Description of Problem: Since purchase, this vehicle has exhibited severe safety defects, including sudden and repeated engine shutdowns at highway speeds, loss of power while driving, dashboard malfunctions, steering lockups, service ESC, dynamic steering torque service required, service hill holder, false fuel gauge readings, service airbag reading, transmission warming sign, and emergency brake engagement without command.

Transmission hard shift especially when cold. Makes grinding noise when shifting into 3rd. We have not taken it to a dealer cause we bought it used and it’s 62 thousand miles on the car and 60 thousand is supposedly the limit for the warranty.

On 2 separate occasions, my Jeep Compass has stalled completely shutting off, emergency brake engages on it's own and the steering wheel locks and the vehicle will not restart immediately. I have been on slight upward grades both times and vehicle starts shifting backwards as I attempt to get it restarted and it would not restart immediately either time.

At the end of february 2020 my 2018 jeep compass engine would seize, while I was driving. It would shut off, and automatically put on the parking brake. I would no longer be able to accelerate, I'd lose power steering, and then it would struggle to restart.

I've been getting this car serviced every 2-3 months for the same issue since I first leased it in july 2018. I've been saying it's a transmission issue, I get ignored. My car has stopped working in the middle of the road and highways for the entirety of my lease, it happened again on 3/1/2020 and the service department finally took it in.

Car has shut off while driving about 12 times the past 2 years. I noticed started after 6k. My oil is perfectly fine and I keep up with all the oil changes especially since it is a lease and is free with who I lease it through, its very dangerous and I have 4 children!!!!!

Transmission shift locked in reverse, when this happens engine will not shut off,shift will not move or disengage, have to hold brake peddle down or have accident. No shut down, had to have someone pull fuse under the hood to shut car off. Was in motion in reverse in a parking lot, almost hit car behind me.

At about 25 MPH the breaks didn't work when applied and caused an accident, some times the car speeds up even when gas pedal is not applied, sometimes when I shift to drive or reverse the d or r indicator flashing then I have to park and try again.

Latest incident (7/21/23) resulted in check engine light code: P1DD2 - “Torque Request Signal from TCM denied”. Check engine light came on - Jeep felt like it was going to stall. For several months now, I’ve had intermittent issues with the Jeep “shifting” on its own while driving without me touching the shifter.

I got an oil change and they said it wasn't leaking oil.

Caused the car to stall in an intersection and self applied the emergency brake at around 5mph causing the vehicle to jerk to a halt. 1) 10/29/2020 I was driving on the highway with the cruse control on when the car made a loud thump, jumped out cruse control, shut off, check engine light came on. After sitting for a bit, car started but would not go over 25 mpr back to town. At the signal light, when stopped, the car started to go in reverse.

On 12/12/2019 at approximately 8:30pm I was driving eastbound I-80 in utah traveling about 65mph. At mile marker 130 at the entrance to parleys canyon as I tried to accelerate my vehicle stalled, loosing power. I was able to move to the shoulder of the road but nearly rearended and several semi's needed to do quick manuevers to avoid colliding with me.

My fuel efficiency (MPG) is very poor my vehicle, I have 9.4 MPG power loss and the MPG's shown in the official manufacturing web page is epa est. MPG 22 city/30 hwy.

Unknown / Check engine lights came on, and then a warning saying stop safely, the engine will shut down soon, now it will not start. Leaving me stranded. This happened multiple times but now the car won’t start and will need to be towed. I have asked several repair shops and done research online, and nobody knows how to fix this issue.

I was driving and my car just stalled and I could not get it to start again. I have had this happen to me over 4 times. My car is currently at the Jeep Dealer and they charged me over $700 telling me it was wiring. It happened again on 11/24/2025 and they have had my car since then and they keep telling me they cannot figure out what was wrong with it. Today they called me and said it was a circuit thing. There was a recall for exactly what was happening to my car. NHTSA Recall 18v-524 just that my car was not recalled. I am now going 2 weeks without a car and it clearly is experiencing EXACTLY what the recall says. over 3 times I was on the highway when the car stalled while I was driving. It just stopped in the middle of the highway the car behind me had to stop short. I had a bad panic attack. Why are they not doing the right thing and fixing what they know they have to fix. While driving between 30-50mph in inclement weather the 4 wheel drive system attempts to engage the rear axle for additional traction. When this occurs there is a intermittent banging noise that emits from the bottom of the vehicle and a bad vibration throughout the vehicle.
