CAR SHUTS DOWN RANDOMLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND IS LIFE THREATENING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, A LOUD ABNORMAL, TICKING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE NOISE ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND LASTED AT LEAST ONE MINUTE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CARL BLACK CHEVROLET (11500 E COLONIAL DRIVE, ORLANDO, FL 32817, 888-449-6517) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW BLENDER ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
2ND AIR INJECTION CHECK & SHUT OFF VALVE HAS FAILED FOR THE 3RD TIME ON THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED A FRIEND OF MINE AT GM AND A GLOBAL TECHNICAL SPECIALIST IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS/HEAT SHIELDS/SAI DIVISION OF THE GENERAL MOTORS GLOBAL PROPULSION SYSTEMS STATED THAT THERE WAS A CORROSION DURABILITY CONCERN WITH THIS PART THAT RESULTED IN ELEVATED WARRANTY. THERE IS NOW A IMPROVED SERVICE PN AVAILABLE THAT REPLACES THE PN THAT HAVE BEEN USED IN MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD RECALL THESE BAD PARTS AND REFUND US FOR THEM. EACH TIME THIS PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THE COST IS OVER $400 TO ME. MY FIRST REPLACEMENT PART WENT ON 1-30-13 AT 46737 MILES. THE 2ND REPLACEMENT PART WENT ON 7-8-14 AT 71368 MILES. NOW THE 3RD REPLACEMENT PART NEEDS TO GO ON AT 115429 MILES. THE 1ST REPLACEMENT PART COST ME $567 TO REPLACE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE 2ND REPLACEMENT PART COST ME $478 TO REPLACE AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. IT WILL COST ME THE SAME OR A LITTLE MORE TO GET THIS REPLACED FOR THE 3RD TIME. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP ME?

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY IMPALA, WITH NO WARNING, MY CAR LOST POWER. THE DASH BEEPED AT ME AND SAID REDUCED ENGINE POWER, SERVICE STALINKTRAK, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. I HAD TO TURN MY CAR OFF, I WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN TURNED CAR BACK ON. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO RUN AND DRIVE AFTER THIS, BUT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD VEHICLE COMPUTER SCANNED AND HAD A CODE FOR THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE LEARNED I WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY. MY CAR HAS NOW LOST POWER SEVERAL TIMES AND MY RPM GAUGE 'BOUNCES'. I WILL BE PARKING MY CAR UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU LOSE ALL POWER WITH NO WARNING GOING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND IT SAYS SERVICE STABILITRAK REDUCED POWER ENGINE. THEN THE CAR SLOWS, IT MAY JERK, OR STALL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. I'VE TAKEN IT TO BE LOOKED AT LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES. I'VE BEEN TOLD THEY DON'T SEE ANYTHING AND I SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN TO GET SERVICED THE LIGHT COMES ON. IT USUALLY LAST A FEW DAYS BUT IT WILL COME BACK ON. I'VE ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET ABOUT FIXING IT BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET SERVICED I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD TO BE UNDER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD CAUSE A POTENTIAL CAR ACCIDENT OR EVEN DEATH IF TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR CAR ENGINE REDUCES POWER. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE DUE TO THIS ISSUE.

THROTTLE ARM REPLACED FOR THIRD TIME
DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, TRACTION CONTROL WARNING CAME ON, THEN A WARNING THAT ENGINE POWER REDUCED, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN FROM 65 TO 0 IN ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID GETTING HIT, AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND GET GOING AGAIN FINALLY, BUT WAS VERY NERVOUS TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAD MY GRANDCHILD IN THE CAR WITH ME AND CARS WERE BEHIND ME. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TO THE CAR COULD HAVE ENDED UP TRAGICALLY.
I WAS DRIVING AND MY CARS ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 1ST THEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. WHEN THEY CAME ON IT REDUCED POWER TO MY ENGINE AND QUIT ON THE INTERSTATE. I HAD LOOKED UP POSSIBLE CAUSES WHEN I HAD A TEST RAN IT WAS SHOWING THROTTLE BODY I REPLACED IT AND IT NEVER FIXED IT UPON RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE PEOPLE WHO OWNS IMPALAS FROM THE YEARS 2009 AND UP HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND FEEL IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. WHAT I HAVE FOUND IDK YET I AM WAITING ON THE PIECE TO SEE IF THIS IS THE ISSUE OR NOT IS THE PEDAL SENSOR COULD BE THE CAUSE. BUT I FEEL IT CAN BE UNSAFE BECAUSE MY CAR HAD QUIT ON A BUSY INTERSTATE WITH CARS TRAVELING AT THE SPEED OF 65MPH AND HIGHER. MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, ALL OF THE SUDDEN THESE MESSAGES STARTED TO APPEAR ON THE MESSAGE CENTER. ENGINE POWER HAS BEEN REDUCED, SOMETHING ABOUT TRACTION CONTROL AND ANOTHER MESSAGE THAT I CAN NOT REMEMBER. THE CAR THEN LOST ALL POWER, IT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. WE DID MAKE IT OVER TO THE "SLOW" LANE, BUT THERE WE SAT ON THE INTERSTATE WITH TRAFFIC ALL AROUND US. THE CAR WOULD NOT START!!! NEED LESS TO MY GIRLS AND MY SELF WERE TERRIFIED THAT WE WOULD BE HIT. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE CAR DID START AGAIN AND WE MADE IT TO OUR DESTINATION. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS RUNNING OR NOT THE ACTUATORS TO THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEATING UNIT START CLICKING AND MAKING A LOUD NOISE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WILL STOP. I WENT AND HAD IT CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST BETWEEN 500 AND 600 DOLLARS TO FIX. IN ANY EVENT I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO OWN IMPALAS AND THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MY SISTER WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. SHE HAD TO TAKE HER CAR BACK TWICE BEFORE IT WAS REPAIRED CORRECTLY. APPARENTLY THE COMPUTER CHIP IN THESE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE CLICKING NOISE HAPPENS EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS SITTING IN THE GARAGE AND IT IS STORMING OUTSIDE. I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY OUT OF POCKET MONEY FROM THE CONSUMER. AFTER ALL THE TAXPAYERS DID BAIL YOU OUT. *TR

THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, BUT NOW IT'S A LOT MORE FREQUENT. THIS SATURDAY I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 ON A THREE LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDER/BREAK DOWN LANE. THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS GOING UP A HILL. CARS WERE FLYING UP BEHIND ME AND SWERVING TO MISS ME. NORMALLY IT TAKES ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND YOU CAN RESTART THE CAR. THIS TIME IT WAS ALMOST 10 MINUTES. I HAD A PANIC ATTACK SITTING THERE. ONCE THE CAR FINALLY STARTED I DROVE ABOUT 50 FEET AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. LUCKILY THERE WAS A DUNKIN DONUTS THERE AND I COASTED INTO THE PARKING LOT. I SAT THERE ABOUT 20 MINUTES SO I COULD CATCH MY BREATH, STOP CRYING AND COMPOSED MYSELF. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO THEY SAID IT WAS MY GAS PEDAL, AND IT WAS GOING TO COST $164. HOWEVER WHEN YOU RESEARCH THIS ON THE WEB, YOU WILL SEE MOST PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE GAS PEDAL FIXED IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THERE SHOULD REALLY BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE SOMEONE WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND PERHAPS GET KILLED. *TR

I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP, BUT I WASN'T ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND IT CAUSED A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I'VE READ ONLINE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH IMPALA'S AND SOMETHING THAT IS A DESIGN FLAW, AS THE SHUTTING DOWN OF THE CAR IS NOT NEEDED. I OWN A 2010 IMPALA WITH WHAT SEEMS TO BE A WIRING PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. WHEN I GOOGLE THE PROBLEM TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG IT SEEMS OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE IMPALA. THE PROBLEM CAUSES THE CAR TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT SHUTS OFF, IT JUST DIES RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FIRST THE TRACTION LIGHT WILL COME ON A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THEN YOUR CAR WILL SAY SOMETHING LIKE SHUTTING DOWN, THEN IT WILL JUST TURN OFF. THIS IS VERY SCARY. IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, ISN'T IT A MATTER THAT CHEVY SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL? I CAN'T IMAGINE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO MOST CARS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. THEY SEEM TO HAVE A FEATURE THAT SHUTS DOWN THE POWER IF THE CAR THINGS IT IS LOSING CONTROL OF THE TIRES, BUT THE PROBLEM IS, THE TIRES ARE FINE BUT THE SENSOR IS MESSED UP.
