THE FUEL GAUGE WILL RANDOMLY GO FROM THE CORRECT READING TO EMPTY ALONG WITH THE CHIME TELLING THE DRIVER TO STOP FOR REFUELING SOON. I NOW SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH THIS. WILL CALL THE DEALER ON MONDAY. CLH. *AK
THE GAS GAUGE ON MY JEEP DOES NOT ACCURATELY REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF GAS LEFT. THE TANK MAY REPORT THERE IS GAS REMAINING WHEN EMPTY OR THAT THERE IS NO GAS WHEN FULL. THE GAUGE MAY START AND STOP WORKING SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN A SINGLE TRIP, OR NEVER ACCURATELY REPORT THE GAS LEVEL AT ALL. *LA

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH A 3 MONTH/3000 MILE WARRANTY AND SINCE THE PURCHASE I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS GAUGE. FOR SOME REASON THE GAUGE WILL INSTANTLY DROP TO EMPTY AND THEN BACK TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. I'VE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT 3 TIMES AND THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE GAUGE IS READING NORMALLY. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY I AM STUCK WITH THE BURDEN OF A FAULTY FUEL GAUGE AND AM WONDERING HOW TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM SEEING THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I ALSO AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD OF BEEN RESOLVED WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I,M SURE AS SOON AS I OPEN MY WALLET AT THE DEALERSHIP THE PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED. I ALSO KNOW THAT PREVIOUS YEAR JEEPS HAD THIS PROBLEM. *AK
THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT IN THIS 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LOREDO IS EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE AND UN-SAFE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE IN THE PRIOR MODEL YEAR FOR THIS VEHICLE. IF ONE WAS TO CONTACT JEEP DEALERSHIPS FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE LEVEL SENDING UNIT , YOU IN TURN WILL RECEIVE THE IDENTICAL PARTS THAT WERE INSTALLED IN THE RECALLED 1997 MODEL YEAR. THIS WOULD MEAN THE 1997 CARD BODY, CARD BODY WIPER, FLOAT ARM RETAINER AND THE FLOAT ARM ASSEMBLY PART NUMBERS WERE REINSTALLED IN THE 1998 FUEL MODUALS. REVISION LEVELS ON THESE ENGINEERED PARTS ARE DOUGHTFULL. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE IS YOU CAN FILL THE TANK IN FULL POSITION (23 GAL -TWO CLICKS) START IT UP AND IT MAY READ EMPTY , IT MAY READ HALF FULL OR IT MAY READ FULL AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. OCCASIONALY WHEN YOU SHUT THE REAR HATCH DOOR ON THIS VEHICLE THE VIBRATION MAY CASE THE FUEL LEVEL UNIT TO REACT INSIDE THE TANK/MODULE IN A ABNORMAL MANNER. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN UNSAFE AND HAS CAUSED THIS OWNER TO RUN OUT OF GAS ONCE ON HIGHWAY I95 IN NY AND ONCE ON A BACK ROAD. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SUPPORT HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND DOCUMENTED THE ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY. I DO NOT LIKE TO BE STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY TWIN 2 YEAR OLDS WHEN THE TANK BECOMES SUDDENLY EMPTY. THE 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE SAME PART WAS INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE AND WHY IT ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE SAME RECALL?.*AK

FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT READ CORRECT LEVEL OF FUEL ACTUALLY PRESENT IN VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER, REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. *AK
FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AT 1/4 OF A TANK. NLM
FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT FAILED CAUSING VEHICLE STALLING. *MJS
IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS AT DIFFERENT TIMES THE DASHBOARD MOUNTED GAS GAUGE HAS GIVEN IRRATIC READINGS AND TWO DAYS AGO THE GAUGE SHOWED 1/4 TANK THE "DTE" GAUGE SHOWED APPROX 125MILES TILL EMPTY, AND IT RAN OUT OF GAS.
JEEP RAN OUT OF GAS WHILE GAUGE ON DASHBOARD SHOWED TANK AT 1/4 FULL (NO ONE HURT, PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD SAFELY). APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PART FOR THE 1997 CHEROKEE MODELS, BUT THE RECALL WAS NEVER EXTENDED FOR 1998 MODELS. HAD PART FIXED AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP (CAR STILL UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY), BUT DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY NEVER SAW THIS PROBLEM WITH 1998 MODELS.*AK

GAS GUAGE READ MORE FUEL THAN THE ACTUAL AMOUNT FOUND IN THE FUEL TANK. THIS CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO RUN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE CONSUMER THOUGHT THAT TANK WAS 3/4 FULL WHEN IT WAS ACTUALLY EMPTY. *AK
FUEL EXHAUSTION WITH FUEL GAUGE INDICATING 1/8 FULL, FUEL COMPUTER DISPLAYED 75 MILES TO EMPTY
BEFORE I REALIZED THAT THE GUAGE WASN'T WORKING, I RAN OUT OF GASOLINE TWICE. THE SECOND TIME WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DURING THE RUSH HOUR COMMUTE. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS AS I WAS STUCK AT A DEAD STOP IN THE FAST LANE WITH NO WHERE TO GO. I WAS HIT DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT. I DID NOT WEAR OUT THE GAS TANK. ALTHOUGH THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD HEARD LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS, CHRYSLER WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR IN FULL.
FUEL GAGE SHOWS 1/4 FULL WHEN GAS TANK IS EMPTY
GAS GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO GAS AT ALL IN THE TANK WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO STALL AND HAD A CRASH. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CAR RAN OUT OF GAS WITH GAUGE READING JUST BELOW 1/4 TANK. WE CANNOT RELY ON GAUGE FOR INFORMATION. WHEN IT FIRST OCCURED, DEALER CLAIMED THERE WAS GOING TO BE A RECALL ON GAUGE. OVER A YEAR LATER WE STILL HAVE A MALFUNCTIONING GAUGE. *AK

*DSY FUEL SENDING UNIT DEFECTIVE CAUSING CONSUMER TO RUN OUT OF FUEL WITH NO INDICATION OF LOW/NO GAS. MJS *DSY AFTER REPLACEMENT OF FUEL SENDING UNIT, GAS TANK STARTED TO LEAK FROM TANK DUE TO DEFECTIVE O-RING. MJS

GAS GAUGE INDICATED THAT GAS TANK WA S3/8TH FULL. THE VEHICLE CUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THERE IS A LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT AND BUZZER, BUT NEITHER CAME ON.
