO CRASH AND REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SUSTAIN INJURIES TO HER CHEST, LEFT LEG AND BROKEN FINGERS ON HER LEFT HAND. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY FAILURES WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

WHEN I TRIED TO LOWER THE POWER WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY THE WINDOW SYSTEM MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE BUT IT WOULD NOT LOWER. IT SEEMS LIKE THE WINDOW FELL OFF ITS TRACK AND IS NOW INOPERABLE. TOYOTA CORP. SAID THEY WOULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR UNDER THE WARRANTY WHICH JUST RAN OUT TWO WEEKS AGO. I BELIEVE THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. IN 2008 TOYOTA RECALLED THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLAS FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THE CAMRY MODEL. 2006 CAMRY....WHILE INCHING MY CAR FORWARD IN MY DRIVEWAY TO POSITION THE CAR TO BACK IT UP, I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE AND MOVING AT A SPEED OF NO MORE THAN 2-3 MPH. THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHICH KEPT INCREASING. I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE, DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T ME. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. BEFORE I KNEW IT, I HIT HEAD ON THE VERY LARGE TREE AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 FT FROM THE TREE WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON, WHICH SAVED ME FROM SMACKING MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HEAD JERKED FORWARD AND I HAD A TREMENDOUS HEADACHE AFTERWARDS WITH PAIN IN MY NECK. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND MY HUSBAND REACHED IN THE WINDOW AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT UP AGAIN, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND I CAREFULLY MOVED IT AWAY FROM THE TREE. THE FORCE WITH WHICH I HIT THE TREE PUSHED IN MY FRONT END AND ALSO DID SOME DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD SINCE THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR TO CHECK THIS OUT. HE DID SAY THAT IF HE DOESN'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE BY TOYOTA. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM ANXIOUS FOR THE RESULTS AND WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. *JB

THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
