2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Transmission Problems

Despite having the EGR replaced under recall the unit still exploded while driving on wed 4 Mar 2026. Fluids were leaking and had indicated issues with the electric shifter. The local dealerships states the egr cooler needs replaced, coolant tank, DPF and oil change (despite just being done the Saturday before).

My car keeps slipping into neutral, not able to go over forty three miles per hour. Will not go into park or drive at times. Electrical issues.

When stopping and suddenly accelrating jeep has a power delay and you have to hit the throttle agressively to get going or else I run the risk of getting hit by another car, but once you hit throttle the power is more than you need it or expected it, forcing me to brake or else I hit the pcar infront of me. I am still not able to make this work.

Th cylinder has low compression causing misfire in the vehicle. The misfire can cause the vehicle to lose power. If you lose power on a highway it could cause an accident.

Loud ticking noise from engine that speeds up upon acceleration. Failing rocker arm causing debris leading to ticking noise. No error codes.

I’ve recently noticed when leaving my driveway my 2015 jeep grand Cherokee shifts hard / feels as if the transmission is slipping. Today out of now where my vehicle starts slowing down and the RPM is getting higher . I luckily was able to get to the side of the highway to pull over with 3 children in the car .

The transmission fails and defaults to 3rd or 4th gear when downshifting or hitting a pothole. The vehicle then has to limp to a service center for evaluation and repair. At such low speeds during the limp for service, the highway driver is at significant risk or accident

Vehicle purchased 2/9/23 First claim is filed at tire kingdom 2/14/23 ( tires needed balancing , lower oil pan gasket , belt tensioner mentioned the engine shaking and was told they aren’t sure ) Tire kingdom ; 2/16/23 ( engine mounts changed ) Tire kingdom ; 2/20/23 engine diagnostics ( tire kingdom found no failure no check engine light ) Tirekingdom; 2/23/23 ( spark plugs , harmonic balancer ) Dealership 2/27/23 cylinder head replacements Dealership ; 3/14/23 engine mounts , alignment tire balance ( claim denied ) thermostat denied as no failure Tirekingdom ; 3/15/23 referred back to dealership for engine issue again .

My 2015 Grand Cherokee has a Service Shifter warning that has come on and causes the transmission to jump while driving. I've taken this problem to the dealership and was initially charged for a new shifter and wiring harness. Two weeks later the problem returned.

My shifter has been having issues with shifting the gear into the right position. For example, numerous times I would put the vehicle in park (by pressing on the break and moving it all the way forward) & it would get stuck in reverse and go backwards. This happened more times than I can count and that is a major safety issue that can cause an accident.

On April 23rd at 9:28pm I was driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015 on a highway at approximately 45mph when suddenly the transmission slipped to neutral without any human interference. I tried shifting it back to drive but the transmission did not respond. The Jeep lost momentum very quickly and came to a complete stop in the highway.

My jeep has now on 2 occasions at a high rate of speed lost all ability to accelerate- april 29 & may 1st while driving on a highway at 70mph in rush hour traffic the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate- it felt like the engine slipped into neutral-however it was still in drive-I verified this- vehicle rapidly decelerated - I barely got off the highway without being in a collision- vehicle then after being restarted was able to engage into drive again and move both forward & backwards dealership was unable to determine problem however upon taking the car home on may 1st same thing happened again- this time with a eyewitness as well may 1 at 50mph- engine (still running) cut out as if it slipped into neutral - the vehicle still said it was in drive when the vehicle came to a full stop- the light for gear shift - changed & it read that jt was in neutral - simultaneously a message popped up (only after it was stopped) 'vehicle speed is too high to shift' of course we were already stopped and never tried to shift it anyway my jeep was manufactured in september 2014-this problem closely correlates with another recall that is limited to same jeep models made prior to july 2014 see NHTSA campaign number 19v447 (see link below) this is incredibly dangerous and the dealership seems to have no awareness of this problem in jeeps made in the same year as mine

I CALLED THE DEALER (TURNERSVILLE JEEP) FOR AN APPOINTMENT ON MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2021. THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT WAS ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 12 2021. THIS DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE UNTIL FRIDAY, JANUARY 15. THIS DEALER DECLINED TO REPAIR THE EGR SYSTEM UNDER THE W79 RECALL, BUT DID REPLACE ALL FUEL INJECTORS AND THE FUEL TUBES AFTER FINDING THE FUEL INJECTORS RESTRICTED. THIS DEALER THEN CLEARED THE DTC P026C-00 AND PERFORMED A STATIONARY REGENERATION. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AT 5:15 PM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 2021 AND PROCEEDED TO ROAD TEST THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 75 MILES OF DRIVING, I SUFFERED A EXTEME AND SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AT APPROXIMATELY 7:30 PM; THE DASH INDICATORS INCLUDED THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP, AN ERROR REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY, AND AN ERROR THAT THE OIL PRESSURE WAS LOW. Received a recall 1 month go but the dealer cannot repair-no parts!! Recall w58 "a loss of motive power can result in a vehicle crash without prior warning" now I am frightened to drive to work but no way to get it repaired???

I have been aware that my model of jeep has a history of problems and legal suits concerning the gear shift. My jeep is an automatic transmission as decoded by the VIN. The shift selector has all of a sudden been saying service shifter.

I have a 2015 jeep grand cherokee with 49,000 miles. In a three day period the transmissions started to have problems shifting a total of five times. It would violently start to shudder while in motion at highway speeds and nearly caused a terrible accident.

I had the approved emissions modification completed on my ecodiesel grand cherokee. Since these was completed there is a very noticeable lag when pressing on the gas. When trying to pull out into an intersection the lag is so bad (1-3 seconds) and you feel as if you are unable to move.

Recall 16v-240: last night, I received a call while in the grocery store that my car had been involved in an accident. When I went outside, my car had run into the car front of me in the parking lot. The car was running, the doors were locked and the engine was in gear.

There are a total of three incidents that had occurred, all within a couple months of each other. The first incident happened late december/ early january. Finishing up work I leave the building and start my car up.

Since the shifter always returns to the center position, there is no positive "feel" that the lever is indeed in park.

Driving on highway 290 West near Waller. At 75mph I attempted to pass slower traffic by accelerating after moving into the farthest left (passing) lane when my Jeep lost power. Had to maneuver while coasting between traffic in lanes (frogger anyone?) to farthest right lane by coasting through to an exit by chance.

I have had major problems with my vehicle relating to recalls.

A week later, service shifter light came back on while I was driving on a side street, all the lights on the dash came on, unable to control anything, lost steering, then vehicle shut off in the middle of the road.

2015 grand cherokee altitude- 3.6l. Just hit 95000 miles and suddenly car continues to up shift to 8th gear even at lower speeds. When accelerator is depressed, car will downshift but with no acceleration depressed, car will move all the way to 8th.

At approximately 60,000 miles the vehicle had just been serviced and new tires were installed. We left the next morning for a vacation. About 100 miles down the limited access highway and traveling at 65 to 70 miles per hour the dash and information touch screen began flashing and a chime began repeating.

THIS OCCURS AGAIN SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DAY OR WILL HAPPEN ONCE EVERY WEEK OR SO. I WAS TOLD TO CHANGE THE TCM, BATTERY, SPARK PLUGS AND CLEAN THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I CONTINUE TO HAVE SERVICE SHIFTER AND CHECK ENGINE ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE, WHICH HAVE BEEN ONGOING FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE STATIONARY, IN MOTION BOTH ON CITY/NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS OR ON THE HIGHWAY. IT'S HAPPENED WHILE TURNING AND IN PARK. WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE AND SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHTS COME ONE, IN MANY CASES THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND I LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, WHICH CAUSES A SEVERE SAFETY RISK IF IT OCCURS WHILE TURNING OR GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. MANY TIMES MY DASHBOARD WILL GO COMPLETELY BLACK FOR SECONDS AND MY WIND SHIELD WIPERS WILL TURN ON. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE RELATED TO THIS ISSUE FOR 180 DAYS OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE, THE TCM, THE TELEMAX COMMUNICATION MODULE, THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE SHIFTER, BUT THE ISSUE ALWAYS COMES BACK. OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS THE ISSUES HAVE GOTTEN WORSE AND THE VEHICLE IS GETTING MORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. BASED ON MY RESEARCH THERE ARE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF THESE ISSUES AND FCA SHOULD TAKE ACTION.

THE LIGHT ON SHIFTER BEGAN TO GO OFF AND ON AND IT GETTING OUT OF SHIFT BECAME MORE FREQUENT ...TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN SOUTHAVEN MS...SERVICE MGR SAID THERE HAD NO COMPLAINTS...MY RESEARCH SHOWED DIFFERENT...HE SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE PLACE BUT BACK ORDER...THIS WAS IN NOVEMBER. IT IS NOW JANUARY, 21 AND I AM STILL DRIVING AND THE SHIFTER IS STILL ON BACK ORDER, ACCORDING TO LANDERS JEEP THEY KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE ABLE TO REPLACE WITH CORP SAYING THAT 357 SHIFTERS SO FAR ARE ON BACK ORDER...THAT IS ALL THAT THEY WOULD DO....THIS SITUATION IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS BUT SCARY...CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO SHOVE UNDER THE RUG ISSUES WITH THE SHIFTER AND DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS WHO NEED MORE THAN JUST LIES AND BLANK STARES.

EVEN IF THERE'S NO FIX, SHOULDN'T WE THE CONSUMER BEEN NOTIFIED OF A RECALL THAT POSES A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE? I HAVE NO VEHICLE, WITH NO FIX AND THE CHRYSLER REFUSES TO PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE. OUR CONTACTS WITH CHRYSLER HAVE YIELDED NOTHING BUT A PROMISE FOR A CASE MANAGER TO CALL. NOTHING. NO VEHICLE, NO FIX, NO LOANER.

THEY TELL ME IT'S A NON SERVICEABLE VEHICLE UNLESS THERE ARE ANY ERROR CODES. ONE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY CLEARED THEY COMPUTER AND UPDATED THE PROGRAMMING. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. MOST RECENT ISSUE, JULY 9TH, STARTED TO DRIVE AND VEHICLE SELF SHIFTED BACK INTO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE IS BECOMING MORE UNRELIABLE EACH DAY.

I PURCHASED MY GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 30K MILES. BEFORE I EVEN MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED THROUGH MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. DAYS AFTER DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT, IT WOULD SLAM DOWN THROUGH GEARS DURING DECELERATION AND JUMP/JERK WHEN SHIFTING UP. A LOUD METAL THUD ACCOMPANIED THESE JOLTS BETWEEN GEARS EVERY TIME. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY, AND 25K MILES LATER (JEEP HAS 55K TOTAL) AND THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE RETURNING. RANDOM JOLTS AND JERKY SHIFTS DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, SPECIFICALLY WHEN GOING UP OR DOWN A SLOPE OR WHEN GETTING BACK ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE WHEN DRIVING. THE DECELERATION AND DOWNSHIFT BETWEEN GEARS IS SO JARRING SOMETIMES WHEN SLOWING DOWN THAT MYSELF AND PASSENGERS WILL HAVE OUR HEADS BANG FORWARD AND SEATBELT CATCH THE WEIGHT OF OUR BODIES. THE THUD NOISE IS COMING BACK RANDOMLY AS WELL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WITH ONLY 5K MILES LEFT ON MANUFACTURER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, I'M NERVOUS THAT HAVING IT'S 3RD TRANSMISSION IN LESS THAN 60K MILES IS GOING TO BE A FUTURE PROBLEM AGAIN NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. At a regular oil change service, it was discovered that there was an engine oil cooler leak for a 2015 jeep grand cherokee with less than 58000 miles on it. No warning indicators were illuminated. Deal requested to have it replaced because it's dangerous drive.

I was traveling up interstate 95 just passed exit 26 in connecticut. As I approached exit 27 a a vehicle in the exit only lane merged into the slow lane in front of me. I proceeded to then accelerate around the vehicle that had crossed in front of me and immediately as I accelerated the vehicle began to accelerate uncontrollably to an unsafe speed.

At times when starting out as soon as we depress the gas pedal the transmission jumps to park & we cannot shift out of park. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to when it will happen. Nobody seems to find a reason for it so they can't fix it.

Service shifter message appeared at 62,000 miles upon starting engine and shifting into any gear or turning on cruise control. Will go away after approx. 5 seconds but occurs every time the car operates.

My car goes from drive, to park, to neutral or reverse with little to no touch of the gear shifter. This is a huge safety issue, as recently assuming I was still in drive mode, noted that the gear had actually shifted to neutral. Had it shifted to reverse instead, my children and I could have been badly hurt, likely found to be at fault, consequently also facing financial anguish.

Arrived home 10:15pm dry roads and weather. Backing jeep into driveway and went to full throttle back to hit the garage structure and door. Shifted two drive to move out into the driveway and went to full throttle forward, across the street, through the swale into a vacant lot and hit the avista power transformer box knocking its off the base and pulling the 7,000 volt power cables out.

I have the 2015 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel that received the emissions update required by the epa diesel settlement which chrysler fca. I noticed substantial lag problems the instant I pulled out onto the open road after the update from bonneville jeep in manchester nh. The vehicle is dead off the line and there is a 2-3 second turbo lag at all speeds.

A "service shifter" messgage flashes across the dashboard screen and the lights on the shifter do no light up.

Takata recall- while driving at speeds above 35 miles, it feels as if the vehicle slows down as if the gears changed and it requires more pressure to be applied to the gas accelerator for the vehicle to go the same speed. This has happened multiple times at speeds of approximately 35 and over.

When driving for about 20mn after slowing down to go threw town and coming to a stop. I will start driving again and. Trying to get up to speed my jeep will not shift gears.

Vehicle begins the shift hard. Slamming into gears then all lit guts on dashboard come on. Car then looses all power including power brakes and power steering.

When in motion, transmission downshifts to first gear. Engine races.

The jeep's electronic transmission did not fully shift in to the "park" position while still running. I am putting in a complaint for my 2015 jeep grand cherokee and the electronic shifter. On multiple occasions, I have been in a situation where quickly selecting gears or switching gears was necessary in order to avoid a hazardous situation.

I have a 2015 jeep grand cherokee with a monostable gear shifter. Numerous times I have had the car go into an undesired gear. On october 20, 2015, I drove the car into the garage to park it; I placed it in what I thought to be park, exited the vehicle, and then the vehicle (in reverse) started to drive out of the garage.

Shifter design is very poor. Cannot tell when it is in park or reverse. Also cannot shift between drive and reverse without going into park first.

Vehicle does not go into park at first attempt. Goes to reverse and if not careful you think you have placed it in parked and it will roll away or move in reverse. I was dropping off a dvd rental, I left the car running and pushed the 'return to center' shifter all the way up to the stop limit quickly and got out of the vehicle. My 23 year old son was in the passenger seat and yelled out "dad the car is moving" I jumped back in put my foot on the brake and watched the shift indicator as I slowly moved the shifter up so it indicated park.

The electronic gear shifter is difficult to use and often shifts into an unintended gear during use. For instance, when pulling into a driveway and then reversing, I often get delayed in the maneuver as the shifter will shift to n instead of r from d, or while trying to reverse from p, it will shift to n instead of r.

With a cold transmission (usually) the vehicle has a hard time going from 1st gear to 2nd. There is lag/delay and then when it shifts there is a lurch forward movement. This is happening when shifting from park to drive and then moving...I.e.

Electronic gear shifter is extremely dangerous, it takes me two or three tries to get the jeep into the correct gear every time I start the vehicle. Fiat chrysler needs to recall these and fix them immediately.

Car going forward slowly ....attempting to park car.... Placed shift lever towards park ,all the way forward...pushed the ignition button.(to shut off ignition). The automatic transmission shifter does not have a positive feel and is difficult to find the correct gear. Shift gates are minimal. It is very easy to unintentionally leave the car in "reverse" when you intend to put it in "park".

On numerous occasions throughout 2015 the vehicle has failed to shift into park, drive and or reverse when the shift lever was actuated to select those gears ! If you do not pay particularly close attention to the indicators you do not realise that the vehicle is not in the selected gear and will roll off or move in an unintended direction .

I experienced the problem reported in the news article regarding the confusing chrysler jeep electronic shifter. I left my car running and thought I had put it into park. I walked around the car and went into my house for 5 minutes.

On several occasions, the transmission was not full engaged in park, when I started to exit the vehicle and the unit began moving. While I have not been injured, the system of shifting needs to be improved, so that it is clear the unit is in park. It is hard to see the dash indicator regarding what gear the vehicle is engaged.

The electronic gear shift can be confusing since it is easy to lose track of the number of 'virtual' steps it has moved in either direction. The operator was attempting to enter the vehicle while it was running and in park. As the operator attempted to enter the vehicle he placed his left hand on the top of the driver's side door and his right hand on the steering wheel. The vehicle transmission engaged and the vehicle started to move in reverse.

I travel for a living, own and operate many vehicles. I recently rented a grand cherokee for a week of sales in mo. The combination of the keyless ignition and electronic shift are very dangerous for the following reasons: to start, you put your foot on the pedal and push the button.

When moving the gear shift all the up from drive to park the car is not always in park but reverse. This has happened multiple times and the car will begin moving backward when I take my foot of the brake. It seems like the computer is not quick enough to recognize the movement of the shifter.
