2017 Ford Explorer Transmission Problems

While your vehicle was parked on ramps for maintenance, it unexpectedly slipped out of Park and rolled backward with significant force, causing the door to strike and damage a building. This unexpected shift could create a serious safety hazard if someone were working underneath or behind the vehicle, or if other vehicles or property were in its path.

I periodically have unintended acceleration ; it has occurred off and on for the past two years . The Ford dealer said no faults were detected so they can't fix the problem . It most often when I am shifting into reverse then the RPMs increase dramatically and when I put it in neutral they shoot up even more .

I have found a recall/customer satisfaction program (20N07) I took the car to a Ford dealership and they confirmed the torque convertor is ruined.

- Transmission/torque convertor has and is failing. Results in lack of acceleration during launch, sluggish vehicle operation and shudder - Known issue with this make/model/year of vehicle. Failure of the above began at 40,000 some miles and is presently not driveable at only 67,000 miles without an $8-$10,000 repair for a new transmission.

While driving my 2017 Ford Explorer, There was a smell of burnt oil/tire entering my vehicle through the vents. I took it in to the Ford Dealership and I was advised that I needed a brand new transfer case, and the front engine mounts needed to be replaced due to broken seals. This was causing transmission fluid to leak onto other parts (hot) which was causing the smell while I was driving.

Vehicle shutters, jerks and loses acceleration between 50 to 60 miles per hour. Can cause accident with other vehicles behind on freeway or any other circumstance. Have had vehicles behind me almost ram the back of my vehicle when this happens.

Both turbos failed and so did the water pump. Less than 90,000 miles. When the turbos failed, there was smoke from the tailpipes.

This issue already has an NHTSA id number 10156860 leaking pdu. The particular failure of this unit leaks oil onto hot exhaust and according to a local service center is a fire risk putting occupants and property in potential harms way. It appears to be a very well documented and common failure and in my opinion should be a recall due to the safety concerns.

About a week ago my vehicle was idling, backed straight into the turnaround in my driveway with the car in park. The two passenger side doors were open. My daughters and I (unbuckled) sat there about ten minutes while the engine was cranked but in park, waiting on my husband to finish up grabbing things for the vacation we were getting ready to leave on.

Upon parking our brand new explorer in our driveway (it has a 10 degree slant), we turned off the keyless/push button ignition, but my husband accidentally had it in drive. When backing up and the wheel is turned there's a hesitation then what feels like I hit something. (a clunk w/o the noise ) then when break peddle is pressed the car shimmies bad . I also smell antifreeze coming from the heater vents .brought it back to dealership for them to fix it since it was just purchased there ..

Two ford dealerships have attempted to repair transmission issue which was first reported last october 2019 with only 11,000 miles. Since then, 6 repairs have been made by ford in an attempt to fix ongoing transmission issue but have been unsuccessful. Vehicle will not accelerate at high rates of speed.

Several problems with this explorer. There was a noise in the engine compartment when the a/c is running and gibbons ford tried to fix it several times. They tightened a heat shield twice.

Purchased 2017 ford explorer new with only 549 miles. 16 months after purchase, at approx. 39,000 miles, torque converter went out and had to be replaced.

Takata recall after purchasing 2017 explorer noticed severe headaches, digestion problems, drowsiness, difficulty focusing due to carbon monoxide entering the cabin. Took it to the dealer for a recall but doesn't seem like that they solved the issue. Also noticed a rumbling sound underneath the vehicle when turning left under acceleration, feeling like a transmission problem.

Ford explorer transmission complaint I took my 2017 ford explorer into ford dealer and explained about a shifting problem between 1st and 2nd gear the but they found nothing during technician diagnostics in october of 2017 I started experiencing the jerking problem again except this time it was during my first morning start up and accelerating from 1st to 2nd gear and would get a substantial jerk.

The car lurches for the first 40-50 feet at slow speeds while applying minimal pressure on the gas pedal. It happens the initial time putting it in drive after each engine start, regardless of putting it in reverse first or not. It used to only happen after every few starts, but has progressed to every single time now and some can be very aggressive.

When gear is engaged in 'd' with engine on, vehicle moves without foot on throttle. When brake is applied to stop it, there comes a loud vibration from the engine which becomes nervous and tries to drag vehicle forward unless gear is put in 'n' or 'p'. It happens anytime vehicle is stationary with engine running including stop signs and traffic lights.

Vehicle surge on first acceleration after starting the engine. Surge - the vehicle experiences an accelerating lunge forward and then stops for about two or three cycles (stop/start, stop/start etc.) it is unexpected and uncontrollable until it subsides within 20 to 30 feet.

2017 ford explorer ecoboost with approximately 8800 miles started making a whinning noise from the transmission. Noticed making right turns the transmission felt like it would disengage and abruptly engage as if thrown in neutral then slammed into dirive. Taking off from light would do similar issue.

Need a new transmission when I need to press the gas it won’t go it like I’m just pushing the gas in park

I backed into a parking spot, put the car in park and turned the vehicle off. As I was getting ready to get out of the car, it rolled backwards into another car parked to my passenger side rear. My vehicle did not give any warning, no sensor alert, or anything!

Our 2017 ford explorer has been having this issue for about 6 months where every time it reaches a speed of 30 MPH you feel the gear kicking in hard. The vehicle jerks after it sounds like it struggles to get into that next gear. As time passes it is more noticeable and stronger it does not matter the speed or road.

A few months ago (less than 30,000 miles) transmission began to "thump" when shifting in low gear after stop at light or stop sign. Lately, transmission makes a loud "thud" and very noticeable jerk when shifting in low gear after stop.

Transmition failure. The vehicle was on a highway and lost acceleration and power to drive creating an unsafe condition.
