1 DRIVER GETTING INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT, PREPARING TO LEAVE BY BUCKLING THE SEATBELT AND PUSHING IT FIRMLY INTO THE BUCKLE LOCK 2 THE CAUSE IS UNKNOWN AFTER MANY FAILURES, AS THE BELT SIMPLY BEGINS TO WIND BACK TO THE B-PILLAR AS IF THE DRIVER HAD JUST EXITED THE VEHICLE. NO NOISE IS MADE, NO FORCE NEEDS TO BE EXERTED ON THE BELT TO RECREATE THE FAILURE, IN WHICH RECREATION IS IMPOSSIBLE. OFTEN FAILURE MAY OCCUR AFTER AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF DRIVING TIME. 3 UNKNOWN TO DATE. *TR
DT: IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT AND THE SEAT BELTS ARE SUPPOSE TO LOCK TO KEEP CONSUMER FROM GOING FORWARD ,AND THEY DID NOT LOCK. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY IT WAS HARD TO UNLOCK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT DRIVER'S SEAT VIBRATED FROM UNDER THE SEAT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE SEAT BROKE OFF THE ASSEMBLY. *AK THE ANCHOR PULLED LOOSE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *SC *JB
WE RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THE 1998 JEEP CHEROKEE IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES WITH THE GEN3 OR GEN4 SEAT BELTS THAT HAS A RELEASE BUTTON THAT PROTRUDES FROM THE REST OF THE BUCKLE AND CAN COME UNDONE WHEN BUMPED BY AN ELBOW, HAND, OR CHILD'S CAR SEAT. IT HAS BEEN BLAMED FOR 17 DEATHS AND 27 SERIOUS INJURIES. WHAT RIGHTS DO THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE AS FAR AS HAVING THE FAULTY SEATBELTS REPLACED? WE DIDN'T BUY FROM A JEEP DEALERSHIP, BUT IF THEIR PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE, I THINK THEY SHOULD FIX IT REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. I DON'T WANT MY SON TO BE A STATISTIC. *AK
THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT FASTEN PROPERLY. WHEN EVER THE DRIVER MOVED THE BELT POPPED LOOSE. PLEASE DESCRIBE FURTHER. *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVE IN AN ACCIDENT. THE JEEP WAS HIT ON THE FRONT QUARTER PANEL. THE SHOULDER HARNESS OF THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE PASSENGER IN WHICH SHE WAS THROWN FORWARD HITTING HER HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD.*AK *JB *NM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK IN THE CRASH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID LOCK AND THE DRIVER HAD WITNESS MARKS AND BRUISING FROM THE BELT WEBBING. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER WAS THROWN FORWARD AS A RESULT OF THE IMPACT RESULTING IN AN INJURY TO THE BACK OF HER HEAD WHEN HITTING WINDSHIELD. THE PASSENGER HAS NECK SPASMS AND SUSTAINED BRUISING ON EXTREMITIES. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY IN THE EVENT. THE SEAT WAS IN THE FULL REARWARD POSITION AND WAS SEATED NORMALLY. THE PASSENGER CLAIMS THAT THEY WERE NOT OUT OF POSITION. CW CONSUMER CALLED BACK STATING THAT THEY INSPECTED THE PASSENGER'S FRONT SEAT BELT AS PER A REQUEST BY ODI. THE WEBBING WAS TUGGED NUMEROUS TIME BUT WOULD SELDOM LOCK UP AS A RESULT OF THE QUICK JERKS ON THE WEBBING. ALSO STATED THAT THE PASSENGER HIT HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING IT TO BREAK. CW
THE SEAT BELTS UNLATCHED WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT THE SLIGHTEST BUMP. *JB *TT *JB
CONSUMER STATED THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALL #98V048000 SEAT BELT. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED. TS
WHILE DRIVING MY 10 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER TO SCHOOL I HANDED HER A WATER BOTTLE. THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE HIT THE RELEASE BUTTON OF HER SEAT BELT AND RELEASED THE BELT. I THOUGHT SHE MUST HAVE DONE IT AND A LECTURE FOLLOWED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING THE BELT FASTENED. I KNOW NOW HOWEVER THAT THE BOTTLE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE RELEASE WHEN IT HIT THE RELEASE BUTTON. THE BELT WAS REFASTENED AND NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT IT UPSET ME THAT THE BELT RELEASE WAS SO EASY TO ACCIDENTALLY RELEASE. DT
JEEP CHEROKEE EQUIPED WITH GEN-3 SEAT BELTS. CHILD SAFETY SEAT IS USED IN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD A COLLISION IN THE VEHICLE YET BUT WOULD LIKE THE BELTS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE. DAIMLER CHYSLER ONLY OFFERED ME A PRERECORDED MESSAGE SAYING THAT THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER TURNED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE, HOWEVER VEHICLE SKIDDED, HIT A GUARDRAIL, AND THEN ROLLED OVER, THE ORANGE BUTTON TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT WAS PULLED UP 1/4-1/2 INCHES, SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD, CAUSING DRIVER TO BE TOSSED AROUND DURING VEHICLE ROLLOVER, CLAIM 47-4282-720. *SLC
DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE SEATBELTS WILL NOT RETRACT, AND WILL NOT HOLD.*AK
SEAT BELTS IN VEHICLE WILL COME UNDONE WITH A SMALL BUMP. CONSUMER HIT SEAT BELT WITH HER ELBOW, AND THE SEAT BELT CAME UNDONE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *JB

THE FRONT PASSANGER SEAT BELT LOCKS IN THE FULLY RETRACTED POSITION (UNFASTENED) WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW 20F. TROY SHAFFER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY CAR WAS A TEXAS CAR AND REFUSED TO REPLACE IT UNDER EXTENDED WARRENTEE WITHOUT SEEING THE DEFECT. HE RECOMMENDED TO MY HUSBAND THAT HE TAKE THE CAR UP NORTH TO HAVE IT FIXED.*AK

WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD (I.E. BELOW 25 DEGREES) THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LOCKS IN THE HOME POSSITION. AFTER MULTIPLE TRYS ON MULTIPLE DAYS THE SEAT BELT STAYS IN THE HOME POSITION. WHEN THE WEATHER WARMS UP OR THE HEATER IN THE CAR HAS BEEN ON FOR A LONG TIME, THEN THE SEAT BELT WILL RELEASE SO THAT IT MAY BE USED. *AK

SEAT BELTS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, LEFT/ RIGHT AND REAR PASSENGERS' SEAT BELTS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. CCS WILL TILT OVER BECAUSE THE BELTS WON'T RETRACT CORRECTLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE SEAT DOESN'T STAY IN PLACE. *AK
NO SPECIFIC PROBLEM.... JUST A GENERAL COMPLAINT THAT HAS BEEN ECHOED BY EVERY MOM I'VE TALKED TO. 1.IN MY JEEP, WE HAD TO GET A DIFFERENT SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE CAR SEAT WORK. 2.HERE'S A CRY FOR SIMPLER MORE UNIVERSAL DESIGNS. WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT CARS AND IT TOOK US 6 HOURS TO REFIT BOTH CARS TO MAKE THE CAR SEAT WORK THE FIRST TIME. THEN, WHEN GRANDMA SHOWED UP IN HER CAR, WE HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE AN HOUR TO INSTALL A CAR SEAT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THEN YOU ONLY HOPE YOU'VE GOT IT RIGHT. OF COURSE, YOU ARE DOING THIS WHILE HOLDING A CHILD AND A DIAPER BAG ETC. 3.NEED MORE PLACES THAT WE CAN TAKE OUR CARS TO SEE IF THE SEAT IS IN RIGHT. CAN WE JUST DRIVE OVER TO THE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICE AT ANY TIME TO DO THIS? WHY NOT? 4. THESE THINGS SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD!... P>S> BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE COLLEGE DEGREES AND HE'S IS IN ENGINEERING. *AK
WHEN TAKING A RIGHT TURN THE SEATBELT HOLDING OUR 6 MONTH OLD INFANT IN HIS REAR FACING CAR SEAT UNHOOKED AND THE ENTIRE CAR SEAT (INCLUDING BASE)TIPPED OVER. HE IS IN THE CENTER OF THE BACK SEAT. HE WAS NOT INJURED, ONLY STARTLED.
AFTER BRAKING, THE SEAT BELTS LOCKED UP.
THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH SEAT BELTS. THE SEAT BELTS DON'T STAY ATTACHED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
THERE IS A TRAVEL STOP BUTTON ON THE SEATBELT THAT KEEPS THE BELT FROM RETURNING TOO FAR INTO THE RETRACTION/LOCKING SYSTEM. THIS BUTTON KEEPS THE BELT FROM BEING ABLE TO BE ADJUSTED TO FIT A SMALL CHILD BY ABOUT 4 INCHES. BOTH MY CHILDREN ARE APPROXIMATELY 40 LBS.. THE SEATBELT AT ITS SMALLEST ALLOWABLE ADJUSTMENT IS TOO BIG. THIS PROBLEM PREVENTS THE SEATBELT FROM BEING WORM AS PER GUIDLINES AND IS IN MY OPINION A SEVERE SAFETY SHORTCOMING. ANYONE HAVING CHILDREN OUT OF CHILD SEAT AGE HAS CHILDREN SUSCEPTIBLE TO INJURIES INVOLVING EVEN QUICK STOPS.
