FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013, and equipped with 2.0L engines. The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel pump. The contact was informed that the fuel pump and fuel lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine and ABS warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle started to jerk while driving. The contact stated that once the vehicle while driving at speed, there was an abnormal thumping sound coming from the vehicle. The check engine and ABS warning lights were intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the contact self-diagnosed the vehicle with fuel pump and power train failure. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
The fuel tank has a crack in the top causing fuel leaking when the tank is full. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. cost to replace the tank is approximately 3000$
I've had bad gas mileage since I got vehicle 10 months ago. I had 19 miles left when I parked my Edge after having brake booster replaced on 2/15/24 13N02, to wake up with 0 miles left??? I've been getting 15 MPG? That's easy country driving, now my gas is disappearing. I believe it's same problem as fuel leak recall 14V-002/13513. The 2013 Fordm Edge should be a buy back do to so many manufacturers errors.
After filling up the vehicle to the "first click" at the gas station and driving home, noticed strong fuel odor in garage. Next trip noticed a puddle of fuel under the fuel tank and dripping fuel from vehicle. Issue goes away after driving about 75 miles. Next fill up, purposely kept fuel level no higher than about 3/4 tank do not currently have the issue. Am not filling the vehicle to full any longer. No check engine light indicated, even after driving over 300 miles.
I have filed a complaint several Times regarding my car. After several times (3) times of getting my fuel valve replaced it is having issues again. This probably has given me incorrect gas milage and has lost power on me going down the road mid drive with 2 kids in the back seat almost causing an accident. This is unacceptable and as soon as something happens there will be a lawsuit. I have replaced this part 3-4 times now and still getting codes and having my car just randomly loose power and shut off. Something needs to be done about the purge valve malfunctioning system on these cars before someone like myself and kids get extremely hurt.
I took my car in for routine oil change and was told that my car had needed the PTU transfer case unit fixed. They told me it was leaking and it would soon stop my car from operating. I looked into this and found the same recall was done for other vehicles but not mine! I am sure my vehicle was missed during this recall because the exact same is happening to my car!!!! This is NHTSA Campaign ID 14V002000. This recall was done on 01/06/2014. There are also other recalls I believe my vehicle is eligible for that my vehicle was not recalled. This process should be a priority to get correct and it is embarrassing I am having to go through this. I hope someone is able to remedy this as I believe this is a manufacturer defect, that I deserve to have compensated for.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel line pulse damper metal housing was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
Check engine light turned on while accelerating. When light first came on it cause the car to stall while driving. Had to pull over and turn the car off. Went and had the codes read the code was an EVAP leak. Was told it was the gas cap leak. Gas tank is an easy fuel tank. After research I do believe this issue is associated with NHTSA Campaign: 14v002000

2013 EDGE SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION AT ANYTIME. GOING 75 DOWN THE INTERSTATE OR 30MPH THROUGH TOWN. MUST PULL TO SHOULDER IF ROAD SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART. VERY DANGEROUS.
2013 FORD EDGE FWD. SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION IN INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO SHOULDER OF ROAD.
CHECK FUEL INLET CAME ON. THEN ENGINE LIGHT SEVERAL DAYS LATER. THE GAS GAUGE WILL NOT READ THE LEVEL OF GAS. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON. THE DEALER SAID IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER EMISSONS. AND IT SURE IS. THESE FUMES ARE GETRING IN THE AIR. AND THE VALVE IS NOT WORKING CAUSING THE GAS CAN TO GET METAL WHICH WILL IN TURN TEAR THIS UP .

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RAYMOND CHEVROLET (118 IL-173, ANTIOCH, IL 60002, (800) 989-5939) WHERE THEY STATED THERE WAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE FUEL PUMP MODULE, FILLER HOLE, AND FUEL TANK, WHICH WERE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHICH RESULTED IN A DISPUTE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR WAS DAMAGED BY THE MECHANIC. THE DEALER THREATENED TO CHARGE THE CONTACT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
MY VEHICLE SHUTTERS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN.MOVING IN.MOTION. THEN WARNING.COMES ON CHECK FUEL INLET WHILE IN.MOTION. THEN MOMENTS PASS AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY AND IN DRIVE. THEN I PANIC.
FUEL FILLER NECK CONTINUES TO CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. CHECK FUEL INLET MESSAGE ALSO APPEARS ON DASH. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL NOT SURE AS TO WHY MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED.
FUEL LEAK PUT GAS AND FIVE MINUTES LATER THE TANK IS HALF EMPTY
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO VEHICLE SERVICE STATION AND CODE P0299 CAME UP. THAT IS THE CODE TO REPLACE TURBOCHARGER ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 100K MILES. THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE COMING UP ON A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT THAT OLD
DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND A WRENCH ICON LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY AND ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD FIND NO TROUBLE CODES AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN AT AROUND 45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY.
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. HAD IT HOOKED UP TO THE MACHINE AND IT IS SAYING GAS CAP. IT DOES NOT HAVE A GAS CAP
FUEL IS LEAKING WHEN PUMPING GAS AND SMELL OF GAS IN THE CABIN?
PTO UNIT HAS BEGUN LEAKING OIL. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE THAT FORD REFUSES TO ADDRESS. THE UNIT HAS NOT FAILED AS OF YET, BUT ALL RESEARCH SHOWS THAT I WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE CRITICAL REPAIRS PERFORMED OR I MIGHT FACE A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS ISSUE IS NOT REPAIRABLE AS THE UNIT IS A MAINTENANCE FREE PART AND HAS NO ABILITY TO BE MAINTAINED BY NORMAL REPAIR PROCESSES.
ENGINE LIGHT ON, DIAGNOSTIC TEST SHOWS GAS VAPOR ESCAPING (LEAK) CODE P0456 WHILE DRIVING

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V002000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
SMELLING GAS INSIDE OF CAR AND ALSO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON THAT STATES CHECK FUEL FILL INLET
8/11/2018 I CAME UPON STOPPED TRAFFIC WITH NOT ENOUGH TIME TO DECELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY HIT MY BRAKES, BUT REARENDED A PICKUP TRUCK. THE TRUCK FLIPPED OVER ON ITS PASSENGER SIDE. I CONTINUED TRAVELING AND WENT ON THE EMBANKMENT. AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I NOTICED FRONT PASSENGER SIDE IN FLAMES. PASSERSBY GOT BOTH OF US OUT. BUT THE CAR WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. IT HAPPENED ON INTERSTATE.
I WAS TRAVELING ON HWY 441 UP A STEEP HILL AND TRIED TO PASS A TRUCK.THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER CAR. ON JUNE 7, 2018 BETWEEN ENTERPRISE, AL. AND MONTGOMERY AL. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LEGALLY PASS ANOTHER CAR AND THE CAR AGAIN COMPLETELY LOST POWER ALMOT CAUSING A FRONT END COLLISION WITH ANOTHER CAR AT 65 MILES AN HOUR. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF FORD DOES NOT FIX MY CAR. I HOPE IT IS NOT YOUR FAMILY.
THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED A THROTTLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MILES DOWN A ROAD AND SUDDENLY A THRUST OF ACCELERATION JUMPED THE VEHICLE AND THEN EVEN WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES THE CAR THRUST FORWARD SO I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND IT STOPPED, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN I FLOORED THE BRAKE BUT STILL THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP AND THEN PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR STOPPED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS TO INDICATE AN ISSUE.

2013 FORD EDGE WITH 82,638 MILES, YELLOW WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING, " CHECK FUEL FILL INLET" I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS TIME OPENING AND CLOSING THE GAS CAP COVER WITH NO RESULTS. MY SUV CAME WITH NO GAS CAP. PROBLEM CONTINUE TO PERSIST EVEN WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.
I HAVE A STRONG SMELL OF GAS FUMES INSIDE MY CAR WHILE DRIVING
2013 FORD EDGE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE MAY RESULT IN A FIRE. LEAVING THE RESIDENCE. ONCE PASSED THE CONTROL OF THE SECURITY AGENT OF THE RESIDENCE. I ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY AND THEN HEAR A RATHER DEAFENING NOISE. I STOP THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AND PROCESS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE QUICKLY AS I FEEL THE BODY WARM. ONCE I GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND RUN TO A SAFE PLACE ABOUT 40 FEET AWAY, I THROW MYSELF ON THE GROUND AND LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND SEE THAT THE VEHICLE IS BURNING. I CAN SEE THAT THE FIRE IS CONSUMING THE VEHICLE AND CAN OBSERVE FIRE INSIDE THE VEHICLE COMING OUT OF THE WINDOWS AND FIRE THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE THAT GOES FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE DOWN THE SIDE. AND THE FIRE RUNS TO THE GAS TANK.
MY 2013 FORD EDGE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS LOSES ALL ENGINE POWER. THE RPM'S DROP TO ABOUT 600 AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR HAS NO EFFECT ON THE RPM'S. THE 5 TIMES IT HAPPENED DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2016 I WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 40 TO 50 MPH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST TO THE NEAREST SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE POTENTIAL FOR A CATASTROPHIC INCIDENT IS OBVIOUS.

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT FUEL LEAKED FROM A FUEL LINE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000. UPDATED 01/10/17*LJ CONSUMER STATED SHE COULD SMELL GASOLINE COMING THROUGH HEAT VENTS WHEN SHE OUT OF THE CAR COULD SMELL GAS OUTSIDE FRONT END OF CAR. HUSBAND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND GAS SPEWING FROM A HOSE ON TOP OF THE MOTOR ON TO EXHAUST MANIFOLD. LOUISBURG FORD CHARGED $600.00 TO FIX THE DEFECT SAYING THERE WAS NO RECALL AND WOULDN'T COVER COST OF REPAIR AND NOT CONCERNED OF POSSIBLE OUT COME IF THIS CAUSED EXPLOSION. UPDATED 6/25/18*JB
THREE OCCURRENCES: DRIVING 30 MPH, ALL FORWARD MOVEMENT STOPPED. ENGINE WRENCH CAME ON, NO POWER, NO RPM, NO RESPONSE. HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC (COASTING) TO PREVENT US BEING T-BONED IN THE INTERSECTION. NEXT : DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. SAME THING HAPPENED, ALL POWER STOPPED, NEARLY RUN OVER BY AN 18 WHEELER. HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. THIRD : THE VERY NEXT DAY, SAME THING HAPPENED ON A COUNTRY ROAD. NO TRAFFIC. NO NEAR MISS THIS TIME. HAD IT FIXED AT FORD THE FOLLOWING DAY. COST NEARLY $250. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT FORD HAS REPLACED 1.6 MILLION ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODIES. THIS NEEDS RECALLED. I'M FIGHTING FORD FOR A REFUND THAT I PAID FOR. I HAD TO HAVE MY FAMILY SAFE. PLEASE HIT FORD HARD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I THINK THEY'VE HAD A RECALL ON FUSION / ESCAPE. WHY NOT EDGE. I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY EDGE VEHICLES HAVE HAD ETB REPLACED.
DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WHEN IT WAS GREEN WE GOT UP TO ABOUT 45 MPH, THE CAR STARTED SPUTTERING WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER INTO THE TURN LANE. WE COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER. DEALER ADVISED FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS A KNOWN ISSUE.
MY CAR WOULD JUST CUT OFF LOOSING ALL POWER. NO BRAKES NO STEERING! MOSTLY AT SLOW OR IDOL SPEEDS, TURNING INTO TRAFFIC THIS WAS A LARGE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT THROUGH GOOGLE SEARCHING IT IS A LARGE PROBLEM FOR FORD. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FORD NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IF IT HASN'T ALREADY HAPPENED.
ON OCTOBER 20, 2015 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER. ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN VERY ROUGH, SPUTTERING. ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT MAKE THE CAR SPEED UP OR INCREASE RPM. "WRENCH" SYMBOL POPPED ON.GOT CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. WHILE WAITING TO HEAR ON CAR, RESEARCHED SYMPTOMS AND FOUND MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT PROBABLY IS THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILURE. DEALERSHIP HAD CAR 2 DAYS, COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM SO THEY DID NOTHING. SERVICE REP TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILURE AND TO WAIT FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEN BRING IT IN. SAID IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND THEN WOULD HAPPEN MORE OFTEN. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND DON'T KNOW WHY THIS PART HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THIS CAR WAS MY DREAM CAR AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH A NIGHTMARE. I WANT FORD TO RECALL OR DO A "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN" AND REPLACE THE PART SO I CAN HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I CAN DRIVE CONFIDENTLY. I FEEL THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE AND COULD BE DEADLY. FORD, STAND BY ME!
VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY GO TO IDLE. AT ANY SPEED, I WAS RECENTLY MAKING A LEFT TURN THROUGH TRAFFIC AND IT DIED. TROUBLE CODES ARE P2111, AND P2112. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE REST OF THE FORDS THAT HAD THE RECALL. THE FORD DEALER I CALLED ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM, BUT SAID IT WOULD BE $1000 TO FIX. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS VERY OFTEN, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED FOR THE FORD EDGE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE!
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED: I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, WHEN THE CAR PRETTY WELL JUST SHUT DOWN. IT DID NOT GO INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS STOPPED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WITH NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO ONCOMING VEHICLES AT THIS TIME. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT, AND IT WENT LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. UNFORTUNATELY ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS AND THE SUCH WENT OFF ON RESTART. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD HOUSE HERE. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THE COMPUTER DID NOT HAVE ANY ERROR CODES. SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AT THIS TIME IT DID IT HIGHLY INTERMITTENTLY AND FAR BETWEEN EACH TIME. SO IT WENT ON LIKE THAT FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR. IT GOT TO THE POINT THOUGH YOU COULDNT DRIVE ANYWHERE WITH OUT IT HAPPENING. I WOULDN'T EVEN LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE CAR, DUE TO THIS ISSUE OR MY KIDS TO RIDE IN IT. RECENTLY IT STARTED DOING IT ALOT MORE OFTEN. SO, FINALLY I COULD TAKE IT TO THE FORD HOUSE AND THEY COULD REPLICATE IT. TOOK IT OVER TO THE SHOP THIS MORNING, DROVE 15 MILES AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN 7 TIMES IN TRAFFIC. FINALLY AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF OF BEING UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, IT DID IT WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING IT. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CULPRIT. I KNEW IT, THEY KNEW IT, ALL ALONG AND REFUSED TO FIX IT. NOW THEY HAD TO FIX IT. FIGURED IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THROTTLE BODY FAILURES. NOPE, I HAD TO SHELL OUT $600 FOR A PART THAT FORD AND THE NHTSA KNEW WAS A BAD PART.
THE VEHICLE STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT MOVE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY. THE CHECK ENGINE WRENCH WAS ILLUMINATED. AFTER MANAGING TO FINALLY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING HIT, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN RAN FINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. EACH TIME I WENT TO THE DEALER BUT NO CODE WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER. FINALLY THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT REPEATED. DEALER SAID IT WAS A KNOW PROBLEM WHICH IS WHY THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO STORED ENGINE CODE AFTER REPEATED INCIDENTS. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM IF IT HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE!
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE I SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND STALLED. I HAD TO GET IT REPLACED COSTING 800. IF CONDITIONS WOULD OF BEEN DIFFERENT, OTHERS TO INCLUDE MYSELF COULD OF GOTTEN HURT OR KILLED.
WOKE UP SUN MORNING OPENED BASEMENT DOOR SMELLED THE ODOR OF GASOLINE OPENED DOOR TO GARAGE HEAVY ODOR OF GASOLINE REMOVED CAR FROM GARAGE SAW DRIPPING OF GASOLINE FROM GAS TANK CALLED FIRE DEPT THEY CAME PUT DOWN GASOLINE ABSORBENT AND SAID SMALL LEEK COMING FROM GAS TANK NOTHING THEY CAN DO TOLD TO CALL TOWING AND REMOVE CAR MON AAA REMOVED CAR AND TOOK TO FORD DEALER WEISLANDER FORD IN POINT PLEASANT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY APPROX. $5000 TO HAVE IT FIXED AND IT WOULD TAKE 4 MONTHS BEFORE THEY WOULD RECEIVE THE TANK FROM A FRIEND I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2012 & 2013 FORD EDGE GAS TANKS I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT VIN# WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST AND THE HOLE WAS CAUSED BY ME MY WIFE WHO DRIVES THIS CAR SAID SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IF YOU HIT AN OBJECT ON THE ROAD YOU WOULD ONLY GET A SMALL DRIP FROM THE GAS TANK

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHOM PERFORMED AN INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THAT A STRONG FUEL ODOR WAS PENETRATING THROUGH THE VENTS. THE DEALER SEALED THE GRILL AIR INLET AREA AND THE VENT AIR FILTERS WERE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE FAILURE THE ONE YEAR OLD PASSENGER SUFFERED ASTHMA CONDITION AND THE CONTACT SUFFERED THROAT IRRITATION WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,010.

THE DRIVER SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES AND A POLICE A REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO A DISLODGED FUEL LINE AND A COMPROMISED FIREWALL. THE FIRE WAS IGNITED BY THE FUEL LEAK THAT CAME FROM UNDER THE CARRIAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. IN VIEW OF ALL THE CARS BEING RECALLED FOR FAILURE OF WHAT WOULD APPEAR TO BE RELATIVELY SIMPLE DEVICES, IT OCCURS TO ME THAT I SHOULD REPORT THIS INCIDENT, IN CASE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC ON A FOUR-LANE DIVIDED CITY STREET IN ATLANTA, GA, ON 3/17/13, A SUNDAY AFTERNOON, WITHOUT WARNING OF ANY KIND, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED. OF COURSE, I HAD NO POWER OR POWER STEERING, BUT FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY (FORTUNATELY THERE WAS A SHOULDER). THE FORD EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE SENT A TOW TRUCK, WHICH TOWED THE CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. FOUND THAT THE FUEL SENDER HAD BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FUEL PUMP. OF COURSE, WITHOUT FUEL, THE ENGINE STOPPED. THEY RE-ATTACHED THE SENDER, AND I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEM. EVERYTHING WAS HANDLED PROMPTLY AND PROPERLY BY FORD. THERE WAS NO CHARGE, OF COURSE, AS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED JUST FIVE MINUTES EARLIER, I WAS IN THE INSIDE LANE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY (I-285) GOING 70 MPH. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE CAR TO SAFETY ACROSS FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER - OR ELSE STOP IN THE INSIDE LANE I WAS IN AND PRAY I DIDN'T GET HIT BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK CAME. A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO A POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM. I DOUBT THAT ANY ROUTINE TESTING OR MAINTENANCE WOULD HAVE REVEALED THIS POTENTIAL DETACHMENT. THE CONTACT STATED SINCE THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED IN JANUARY OF 2014, THERE SHOULD BE A REMEDY AVAILABLE BEFORE APRIL OF 2014. HAVE NOTED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE ODOR OF FUEL/GASOLINE IN CLOSED CAB OF 2013 FORD EDGE AFTER STARTING VEHICLE. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME I START VEHICLE, BUT APPROX 10% OF STARTS IT DOES. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER TWICE AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NO FUEL LEAK. WELL, I HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE GASOLINE ODOR MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THEY CHECKED IT. MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WILL SOON EXPIRE AND I GET THE IMPRESSION WITH THE RUN AROUND I HAVE BEEN GETTING THAT FORD DOES NOT TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUS ENOUGH TO TRY A LITTLE HARDER TO FIND THE SOURCE AND FIX IT. CAR STOPPED RUNNING AS MY WIFE,DAUGHTER,AND MYSELF WERE ON OUR WAY HOME. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HWY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE CAR RESTARTED AND WE CONTINUED HOME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND LEFT IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE SERVICE REP. I SPOKE WITH SAID THEY COULD FIND NO TROUBLE CODE AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I ASKED IF HE HAD SPOKEN WITH FORD ENGINEERING ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID NO. I ASKED HIM TO AND HE SAID HE WOULD. HE CALLED FORD ENGINEERING AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO SOLUTION AND DENIED A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD TO RETURN MY LOANER CAR. I DID SO .A DIFFERENT SERVICE REP. WAITED ON ME THIS TIME.WHEN HE BROUGHT ME THE CAR HE ASKED IF MY PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND I SAID NO .HE ASKED ME THE PROBLEM AND I TOLD HIM.HE THEN TOLD ME THAT HE HAD A LADY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HER CAR,A 2012 FORD EDGE. HE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY TOLD HIM TO CHANGE PROGRAMMING. THEY DID THIS TWO TIMES AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.SHE THEN TRADED THE CAR WITH 32000 MI. ON IT FOR A NEW VEHICLE. I TALKED WITH SEVERAL FORD REPS AND FOR THE MOST PART SEEMED UNCONCERNED. I EXPRESSED MY SAFETY CONCERNS TO THEM TO NO AVAIL. I WAS TREATED AS COLLATERAL DAMAGE. *TR
