The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated; just a loud bang washeard when the headrest deployed.

2/24/26 around 10:45am CST the passenger seat headrest exploded/combusted with a very loud popping noise while driving the car 40 MPH on a smooth surface road. Luckily nobody was sitting in the passenger seat. I don't want to drive my car as now I'm afraid this will happen to the driver's seat headrest.

After picking up my 2 year old son from daycare on dan valley road (city street) in madison, nc, I began to turn out of the parking lot. After getting half a mile down the road (still in motion) there is a loud popping sound that occurred in the front passenger seat. As I look over I see that the passenger seat headrest is detached.

On sunday, june 3, 2018, I entered the left front driver's seat of my 2015 jeep grand cherokee (which is always parked inside my enclosed garage in southern california) and immediately discovered that the driver's headrest was in a protruding position.

On 12/11/17 my vehicle was vandalized. The tires and rims were stolen and the back window was busted. However once having my jeep fixed at the collision center the heated seats are not working properly.

Active headrest activated by itself with no collision. Inspection revealed a plastic tab is broken. This is known by jeep as a defective piece of equipment.

The vehicle was stationary and parked, but still running. The front passenger seat was unoccupied and there was a loud popping sound as the front passenger seat headrest "exploded." a couple of plastic pieces flew out. There was no reason for the headrest to deploy.

I was driving down the highway to work and all of a sudden my headrest came apart and hit my head. I was able to get pulled over but was stunned with what had just happened. I called a dealership to get the part fixed and they want 750 dollars.

The driver side head restraint mysteriously came apart. We discovered it one morning as we were getting into our car. We've read that there is an extended warranty applicable to the restraint.

I was driving and all of sudden I heard a loud noise. And seen that the HEADREST had pooped open on its own for no reason.

While driving down the road the active headrest on the passenger seat activated and came apart. It is now hanging on by the cord. The dealer we bought the Jeep off of said because it is out of warranty there is nothing they can do.

The component that failed is the front passenger active headrest. It is available for inspection upon request. When the component failed, a few pieces of plastic/metal flew out of the headrest.

While driving down the road my driver's side head rest popped open causing my head to be pushed forward. As a result I had to pull over and stop my vehicle. It caused head and neck pain.

While backing down my driveway, the headrest popped forward suddenly. There were no indicator lights or warnings before it happened. I consulted a mechanic regarding a repair/replacement.

We heard a loud “pop” noise and realized the drivers side headrest popped open.

Driver's side headrest popped open and will not latch back in place. Was not driving at the time but this could have been dangerous had it popped opened during vehicle operation. THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING STILL. I DID RECEIVE A LETTER FOR A RECALL. I MISPLACED THE LETTER. CAN I GET ANOTHER SO WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER I CAN PRESENT IT TO THEM SO THEY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. THANK YOU.

MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN A NEIGHBORHOOD AND HER BODY JUST SHOT FORWARD LIKE SOMEBODY SHOVED HER FROM BEHIND. THE HEADREST SHOT OUT OF PLACE AND HIT HER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD FORCING HER FORWARD. SHE HAD SOME NECK PAIN FOR A LITTLE BIT BUT NOTHING SERIOUS. THANKFULLY IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT AND NOT THE DRIVER SEAT. I COULDN'T EVEN IMAGINE IF ONE OF US WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVING THIS HAPPEN TO THE DRIVER.

DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING.

DEFECTIVE ACTIVE HEADREST - ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN DRIVEWAY. PLASTIC COMPONENTS BROKEN WHICH HOLD ACTIVE HEADREST

THE HEADREST POPPED OUT WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. THE PLASTIC IN THE HEADREST APPEARS TO BE BROKEN.

HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED WITHOUT A REAR END COLLISION OR ANY OTHER MOVING EVENT MY WIFE WAS SIMPLY LOADING THE DOG INTO THE CAR AS IT WAS SITTING IN PARKING LOT AT VET OFFICE.

SHORTLY AFTER I TURNED RIGHT, WHILE LEAVING A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, OUT OF THE BLUE I WAS FORCEFULLY HIT IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD. I PULLED OVER IN CONFUSION TO ASSESS WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO FLYING OBJECTS IN THE CAR, NOR OTHER CARS BEHIND ME, AS I BRIEFLY WONDERED IF I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. UPON LEAVING MY VEHICLE, I IMMEDIATELY SAW THAT THE HEADREST WAS SPLIT OPEN, AND WAS THE CAUSE OF THE HARD SMACK ON THE HEAD.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST POPPED OPEN FOR NO REASON. THERE HAD BEEN NO COLLISION. ON INSPECTION OF THE RELEASE MECHANISM IT'S APPARENT THAT THE PLASTIC PIECE, RETAINING A PIN, BROKE AND CAUSED THE HEADREST TO RELEASE AND POP FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY (PARKED IN PARKING LOT) WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HAD SOMEONE BEEN DRIVING THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN INJURY.

WHILE SITTING COMPLETELY STILL AT A RED LIGHT ON A CITY STREET, MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEADREST POPPED. MY HEAD WAS PUSHED FORWARD AND A LOUD POPPING SOUND OCCURRED. I PULLED OVER TO ASSESS WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED AND NOTED THAT THE HEADREST HAD SPRUNG UPWARDS AND FORWARD. FURTHER VISUAL ASSESSMENT REVEALED THAT TWO PLASTIC PIECES APPEARED TO HAVE EXPLODED FOR NO REASON.

DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST RESTRAINT DEPLOYED WHILE PARKED. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. MATERIAL FAILURE CAUSED THE DEPLOYMENT, THE HEADREST IS NOW BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH I NOTICED THAT THE HEADREST POSITION WAS MORE INTRUSIVE THAN USUAL. I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE HEADREST BACK TO A NORMAL POSITION. IT MOVED AS THOUGH IT WERE SPRING LOADED. SUDDENLY I HEARD A POP AND MY HEAD WAS SHOVED FORWARD. THE HEADREST HAD DEPLOYED. I RECOVERED PIECES OF BROKEN BLACK PLASTIC FROM MY GARMENTS

WENT OUT TO DRIVEWAY TO GET IN CAR AND HEADREST ON DRIVERS SEAT WAS SPLIT OPEN, EXPOSING ALL INSIDES AND WILL NOT GO BACK TOGETHER.

WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAYS APPROXIMATELY 65 WHEN MY DAUGHTER TURNED TO GET SOMETHING FROM THE BACK SEAT. HER ARM HIT THE HEADRESTS AND IT DEPLOYED. LOOKING AT IT FURTHER SAW THAT IT WAS BROKEN.

MY PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST SYSTEM DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT. THE PLASTIC CLIP ASSEMBLY INSIDE IS DESTROYED AND SEEMS LIKE IT WAS NOT PROPERLY BUILT TO RETAIN THE PRESSURE.

THE HEAD REST ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT POPPED OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR. NO ACCIDENT WAS INVOLVED.

UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, I FOUND ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT (AHR) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IN A DEPLOYED POSITION. VISUAL INSPECTION SHOWED THAT PLASTIC ENCASING SAFETY PIN HAS CRACKED AND ALLOWED THE PIN TO SEPARATE, WITH METAL HOOKS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE RETAINING THE PIN. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A CARPORT OVERNIGHT, AND THE FACT THAT THE HOOKS HAVE NOT RELEASED THE PIN INDICATED THAT THE DEPLOYMENT WAS NOT TRIGGERED BY A COLLISION, AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO. I AM UNCERTAIN THAT A BLOW TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD WOULD CAUSE A NECK INJURY AS ALLEGED BY SOME WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WHILE SEATED. HOWEVER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SURPRISE AND A MAJOR DISTRACTION; AND AS SUCH, COULD INDEED CAUSE A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THAT THESE HEADRESTS MUST BE RECALLED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AS THE DESIGN IS DEFECTIVE, WITH PLASTIC DEGRADING FURTHER OVER TIME, AND CAUSING MORE OF THESE ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENTS TO OCCUR. I ALSO NOTICED, THAT MANY VEHICLE OWNERS HAVE CATEGORIZED THIS AS AN AIRBAG PROBLEM. WHILE THE AHR IS CONSIDERED TO BE A PART OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM, THERE ARE NO ACTUAL AIRBAGS INSIDE OR ANY OTHER EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL INSIDE THE AHR, ONLY CHEAP PLASTIC RETAINING A SAFETY PIN UNDER 75 LBS OF TENSION.

MY PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT SUDDENLY DEPLOYED, WITHOUT WARNING, FROM MY HEADREST WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A STRAIGHT RESIDENTIAL STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF FRONT OR REAR COLLISION AND HAD NOT ENCOUNTERED ANY BROKEN PAVEMENT, BUMPS, OR POTHOLES WHEN THE DEPLOYMENT OCCURRED. NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN THE HEADREST DEPLOYED, BUT THE NOISE AND FORCE OF THE DEPLOYMENT WAS STARTLING. I'M OBVIOUSLY VERY CONCERNED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST MAY ALSO DEPLOY AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING, POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY.

THE PASSENGER ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY AND JOLTED MY WIFE'S HEAD HURTING HER NECK WHICH IS STIFF AND SORE. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON CITY STREET AND MY WIFE JUST STEPPED IN AND SAT DOWN WHEN THE HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED. THE TWO HOOKS INSIDE THE HEAD RESTRAINT APPEAR TO BE DEFECTIVE. ONE HOOK BROKE COMPLETELY OFF, AND THE OTHER IS CRACKED AND BARELY ATTACHED TO THE HEAD RESTRAINT.*DT*JB

(STATIONARY) WAITING WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK POSITION, THE PASSENGER HEADREST POP OUT FORWARD AND SEPARATED FROM THE HEADREST TRIM (BACK OF HEADREST ) VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING AND THERE WAS 'NO' COLLISIONS TO ANY PART OF THE VEHICLE. IT JUST POPPED OUT WITHOUT ANY REASON. IF MY WIFE WAS IN THAT SEAT AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT SHE MIGHT HAD BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO A PREVIOUS BROKEN NECK.

HEADREST DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN PARK, IN A PARKING LOT, AND NO COLLISION OCCURRED. DRIVER, FRONT PASSENGER, AND TWO REAR SEAT PASSENGERS WERE IN THE VEHICLE. FRONT PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING STRIKING FRONT PASSENGER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. VEHICLE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONLINE ACCOUNTS OF THE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYING WITHOUT A VEHICLE COLLISION DUE TO LESS THAN ADEQUATE RELIABILITY OF PARTS WITHIN THE ACTIVE HEADREST ASSEMBLY. I AM REQUESTING REPLACEMENT THROUGH LOCAL DEALERSHIP; INITIAL FEEDBACK IS THE PART IS NOT COVERED AND I HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE IT. EVEN WITH A REPLACEMENT-IN-KIND ACTIVE HEADREST, THE EXPECTED RELIABILITY IS SUSPECT. THE OEM DESIGN SHOULD BE REVISITED TO ENSURE SAFE AND RELIABLE OPERATIONS.

HEADREST POP OFF ON ITS OWN ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT

THE PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AS I APPROACH THE STOP LIGHT. LUCKILY MY SON DID NOT SUFFER ANY INJURIES. IF IT HAD BEEN IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, IT WOULD OF CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT.

THE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND NOT INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. THE PLASTIC PART HOLDING THE ACTIVE HEADREST IN ITS NORMAL POSITION FAILED, RESULTING IN A PREMATURE UNPROVOKED DEPLOYMENT. IF I HAD BEEN IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT AT THE TIME I WOULD HAVE BEN HIT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THE IMPACT OF THE HEADREST ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD COULD LEAD TO MOMENTARY LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP SIGN, WHEN I HEARD A POP AND THEN FELT MY DRIVER SIDE HEADREST HIT ME IN THE HEAD. AFTER I STOPPED I SAW THAT IT HAD BEEN DEPLOYED WITH THE CLIPS BEING BROKEN.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON AN ACTIVE CITY STREET ROADWAY, THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST ON THE FRONT SEAT DEPLOYED. MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE SEAT AT THE TIME AND CAUSED HIM TO JOLT FORWARD CAUSING A SLIGHT NECK PAIN. THE UNEXPECTED POP OF THE HEADREST DEPLOYING CAUSED ME, THE DRIVER, TO SWERVE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED. RETAINING CLIPS ARE BROKEN AND THE ENTIRE HEADREST REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND THERE WAS NO JARRING MOTION OF ANY KIND WHEN THE DEPLOYMENT OCCURRED.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT A RATE OF 25 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD MY DRIVER SIDE AHR BRACKET HAD BROKEN AND DEPLOYED THE HEADREST SAFETY SYSTEM IN TO THE REAR OF MY HEAD CAUSING ME TO MOMENTARILY SWERVE INTO THE INCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES. IT WAS A VERY DISTURBING INCIDENT AND I AM EXPERIENCING MINOR NECK PAIN AND THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN IN THIS POSITION.

DRIVERS HEADREST DEPLOYED (POPPED) WHILE STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED, THE CAR WAS NOT STRUCK. DEALER STATES NOT UNDER WARRANTY

THE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED WITH WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY ON A PAVED COUNTY ROAD. THERE WAS NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED IT TO DEPLOY. LUCKILY MY WIFE WASN'T HURT.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD REST EXPLODED OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN. GAVE ME SEVERE NECK PAIN. I FIRST THOUGHT SOMEONE REAR ENDED ME CAUSE THE NOISE WAS SO LOUD. SO I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND FOUND NO ONE HIT ME LOOKS LIKE THE HEADREST MALFUNCTIONED AND EXPLODED OPEN.

ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED WITHOUT A CRASH OR REAR IMPACT. IT DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST POPPED FORWARD ABOUT 4 IN WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT. THE PLASTIC PIECES HOLDING THE STEEL PIN ARE BROKEN, SO IT IS UNREPAIRABLE WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE HEADREST. I'M VERY THANKFUL THIS DID NOT OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING, BUT CONCERNS ME THAT IT COULD HAPPEN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHILE I AM DRIVING.

WHILE PARKED THE DRIVERS SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED. COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY HURT SOMEONE. THE PLASTIC TABS THAT HOLD THE RELEASE PIN BROKE. IT WAS NOT DEPLOYED BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT THAT WOULD RELEASE THE PIN.

WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT ABOUT 35 MPH THROUGH A CITY PARK, THE DRIVER HEAD REST BLEW OPEN AND HIT ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND OR POTENTIAL REASON FOR IT TO BLOW OPEN. IT WAS A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND STRONG BLOW TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. I STOPPED TO ACCESS THE SITUATION AND SAW THAT THE DRIVER HEAD REST HAD POPPED OPEN. I CALLED FIAT CHRYSLER THE NEXT DAY TO FILE A CLAIM. THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT THEIR COST. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING WIP LASH PAIN 3+ WEEKS LATER AND PLAN OF SEEING A DOCTOR ASAP.

WHILE MY 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT, THE DRIVER'S SEAT HEADREST DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT DURING THE NIGHT THAT WOULD'VE CAUSED THE HEADREST TO DEPLOY, IT SIMPLY DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY CONCERN TO ME, SINCE IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE SOMEONE WAS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT.

AS I WAS DRIVING THE HEAD REST EXPLODED HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD AND NECK. CAR WAS NOT BREAKING OR DRIVING OVER ANY BUMPS AT THAT TIME

MY 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT DRIVER SIDE AHR HEADREST DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THERE WAS NO COLLISION AT ALL AND THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A COLLISION. IT MADE A VERY LOUD POP SOUND AND YOU COULD HEAR THE PLASTIC PARTS IN SIDE THE HEADREST BREAK. YOU CAN NOT ENGAGE THE HEADREST BACK INTO ITS NORMAL LOCKED POSITION SO THAT IT IS NOT DEPLOYED OUT. I WENT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT FIAT @800-247-9753. I CALLED THEM AND EXPLAINED MY SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS HEADREST AND TOLD THEM I WANTED THEM TO COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY. THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND SAID A SERVICE SPECIALIST WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT ME BACK IN 24-48 HOURS TO DISCUSS THEM COVERING THE SAFETY ISSUE.

PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED

UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON CITY STREETS WITH NO COLLISION THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST RESTRAINT (AHR) DEPLOYED. AFTER LOOKING AT IT THE PLASTIC CLIP THAT HOLDS IT TOGETHER HAD BROKEN, ALLOWING IT TO DEPLOY. THE HEADREST HAS NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED BEFORE OR RESET.

TWO PEOPLE WERE IN THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER AND A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING BUT IN PARK AT A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW AT ARBY'S. WHILE TAKING FOOD FROM THE EMPLOYEE THE PASSENGER HEADREST EXPLODED PUSHING THE 85 YEAR OLD PASSENGERS HEAD FORWARD. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT AND THE FORCE MADE THE CAR WIGGLE. AFTER THE INITIAL SHOCK AND SURPRISE IT WAS DISCOVERED THE HEADREST EXPLODED FOR NO REASON, JUST ON ITS OWN.

PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN AND NOW IT IS UNABLE TO BE RESET, THANKFULLY IT HAPPENED WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY NOT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET ON SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2020, THE FRONT PASSENGER HEADREST POPPED OPEN HITTING THE PASSENGER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. *TR

WHILE IN MOTION, DURING A ROUTINE SMOOTH DRIVE THE DRIVER SIDE VEHICLE HEADREST SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR IMPACT. UPON INSPECTION THE PLASTIC INSIDE HAS FATIGUED. THE VEHICLE HAS 33,000 MILES ON IT. IT CREATED A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AND REMAINS A SAFETY ISSUE UNTIL THE HEADREST CAN BE REPLACED. *TR

THE HEAD REST POPPED OUT WITHOUT ANY COLLISION. IT JUST HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY. AND IS NOT BROKE. *TR

Driver's side headrest activated for no reason - no one was in the car and it was parked in my driveway. Would have been extremely dangerous if had happened while driving. May happen to the other headrest while a passenger is in that seat.

On 12/09/2024, I got into the vehicle, sat in the driver seat, turned the ignition on, and then immediately, the driver seat adaptive headrest popped open hitting the back of my head forcefully. I was sitting in my 2015 jeep grand cherokee, parked and not moving. While sitting here waiting on an appointment, I was stretching and my elbow tapped the front of the head rest, the head rest popped forward. I had the same issue happen with the passenger head rest a little over a year ago when it popped without anyone sitting in the seat.

The car was turned off, parked in my drive way. My sister and I were talking (I was outside of the car- she was sitting in the passenger seat) with the car door open.

While the jeep was stationary, in park and with no other stimulus (no contact on the car or the headrest itself), the passenger side headrest snapped forward. I performed a visual inspection and saw that the device had not activated, instead the plastic strut that held the metal retaining beam had broken, allowing the headrest to snap forward without being activated.

One morning as I got into my jeep to drive to work, I noticed the passenger side headrest had popped open, seemingly overnight. I did not witness this happening - I just noticed the end result. I have tried to "close" it but I am unable to do so.

Yesterday (11/24/2019) when my adult daughter entered my 2015 jeep grand cherokee limited, just after closing the door and fastening her seat belt, the headrest burst and hit her in the back of her head/neck. She had complained of discomfort after the incident, so we will be keeping an eye on her to confirm she didn't suffer a concussion.

Passenger headrest completely came apart. The back is not attached to the front and you see all of the inner components. No incident or shock to the vehicle to cause this.
