Filed: Mar 2026

While driving at 45 mph, your car suddenly lost all engine power and stalled, which caused the power steering and brake assist to stop working—making the vehicle extremely difficult to control. A diagnostic test showed your 12V battery was failing with only 37% charge capacity, which triggered the electrical system failure. Your dealership has not provided a full diagnostic report or identified the root cause despite your request, and your car has been out of service for over 20 days. The fix will likely involve replacing the 12V battery and investigating why it failed so early on a new vehicle.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your 2025 BMW X3 experienced a complete engine shutdown and loss of power while driving at 35 mph in traffic, triggered by a "drivetrain malfunction" warning. This is the third occurrence of the same problem—it happened twice shortly after you purchased the vehicle in June 2025 and was supposedly repaired by the dealer, but the issue has now recurred. You were stranded in traffic with a child passenger, creating a safety hazard, and the vehicle required towing. The underlying cause remains unknown, though BMW technical support was involved in the previous repair attempt. Diagnosis will require the dealer to connect diagnostic equipment and perform a complete electrical and powertrain system inspection to identify the root cause.

Filed: Nov 2025

When you started your car, you received a warning message about changed steering effort, and the power steering stopped working entirely, making the car undrivable. Your dealer has indicated this is a known issue that may require replacing the steering rack.

Your car makes a deep grinding noise when you turn the steering wheel while parking, parked, or driving off. The dealer has attempted repairs by replacing the tie rods during three service visits, but the problem continues. This noise could indicate wear or damage in your steering system's bearings, bushings, or assembly components, and continuing to drive with this noise may stress other parts. A complete steering system inspection and possible replacement of additional steering components may be necessary to resolve the issue.

Forward Collision Avoidance2 issues
criticalFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
CrashFiled: Sep 2025

Your Forward Collision Avoidance system may have activated too late to prevent a crash when a car ahead braked suddenly. According to BMW's data review, the system engaged only a split second before impact, which you didn't notice in time to avoid hitting the other vehicle. The repair parts needed to fix your car appear to be unavailable from BMW, leaving your vehicle at the body shop with no estimated delivery date for replacements.

CrashFiled: Jun 2025

Your 2025 BMW X3's rear collision warning and automatic braking system failed to alert you or apply brakes before a rear-end accident. A trailer hitch was recently installed on the vehicle, which required removing and reinstalling the rear bumper fascia that houses sensors for this safety system. Although the bumper was reinstalled in its original position and no warning lights appeared, the system did not provide any audible, visual, or brake warnings during the collision. BMW is investigating whether the trailer hitch installation affected the rear collision mitigation system's performance.

Back Over Prevention2 issues
criticalBACK OVER PREVENTION
CrashFiled: Jun 2025

Your BMW's parking assist feature (which automatically controls steering and braking along a preset path) may fail to engage if the car is still rolling slowly when you press the start button, even if you're pressing the brake pedal. The system showed a confirmation message suggesting the feature was active when it actually wasn't, causing your car to roll backward uncontrolled down a driveway instead of following the preset path. This resulted in a crash into your house. The issue appears to be that the system doesn't require the car to be completely stopped before accepting the command, and doesn't alert you if engagement actually failed.

Your rear view camera display can be completely blocked by other screen elements when you use the infotainment buttons while in reverse. This happens consistently and forces you to shift back to Park and then into Reverse again to see the camera feed properly. This may not comply with federal safety requirements for backup cameras.

Filed: Sep 2025

Your car's digital display screen goes blank and becomes unresponsive multiple times, leaving you without access to controls through the touchscreen while driving. This is a significant safety concern since you lose visibility of important vehicle information and controls. The dealership has been notified and will likely need to diagnose and repair or replace the display unit and its electrical connections.

Filed: Jun 2025

Your 2025 BMW X3 is subject to a recall (Campaign 25V202000) for an electrical system issue, but the required repair part isn't currently available from BMW. You contacted your dealer, and while you haven't experienced any actual failure yet, you're concerned that BMW has taken longer than reasonable to make the part available for the recall repair.

CrashFiled: Jan 2026

Your 2025 BMW X3 experienced multiple serious safety failures: the infotainment system froze repeatedly, the steering felt loose, and the brakes behaved abnormally. Most critically, while parked with the engine running, your vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own without you pressing the gas pedal, and the brakes did not respond as expected, causing a collision with a structure and resulting in injury. Even after service, the vehicle continues to malfunction, suggesting the underlying electrical and brake control issues were not resolved.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your BMW X3's center display screen suddenly goes black while you're driving, blocking access to navigation, vehicle settings, and driver assistance information. This has happened on multiple vehicles, suggesting it may be a widespread issue rather than isolated to one car. The loss of these displays while driving creates a serious safety hazard and distraction. Fixing this will likely require replacing the infotainment display unit or updating its software.

FireFiled: May 2025

Your 2025 BMW X3 caught fire approximately 30 minutes after parking due to a known electrical issue with the starter-generator connection that caused overheating. The owner had contacted BMW multiple times requesting the recall repair before the incident occurred, but the repair was not completed. This is a serious safety hazard that requires immediate attention from BMW to inspect and repair the electrical system components.

Exterior Lighting1 issue
highEXTERIOR LIGHTING
Filed: Jan 2026

Your headlights are casting a shadow across the top half of your windshield, which reduces visibility while driving. The dealership confirmed they can see the problem but haven't been able to fix it and are escalating to BMW. This is a visibility issue that should be resolved before using the vehicle as your primary transportation.

NHTSA #: 11711233
Seats1 issue
highSEATS
Filed: Jan 2026

Your heated seat became dangerously hot within minutes of being turned on, causing burns and melting a hole through the seat fabric. No warning lights or alerts appeared to indicate the problem. The dealership identified a short circuit in the seat's wiring as the cause. The fix will likely involve replacing the damaged seat heating element and wiring harness.

highVISIBILITY/WIPER
Filed: Oct 2025

Your windshield has cracked twice in just 3 months without any major impact—just from small pebbles or minor contact. Other owners with the same FUYAO glass have experienced similar repeated failures, suggesting a possible manufacturing defect in the glass itself. This could leave you with frequent unexpected repairs and visibility issues. The fix will likely involve replacing the windshield with glass that has better impact resistance or durability.

Filed: Sep 2025

A rodent entered your vehicle through the air intake vent within two months of purchase and damaged the cabin air filter. While the rodent didn't chew through any wiring this time, the tech noted that damaged wires could create a serious safety risk by causing electrical shorts or failures while driving. BMW refused to add a protective mesh barrier to prevent future rodent entry or cover the repair costs under warranty, so you had to pay for the cabin air filter replacement yourself.

highSUSPENSION
Filed: Sep 2025

Your brand new X3 makes loud creaking or clunking noises from the front suspension whenever you drive below 20 mph, especially over bumpy roads. With only 5,000 miles on the car, this is happening consistently every time you drive. A mechanic will likely need to inspect the front suspension components for loose parts, worn bushings, or assembly issues.

Filed: Jul 2025

Your windshield wipers may not work properly or may have visibility issues. There could also be a structural concern related to the wiper system or windshield area. The repair may involve replacing wiper blades, checking wiper motor function, or inspecting the windshield and related structural components.

Filed: Aug 2025

Your 2025 BMW X3 is making a clunking noise that happens frequently, especially on rough roads and during turning, accelerating, or braking at low speeds. You can feel vibration through the steering wheel and brake pedal along with the noise, and multiple passengers have heard it too. The BMW dealership couldn't reproduce the problem during inspection, but the issue persists and hasn't improved. A more thorough inspection of the suspension, steering, and brake components may be needed to identify the source of the clunking and vibration.
