2018 Jeep Compass Other Problems

Sunroof exploded outwards while driving, took no damage from debris or flying objects.

Navigation screen has a bubble internally. It turn on automatically connects with phones that are synchronized and starts calling. In my case it has called sos, random numbers it will not allow the phone to hang up while driving and it will not turn off just by pushing the button when it’s making a call.

My car has "overheated" over 20 times since I purchased this vehicle in November 2022. The "High Coolant Temperature" warning comes on, the temperature gage goes all the way up, the check engine light comes on along with the "lighting bolt" red symbol. This causes my vehicle to shut down.

Standing still or moving the coolant Temp gauge goes up to H and turns Red, when this happens the vehicle instantly decelerates to approximately 5 MPH. While on brake the car moves then and than immediately stops and I am unable to step on gas, when this happens I have to shut down and restart. This is extremely hazardous and can cause a collision when it slows down or shuts off.

As I accelerate the car while driving or from a start motion the car occasionally kicks back (jerks), causing me to immediately slow down to avoid the car from not stopping.

This vehicle just shuts off out of nowhere while driving. It seems like electronics turn off. You can no longer accelerate no matter how fast you were going which can easily cause an accident especially because it happens without warning.

I have almost crashed twice because my screen in my car flashes all these white lines ALL the time and even when I turn it off it will still do it and driving in the dark it blinds you randomly on a turn on the freeway and it’s dangerous I have found many people with he same car having the same problems and they try to make you pay an arm and a leg because it’s a wiring problem and you have to pay to replace the thing that holds the screen and whole front dash screen part because once it’s out on it’s stuck there it’s clearly a malfunction with the manufacturer and it is the screen that was originally built into the car.

The vehicle’s touchscreen display has begun delaminating, causing “phantom touches” where the screen starts behaving erratically, as if someone were frantically touching multiple controls. This includes launching and closing apps, changing music, activating the phone and calling people, disabling/changing navigation, and more.

My vehicle frequently has a check engine light pop on. When it does the car slows to 10-15mph instantly and I am unable to use the gas at all. I have to pull over and turn the car off for a few minutes and turn it back on in order to be able to go.

The touchscreen laminate on the display is rapidly detaching from the screen. This causes a safety issue in distractions in the screen causing accidental calls, changed radio stations, and generally making any adjustments to the vehicle because of a faulty screen.

This vehicle has been nothing but problems since I've made the purchase. The vehicle randomly jerks. I maintain the vehicle regularly it constantly shows that an oil change is needed.

Have had two issues and dealers can not find anything wrong. A few months after I had it, I had to have it towed to shop , to be told there is nothing wrong (no codes), now frequently it looses power like it wants to stall out. I have to pull over shut the car off and restart it.

My car has completely shut off at an intersection/stop light twice. Shuts off while in drive tells me I need to start again. Emergency brake engages.

The vehicle just stopped functioning in the middle of me driving on a road with no shoulder, it spontaneously decelerated the gas did nothing, and ultimately rolled to a stop. I shut it off and it never restarted, the ignition button just made a terrible noise. I was left stranded in a bad service area no longer with the benefit of my car’s wifi because it wouldnt turn on.

I just purchased a 2018 Jeep Compass Limited and the car shuts off unexpectedly while driving. This is a serious safety hazard as the car gives no warning. Someone is going to get killed!

I purchased this vehicle in June 2021. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have had it in the dealership (Lia Jeep, Dodge, Ram in Colonie, NY) five times for the same problem. The vehicle hasn’t been repaired to date.

On 3/19/2022 and on 3/21/2022 while at a stop sign went to make a right hand turn and my car stalled and emergency brake engaged by itself. Had to wait a couple minutes and finally car restarted. Both times the car stalled in roadway, not enough power to pull off road.

On September 3, 2021, my vehicle failed in the middle of the street without warning. The dash lights were on but the vehicle would not move. The engine light was also on.

Ever since I have owned this vehicle from march 2018 when driving (in motion) my emergency brake will come on and shut me down, I have had enough! Yesterday 5/4/2021 I was almost hit by a semi because of this. Jeep has not acknowledged this issue.

My vehicle is stalling and the oil on the vehicle is been consume rapidly I took my car and told the dealer that this is not normal they asked me to please take it every time the engile oil light will come on which it's very often.

Car stalls after stopping and will not restart as if its not getting gas. The oil pressure gauge will not register. The car has also shut off while driving slowly (less than 10mph) and acts the same way.

The first time this happened I was on a city street in seattle making a right hand turn and my jeep stalled out. I was unable to move it, no lights came on with any warning before it happened. On the second try the jeep started and I was able to drive the 2 hours home safely.

Well - this all started back in april of 2019 - when I took my jeep in - it would stall in the middle of a turn .

The auto start stop feature has functioned improperly and after tapping my brakes at a stoplight and turning onto a ramp to get on the highway, I went to take off and the car died. The parking brake light came on and I have never used it. I restarted my car only for it to stall out and die10 mins later on the highway making it very hard to steer.

I take my vehicle in for regular oil changes, however, on two occasions they service technicians have notified me that my oil is almost completely out. I have been getting my car services at the jeep dealership. For some reason, my car appears to be consuming ridiculous amounts of oil and they don't know why.

New jeep wouldn't start with 1700 miles on it.failure light came on dashboard.while on the road car dashboard said" failure,vehicle will shut off , go to a safe place" it died and at least I made it to a parking lot. Terrifying experience! Had to have it towed to dealer.I have had it one month.

Consumer bought car in august 2018 (memorial weekend). Upon obtaining the car, consumer noticed that car appeared to attempt to stall when break; however, the engine would kick back in and not stall. Hello my truck is having issues stalling, noise like grinding, rattling, or some kind of clunking sounds especially during acceleration. It jerking movement. My car will shift into neutral by itself and sometimes it won't even shift into gear at all when trying to put it into drive.

Car starts just fine, I let it warm up, it idles just fine. It is a 6 speed manual, I can reverse out of my driveway and drive 1 block to the stop sign and the car will stall immediately. This has happened more than 10 times in the past month. I have replaced the spark plugs as of yesterday 1/14/2026 and it ran fine all day through busy city and many purposely made stops along my drive and back home. Today 1/15/2026 I went to go to our gas station in town, and the car stalled again at the same stop sign. This time, it would not restart, it shut itself down, and I had to open the drivers door and close it for it tonregister the carvwas shutnoff, and then attempted to restart. No go. We tried the old fashioned push start and pop the clutch and this failed also. I ended up holding the pedal down for it to even sputter. I then waited a minute and retried starting the engine. It sputtered so much I had to give it more gas to keep it running. I made it back to my house and it died turning into the driveway. It will be parked until a solution can be found.

Check engine lights came on, and then a warning saying stop safely, the engine will shut down soon, now it will not start. Leaving me stranded. This happened twice, but now the car won’t start and will need to be towed. I have asked several repair shops and done research online, and nobody knows how to fix this issue.

When my oil gets low, my car shuts off in the middle of the highway. Also, when I turn my wheels, it's making a very loud clicking noise.

My 2018 Jeep Compass has an oil pump issue it seems. I read about previous scenarios and forums that had issues with this vehicle like mine. I would drive the vehicle and not within 5 minutes it will turn off half way down the road in the middle of an intersection that could have caused the lives of others and my child and myself.

Unknown but the vehicle only has 30,000 miles and the back up camera is mostly blacked out. I feel is is a safety concern Jeep isn't fixing even out of warrenty or acknowledging. After reading numerous forums on this problem, there are quite a few yr models that are affected.

"Coolant Temperature High" warning occur frequently at any situation doesn't matter time or weather. Especially when waiting at a cross section for green light or turning. It shut off the car once on the high way, lucky I was not injured.

I have notice for some time now that I have been getting oil changes done before my scheduled time. For example, I got my oil changed August 25, 2023, at 66403 mileages. According to the return for service sticker next service date is February 25, 2024, at 71403 mileages.

The rear view camera display stops working and only shows a black screen. I am unable to clearly see behind me when backing up. This is especially troublesome at night.

My Uconnect System came with the car. I purchased it in 2019 and by 2020 I noticed a bubble in my screen, 2021 I noticed it getting bigger I took it to the dealer they said nothing needs to be done and in 2022 it got worse and then they told me it’s out of warranty, in 2023 it’s completely delaminated and now I have no use for the entire system and now it is causing issues.

My car keeps jerking. I’m not over the line. My car keeps sounding like engine is revving or down shifting while I’m driving and I’m doing the same speed limit.

The touch screen is de laminating. Jeep wouldn't repair under warranty since car has been 1 year old. The delamination causes a driving risks as it turn on by itself, turns heat and air cond.

Car turned off suddenly after idling at red light. "High coolant temp" warning light and others flashed briefly in dashboard. We could not move or start the engine at all.

While driving on the highway or at a stop sign or signal light the car would stop and not start back and when driving on the highway it would stop just like that and takes a few minutes to restart causing backup traffic behind me.

My husband purchased me this car about three months ago and it has been nothing but hell for me. My car won’t stop swallowing oil. I had an oil change a month ago and I’ve already lost a little over half of the oil, and there’s no obvious oil leaks under the car.

Since the middle of last year (2020), the radio and back up camera have been completely glitchy. It started with the Favorites function not working with Sirius XM, then progressed to the screen freezing, not responding to any screen touches or knobs on the dashboard until eventually rebooting or staying on the back up camera picture until ultimately rebooting.

I was driving and all dash lights lite up an my jeep shut off. Once jeep restarted the battery light, engine light, and start/stop light remained on. We replaced both batteries and a hood plug which seemed to work.

My hill brake activates while I'm in traffic, making u-turns, and driving. I took it to the dealership in january and they couldn't replicate the problem so they couldn't resolve it. They had it from january 25th to february 14th.

My service transmission and check engine light comes on and off every few weeks I took it to my local jeep dealer they told me multiple times there was nothing wrong with my 2018 compass when I know indeed it is I smell coolant all the time they say they don't my engine and trans light comes in and off they have no code I caught it on video they both lights were on and I was asked if I'd like to bring it back in I said yes the day I go in of course the lights are off but now they have a code he says to me oh your transmission just needs to be updates but the codes that I got back stated that it was the torque converter

Oil consumption low 2 quarts at 3500 miles currently doing oil consumption test replacing one quart of oil every 1000 miles. Concern is the dealer said auto shutoff no matter where I'm at if oil level drops to low. Shouldn't have to worry about this with new vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 jeep compass. On several occasions, while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the auto stop/start feature failed to operate. The contact stated that there was a delay between the accelerator pedal being depressed and the vehicle responding.

When idling in park, threw a check engine and service transmission light. When attempting to shift into drive, vehicle roughly slams into gear and is unable to switch gears once driving.

I have a humming noise between 30 - 40 MPH. I took it back to dealer at 700 miles on new jeep and they told me that is normal. That is the muffler system.

The touchscreen lcd on my jeep compass is glitching and no longer usable I am unable to access certain features that includes my radio and also the backup camera no longer works. This is a safety concern because the whole reason I bought this car was for the use of the backup screen and to set up music with Bluetooth.

When driving a warning sign came on saying stop safely your vehicle will shut off soon. When driving another time the vehicle shut off completely while driving and then came back on.

Burning through oil! No light on for oil and not to mileage for oil change. Happened to check oil this morning and there was only a tiny bit on stick like hardly any.

My U-Connect Navigation system on my 2018 Jeep Compass is delaminating and ghosting. Unfortunately my air conditioning was changing from air to heat on a day when the temperature outside was 95 degrees. This is definitely a safety issue.

I have a rear view camera that went out 4 times during the warranty period , there is now 50K on jeep compass 2018 and camera is out completely, I am wondering if others are having this problem and why isn't this on a recall, thanks

uconnect 8.4 inch touchscreen is delaminating. This soon leads to software buttons being activated randomly, as I have read in blogs. This screen controls phone, navigation, electronic power to things like seat movement among many other features.

I purchased the vehicle in November 2021 when it was cold out. The unconnect radio worked fine until I would have the heat running a while and then the screen would either go completely black or black with colored lines going through it. Since it has warmed up I can come out and the screen does not work.

Screen delimitation, this is causing the the screen to act on its own. This is distracting to the driver to constantly try to fix the false inputs. This effects Bluetooth, climate controls, and other systems in the car.

Control arm separating at welding. Other 2018 Jeep Compass Latitudes have this recall so I am unclear why mine is not part of it when I am having the exact same issue.

This has happened three times in the last month; (after doing some online inquiry see other complaints about this same thing happening): after accelerating, when I go to turn my vehicle, my vehicle will automatically shut off and my parking brake turns on. This has happened on major (high traffic) roads each time and presents a huge safety concern.

The engine start stop technology is malfunctioning and causing the engine to turn off at unsafe times, after coming to a complete stop at an intersection when the vehicle begins to move again it makes it to the center of the intersection and the engine turns off and is difficult to start back up. The problem also seems to be linked to a issue with the engine over consuming oil.

Shortly after moving the vehicle while driving at times the engine will completely turn off leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate. I got into my vehicle when a pull out of my parking spot the vehicle shut off. I put the vehicle in neutral with the parking brake on a tried to start it. The vehicle would crank but not start.

Radio has white lines going down and makes it impossible to see the screen. This is a big issue because it controls lighting of the vehicle climate and most important the rear back camera for when backing up. More than 3 months since I took it for warranty and still no answer from jeep

I was driving to get on a highway just as my car unexpectedly stopped driving, I had no control over the car, and my car just stopped. I had trouble starting it up and had to wait a few moments for it to start again, but the car did not feel the same when I started to drive.

The car was in motion and in a middle of the street turn off, when the engine was checked it didn't have no engine oil on it. The car is brand new not even 5000 miles on it. didn't show any warning before hand making it a safety issue for those like me traveling with children and the car stoping out of nowhere.

Vehicle would not start - error message parking break engaged. Push gas pedal and release brake. These operations were performed and the vehicle would still not start.
