2020 Ford Escape Transmission Problems

System failures with lights and warnings include: hill start assist, All wheel drive fault, precollision assist, advanctrac. Rear differential and AWD module had to be replaced. Car has 57,000 miles on it and is a 2020.

Turbo failed due to oil lines clogged. Failed again after repair two weeks later on highway almost causing a collision.

I have had 22 recalls to date on this vehicle and received 1 recall notice. Engine light comes on alot, makes noises and then goes away after a couple days. Windshield washer stopped working on front windshield, now back stopped working.

The transmission shifting got increasingly rough over time, and then suddenly refused to shift into gear/reverse. The Ford shop told us it was the reverse solenoid, but it ended up requiring a full transmission rebuild. Safety of the car refusing to shift gears LED to loss of power several times, unable to accelerate in traffic, until total failure occurred.

Summary of Problem: Following the mandatory software update for NHTSA Recall 22V859 (Ford 22S73) on my 2020 Ford Escape 1.5L, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic electrical failure. The vehicle is now subject to the expanded NHTSA Recall 25V467 (Ford 25S76) with a status of 'Remedy Not Available'.

The vehicle is subject to an open federal safety recall involving a fuel injector that may crack and leak fuel onto the top of the engine. According to NHTSA, liquid fuel or fuel vapor may accumulate near hot engine or exhaust components, creating a risk of an under-hood fire and injury. I purchased this vehicle after the recall had already been issued.

Total failure of transmission. The transmission on this car failed while driving making it unable to move and creating a risk of collision with other vehicles. No warning displayed on dash until after failure.

I completed my 70,000 maintenance on my vehicle on Monday. Friday when I got in my car after shopping, the dash light for parking brake kept coming on. When I put it in drive, the engine light, park assist light, collision assist light, and multiple warning lights kept cycling on my car’s screen.

At about 95,000 miles, I began experiencing transmission issues. On several occasions, the transmission would not go into second gear and left the vehicle unable to move forward unless I let off the accelerator and it shifted back into first gear. At about 96,000 miles, when placing the vehicle into Park, the Park light would flash and a growling/grinding noise is present for about 5-10 seconds.

By dong my own research, I found out it was the AWD Module. It's not grounded correctly. There are multiple, long detailed forum posts on this.

It appears that either the rear differential is locked up, or the traction control system has decided to lock all tires for the same rotation. When making any turns at slow speed, the tires grind and pop on the road. If turning in grass it will rip up the grass where the turn was made.

All Wheel Drive (AWD) triggered a fault and stopped functioning while drive, resulting in loss of traction and wheel slippage in slippery conditions. Ford dealership diagnosed a faulty AWD module and admitted this is a very common problem with all 2020 Ford Escapes but that it is NOT covered under warranty.

Power Train Fault Indicator came on indicating that the Turbo Charger was in an underboost condition. This caused the vehicle to lose power on the highway which could have placed my family in a unsafe condition.

There is a courtesy replacement on the main fuel injector. I just recently had to replace my turbo. No my car bogs down won't go and smells like eggs which is the catalytic converter.

I just bought this car less than 6 months ago, and the other day I had an “AWD Fault Service Required” light come on. Come to find out it’s a bad AWD computer module. I get to searching online and see hundreds of people with the same problem.

Took in the vehicle to be inspected and Ford said the AWD module isn't working. It states my AWD is off and not functioning.

While driving home from work the car stopped reacting to the gas pedal and I was going fast enough to coast into a parking lot. Had I been on the bridge or turnpike it could have been a disaster.

I have paid for Ford to look into a AWD error code that came up and they had stated that my PTU has failed and they did a fix for that but I still have the same issue. The vehicle deactivates AWD and defaults to 2 wheel drive until Ford can get it in

Vehicle cannot engage park. Shift sys fault appears and throws a code that states that park may not be available. Ford has refused to help.

When the Escape interior reaches a certain temperature (between 90-101 degrees), the gear selector (a knob-like device), will not move--you cannot move from Park into any other gear. I have to either pump the brakes OR turn on the AC to get the interior a little cooler, before I can move the gear selector. There are reports of others dealing with this, mostly 2020-2021 Escapes.

AWD Fault Service Required message on screen which then triggered multiple other warning messages such as auto start and stop disabled, traction control is disabled, AWD is no.longer functional and neither is my cruise control. Ford already had a recall because of this issue but mine was not included.

My 2020 ford escape's automatic transmission makes odd whirring sounds and shifts hard often while driving. Automatic transmission still has a hard time shifting smoothly even when the vehicles been warmed up and driven for at least 10 minutes. The rear view camera has a mind of its own and doesn't always work.
