2018 Jeep Compass Brakes Problems

While driving with my wife and 3 kids the car automatically braked by itself. Lucky to be able to report this. The NTHSA doesn’t have any current recalls on my VIN.

On n/b i5 between albany and salem oregon, traveling with the cruise control set at 73mph, the vehicle began abruptly braking on it's own. In a matter of seconds the vehicle went from 73mph to approximately 45mph, and hard/fast enough to lock the seat belt. The vehicle was then pulled off the highway, turned back on/off again, and driven to the destination without issues.

The vehicle at any known time goes into the parking brake mode and stalls! The dealership does not recognize the problem and twice we were advised to change the oil? The oil changes which should not even be entertained has always been kept up to date.

I was stopped at a red light, lght turned green and went to press the gas to go thru the light but car stalled and brake light came on. Car behind me almost ran into me and had to swerve to miss me. Starting about 4-5 months ago, when coming to a stop or taking off from a stop (could be a light or stop sign) the parking brake would activate on its own, making the car stall. Sometimes I can make it to the side of the road other times it stops in the middle of the road. This would occur about once a month ranging from 5mph to 15mph.

After starting car and driving for 2 minutes emergency break engages and car shuts off while in motion, upon turning off the car and restarting while turning right the low pressure sensor appears then disappears and service engine warning comes on car completely shuts off while in motion with no warning after the alarm disappears off dash.

Has the car 38 days and it stalled on me in traffic: wouldn't shift gears and stated that parking brake was engaged. Had it towed. Waited 3 weeks for part.

The jeep sat for four to five weeks during the covid-19 shut down. In april we started to drive the vehicle with only 10,870 miles on it and discovered serious pulsating when braking in the steering wheel and dangerous vibration in the braking altogether. Livonia chrysler jeep service person drove the jeep and determined warped rotors.would not repair under warranty.

I have a 2018 jeep compass that's I got a few weeks ago and I'm noticing now that my brakes are already terribly grinding, the engine gets way too hot even though the indicator is always neutral and never moves ever. Also the MPG is absolute crap and I think it has to do with the engine system itself causing problems.

While driving vehicle at varying speeds the parking brake automatically engages by itself, shutting the vehicle down. This has happened multiple times and the vehicle is currently at the dealership waiting for repair.

Upon first stop of day-only on first stop, the brakes stop vehicle extremely hard, if not wearing seat belt-you would impact windshield. After traveling for 10min brakes work correctly, this has been getting worse - vehicle is at dealer now and has been for two weeks-with no corrective action yet.

Rear wheel making grinding noise. Brought back to the dealer one day after purchase and dealer service dept said it's a known issue and they replaced all four rotor shields

Saw there was recall in past for rear piston but mine was not affected. But I’m having issues with the brakes. When slowing down or coming to stop when using the brake, the whole car shakes and rattles.

While driving the emergency brake self engages causing the Jeep to come to a sudden stop.

While driving on a busy road the car could not accelerate and the emergency brake turned on by itself causing the car to stop abruptly. This has happen 2 times in 1 week.

When driving 30 MPH my e-brake engaged by itself causing brake to lock up and jeep to turn off. Jeep mechanic cannot find code or anything wrong with it!

The parking break engages by itself when parked

I purchased my vehicle in sept. It has about 12k miles. Recently when I'm reversing out of my driveway the brakes will squeak pretty loud.

When coming to stops at different times the parking brake automatically engages and car will not move until disengaged. This has happened at stop lights and other times as I am coming to a stop.
