2017 Ford Fusion Electrical Problems

NHTSA COMPLAINT - 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium (VIN: REDACTED) - [XXX] (Collision) Q1: FAILED COMPONENT Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) and hybrid battery cell balancing circuits failed post-collision. Per Ford Recall 23V-440, Current Interrupt Device causes excess voltage, fire risk, toxic gas exposure.

The APIM in the vehicle is malfunctioning causing a constant drain on the 12v battery system. I brought the car to Ford and they said it is a common issue with the APIM malfunctioning, they quoted me 1800 to change the APIM which I can not afford. I was driving to work and my car smelled like rotten eggs, I started feeling nauseous and light headed.

Loses power .. Cylinder misfire P0301 Diagnostics

Vehicle codes started to appear on the dashboard ( temp light, engine light, battery light) warning signs also appeared ( overheating in engine ) engine coolant started to decrease no leak was detected. It was taken to a mechanic to get evaluated and they came to the conclusion that it was leaking internally into the car which caused other issues.

My 2017 fusion has completely stalled on 2 different occasions while driving. The latest incident occurred on 3/4/18. As I proceeded to make a left turn at a busy intersection..the car shut off with no warning.

I purchased this car on 8/31/16 and on 11/28/16 the dreaded dead battery problems started. I took in it, they replaced the battery on 11/28 said that it was probably just a faulty battery from the manufacture and that it happens, rarely but it happens. On 12/31/17 I went to start my car and it again would not start.

Issue 1: FMVSS critical safety issue. Intermittent total failure of climate control system, including failure of defogger causing obstructed visibility in cold climates (vehicle is based in metropolitan detroit). The failure is both electrical and mechanical.

The 12v battery on my 2017 Fusion Energi titanium has failed every 6-10 months since buying the car new. Each failure is at best, inconvenient and expensive, however on multiple occasion it resulted a dangerous situation that compounded, knocking out fuses for components which manage power steering and other components.

Shift system failure. 2023 replace plastic piece that was not a recall on 27 but was a recall on all other models. Last week shift system failure $706 to replace shifter picked up car Saturday.

I purchased this vehicle in late 2017 and immediately experienced an electrical issue that de-charged the battery. It was less than two weeks after my initial purchase. Since then, I have been stranded several times, inconvenienced, and frustrated by the level of service I received at Liccardi Ford in Watchung NJ.

My vehicle start stalling the check engine light came on and then the car slowed down and wouldn't go over 25miles on the interstate and I almost got hit by other vehicles trying to pass me. I was close to the ford dealership so I decided to go there. Not long after the temperature gauge starts to go up.

My car was purchased about 1 1/2 years ago as a certified preowned from sheehy ford in ashland, va. Since then the battery has begun draining for no reason when the car is sitting still. I went to leave work a few months ago and there was nothing left on in the vehicle.

Lost all electrical while driving, headlights,engine died, all at speed on a busy highway at night.we have been experiencing minor electrical defects/glitches in the past month.windows going up and down if you touch the window switch. Driver needs to rest alarm every 5 minutes at times..it just has some sort of electrical glitch.

My car windows will go up and then automatic come back down. The radio switchs channels on its own. The car stalls out and won't start.

The vehicle was parked in a grocery store parking lot for approximately 30 minutes. Upon (trying) to leave, the vehicle would not shift out of park. All other systems were functioning normally.

Dead battery issue. Brand new car sitting for 6 days has battery go below "minimum start" and when start button is pressed, entire car goes dead. Issue is not isolated to only my car.

In our 2017 Ford Fusion, the back up camera sometimes says "unavailable at this time" (or something close to that) when put in reverse. It is available for inspection upon request.

Leaking fluids

What malfunctioned- Car did not give any notice that it was in engine failure for months other than under performing and upon taking it to the ford dealership was never helped with the problem they took money for an oil change and works package but failed to make sure my car was safe.

I obtained my vehicle on Lease in 2017 with 40K miles from Ford of Branford CT. When off lease I purchased it outright. I still own the vehicle and am still having Two main problems, One since almost the beginning.

There is a recall on 2017 Ford Fusion's torque converter. I currently have a 2017 Ford Fusion.

My brakes are faulty sometimes I’m not able to stop like I should. I also have transmission problems. When I put the car into reverse or drive I hear a loud boom.

The shift dial (park, neutral, drive, reverse), makes a continuous spin noise like it's stuck and trying to turn, but can't. This is the second time this is happening. I had it fixed the first time at the Ford dealership, and was short one year in the Recall group.

The Rotary "Dial Shifter" keeps coming on while the vehicle is turned off as well as making a gear sound saying it's not in park when it is. I have had the vehicle for a month and I've had to jump the car 5 times already as it will come on and stay on. I looked it up and some fushions were recalled for it with the issue of that and the cd player and rear speakers making noise.

Turbocharger leaked oil into the engine causing irreparable damage to the engine. Oil leaking cause engine failure, smoke coming out of the tailpipe, several blown gaskets and steering wheel malfunction. Cars computer system froze, enabling vehicle to move forward.

3 days after purchasing the vehicle I wasn't sure but I could tell that something was wrong so I called my husband and told him while driving the car that something was wrong and he needs to notify the dealership. 5 days after purchasing the vehicle I went into a grocery store. When I came out the car was on/running, all by itself.

My car started smoking out of nowhere, smoke was coming out of the tail pipe. My cars check engine light begin to blink. The whole entire car begin to shake.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal; brake fluid was seen leaking from underneath the front passenger’s side wheel. Additionally, the vehicle would not immediately start while pressing the brake pedal and START/STOP button.

Both front windows go down automatically when trying to close the window. Has been fixed at dealer twice. In order to close window, you have to “pulsate” the button to almost closed.

Vehicle constantly has 12v battery dying. Replaced with new battery and same thing 12v battery keeps dying. Hooked up my current meter to the car and it is constantly drawing 11amps from the battery.

While driving, the dashboard goes black. When this happened, I slowed down to stop. After I’m almost stopped, the engine stops and spins the gear shift into park making grinding noise as cars do when they go into park before coming to a complete stop.

THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES BY THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SOFTWIRE CONNECTION, F33 AND ACM NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED COMMUNICATION NUMBER: SSM 48757110000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 481.

June 1st 2020 while driving 55mph on a hot day windows down stereo blasting suddenly the speakers screech a defening sound and then nothing .screen displays audio off and won't turn on. No music and the part that's dangerous no GPS prompts (I get lost easily) the next day its cooler and it works again.

2017 ford fusion. Consumer writes in regards to defective battery. *ld the consumer stated since the purchase of the vehicle the battery has died a total of 7 times.

I purchased the car on october 21st of 2019. I have had nothing but issues with this car basically sense purchasing it. I bought the car with 54,000 miles.

Was going to leave work in april and my fusion could not start. Bought and replaced my battery. Traveled to ga to visit a family member.

Battery continues to drain and vehicle continues to not start. The vehicle was dead twice in oct and nov. In december battery replacement.

I bought my ford fusion used from a dealership. I drove the car home and parked it in my garage. The next day I went to leave and my battery was dead.

Since I bought the car in march of 2019 it has given me problems with starting. It seems the battery is always dead even when the battery is new and the mechanic tells me the battery is charged finally today a mechanic told me it may be the starter. Because when I try to start it most times it is delayed or sometimes it won't start and I need a jump .

2017 fusion is once again back to make a second attempt to find why the battery is being drained. I have pics of each time that it as completely died and I had to recharge the battery. The last time it was sitting on my driveway for 5 days and it competely drained the battery.

The ford "sync 3" system, which seems to be the brains of nearly all interior controls and accessories has been malfunctioning in multiple ford models for a few years now. Thing affected include all HVAC controls, audio controls, power seats, windows, remote start abilities and more.

2017 fusion is once again back at the dealer to make a third attempt to find why the battery is being drained. Each time 10/dec/18, 11/jan/19, and 18/aug/19 the vehicle did not start it was parked in our garage. It also took hours to recharge the battery to get it started to drive it back to the dealer each time.

On four occasions it was taken to the dealer for service, three other times jump-started by her neighbor so she could get to doctor's appointments. Due to health problems, she cannot afford to miss these appointments. Apparently, this dead-battery issue is a widespread problem with the fusions.

The front driver side and passenger side windows will not close fully on occasion. If you try rolling the window up it will automatically roll back down to about halfway to 2/3 open. I tried to get this issue corrected at he dealership once.

I have had my battery replaced a number of times my car loses power often has to be jump started. The cruise control activates itself speeding me up and slowing me down and the radio no longer works actually none of the controls on the steering wheel and or the radio work

I had driven the car the previous day and parked it in my driveway and the car was completely dead the next morning. I had replaced the battery only 4 months prior. It was a new battery.

I was backing out of my driveway and the car did not go more than 10 feet backwards when the whole system shut down and had to restart. It took more than 10 minutes to restart and it took 3-4 times of putting on the brake and pushing the start button before the system would re-initiate. This was the second time the car had done this and the whole system and to re-start.

Almost everytime I put my car into reverse, it puts itself back to park. It happens sometimes when I put it into drive- it will put itself back into park.I took it to the dealership and they replaced the actuator, but it is still doing it.

Ford fusion 2017 has lost all electrical power while driving at highway speed. Brought car in to be checked at the dealership. I was told nothing was wrong and that it was safe to drive.

Just after leaving dealership for the cars first oil change, the car no longer has blinkers, wipers (except fast speed) and all steering wheel controls are inactive.

At 1884 miles, vehicle would not start. When jump started, check engine light was on. Retrieved codes for "almost every module" had low voltage.

I've had battery failure on 4 occasions within a month of purchasing the vehicle and the battery has been replaced but the issue remains. This is a known issue with the fusion as I've read in many blogs online and complaints on NHTSA website but ford has yet to issue a tsa or recall.

Car was parked for 9 days in an enclosed structure at an airport. Upon return, the battery was completely dead. Got a "jump" to get engine started.

Horn, randomly sounds off

Rear camera all of a sudden stops working and says "rear camera not available", creating unsafe conditions when backing up. Common issue on Ford Fusions, for which there's a recall recently announced for the 2016 model year but not for 2017, even though same signs and symptoms and vehicle otherwise. Could you please investigate.

Car dies and fuel tank honks all the time even while putting gas in it won’t start or will die it happens at red lights all the time I have a hard time grit to start back up it’s very dangerous

The TCM (Transmission Control Module) is faulty in this vehicle causing unstable gear shift that slow and stop the vehicle making it extremely unsafe to drive. I've been made aware Ford employees are familiar with this issue in the 2017 Ford Focus yet I have seen no attempt by Ford to contact owners (me) to address and fix this issue.

unknown vehicle needs to be jumped after every drive. I just picked up the car. only have had it for 4 days.

Trunk keeps popping open on its own while driving. Has happened at ranging speeds between 5 and 60 MPH, different hours throughout the day, Temps between 27 and 70 degrees F. The Key fob is in clear site, on its own no one holding or any chance of button being pressed.

The Air conditioner blower will turn on all by itself while driving. The on off button for the radio stopped working

The car will not shift. The car will start but I cannot shift from Park to neutral or drive

I was driving and proceeded to park and I couldn't shift from drive to park. It happened twice since the 20th of march. I had to turn off car and shift again.

Battery keep battery keeps going dead

I was driving about 10 mins away from my house, in the city as I approached a red light my car shut off. It stopped while I was in motion , I couldn't brake, theres was nothing could do but just let the car stop on its own. The battery light started to flash, the wrench light came on.

Turned car on and immediately received the shift sys fault service required warning. Car would not go into gear as well as the parking brake would not go off. Attempted to utilize the key hole in the center console, did not assist at all.

Car kept giving us a flat code for gears....saying transmission wasnt in park.car wouldnt start or shift gears...this happened as we were driving the car

The electric charger that plugs into the 120v wall outlet is over heating on every charge. Started happening within the last month.

Tried to start car. Battery light, engine light and power train light came on. Never started.

Ford sync 3 "apim" failure. The module controlling the infotainment system in the car failed after a software update to version 3.0. Happened 7 days past and 6000mi before warranty expired with ford unwilling to cover any of the cost.

Brake are not working

If I turn on my electronic parking brake and turn my car off by the time I wake up my car battery will be drained

Error message on instrument panel displays "temporarily lost communication with the climate system" when this happens the climate system, radio, windows, and seat controls stop working, this happens randomly and can last as long as a week. Many owners with several different ford models are experiencing this problem and ford refuses to acknowledge it.

I have a good battery and my car keeps on draining the battery. The car was only driven 8400 miles mostly highway miles and the only way I can start it is by jumping the battery.

Mechanic states...power citic draw is causing car to lose power at any given time. Car needs to be jump started to run; we just purchased the vehicle 3monthds prior from drive time & were not aware of this problem. The vehicle is not drivable.

Driving car one day and turn signals failed to function when preparing to make a turn in town. Checked fuses and bulbs and all were good. Tried the left turn signal and it was not working either.

The windows go up and down by themselves and you can't put them up all the way or they will go back down by themselves and their is some kind of interference in the electrical system that comes through the stereo and lights. Randomly upon starting the car none of the dashboard controls work including HVAC controls, radio or window controls, memory seats also.

While trying to use auto in windows the window would go up then right back down sis it like 17 times back to back. Also after shutting car off while sitting in the car it pushed the lock button and received a message saying something about switches

Have had car for just one year 18676 miles and it has turned off randomly 3 times during this time. Randomly under light driving conditions while making a turn the car looses power and when you look at the dash it says full accessory like you just pushed the button with out touching the brake to start. Once coasted to a safe location you can restart the car and everything runs fine.

Battery discharges when car is parked for more than a day. This has happened regularly since the vehicle was new.

We bought this vehicle brand new and we had this problem since day one at deliver, the vehicle had more batteries than days in my driveway.

I have owned my ford fusion since march 2017. Twice since june 2017 I have come out to a car that will not start. The first time this occurred wthere was no way for us to manually jump the car due to the plastic guard had not been removed.

There is a well-documented issue about dead batteries in this vehicle, likely caused by a faulty acm (audio control module). There are hundreds of posts about this over the web, some of which can be found here: high-level complaint: battery is dead after sitting for 8 hours every single day on a new vehicle with less than 3000 miles. Unacceptable!

The driverside/passenger side windows go up and then comes right back down automatically. When you try to make the windows stay up they come back down. I tried to do it when the car was moving and stationery.

Ford egineers are working on a window problem . When the windows tries to close ,as it hit the top, it immediately goes back down. Been to shop 2 times with the drivers window and the latest was with both front windows.
