You're also noticing a lingering gasoline smell after refueling and wondering about a potential fuel leak, plus experiencing poor fuel economy. I have been having issues with headlights on my vehicle for awhile. We have changed the bulbs several times to try to make it easier to see. The headlights barely light up the street in front of you and is very dangerous to drive like this. I looked up online and apparently I am not the only one that is complaining of the issue. This is extremely unsafe and I'm afraid to drive anywhere at night due to poor lighting. I see people changed bulbs and changed entire headlights costing $300.00 or more a light and the problem is still not resolved. I am very concerned for not only myself and my familie's safety, I am concerned for others safety too. Something needs to be corrected in these vehicles. It is an extremely important part of driving - being able to see in front of you. Please advise.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the door ajar warning light illuminated while none of the doors were opened. The contact stated that the failure persisted, causing the interior lights to remain illuminated while the vehicle was parked and turned off. The contact stated that the interior lights turned off after the battery was disconnected. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.
THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN A PORBLEM FROM DAY ONE. WE CHANGED THEM TO A BRIGHTER BULB AND WE CANT SEEM TO GET THEM ADJUSTED. DOOR AJAR HAS BEEN REPLACED ON THE RIGHT REAR AND NOW IS DOING THE SAME THING ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. NOW THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMS "HARD" WHEN WE PUSH IT AND I HAVE SEEN RECALLS FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER YET IT SHOWS OUR EDGE HAS NO RECALLS. WE WILL BE TAKING IT TO OUR MECHANIC TO BE CHECKED.

The dome lights won’t shut off when all the doors are shut
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED FOR THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. THE OVERHEAD LIGHT STAYS FOR 10 MINS OR SO WHEN ANY DOOR IS OPENED AND THEN CLOSED. THE DOOR AJAR ALARM WILL BEEP WHEN YOU START THE CAR AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE UNTIL YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THE ALARM AND THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON. THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHT. AT NIGHT IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO SEE TO BACK OUT YOUR VEHICLE. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY DIM AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT OR EARLY MORNING HOURS. I SEE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AND SALESMAN ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THESE ARE KNOWN FOR THIS BUT FORD WON'T STAND BEHIND IT. NOW I'M STRUGGLING TO FIND A WAY TO RESOLVE THIS.

UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO START THE VEHICLE AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF TO RESET THE INTERIOR LIGHTING TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

AS SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE STATED...I'M WAITING FOR THE DAY WHEN I GET IN THE CAR AND BATTERY IS DEAD AS WE CAN NOT TURN OFF LIGHTS ! JUST CALLED JIM CLICK FORD AND THEY HAVE FOUND NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM...THEREFORE I HAVE TO PAY OVER 500 DOLLARS TO FIX WEIRD HOW OVER 150O PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH VEHICLE BUT FORD DOESN'T THINK IT'S A PROBLEM. PLUS, THE DOOR AGAR SWITCH DINGS. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT DRIVING DURING THE NIGHTTIME WHEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF BECAUSE OF THIS DYSFUNCTIONAL SENSOR. PLUS, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK BECAUSE THE SENSOR READS INCORRECTLY. I RECENTLY ATTEMPTED TO LOCK MY DOORS BECAUSE I WAS AT A STOP-LIGHT IN A ROUGH PARTY OF TOWN, BUT THEY WOULD NOT LOCK BECAUSE THE SENSOR READS MY DRIVER'S DOOR AS "OPEN." I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.

IN ADDITION, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ALL OF THE DOORS UNLOCK WHEN THE DOOR AJAR WARNING ACTIVATES AND THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT IS ENABLED MAKING THE VEHICLE, IN MY OPION, UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND OCCUPY. THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAD I KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED ANY VEHICLE MADE BY FORD.I AM NOW AWARE THE PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND WIDELY KNOWN ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND THROUGH COMMENTS I HAVE READ ON VARIOUS CONSUMER WEBSITES. HOWEVER, JUST RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN STAYING ON LONGER AND HARDER TO GET TO GO OFF. IT HAS ALSO BEEN COMING ON WHEN DRIVING AND I HAVE TO PULLOVER TO TRY TO GET THIS TO TURN OFF. I CANNOT LOCK THE DOORS WHEN THIS HAPPENS CAUSING A VERY UNSAFE TRAVEL ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS STAYING ON. IF I HAD KIDS IN MY VEHICLE I WOULD FEEL THEY COULD OPEN THE DOORS DUE TO THIS FAILURE AND FALL OUT. WHEN DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENS THE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAUSES A GLARE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT! EVEN AFTER FORD DOES THEIR "CLEANING" TO THE DOOR IT STILL HAPPENS AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS. THE DOOR LATCH AND COMPONENTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED COMPLETELY TO HAVE THIS FIXED.
THE SENSOR FOR THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR KEEPS POPPING UP. I HAVE TO CLOSE THE DOOR NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE IT WILL ALLOW ME TO LOCK THE CAR. IF I DON'T THEN THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON. LEFT DOOR SENSOR/LATCH IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AFTER 65,000 MILES. AFFECTS DOOR LOCKS WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED. THE DOOR LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN INTERMITTENTLY AND UNEXPECTANTLY. AFFECTS OVERHEAD LIGHTING AND THE REMOTE START. DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE DOORS NOT LOCKED ESPECIALLY IF YOUNG KIDS ARE IN BACK SEAT.

FORD DEALERSHIPS SAY ITS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR NEW AND USED VEHICLES AND I OPENED UP A CASE WITH FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO OFFSET THE COSTS TO FIX IT. THEY JUST SAY KEEP YOUR RECEIPT IN CASE THEY EVER DO A RECALL. THERE IS A PETITION ON LINE BECAUSE IT AFFECTS SO MANY PEOPLE. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS TO AVOID LAWSUITS! FORD EDGE 2013 ERROR CODE "DOOR AJAR" WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON WHILE PARKED OR DRIVING WHEN THE DOOR WAS ACTUALLY CLOSED. DOOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPEATEDLY CLOSED IN ORDER TO MAKE THE "DOOR AJAR" ERROR GO AWAY. "DOOR AJAR" ERROR WOULD COME BACK EVEN IF THE DOOR WAS CLOSED SUCCESSFULLY WITHOUT THE ERROR BEFORE. WHILE DRIVING, "DOOR AJAR" WARNING WOULD SOUND OFF TRIGGERING DASHBOARD LIGHTS WHICH WOULD STARTLE THE DRIVER AND CAUSE A SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED, "DOOR AJAR" ERROR WOULD PREVENT LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE FROM TURNING OFF. "DOOR AJAR" ERROR WOULD PREVENT THE DOORS FROM BEING LOCKED VIA REMOTE OR LOCK BUTTON IN THE CAR.
CAR DOOR SENSOR ON DRIVER'S SIDE NO LONGER REGISTERING THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED. LIGHTS REMAIN ON, WARNING MESSAGE CONSTANTLY FLASHES, AND MESSAGE TO SHIFT TO PARK WITH WARNING CHIME GOES OFF EVERY TIME I STOP THE VEHICLE, AND THE CAR DOES WILL NOT LOCK.
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN DEC. 2013 AND AS OF TODAY HAS 54,500 MILES ON IT. AS OF TODAY IT HAS NOW GONE THROUGH 2 HEADLIGHT BULBS, ONE FOR EACH SIDE. THE FIRST WAS JAN. 2016 AND THE SECOND YESTERDAY. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE WAY THE HEADLIGHT HIGH/LOW BEAM SYSTEM IS MADE IN THE EDGE. A SINGLE BULB IS USED FOR BOTH HIGH AND LOW BEAM. WHEN THE DRIVER SWITCHES TO HIGH BEAM THE ENTIRE BULB SOCKED OR LIGHT HOUSING IS COMMANDED UP. THIS IS NOTICEABLE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITH A LOUD BUMP FROM THE HEADLIGHT AREA. I BELIEVE THE FORCE OF THIS MOVEMENT CONTRIBUTES TO THE SHORTENED LIFE OF THE BULBS. IF DRIVING AT NIGHT IT'S POSSIBLE BOTH BULBS COULD BE BROKEN WHEN SWITCHING FROM LOW TO HIGH BEAM. SHOULD THIS OCCUR AT NIGHT IT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH DUE TO LOSS OF VISIBILITY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT IS ON AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE DOOR IS DOOR IS SHUT. THE DOME LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN DRIVING AND FREQUENT FLASHING LIGHTS ON THE DASH WARN THAT THE DRIVERS DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS NOT. THIS IS A HAZARD WHEN DRIVING AND VERY DISTRACTING. THIS STARTED HERE AND THERE ON 2/29 AND IS CONSTANT SINCE 3/7. THE MILEAGE OF THE CAR IS AROUND 65,000

THE DRIVER DOOR SENSOR (WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT TIGHTLY AND SECURED) KEEPS TURNING INTERIOR LIGHTS ON WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. GUESS WHAT ELSE HAPPENS? MY DOORS WILL NOT LOCK BECAUSE OF THIS SENSOR. THAT IS ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE SAFETY SPECTRUM. IF THIS OCCURS BOTH DRIVING AND WHILE CAR IS NOT IN MOTION, HOW DOES FORD VALUE THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS? HOPEFULLY BY TAKING THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND MAKE THEIR CUSTOMERS HAPPY. THIS IS DISAPPOINTING, AS WELL AS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING EVERY SINGLE DAY.
SENSOR ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE DOORS NOT TO LOCK, AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS NOT TO GO OFF WHEN IT IS LOCKED. THIS ULTIMATELY DRAINED THE BATTERY AND LEFT MY WIFE STRANDED.
WHEN TAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ILLUMINATION TO THE SIDE DURING THE ACTUAL TURN UNTIL COMPLETED ON RURAL ROADS WITH NO LIGHTING. THE EXPERIENCE IS LIKE TURNING INTO A BLACK HOLE UNTIL FRONT WHEELS ARE BACK STRAIGHT. ROAD SIDES WITH ADJACENT DITCHES OR ANYTHING IN THE ROAD LIKE PEOPLE OR ANIMALS WILL NOT BE SEEN, A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. LOW BEAM ILLUMINATION IS NOT THAT GOOD UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES; IT LIKE DRIVING WITH TWO VERY NARROW BEAM FIXED FLASHLIGHTS. LAST WEEK I ALMOST MISSED A TURN ON AN UNFAMILIAR ROAD BY JUST MISSING RUNNING INTO A DITCH CLOSE TO THE ROADSIDE AT ITS' INTERSECTION.

WE WERE INVOLVED IN A FOUR CAR CRASH. WE WERE THE THIRD CAR. THE TRAFFIC WAS A LITTLE HEAVY AND STOP AND GO. THE TWO CARS IN FRONT OF US STOPPED FAST AND WE DID TOO. THEN WE LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW A HONDA ODYSSEY COMING AT US AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH. THE DRIVER SLAMMED INTO THE REAR OF OUR CAR. THE CAR STARTED ON FIRE AS SOON AS WE WERE HIT. I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND I COULD SEE THE FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR. MY HUSBAND JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND I COULDN'T OPEN MY DOOR. MY HUSBAND THEN HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON HIS SIDE AND THEN CAME AROUND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND GOT ME OUT OF THE CAR. I WAS CRYING AND TERRIFIED. A BUSINESS MAN CAME FROM ACROSS THE STREET AND TRIED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. HE HAD TO RETURN BACK TO HIS BUSINESS AND OUR NEW CAR WAS STILL ON FIRE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED AWAY. I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. I WAS SORE FROM WHERE THE SEATBELT WAS AND FROM BEING SO BADLY JERKED BACK AND FORTH. I AM STILL RECEIVING SOME MEDICAL CARE. THE DRIVER OF THE HONDA ODYSSEY WAS FOUND AT FAULT AND ISSUED A TICKET. WE HAVE YET TO FIND OUT WHY THIS CAR STARTED ON FIRE.
