2016 Ford Explorer Fuel System Problems

On June 14, we drove our 2016 Ford Explorer from Tallahassee, FL to Boone, NC without issue. However, on [XXX], upon starting the vehicle, we noticed a gasoline smell. Concerned for our safety, we checked the car before leaving the neighborhood and discovered fuel pouring from the front.

Moving down a highway when with a sudden shutter and then a loud bang the car immediately lost power with blinding smoke in and around the car. Made it to the side of the road and had fire lapping up the drivers side rocker panel from under the car. Transfer case exploded with such force it damaged the transmission.

The fuel line attracted a critter most likely a squirrel which chewed through the rubber hose and cause a severe fuel leak that covered the entire engine compartment. We had to immediately pull over and shut off the vehicle to prevent a fire.

I was traveling in the number one lane at 65mph in holiday traffic and I suddenly lost all throttle response. RPM dropped to 1,500 and speed dropped to 10mph this almost caused a rear ender since no brake lights came on. This is a life and death issue!

Water pump failure which causes the car to stall immediately when it overheats. This appears to be a common issue with 2016 Ford Explorers

While driving with children present the car suddenly lost power and my wife could not accelerate. She had to drift over to the side of the road. The "wrench" light and check engine light came on the dash.

Vehicle lost power in the city going about 35mph, had to coast to side of the road, bad throttle body...... 6600 miles on the car service light came on zero throttle response.

Purchased vehicle new on 06/24/16. On 06/28/16 was driving on a neighborhood street traveling around 20 MPH and vehicle lost power. Vehicle flashed error code full accessory power active, no wrench symbol and engine was still on just no response from accelerator.

My wife was driving our 2016 ford explorer that has 4900 miles on it. After making a right hand turn the car lost power, went into (limp mode) wrenches and check engine light came on. She made it to a parking lot and restarted the car which ran ok for another mile before it lost power again, restarted again with the same result.

4 months after purchasing a new explorer, it began to lurch while waiting at red lights. That same week, while driving on the dallas north tollway (70 MPH), the dashboard lit up and the car began to decelerate (gas pedal did not work). After dodging cars, I made it over 3 lanes with the hazard lights on and proceeded to the exit ramp.

My purge valve was stuck open and had strong fuel vapors leaking inside of the car cabin. I became lightheaded and went to the ER. This was before the check engine light came on.

2016 ford explorer. When putting car in reverse there is a loud thud then when putting it in drive another loud thud that actually sounds like I hit something. Then when trying to give it gas it will act as if it is in neutral.

When done pumping fuel, fuel leaks out of the filler door and gas collects around the hole and runs down the outside panel of the vehicle

I purchased this vehicle in february 2017 used with 12,000 miles. About 1 month later I noticed an exhaust fume smell inside the vehicle. I took this vehicle on a 3.5 hour trip in march with 3 friends and they all noticed it as well.

When driving at 65mph on interstate 287 the car did a slight jolt and then lost all power. The engine remained running, power steering and brakes still worked, but there was no acceleration. Wrench light and check engine lights came on.

I previously owned and 2013 ford explorer xlt and took it 3 times t dealership for having it check for fumes coming into the cabin when suddenly accelerating the vehicle. The issue was never corrected. I purchased and 2016 xlt hoping to have this issue not longer bothering, sadly I am experiencing the same issue with my new explorer.

I have recently had problems with the throttle body in my 2016 explorer, to the point that the truck would not move when the gas pedal was pressed. I was stopped at a light and when it turned green I stepped on the gas pedal and the car started to buck and then would not accelerate. Gas filler neck is loose, making it difficult to fill the gas tank without spillage. I don't recall how long this has been an issue, but it has been a problem for multiple years. There have been no incidents that preceded this problem.

Persistent emissions smell in cabin causing headaches for the driver. Roesche ford in elmhurst illinois conducted warranty work which consisted of "reprogramming" the car. The fix did not work and roesch filed an appel to ford - who is denying liability and claiming the "reprogramming" is the fix.

Fume smell coming from vehicle while moving, can smell both inside and outside of car! Seems like smell is more in front of car then in back once car is parked and I get out of car. I am feeling very unwell while driving; nausea, dizziness, stingy eyes and blurry vision.

While stationary, or sitting in vehicle while idling, carbon monoxide is detected in the cabin and I have been falling asleep and staying tired for rest of the day. This has been going on in the 2 months that I have had the new SUV. I suspected after I was told by a friend that this has been reported by sheriffs.

I drive my 2016 ford explorer more than 80 miles a day, mostly in interstate traffic. I have noticed a strong odor that resembles mercaptain or burning fuel. I have dismissed this as traffic related and switched the a/c to recirculate but often have to vent by rolling down windows.

Exhaust fumes in cabin- I am experiencing a strong sulfuric smell in the cabin after hard acceleration. This occurs when the car is running and has occurred on both the highway and on city streets.

Accelerator issue - ford explorer limited 2016: upon initial acceleration through an intersection (man-o-war/todd's rd. Lexington, ky) and reaching approximately 10mph the vehicle failed to accelerate then began coasting. After four or five attempts to push the accelerator, the engine (2.4l) revved and the vehicle began gaining speed with no further problems.

The inside of the SUV smells exhaust gas when you are merging into freeway on ramps and/or passing someone. Especially with the sunroof open.

Throttle body - has failed. Orange wrench light came on , right after making a right turn and car went into what is called "limp mode". This happened while I was at least 200 miles away from home, in mid size city.
