Invalid Date

NHTSA Campaign: 18V170000

Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats have a lever to fold the seatback and slide the seat forward to access the third row seats. Due to a manufacturing error, if the walk-in release lever is used to fold a fully reclined left outboard seatback forward, the seatback may stay in the unlocked position (free-folding) or unexpectedly unlock without engaging the walk-in or recliner lever.

Risk: An unlocked second row left outboard seatback increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will confirm proper operation of the second row left outboard seatback, and install a support bracket to the seat recliner. If the seatback cannot lock, dealers will replace the seatback frame assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X0R.

NHTSA Campaign: 17V725000

Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats can slide sideways to one of two positions. If a seat is placed between either of the two positions when attaching the seat to the vehicle floor, the seat will not latch properly to the seat striker, allowing the seat to tip forward unexpectedly during braking.

Risk: If the seat tips forward during braking, it can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a bracket to the second row outboard floor strikers, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2018. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is S0G.

NHTSA Campaign: 16V933000

Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Odyssey vehicles manufactured August 17, 2010, to October 1, 2015. The affected vehicles have second row outboard seats that have a release lever that allows the seats to move for easier access to the third row of seats. This release lever may remain in the unlocked position allowing the seats to move unexpectedly.

Risk: An unlocked second row outboard seat increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional bracket and spring to both second row outboard seats, free of charge. Interim letter has been mailed, and a second notification will be sent . Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KD5.

NHTSA Campaign: 14V175000

Component: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Honda is recalling certain model year 2014 Odyssey vehicles manufactured October 2, 2013, through December 16, 2013. The shorting terminal, an electrical connector used to prevent air bag deployment before being installed into a vehicle, may have been damaged during assembly of the passenger-side side curtain air bag.

Risk: If the shorting terminal is damaged, the passenger-side side curtain air bag may fail to deploy thereby increasing the risk of occupant injury in a crash.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the damaged shorting pin with a new shorting coupler, free of charge. The recall began on May 16, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JE2.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your engine's head gasket failed, causing oil and coolant to mix together inside your cooling system. You may have noticed a strong burning smell from the air vents, your temperature gauge rising, an 'Engine Hot' warning appearing on your dashboard, and your engine misfiring or losing power. The fix will require replacing the head gasket and flushing the cooling system to remove the contaminated oil-coolant mixture.

Your engine experienced piston failure despite regular Honda dealer maintenance and proper driving conditions. This suggests a potential manufacturing defect rather than maintenance issues. The repair is extensive, currently costing around $6,000 at the dealership. Fixing this will require engine disassembly, piston replacement, and likely related component inspection.

NHTSA #: 11668526

Filed: Jan 2026

Your engine's piston rings have worn down, causing sludge buildup that fouls the spark plugs and creates misfiring. This problem occurred twice (March 2025 and July 2025), and both times a mechanic confirmed the diagnosis. Honda issued a warranty extension but will only cover repairs after the check engine light comes on and you have the car towed to a Honda dealer by January 31, 2026. The repair will likely involve replacing the piston rings and cleaning or replacing the spark plugs.

Your engine started misfiring and your dashboard warning lights came on, leading to a diagnosis of a piston ring problem in cylinder 4. You paid out of pocket for the repair at a Honda dealer. When Honda later issued a recall for this same issue, you submitted your repair documentation and receipt for reimbursement, but Honda repeatedly denied your claim citing missing payment proof and incorrect codes on your invoice—even after you provided dealer contact information to verify both the payment and the repair work. The fix involved replacing or servicing the piston rings and addressing the misfire condition.

Your engine had a piston ring problem that you paid to have repaired before Honda issued an extended warranty covering that exact issue. After you submitted your repair documentation for reimbursement, Honda denied your claim twice, saying specific error codes needed to be listed on the original work order—even though your dealer confirmed the repair matches the warranty coverage. The fix involved replacing or servicing the piston rings in your engine.

The white pearl paint on your 2014 Odyssey's roof is peeling off, especially on the front part of the roof where almost all the paint has come away. You may notice this is a widespread issue reported by other owners of this model year and paint color. Fixing this will likely require roof repainting by a professional body shop.

While driving at 30 MPH and stopping at a traffic light, your 2014 Honda Odyssey suddenly illuminated several warning lights, shut off, and wouldn't restart even after a jump start. After the vehicle restarted briefly, it stopped again and wouldn't move, and you found yourself trapped inside because the door locks wouldn't respond to either the key fob or the unlock button. The vehicle was towed away but never diagnosed or repaired by a dealer.

Both automatic sliding doors on your van have stopped working because the cables broke on each side. This is a safety concern, especially if you have small children, since the doors can now slide open unexpectedly on driveways. The repair will likely involve replacing the broken cables and the door mechanisms on both sides.

Filed: Jan 2025

Your Odyssey hesitates and stalls when accelerating from a complete stop at traffic lights, then suddenly jerks forward rapidly—putting you and other drivers at risk of collision. This problem has occurred for over a year, especially during stop-and-go traffic, but Honda dealers haven't been able to reproduce it during three service visits. The issue is likely related to fuel injection or a sensor malfunction, and may require diagnostic testing and sensor replacement or fuel system service.

Your engine may misfire severely due to fouled spark plugs caused by oil burning in the cylinders, making acceleration dangerously poor and the check engine light flash. You might experience violent shaking and difficulty driving when this occurs. Honda has acknowledged this issue with a warranty extension that covers spark plug replacement and a partial engine rebuild with software updates, but the fix only applies after the problem starts and may expire within six months.

While you were braking to stop at a traffic light, your engine suddenly revved and your car surged forward into the vehicle ahead, even though you kept your foot on the brake pedal the entire time. This resulted in a crash. The problem likely involves either the brake system failing to hold the car, the engine unexpectedly accelerating, or the cruise control system malfunctioning.

You purchased a used 2014 Honda Odyssey from an auto auction with a clean title, but Carfax and AutoCheck reports show the vehicle had severe damage and odometer mileage discrepancies that weren't disclosed before the sale. The clean title was issued just one day before the auction, raising concerns about possible odometer fraud or title washing (where salvage titles are made to appear clean). If the vehicle sustained serious structural damage in the past, this could affect the car's safety and structural integrity.

CrashFiled: May 2025

While turning into your driveway with your foot on the brake, your engine suddenly revved and the car accelerated toward a building wall. Pumping the brake didn't stop the car immediately—it only stopped after hitting a curb, causing you and your passenger to lurch forward and sustain minor injuries. Your mechanic couldn't find any mechanical problems after inspecting the car for two days. This issue may involve a problem with your throttle control system, brake system, or engine management that needs diagnostic testing to identify.

Filed: Feb 2025

Your cruise control system may malfunction and cause your engine to race and the vehicle to surge forward even when you're trying to stop, and braking alone may not stop the car. This happened when the cruise control was activated but no speed was set, yet the car tried to return to a previously set speed—normally braking should automatically turn off cruise control. The problem appears to be random and hasn't been reproduced by a mechanic, though it may recur. Fixing this will likely require a complete diagnostic and possible repair or replacement of the cruise control system components.

Your transmission isn't shifting smoothly — it hesitates and jerks, especially when moving from lower to higher gears. You're also hearing a noise coming from the driver's side wheel, though your brake pads appear fine. The transmission may need a fluid check, filter change, or internal repair, and the wheel noise should be diagnosed to rule out suspension or bearing issues.

Filed: Sep 2025

Your engine started misfiring on cylinder 2, causing the check engine light to blink and rough running that left you stranded. The dealership determined that oil was gumming up your spark plugs due to a design issue in the 2014 Odyssey, and recommended replacing piston rings as a long-term fix ($5,640), but you opted for a temporary spark plug replacement ($465) instead. Honda offered a warranty extension and promised reimbursement for the repair, but has denied your $465 claim despite providing contradictory reasons, and won't cover the needed piston ring replacement since the van isn't currently broken—leaving your vehicle unsafe for highway driving.

Your 2014 Honda Odyssey has several issues: the radiator fan keeps running after you turn off the engine, you need to press the shutdown button multiple times to fully power down the car, the engine temperature spikes to maximum after just 20 minutes of driving, and the sliding doors only work intermittently—sometimes requiring multiple attempts to open. These problems feel unsafe and are limiting your ability to drive the car normally. The overheating and electrical issues may require diagnostics of the cooling system, engine control module, and door actuator systems.
