Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 1885)

Electrical System3 issues
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
CrashFiled: Dec 2021

Your vehicle unexpectedly shifted into gear and moved forward even though the brakes were engaged, causing it to crash into a fence. This suggests a serious problem with the transmission or brake system that prevented the vehicle from staying stationary when parked.

NHTSA #: 11444370
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Oct 2019

Your Jeep may suddenly shut off while driving at any speed, and then won't restart — the key is sometimes not recognized by the system. This has happened multiple times, and when it occurs, your power steering locks up, making the vehicle difficult to control. The problem seems to be an electrical issue with the ignition or key recognition system that will likely require professional diagnostic testing and possibly replacement of the ignition switch or electrical components.

NHTSA #: 11266891
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2019

Your vehicle won't start after you insert the key into the ignition, and the dashboard displays a message saying the key isn't recognized. This electrical issue prevents the engine from starting, even though the key is in the ignition properly. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and replacing the ignition switch or having the key reprogrammed to communicate with your vehicle's security system.

NHTSA #: 11246440
Seats2 issues
criticalSEATS
FireFiled: Oct 2021

Your driver's seat became extremely hot and burned your legs, causing second-degree burns even though you were wearing jeans. There were no warning lights to alert you to the problem. The dealer confirmed there were no recalls for this issue, and the vehicle was never diagnosed or repaired. A fix would likely involve inspecting the seat heating element or electrical system for a malfunction.

NHTSA #: 11436586
highSEATS
Filed: Oct 2022

Your driver's front seat has become loose at the base and wobbles when you sit on it, making it uncomfortable and potentially unsafe to drive. The seat is no longer securely fastened to the vehicle floor. Repairing this will likely involve tightening or replacing the seat mounting bolts and brackets.

Engine2 issues
criticalENGINE
Filed: Jul 2019

Your Jeep cuts off suddenly while driving, including on the highway, which has happened multiple times to you and your family. You've already replaced the crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, idle air control valve, and PCM, but the problem persists. Multiple repair shops have been unable to diagnose the cause. This repair will likely require comprehensive electrical and fuel system diagnostics to trace the stalling issue to its root cause.

NHTSA #: 11240832
highENGINE
Filed: May 2020

Your engine randomly shuts down completely without warning, as if the ignition was turned off. Sometimes it will restart after 10-15 minutes, only to shut down again. You've already replaced the oxygen sensor, crank sensor, idle control sensor, and engine computer without resolving the issue. A mechanic will need to diagnose the electrical system and remaining engine control components to find what's causing the repeated shutdowns.

NHTSA #: 11324077
Air Bags1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS
CrashFiled: Dec 2025

You were hit in the front of your vehicle while making a left turn, and your airbags failed to deploy even though you struck the steering wheel. This is a serious safety concern since airbags are designed to protect you during frontal collisions. The airbag system will need to be inspected by a technician to determine why it didn't activate.

NHTSA #: 11703445
Fuel System, Gasoline,structure1 issue
highFUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,STRUCTURE
Filed: Sep 2025

Your Jeep was subject to a safety recall (Campaign 13V252000) related to the fuel system structure. When you contacted your local Jeep dealer about the recall repair, they refused to perform the work because of your vehicle's age. You haven't experienced any actual fuel system failure yet, but the recall exists to address a potential structural issue that could develop.

NHTSA #: 11686127
Tires1 issue
highTIRES
Filed: Oct 2022

All four of your Cooper Discoverer A/T tires developed cracks along the sidewalls at around 170,000 miles. Your tire dealer noticed the damage but didn't replace them, and instead suggested you report the issue to the tire manufacturer and NHTSA. Sidewall cracks can lead to tire failure while driving, so the tires should be inspected by a professional and replaced if the damage is significant.

NHTSA #: 11489313
Electrical System,engine1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Filed: Jul 2022

After your Jeep was repaired for a no-start condition in early 2019, the instrument panel gauges stopped working and all warning lights came on a few days after you got it back. The problem occurs shortly after starting the engine and persists. This may require diagnostic testing to identify whether it's an electrical wiring issue, a faulty instrument cluster, or a problem with the engine control module.

NHTSA #: 11474598
Electrical System,service Brakes1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Jun 2021

The plastic housing around your driver's side rear lights has melted, and as a result your brake lights and tail lights don't work on that side. This is a safety concern since other drivers won't be able to see when you're braking. You'll need to replace the light housing assembly and likely the bulbs.

NHTSA #: 11420654
Steering,vehicle Speed Control,unknown Or Other1 issue
highSTEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: May 2020

Your car shakes severely while driving, especially at highway speeds, making it difficult to control safely. This intense vibration has caused you concern about driving and has affected your family's comfort. The problem likely involves a steering or suspension component that needs inspection and repair to eliminate the shaking.

NHTSA #: 11326587
Steering1 issue
highSTEERING
Filed: Feb 2020

Your steering wheel is difficult to keep straight, and your car tends to drift out of its lane. You've already replaced the tires, had them balanced, and gotten a wheel alignment done, but the problem persists. The issue may involve worn steering components like tie rods, a bent steering rack, or worn suspension bushings that need inspection and replacement.

NHTSA #: 11308678
Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
Filed: Oct 2019

Your Jeep won't start. The electrical system, engine, or another related component may be preventing normal startup. You should have a mechanic diagnose the starting issue to identify whether it's a battery, starter motor, or ignition problem.

NHTSA #: 11270108
Power Train1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Jul 2019

Your Jeep's anti-theft system is preventing the engine from running properly. When you start the vehicle, it runs for only 2-3 seconds before stalling out. This is a known issue affecting many 2000 Grand Cherokees. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing or replacing the anti-theft immobilizer system or its wiring.

NHTSA #: 11229957
Electrical System, electronic Stability Control (esc)1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Filed: Jun 2019

Your dashboard lights and alarms are blinking on and off at the same time, which suggests a wiring short circuit in the electrical system. Your fuel gauge is also malfunctioning—it spins all the way to empty and gets stuck under the gauge needle at 0, so it won't show your actual fuel level whether you're driving or parked. This problem likely involves repairing or replacing the faulty wiring harness and fuel gauge sender unit.

NHTSA #: 11222194
Unknown Or Other1 issue
highUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: May 2019

Your vehicle stalls unexpectedly at random times while driving. This problem has persisted even after the dealer and other mechanics have attempted repairs. The stalling issue may leave you stranded and requires diagnosis to identify the root cause, which could involve fuel delivery, ignition, or engine control systems.

NHTSA #: 11208146
Electrical System,structure1 issue
mediumELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
Filed: Oct 2020

Your heater stopped blowing hot air on the passenger side, and about 6 months later the driver's side vents also stopped working. The dashboard warning lights didn't come on. You believe the plastic vent components are poorly designed and may need to be replaced or repaired to restore heat to both sides of the cabin.
