The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space with the foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel and crashed into a building. During the crash the air bag deployed and the driver sustained injuries to the head back and neck which required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 66,000.

TWO RECENT EVENTS, WHEN BRAKING IN SLOW TRAFFIC THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. EVEN WITH STRONGER AND FORCEFUL BRAKE PRESSURE THE JEEP WAS STILL MOVING AND WANTING TO KEEP GOING WITH ENGINE REVVING. HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN ENGINE QUIT REVVING AND THINGS RETURNED TO NORMAL. I HAVE THIS JEEP 10 YEARS AND AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH IT. NEVER ANY WRECKS. NO MEDICAL PROBLEMS. THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH ANY PEDALS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY SERVICED THE THROTTLE-BODY AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT. THIS APPARENTLY WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AS THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN BRAKING OCCURRED A SECOND TIME. IN GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM A BLOG MENTIONED THIS COULD BE THE JEEP BRAKE-BOOSTER WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED AND WAS REPLACED ON MY JEEP 2 YEARS AGO. GOOGLE BRINGS UP THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AS A COMMON SEARCH BUT NO CLEAR ANSWERS. I KNOW ABOUT THE TOYOTA ACCELERATION PROBLEM IN THE 1990'S, THAT THEY NEVER FOUND OR ADMITTED ANYTHING MECHANICAL AND ASSUMED IT WAS GRANNY USING TWO FEET. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 JEEP. WILL TAKE TO DEALERSHIP BUT THEY ALREADY SAID THEY AREN'T AWARE OF THIS BEING A JEEP DEFECT. I REGISTERED THIS COMPLAINT WITH JEEP CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY SAID IF THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM TO CALL THEM BACK AND THEY WILL WORK WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE THIS. THEY WORRISOME THING IS THEY WILL DO SOMETHING FOR $1000 AND THEN I HAVE THIS BRAKE/ACCELERATION OCCUR A 3RD TIME AND IT CAUSES A CRASH!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS RAISED UP IN ONLY SMALL INTERVALS. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE IF A QUICK EXIT WAS REQUIRED. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, BRAKING WAS REQUIRED AND THE VEHICLE ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE FAILURE NEARLY CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. NEW CARLISLE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM - TOBEY AUTO GROUP (580 N MAIN ST, NEW CARLISLE, OH 45344) REQUIRED THE CONTACT TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WITH NO GUARANTEE OF BEING DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT DID NOT LEAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.

WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH OR 3000 RPMS. I LET OFF THE GAS THINKING THE JEEP WOULD SLOW, BUT IT DIDN'T SLOW DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO DECELERATE BY BRAKING (OBVIOUSLY). HOWEVER, I WAS STILL UNABLE TO GO FASTER THAN APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH OR 3000 RPMS. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP TWICE BEFORE BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I WAS TOLD THE OIL PUMP WAS STUCK ON LOW (?) THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR THE PAST FOUR MONTHS. THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE DESPITE REGULAR SERVICE MAINTENANCE VISITS.

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IN THE LAST FEW DAYS, THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED TO RESPOND (EXTREME FORCE IS NEEDED TO PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL), WHICH DELAYS BRAKING TIME/DISTANCE SIGNIFICANTLY. THIS IS HAPPENING SPECIFICALLY WHEN TRYING TO DISENGAGE FROM CRUISE CONTROL. THIS ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. THE CAR HAD A BREAK BOOSTER RECALL IN 2017 AND THIS REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AT THAT TIME.

PLAN ON TAKING TO A DIFFERENT DEALER TO HAVE RECHECKED. THIS "DEFECT HAPPENS WHETHER MOVING OR NOT.I BECAME AWARE OF THIS WHILE ON HWY 45 GOING FROM MILWAUKEE TO HARTFORD, WIS BUT SHOWED IT TO THE RUSS DARROW DEALER UPON MY RETURN WHILE STATIONARY IN HIS SHOP.

I STARTED TO PANIC BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO CONTROL MY JEEP. LUCKILY, I WAS ON THE OUTSIDE LANE AND JUST COASTED TO A STOP. THEN, I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHILE I CALLED MY WIFE TO LET HER KNOW SHE WOULD NEED TO COME GET ME. THEN, I WENT TO SEE IF MY JEEP WOULD DRIVE ONE MORE TIME AND IT DROVE OFF JUST FINE. THEN, WHEN I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE I CALLED THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TO ASK THEM TO FIX MY JEEP DUE TOT HE RECALL AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE WAITING ON PARTS AND WOULD LET ME KNOW WHEN THEY COME IN. HOWEVER, NOW MY AIR BAG LIGHTS ARE ON AS WELL AS MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON. I ALSO INTERMITTENTLY WHEN I PUSH ON MY BRAKES IT WILL FEEL AS IF I HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. I TRIED TO START THE CAR ON BUT THE CAR WONT START. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALER AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE INCLUDING THE DEALER CALLED ME AFTER COUPLE HOURS AND TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS NOT GOOD AND I NEED TO REPLACE IT. THREE MONTHS AGO I HAD MY CAR IN THE SAME DEALER FOR THE P54 RECALL WERE MY CAR WAS INSPECTED AND INSTALLED EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY WERE THE MILEAGE WERE 54,224. WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPEN THE MILEAGE WERE 57,626 . MY CAR NEVER LOST POWER BEFORE, I THINK THIS HAPPEN AFTER PERFORMED THE P54 RECALL INTO MY CAR. THE DEALER IS ASKING FOR $ 823 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. I THANK GOD CAUSE I WAS LUCKY TO ENTER THE PARKING LOT AREA CAUSE OTHERWISE MY CAR WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD AND LEAD TO RISK OF CRASH. *TR

I HAD AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION OCCUR ON NOVEMBER 15, 2014 WITH OUR 2011 GRAND CHEROKEE. AROUND 7 P.M., I WAS MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE 95 SOUTH FROM 332, THE NEWTOWN, PA EXIT. I DID A HARD ACCELERATION TO AVOID TRAFFIC BRINGING UP THE REAR. THE ENGINE THEN ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY ... SO FAST THAT THE TACHOMETER WAS PINNED TO THE RIGHT SIDE ... INTO THE RED ZONE NEAR 7K. A LATER CHECK OF THE VEHICLE MAXIMUM SPEED ON THE GARMIN GPS REVEALED IT PEAKED AT 97 M.P.H. WITH MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINE WAS PINNED TO MAXIMUM REVS. I HONESTLY THOUGHT IT WOULD DISINTEGRATE. IN THE SPAN OF A FEW SECONDS, I KNEW NOT TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AS I WOULD HAVE LOST STEERING. I HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, TO AT LEAST STOP THE SPEEDING. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV OUT OF CONTROL. I BELIEVE I WAS KICKING THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE ENGINE EVENTUALLY RELEASED ITS GRIP ON SPEED AND RETURNED TO NEAR-IDLE, UPON WHICH I RE-ENGAGED TO DRIVE. IF A CAR WERE ANYWHERE AHEAD OR NEAR ME, A DEVASTATING WRECK WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE REEDMAN-TOLL SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN LANGHORNE, PA. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING THAT WOULD CONFIRM THE INCIDENT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE. AN AGENT NAMED [XXX] TOOK MY REPORT AND SAID HE HAD NO SIMILAR REPORTS. I FIND IT DISTRESSING THAT NOTHING IN THE JEEP 'BLACK BOX' RECORDING SYSTEM WOULD HAVE A RECORD OF THIS POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC INCIDENT. THE REEDMAN SERVICE ADVISOR SPECULATED THAT I MAY HAVE 'RESET' THE SOFTWARE IF AND WHEN I WAS KICKING THE ACCELERATOR WHILE THE EVENT WAS UNDER WAY. AFTER UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO RE ENGAGE SPEED CONTROL, I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. I DEPRESSED THE DASH BOARD STABILITY CONTROL BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES AND THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED & THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT WAS OFF. WE RESUMED OUR TRIP USING SPEED CONTROL WITH FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, BUT ONLY WITH SPEED CONTROL ENGAGED. ON A RECENT TRIP AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES @ 65 - 70 MPH WITH SPEED CONTROL ENGAGED THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES AND SAME CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN. I THEN CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AT THE SAME SPEED WITHOUT SPEED CONTROL AND FURTHER INCIDENT. SINCE THEN A TECHNICIAN HAS ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITHOUT RESULTS. UPON SLOWING DOWN AT NORMAL DECELERATION RATES, THE BRAKES LOST POWER ALLOWING CAR TO ROLL THROUGH A STOP SIGN. THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT AND DOES NOT EXHIBIT ANY OBSERVABLE PATTERN (OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, ETC). THE DEALER FIRST SAID IT WAS THE ROTORS GLAZING, BUT THE ISSUE CONTINUED AFTER THE DEALERSHIP TURNED THEM AND THE FREQUENCY HAS NOT REDUCED. THE SECOND VISIT FOUND NO ISSUES AFTER IT WAS AGAIN REPORTED. A THIRD PARTY RESOURCE INDICATED THAT IT COULD BE THE MASTER CYLINDER GASKET/SEAL. SINCE THIS ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR REGULARLY AND HAS NOT BEEN "OBSERVED" BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART. SINCE IT DOES HAPPEN AT A RATE OF ONLY 1-2 TIMES PER WEEK, IT IS TOUGH TO COMPENSATE FOR AND/OR PREDICT WHEN IT WILL OCCUR CAUSING LACK OF CONFIDENCE. OTHER NOTES ARE THAT ABS DOES NOT KICK IN DURING THE LOSS OF POWER AND THE PEDAL IS PUSHED IN AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITH THE CAR STILL MOVING FORWARD BETWEEN 5-10MPH ONLY DECELERATING SLIGHTLY. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE THROTTLE BODY BUT TO NO AVAIL AS THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,300.

DEALER SAID HE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND HAD NO CLUE WHAT TO DO SO HE HAD TO WAIT FOR CHRYSLER TO CALL HIM TO TELL HIM WHAT TO DO, SHOULD HAVE RED FLAGGED THIS ANSWER. # DAYS LATER DEALER CALLED SAID CAR WAS FIXED, IT WAS A BAD SENSOR ON THE GAS PEDAL, REPLACED, AND AGREED ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. A WEEK LATER, I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN WAITING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON THE WAY HOME FROM DROPPING OFF MY KIDS AT SCHOOL, THE CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD SUDDENLY, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD SKIDDING OUT ONTO THE SIDEWALK ALMOST HITTING A POLE. DUE TO MY QUICK THINKING I AVOIDED DEATH TWICE IN THIS CAR. MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT THIS AS A FIRST CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER, THE THOUGHT OF A NEW DRIVER DRIVING THIS DEATHTRAP IS SCARY. I WILL NEVER PUT MYSELF OR ANYONE IN MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR, IT IS SERIOUSLY A DEATH THREAT TO DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. CHRYSLER BETTER MAN UP BEFORE MORE PEOPLE LOSE THEIR LIVES. *TR
